Hollow Knight: Silksong10
Sep 11, 2025
Another masterpiece by Team Cherry. Pharloom is an endlessly inspired world full of diverse characters, enemies, and bosses. The game's OST enhances each area's beautiful scenery to heights that somehow surpass the hopes I had been building for this game over the past 6 years. If you are willing to put in the effort, I would say that this game is not just a must-play, but a must-complete. You would be doing yourself a disservice to miss out on some of the fantastic late-game secret areas and bosses. That being said, the game is not flawless. I have criticisms with the repetitiveness of enemy hunting quests, misleading hints that will steer you away from progression (especially in 1 place in the late game), and the lack of some features that were in the original Hollow Knight. I have faith that Team Cherry will work to add small fixes and content through DLC updates like they did with HK, and unlike the bugs of Pharloom, I think it's safe to say that my faith is not misplaced. I will warn people that Silksong does not have much in the way of accessibility settings, so this game probably won't be enjoyable for everyone, which is sad because I think this game deserves all the love it can get. My #1 recommendation would be go in blind and to try to avoid looking up solutions. So much of the fun here comes through discovery. Took me 21 hours to beat and 70 hours to obtain 100% completion on my save.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt9
Jun 1, 2025
TURN QUICK SPELLS ON! Pretty great overall. Getting it out of the way, I encountered numerous glitches and bugs throughout my playthrough I softlocked twice, once where I got stuck in a hole between buildings in Novigrad, and once where I got stuck in shrubbery in the Duchess' gardens in Toussaint. I found floating and incomplete geometry across most of the maps, with weird floating trees in the mountains of Skellige, houses with no textures inside in Toussaint, and see-through geometry on top of Oxenfurt Academy. Also experienced some broken repetitive dialogue, ignoring other minor bugs like a random spazzing foot or a flying ragdoll, I still think this stuff is unacceptable, especially the softlocks. It's a bit sad that 10 years after this game was made they didn't bother to fix this stuff, and I'm sure there is more stuff that I was lucky enough to avoid. This didn't ruin the game for me or anything, just really annoying (I lost like half an hour of progress because of the Novigrad softlock) and it bars this game from a 10/10. Geralt as a character is fascinating and the relationships that he has built and destroyed over the years prior to you playing him makes his relationship with the world as you explore so much more interesting. The majority of the most memorable parts of this game come through Geralt meeting an old friend, enemy, or lover. Connection is the Witcher 3's greatest strength, and it uses these connections to the fullest extent. The combat is only okay, being generally pretty easy at the highest difficulty. While there is a massive variety in enemies, enemy behavior often feels quite similar and you will use the same approach in defeating them most of the time. Honestly your biggest enemy is fall damage, which was responsible for the vast majority of my deaths. The game succeeds in making you feel like a hunter to an extent, with tailored potions, spells, and oils that are strong for specific enemies over others, but it could do so much more and just doesn't. I will say there are 2 fights that are uncharacteristically MUCH more difficult for no reason. One is the a fight against 3 bosses at the same time that I won't spoil, the circumstances of the fight make it wayy harder than the final boss (which is kind of a joke relatively speaking). The other is a fight against elf mages in the post-game DLC which is infinitely harder than the final boss of the DLC, to a frankly obscene extent. Besides those 2 massive and frustrating outliers, you will find the combat to be pressing X and Y a lot, and occasionally pressing RT too if you like to spice things up with Igni and cool it down with Aard. The quest lines are usually quite fun, if a little repetitive at times (a lot of tracking a specific thing to kill it). this makes sense since your a contract hunter, but a little more variety in the ways you track and kill wouldn't hurt. When the game goes out of its way to put forward a unique quest or event it really hits. I remember walking by this abandoned mining camp, where a religious fanatic asked me to help destroy a wraith inside, only for me to learn that the cause of the wraith was a conspiracy of mass torture of diseased folk from a bygone plague deep inside that was covered up by the same group of religious fanatics hundreds of years before. I was hooked the whole time and this game is at its best in these moments, though I do wish it happened a bit more often. Instead, a lot of the world is filled with same 3 "treasure spots" hundreds of times over just to fill empty space (especially across lakes and oceans). I don't really like the game's crafting system because it only really encourages you to build witcher gear and stick with it since it massively outclasses literally all other gear until post-game DLC, making 95% of the system a complete waste of space. There's very little customization in crafting too; if you're going to implement the mechanic I say take a Fallout 4 approach. I also HATE the randomly generated weapon drops. They should have gone with the BG3 approach by carefully predetermining item placements across the map to make progression feel real, and not just based on your current level. Speaking of levels, the vast majority of skills are useless and can be removed, with a select few massively outclassing all others. The Witcher 4's trailer makes combat look much more exciting with its grappling tether and limb cutting mechanics, so I'm very excited to play the next one. Hopefully it can also iron out all of the other missteps that 3 takes, which all things considered are relatively small. Despite my criticisms, I still give the Witcher 3 a light 9/10. It really is quite impressive for a game from 2015 and I can see why it is so loved. Even if a fair amount of my time playing it I was thinking to myself "Hopefully this is fixed in the Witcher 4", that only shows that I loved the game enough to want to play it's sequel (which I am now impatiently waiting for).

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door9
May 29, 2024
20 years later and the game is still incredible. Its charming world, characters, and sharp dialogue holds up, and its new music, visuals, and character animations revitalize this old classic into something I've fallen in love with all over again. The changes made to streamline aspects of the game (the fast travel zone, shortcuts, QoL improvements), resolve a fair amount (though not all) of the 2004 version's somewhat dated level design, mostly the backtracking, while still maintaining everything that made the original so special. The new additions are small, but sweet, and I had a great time with some of the new post game content (there isn't a lot, but it's there). Due to all of these changes (especially the blue pipe room), I was able to 100% complete TTYD for the first time, and I'd highly recommend anyone else who wants to give this game a try to do the same. Took 47 hours to complete.

Animal Well9
May 21, 2024
Animal Well is a short game to "beat". It took me about 7 hours to get to the "end", though there are still many secrets to find. If you are only looking to roll credits you'll have a fun time, but you'll probably finish it in 2-3 sittings so keep that in mind before purchasing. As for me, I'm more than happy with that. Animal Well is the type of game that begs you to achieve 100% completion. Secrets and puzzles are perfectly laid out, always rewarding your curiosity in any direction you go. The strange creatures you cross paths with on your adventure give the world such a unique feel, always getting you to wonder just what led this place to be the way it is. Because of its atmosphere and dense map, Animal Well shines in a way few games do. Also I like the silly abilities. This may be a slight spoiler but: The game does not end after rolling credits, there is a VERY extensive post game

Fallout 47
May 9, 2024
I just bought Fallout 4 after watching the TV show (which unrelated but I thought it was great) and this has been a pretty good time. The game performs shockingly well even at maximum fidelity, which was a surprise to me because I don't have a great computer. The only issue performance-wise is that the game takes 30 seconds to a full minute when loading into the main overworld from an interior space, which is pretty annoying. I've also noticed a fair amount of bugs: occasional invisible walls in decayed buildings I should be able to walk through (like a window or a hole), models clipping into walls (especially when brahmin try to feed using the troph), and I even got soft-locked once when trying to scale down the interior of a building, and straight up had to load a previous save since I couldn't fast travel out. I'm surprised issues like these haven't been patched through updates over the years, since this game is from 2015. Also, rarely enemies go flying after being killed in VATS, but that should be kept because it's hilarious. I've found the combat, visuals, and overall polish in Fallout 4 to be a significant upgrade from New Vegas. The combat is fluid and the enemy design is actually great. The way ghouls just launch at you, or the ways death claws viciously charge, makes fighting them far more engaging. However, the story of Fallout 4 does feel less compelling and way more simplistic. Fallout 4 has a much more uplifting mood than New Vegas. In Vegas you are constantly making hard choices that will inevitably hurt people who don't deserve to be hurt, but in this game you get to help everyone that deserves to be helped and get to singlehandedly rebuild the wasteland. I hope Fallout 5 tests the player's morality like New Vegas did, or at least makes players constantly question if the path they are on is best. Disappointingly, the morality of certain groups in this game are also simplified from New Vegas, like super mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel. I understand the context here is that the Commonwealth represents a different Sect of these groups with different underlying ideals, but it still doesn't sit right with me.I also don't like that you seemingly can't get the general population of a city to like you more or less. Everyone in Diamond City still tells me to get lost, after I've done just about every single side quest in the area I can to help residents. Bring back the reputation system in Fallout 5. While you're at it, make the choices of factions to align with in the next game more morally grey. There is literally nothing about the MinuteMen or Railroad that deserves criticism, except maybe their unrealistically ideal goals at times. The NCR of New Vegas was morally "good", but was still riddled with corruption and was ruthless to those that opposed it (even peacefully). I hope any future game in this series forces me to actually think a bit before determining who to side with. A lot of the quests in this game are well designed and have been fun, but there are a fair amount of boring fetch quests or "kill this enemy" quests that have no stakes. I have to emphasize how terrible it is that there are a number of infinitely repeatable procedurally generated quests in this game. They are garbage and a waste of time. Only put side quests into a game if they actually matter, I don't care if that means decreasing the total amount. This review has been pretty negative but I have to say I really do like just exploring the world of Fallout 4. Uncovering small mysteries, reading bits of clever dialogue from terminals of a bygone era, discovering a cool set of power armor in the wasteland I can horde at my home base, and many more small details all make this game worth trying out. Speaking of home base, while the settlement mechanics are simplistic, I do like scrounging the wasteland for materials to decorate my own pad. I also like modding armors and guns to craft my perfect arsenal. It allows you to really specialize in a way you can't in New Vegas. Another small thing I love is the radio. The music choices are fantastic (I think I like them even more than Fallout New Vegas' radio), but I also really like how the radio is used as an organic way to begin quests. In fallout 5 I hope they expand even further on this idea, maybe unlocking new radio stations to listen in on as you continue through the wasteland. I'm having a good time with this game overall and would definitely recommend it, though I still believe New Vegas is better due to its story and writing.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale9
Jan 8, 2024
This game is pretty great and I'd highly recommend it! The concept of of painting everywhere you go is quite clever and is solidly executed. A limited color palette that keeps the game from getting too overwhelming with choices, and gives each area its own distinct feel. The game has plenty of colorful characters, a thoughtful story, and a great soundtrack. It does have flaws that are worth mentioning though. I experienced several small glitches throughout the game, especially with a certain ability obtained. The game crashed on me 5 times, mostly toward the latter half of the game. Sometimes you can't easily paint objects on the edges of the screen, and there were a few times where objects simply wouldn't stay the color I painted them in. I remember a few conversations between important characters that felt a bit stilted, (this could be intentional due to themes of the game, but it still can be a bit off-putting). It sometimes feels like the developers are speaking directly to you as opposed to characters conversing with one another, which is fine for minor characters, but when story-important characters speak in this fashion it detracts a bit from the story itself. I love how this game navigates ideas of self-worth, the pressures of upholding a legacy, and responsibility towards oneself and for others. How it only ever asks the player to enjoy their time with the game and demands nothing more than that, its really relaxing. I ended up painting the whole map and completing all the side-quests, but the game never pressures you to do so and instead encourages you to only do as much as you feel you should. This encouragement to play how you want is also seen through its its numerous accommodations. There really is so much to praise, but I would rather not spoil anything, so take this review as a hearty recommendation to play this game all the way through!About 25-30 hours to 100% complete on standard mode for those curious

Pikmin 49
Jul 27, 2023
This game is actually fantastic. I think the decision to go back to 2 captains was a good one, because it means the game is less about micromanaging and more about exploring. I also like how the captains are asymmetrical (your player can fit through grates/small barriers and can use the charge command, while oatchi can jump and charge into things). The game has less puzzles than pikmin 3, but it really makes up for it in pretty much every other aspect. I like how dandori battles are interspersed throughout the game. It adds a lot of variety and they are generally quite well made (though I don't like how the screen is cut in half it feels weird). I also have an issue with how much information about the pikmin world is still left unanswered after beating the game. We see many more human constructions, but are still left in the dark as to why PNF-404 is in its current state, (Why are human creations still in pristine condition if the ecosystem has seemingly evolved so drastically? What is causing so many tiny people to crash-land on the planet? Why is Louie so weird?). Hopefully Pikmin 5 answers these questions when it finally comes out in 2040, instead of leaving it all to speculation. Would highly recommend the game though, its definitely worth the money. Took 35 hours to complete the base game probably 40-45 hours for 100% completion including side modes

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild10
May 25, 2023
Let me be clear, this game is flawed. From its overall lacking story, to the absence of major dungeons, to its lack of enemy variety, to its occasional poor performance issues, it would be impossible to say that Breath of the Wild is a perfect game. I don't care, this is my favorite game ever created. The world itself is alive with so much to see and do, I've never experienced a game where the world itself begs the player to explore and simply discovering new places is so intrinsically rewarding. When I think of beauty in videogames I think of Breath of the Wild. When I think of the essence of discovery in videogames I think of Breath of the Wild. When I think of what it means to experience child-like wonder I think of Breath of the Wild. This is the single player game I have the most time in, with over 250 hours and multiple game completions, yet I still haven't experienced everything this game has to offer, and I probably never will. I can only hope that BOTW 2 comes within a mile of this masterpiece. EDIT: BOTW is a worse game than TOTK, so I would recommend TOTK over this if you are choosing between the two. Still very much a worthwhile game to play though.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom10
May 19, 2023
This game is better than botw in pretty much every way. Main issue is lag which can be really bad, but I've found that switching the settings to 720p in docked helps quite a lot. It's a real shame this game can't be played at 60 fps despite the fact that easily available hardware has existed for the past several years capable of achieving just that. As for the game itself it is overwhelmingly huge, I've spent dozens of hours just exploring this map and I'm still finding new stuff at every turn (and I've put about 300 hours in botw). In love with the ultrahand, never has stacking a dozen springs on top of one another to launch yourself into the stratosphere been more fun (if it's ever been done at all in a videogame before this). The dungeons in this game are a major improvement, I've only done 3, but I've found the build up to them to be a lot of fun and the puzzles in them to be quite creative. NPCs in this game are a lot more interesting than in botw and the sidequests are actually worth doing, so much so that I think I'm going to complete them all. The story has some of the issues of botw, namely being the return of memories, but they do tell a more interesting story and the payoff once they're all collected is actually pretty good because you don't already know how its going to end, unlike in botw where the memories only serve as window dressing and don't tell you anything you don't already know past your first visit to Kakariko Village. Also the way in which memories are discovered is so much more interesting, being a full on side-mission, instead of just "go to picture here and press A". This game is just so much fun to play and I can't recommend it enough. It definitely deserves the praise it's getting, though I can understand frustration with its below par performance on a console that was already behind in technology 6 years ago.

Realm of the Mad God6
Dec 1, 2022
The game is a lot of fun and I'd recommend trying it out with a friend or two. The game can be played for free, but you will probably find the lack of character slots and storage frustrating. $20 is probably enough to enjoy the game to the fullest (I should mention I've paid $40), but obviously only buy stuff if you feel paying $X on a free game is justified. The game struggles with performence, especially if your computer is lacking. Hackers are unfortunately common (maybe as much as 10% of the playerbase) and while they won't have a direct effect on your experience it is annoying that DECA does so little about them. The game is also not very friendly to new players and practically demands you to learn about it through online resources like Realmeye and guide videos. The game deserves a major rework to mechanics revolving around the new player experience, which the developers have said they are working on, but it will probably be a while before these issues are really solved. Still fun though, if not a bit niche. Play if you like bullet-hells and have friends. Oh yeah it's also one of those communities where the players you meet in game have a 50% chance of being a racist POS, so keep that in mind. The reddit is nice

Paper Mario: The Origami King7
Oct 23, 2022
I'm going to start this off with the most positive thing I can say about this game. This game has the best OST of any Mario game, better than Odyssey, Better than 3D World, better than Galaxy. Don't believe me? ****/watch?v=zCXrspb-qLg Here is a concert of just a FEW of the best songs in this game, it is so fantastic I cannot recommend listening to it enough. The game itself is fun with lots to enjoy. It has very witty dialogue, probably the best in the series, and some truly memorable characters despite its limitations. The world is detailed and beautiful, probably one of the best looking games on the switch. The story itself is fine, with a few highlights coming from Bobby and in Bowser Castle, though I feel it would be a lot better if it took itself a tad more seriously. The gameplay itself is also fine, with fun overworld puzzles and a decent amount of exploration, but so often it feels like the developers are fighting against invisible restrictions placed onto the game for no real reason. It feels like so many areas could have been expanded and brought new life. Instead Mario assets we've seen a million times over make up most of the cast and I just can't get past that. The Ring Combat system is okay, but it does get old over time, especially on a second playthrough. I feel like this game is designed to only be played once and then to be left alone, on a second playthrough so much of the game simply doesn't have the impact it did the first time around, even if you wait over a year after its release. It's definitely a step in the right direction for the series and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a goofy RPG that isn't a major challenge. The game is about 20-25 hours to beat

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition8
Oct 23, 2022
Really a fantastic JRPG. Memorable characters, beautiful environments, fantastic music, and one of the best stories of any videogame I've played. The combat system is complex, but still understandable and the foresight mechanic is just brilliant. It doubles the combat system as a puzzle system, figuring out the best ways to redirect and prevent deadly attacks and setting up for high tension close calls. The game does have flaws though, half the quests are basic "kill x monsters" or "fetch x items" quests, which are boring and pad out the game unnecessarily. The quest tracking system is bad and you can easily get lost. The autorun system is not great and it's really frustrating how limited you are in increasing your walking speed. Despite these flaws, I'd still say this is a top quality game on the switch and if you like longer RPGs there is no reason not to buy. I will say though, that the future connected portion of the game is disappointingly shallow and needed much more work than it got. There are some fun moments there, but it simply does not deliver on the expectations a premise like it provides. 80-100 hour game

There is so much to love here which makes the pitfalls of this game so utterly painful to me. The story and gameplay mechanics are strong, but cringey dialogue and moments make me question why I'm playing. I took several month long breaks from the game throughout my playthrough because of this, which may have further contributed to my negative feelings about the experience as a whole. I'm still glad I got to the end though, it's conclusion impactful and beautiful in a way, retroactively improving the first Chronicles game, which I love. Has its issues but if you can sit down for a 60 hour game and get past the bad moments, there is something truly enjoyable here. Also this game has the worst tutorial of all time, I'd recommend Chuggaaconroy's "Everything I wish I knew about Xenoblade Chronicles 2" guide video as it clears up a ton of stuff the tutorial utterly fails to properly explain.

I don't want to get into why I love this game as much as I do, I feel it would just take too long. It's 150 hours for the main story + sidequests and fixes much of the issues the Xenoblade series has faced. Play it please I want Xenoblade to become a staple franchise for Nintendo so I get more games. Will say though the music is shockingly weak for this series. A pretty great turn based RPG with some great characters and a fun story that prods at the imagination. The combat system is good, providing a neat challenge both in strategy and actual gameplay. It is very derivative of the old Paper Mario games, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I do feel more could be done to distinguish its combat from those titles. The humor and worldbuilding are great and feel unique to this world, and the plot twists that amp up toward the latter half of the game make for an experience I won't soon forget. There are some graphical issues and some issues with pacing, but it's a surprisingly great first game for Moonsprout and I'm excited for their next one. 40 hours to complete and Vi is the best

Cuphead6
Jul 16, 2022
Cuphead has a lot going for it. It has a wonderful handcrafted art style that oozes with personality and creativity. Funny visual gags are present throughout inkwell isle and are especially noticeable in the animations of bosses and enemies. The music is fantastic and is worth listening to on its own. The boss fights are well made and feel distinct, with responsive controls (though aiming while standing still is annoying if you play on keyboard). With so many positives it seems strange to give Cuphead such a low score, but the game does have one major issue. The game feels purposeless. Sure bosses are challenging and unique, but there is no reason to beat them other than to say you did it, that you beat the game. If this game had not been as popular as it was, there is no way I would have chosen to beat it. Games with challenging bossfights like Hollowknight and Darksouls provide a reason to play, they provide deep and immersive worlds that are rewarding to explore in their own right. Cuphead didn't need that exact idea implemented, but it did need something to shake things up, to give the player that extra reason to keep going forward. Multiple times I'd play for half an hour, kill 1-2 bosses, and just leave because I was already tired of playing. A game that drains the player like this fails as a whole, and if it didn't have such wonderful eye-candy and ear-candy I would definitely put it lower. 10-15 hours to beat if you're a mid player like me, maybe buy it on sale if you like to challenge yourself.

In some ways this game feels incomplete. It has a lack of polish, (even if it does look pretty), where animations don't fit together fluidly and npcs will get stuck, or in rare cases even phase through the ground. There is an aspect of padding, animations take an unnecessary amount of time and can't be sped up. You'll oftentimes find yourself uncomfortably waiting for the next event to occur. There is a distinct lack of automation for repetitive mundane tasks on the boat, so you manually supply yourself with resources using the exact same methods you used 30 hours ago with little variation. Finally, there is a distinct lack of text-skipping options, so you'll find yourself talking to random npcs who rattle on and on quite often. All these negative aspects make it sound like I dislike this game, but despite its flaws I would still definitely recommend it. Amassing a little town of animal spirits on your boat is really a delightful experience, and listening to their stories and how they tie into a broader narrative of the nature of moving on, both in a literal and metaphorical sense, is quite fascinating. The characters are memorable and the story is well put together, being the main reason for my recommendation. The story itself is certainly predictable, but it's worth seeing to the end just for its execution. The game is still definitely too long though, should have been 30 hours tops. (The game took me 52 hours get 100%)

I played this game as a kid back in 2009. At the time I was only 8 years old and couldn't tell you the difference between a good and a bad game. Random terrible mobile games were just as fun to me as actually good games, like Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda. Even with all this I could still tell this game was god awful. I used to be a big fan of the online game Jumpstart back then, would play it with my friends all the time. When I heard about there being a game for the Wii like it I was ecstatic and begged my mom to get it. Imagine my shock when I first start playing it and immediately die of boredom. There is nothing fun about this game, the only redeeming quality is that seeing it reminded me of fun experiences in my childhood, like raising pet aliens, flying on dragons, crafting potions, or shooting myself out of a cannon for cash in the online game. Don't buy this unless you are looking to torture yourself, if you buy this for your child they will hate you forever. Edit: this inspired me to check out jumpstart online. All the servers are shut down. I'm sad.

This game deserved the Terraria treatment. If it had gotten several more significant updates and touch ups this game truly would be something special among 2D sandbox games. As it stands it's still quite fun, with a decent enough story and some fun missions. There are features to the game that are underdeveloped, but as it stands I would still definitely recommend it. The modding scene is surprisingly strong, but as the game stands by itself, it's solid but not much more. Also the race designs are just great, with surprisingly deep culture that I wish would be heavily explored in a future game. Cowboy starchildren, samurai fish, primal plant people, and more are all just such cool ideas and I love it.

Over a decade later and this game hasn't aged a bit. Brilliant design and expands the concept of the original to incredible new heights, both in terms of gameplay and in terms of the story. The game is a bit too linear in my opinion, but I understand that that's kind of the point, I just wish the player had a bit more of an influence in the direction of the story. Jun 22, 2022
Like so many, I enjoyed my time with the original Stanley Parable, which underscores how truly disappointed I am with its sequel. Where the first game teemed with originality, The Stanley Parable 2 is dull, uninspired, and often insulting to its fan base. Rather than expand on what made the first game enjoyable, the sequel veers off into territory nobody asked for. An infinitely deep hole? Who cares? Where are the new endings? What about enjoyable bits from The Stanley Parable 1, like the Adventure Line? Instead we get an uninspired sidequest collecting figurines. Even this diversion feels incomplete: collecting all the figurines gives you nothing! I must say though, I found the bucket to be quite comforting, a welcome reprieve from the rest of this drab experience. 9/10 and about 10 hours to beat.

Quite fun for what it is, classes are distinct and varied, if not a bit simplistic and unbalanced. Graphics are decent enough and controls work fine. There are better FPS games out there, but you could do much worse.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land9
Jun 22, 2022
This is a fantastic 3D platformer. Though it is a bit short, the platforming is consistently great throughout, never a dull moment. I love how ideas are both introduced and developed, it is reminiscent of Galaxy in its design. The mouthful mode transformations are few in number but provide a much needed spice of variety to the gameplay as well. Evolving copy abilities to match tougher and tougher areas works great, and the fully upgraded sword is a blast to use. This is a game that practically begs the player to play it to 100% completion, if you don't you are truly missing out. The post game content surpasses much of the main game content in quality and I'm sure I'll find myself coming back to this game sometime in the future. Unfortunately though, multiplayer is quite laggy and single player still has issues with the framerate of distant objects. Still, I hope this isn't the last we see of 3D Kirby because I'm hooked. 15 Hours to complete

Kirby's Epic Yarn8

Great 2D platformer. The ultimate example of choose your own difficulty. You can't die in this game, Angie will save you no matter what, meaning you can stroll through any level of the game without issue. At the same time Angie is the most evil being to have ever given form. If you want to keep you gems, to attain all the bonus levels and items you will be put through a gauntlet that tests your nerves. Is it the hardest thing out there? No, but it sure is challenging and quite a lot of fun. Achieving 100% in this game is both rewarding and not too large of a task compared to most other games, if you play this I'd say try for it. The hotel decorating feature is more fun than it has any right to be. I have the best Kirby room and none of y'alls can match it. My only gripes with the game is the lack of additional content when compared to other Kirby games. There's no arena and no extra mode, which is disappointing. Would recommend if you like platformers are want something to do with a friend. 15-20 hour game to complete.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove9
Jun 22, 2022
All 4 games are lots of fun definitely worth the price. Plague Knight is probably the weakest of the 4 due to its unintuitive platforming, but I like its story the most and speed running is crazy. Shovel Knight is 3rd imo for just being an overall solid game in all aspects. Specter knight is 2nd and has the most fun platforming, but the story is weak and its lack of an overworld feels off. King knight is best for its great platforming, a great story, great level structure, and of course the very fun card minigame. The game is about 40 hours, would definitely recommend!

This game is quite poorly optimized. Despite its age my computer (which is decently powerful and can run Ori will of the wisps fine) heavily lags even at the lowest settings. The game itself is decently fun, though it is also unintuitive and I feel like I need a guide for anything I want to do. Dinosaurs are cool though and a game that lets you ride them is almost always going to have value in my book. Oh yeah and the character creator is a total joke, it was a waste to invest resources in that.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door9
Jun 22, 2022
Probably my 5th favorite game. This is really the height of turn-based RPGs for me. From its quirky world, to its memorable characters, to its near-perfected combat, to its surprisingly strong story beats, this game truly has it all. There is just so much this game does right! I love the customizability of the badge system and the customizability in choosing what you level up. I love the wacky bosses and somewhat disturbing events that make up this game's quest. The running gags are all very entertaining, like how all of the evil spirits curse Mario with something that is super helpful, or how all the women in Mario's party need to kiss him at some point for no reason, or how Luigi's partners all despise and want to murder him. There is so much clever dialogue in this game, so many wild ideas expressed, and yet it all still feels like a true Mario game at the end of the day. The only issue I find with the game is the unnecessary amount of backtracking. It's tolerable in parts, but there are sections of this game that I dread whenever I come back to it for another playthrough. Overall though, I would highly recommend it and I really hope it gets remastered on the switch someday. As an added note I hope that a remastered version has an option for a more direct translation of the Japanese edition as the story about Vivian being trans is censored in the American version and that's really too bad. The game is about 30 hours.

Pokemon White Version9
Jun 22, 2022
Realistically this game probably isn't a 9 out of 10. It still falls into many of the pitfalls that the other pokemon games do. There's a lack of difficulty, simplified gameplay, and a lack of significant change when compared to the other games. However, I still love it. Beaten this game and Pokemon Black maybe 5 time combined and every time I enjoy it just as much. A surprising step forward for pokemon when it comes to storytelling, as this time it actually poses questions and ideas that encourage the player to think about the actions they are taking, even if it's still comparatively basic to other RPG stories. The sprite work and world design is at its best here, love the culture of Unova and its varied settings. I like how the gym leaders actually play a role in the world and in the story, with you often times working alongside them, instead of just doing a fetch quest for them or finding them in a random spot. Has some of my favorite music in the series, namely Ns theme, Driftveil, Nimbasa, and the Elite 4. Has it's flaws but I just like it too much not to rate it highly.

Metroid Dread8
Jun 22, 2022
This was my 2nd Metroidvania and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Tight yet fluid controls. Excellent bossfights that will truly test your skills. Solid art direction, and some really interesting, dense world design that will allow you to use the abilities you attain to the fullest. You truly feel like an explorer when moving through the world of ZDR. Lush environments and strange creatures are abundant, making traveling through the mostly abandoned planet a surprisingly immersive experience for a 2D game. The story is lacking, but considering I'm missing most of the story from the other games I went in expecting that. The EMMI sections are the highlight, providing intense subsections to the game where you oftentimes feel completely powerless, no matter how much you prepare yourself. If anything I was a bit disappointed that the EMMIs weren't further developed, as some are pretty similar to one another. There's an issue of getting stuck in the game though. Had to get outside help when I got trapped between the 1st and 2nd area. The solution was destroying several hidden tiles, but there was another set of tiles nearby that seemed like the obvious solution that the game was directing me toward so I never noticed the hidden ones. This is pretty dumb design IMO, but it was really the only instance of this happening. Overall, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Metroidvanias, or for anyone looking for a challenge. I hope this isn't the last 2D Metroid game we will see on the switch. The game is about 10 hours long, so keep that in mind when purchasing

I haven't really played this game in quite some time. It really got me through parts of 2020, being a very relaxing town-building/decorating game. Visiting other people's islands is a nice feature and I have a lot of great memories because of it, but it would be foolish to say the online is good. The game itself struggles occasionally with performance, especially from heavily decorated islands/online islands, and it takes forever to visit other islands. The lack of updates has been disappointing for someone who really liked filling out the museum with fish, art, insects, and fossils. Design features for the museum and additional artifacts to collect would definitely bring me back, but it seems they have no interest. If you enjoy a slow-paced relaxing experience with plenty of design options this game is definitely for you though. I had a lot of fun with this and the free DLC through switch online is actually pretty great if you like decorating. Negative points for the single island "feature" though. It's still a baffling decision, like why not allow accounts the option to choose between joining an old island and making a new one?

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures3
Jun 22, 2022
I've had good fun with friends while playing this game (played with 3 since our 4th never could make it). The fun comes from the friendly competition of gem collecting/stealing and the (mostly) solid level design throughout. However as this game progresses it becomes more and more tiresome to play. Levels stretch longer and longer, some being easily over an hour long, and if you ever end up quitting, or your GBA batteries run out, it's over and you'll have to start from the beginning of the level when you next play it. Many levels play out similarly and I often found myself questioning why we weren't playing a more fun co-op game, since there are so many others out there. I remember a session where we spent the whole time playing 1 level in world 6, my GBA ran out of batteries so we lost it all, making no progress for the day. I only really stayed because of my friends. They seemed to have a better overall time with it than me, so maybe there's value that I'm just not seeing? Don't go through the hassle of setting it all up, even if you're lucky and have the GBAs + GC like us.

Terraria9
Jun 21, 2022
Definitely in my top 10 favorite games. The ultimate 2D sandbox. There just isn't a reason not to try this. From its well designed progression, to its creative and fun weapons, to its brilliant music and boss design, to its refined building and crafting systems, this game succeeds in every area a 2D sandbox should. The unbelievable amount of free updates this game has gotten (and is still getting!) is evidence enough to show just how much of a labor of love and passion Terraria is, and it's in depth modding scene that is integrated into the game itself only adds to this. This game is just barely not a 10/10 imo, due to its lack of an integrated guide. You will have to use a wiki to get to the end of the game, there is no way around it, but due to the way it's designed I don't have a big issue with that.

Fallout: New Vegas9

This game is really great and has very few flaws. The combat is fun for the most part, with an engaging story you truly feel a part of. The setting is really engrossing, and makes you feel like a true postapocalyptic cowboy tearing through the Mojave. The music is surprisingly good and is quite memorable, especially the radio songs. It does have an issue with bugs and navigating quests can be frustrating, but overall I would still highly recommend. Really upset you can't kill Yes Man though I despise him with every fiber of my being.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past / Four Swords7
Jun 21, 2022
This game is good, but it is very dated. The game design is solid, with clever puzzles, solid (if not simple) combat, and a pretty pixel-art world to discover. Secrets are abundant and make you feel like a genius every time you prod at something suspicious or engage in a bit of outside-of-the box thinking. However, there are progression points that are incredibly unintuitive, and I feel demand outside help or previous knowledge of the game. The game has a hint system using fortune tellers, but it is terrible and almost never provides you the information actually necessary to progress. This happened to me on 4 occasions, and I wasted hours of my time trying to figure them out on my own, only to defeatedly look it up and find a solution that I never would have found. An example of this is the part of the game where you buy the flippers. The hint in game says something along the lines of "go to lake area and find a Zora". I do this and scour the entire area multiple times, only finding dead ends and look it up online. Turns out in one of the dead ends you have to stand in front of a waterfall in a specific place for the Zora to appear. Design like this is fine for 2002, today its just annoying. The music in this game is decent, but is sorely lacking for a Zelda game. If the hint system actually worked my score would probably be at an 8-9, but a game that requires you to look things up to beat it is a flawed game.

Just incredible. Off the bat I'll say I haven't played many metroidvania games, namely Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Metroid Dread, and Super Metroid, but of these I would say HK is the king. Its brilliant combat system, gorgeous art and music, and engrossing world will **** you in like no other game can. I've never experienced a game where I was so utterly captivated by the worldbuilding and story, to the point that I wanted to continue exploring every nook and cranny just for the smallest piece of lore to better explain the complex world it develops. Every question Hallownest poses has an answer if your willing to dig, and no other game out there will provide such a high quality experience for such a cheap price. The game is quite difficult and can be quite punishing, so I understand why this may not be for everyone, but to me this is firmly placed as my 2nd favorite game of all time. If Team Cherry can make a game this good on their first try I can't wait for what's in store for SilkSong. 70 hours in the game

Stardew Valley9
Jun 20, 2022
Imagine Animal Crossing if the player had an active role in progression. The game is super relaxing and engaging, providing plenty of options to the player at any given moment. Many ways to play and has a brilliantly made co op that makes it almost infinitely replayable. As a bonus it probably has the best fishing minigame of any videogame. Despite all this praise, the game isn't perfect, there are occasional graphical issues in some of the areas of the game that look kind of ugly and there are multiple npcs that are not at all fleshed out. The heart system is arbitrary for characters like Sandy and the Dwarf and the child system is both boring and pointless. It's much more fun to sacrifice babies than raise them tbh. This is my 4th favorite game out there and I'd highly recommend it. 300 hours in and I'm sure that number will continue to rise

Unlike portal 2, this game simply does not hold up. It has value for its incredible concept and being the groundwork for the sequel, but if you had a choice between the two, there simply is no contest. I'd be less harsh on the game if it wasn't 2 hours long.

Tight controls, lovable characters, amazing level design: this game has it all. Also some of the best music in all of videogames. It does have flaws, but as it stands it's the best 2d platformer I've ever played and it isn't really close, so I feel like I have to give it a 10. Comparing it to other 2D platformer classics, like Super Mario World, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Rayman Origins, Sonic 1-3, and so many more, this game surpasses them all, and has given me an experience like no other. After playing the game for 115 hours, I've beaten it 5 times and have no doubt I'll do it again some time in the future. Play this game.

Liked Bloons TD 5 much better, I feel like this is an overall downgrade despite the expansion in features. I will say I don't have much time in this game, only 8 hours, but I just couldn't get myself to play it further. It feels mostly tedious and I really don't like the hero gimmick. I would say it's just more of the same, which makes sense considering all the bloons td games are pretty similar, but the formula works best in the previous one and that one is free.

An improved version of Spelunky for the most part. Really though it acts as a shakeup to the original with a more pleasant art style and a litany of new mechanics. Mods to the game add to the game, but it feels unfair to include that as a part of my rating.

This game is great. I'm not good at it but I have a lot of fun playing. It's high-skill and is very replay-able due to its structure as a procedurally generated platformer rogue-like. This game hasn't aged the best, the art is a bit grimy and the lack of narrative to the game has always been a bit disappointing to me, but its still a lot of fun to die over and over in never before seen ways, or to a spike pit. I've probably played the game for about 25 hours and have yet to get the true ending.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale9
Jun 20, 2022
There really is so much to praise, but I would rather not spoil anything, so take this review as a hearty recommendation to play this game all the way through! About 25-30 hours to 100% complete on standard mode for those curious

Ooh this game was a lot of fun. Very repalyable, if not a bit simple. Very fun to get new combinations of items and see how overpowered you can get.
