Specialises in trick shots before mastering the fundamentals. Deeply flawed, but hard to ignore. [Issue#267, p.58]
Like so many survival/crafting games, from Minecraft to Subnautica, ARK presupposes a player with a lot of time to dedicate to the experience, a high tolerance for repetition, and a fondness for chaos and the unexpected. With its sci-fi inflected single player campaign, ARK at least offers a solo player the chance to get the gist of the game without the threat of anti-social humans ruining whatever progress has been made. For the past two years, ARK has been helping to shape the genre and now that it's finished, it feels like the genre is due for the next stage of evolution.

Ark is near masterful in its ability to keep you caught up in a sense of discovery. There always seems to be more. [Issue#192, p.74]

I hate this game and somehow, that’s exactly why it’s so good. The bugs should be a dealbreaker, but instead they’re hilarious, especially when you’re playing with friends; they create moments you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Beneath the chaos, there’s a game that’s genuinely addictive, always finding a way to pull you back in. You can complain about it all you want, but at the end of the day, it’s almost impossible to walk away from.

Concept (Maps, Taming, Stats, DINOS OFC): 10, Enjoyment factor: 8, Making you addicted to playing factor: 10, Triggering intense aggression due to awful bugs or playing mechanics or countless reasons factor: 10 (coming from someone who's never had game-triggered aggression ever, except for this game). Last played it in 2022. Back then I would've given it a 9, it was honestly a great era. But apparently this game against all odds has gotten even more **** due to the developers or something of that sort.

It'll delight you, it'll make you despair, but ultimately Ark will leave you with a real sense of satisfaction. [Nov 2017, p.76]

ARK: Survival Evolved should be the first triple A survival game, but It is not completely true.

ARK is a good survival game with a great setting. It's one of those titles where you can spend hours trying to survive, while building a house and taming a dinosaur, and even though it still feels a little bit like in early access, if you like the concept you'll probably enjoy it.

ARK is an ambitious project that, at the moment, lacks in optimisation: bugs, glitches and crashes happen too often and affect the gamer experience. The potential is enormous, but the devs should concentrate their work to solve all the issues and to fix what is already done, instead to produce new contents. Beware: the PvP servers are full of awful people, that's why you should buy the game if you are oriented to a PvE experience only.

Ark: Survival Evolved is a good game that gets bogged down by an over-abundance of ancillary features, frustrating bugs, and a horrendous grind. It can be intimidating for new players and playing with friends online is more important than ever. But if you can get past the rough edges and dig into the prehistoric survival fun that makes Ark so special, there is an entirely unique game here that’s unlike anything else you’ll play.

Ark: Survival Evolved is a game full of rough edges. It's also a game full of some amazing moments over my total playtime. It's the kind of experience that has a lot of boredom and tedium, and a great deal of looking the other way in the face of bugs, but also some clear water cooler moments. There's something very cool buried in here, though I can't tell if that's because of some developer decisions or in spite of them.

I have 775 hours in and I never get bored. It's one of the best games out there, honestly. Even though it has bugs and imperfections, it's one of the best-selling games in history, and instead of blaming the game, we should fight to make Snail Games learn how to treat its community and optimize its games.

The game is way more fun than I thouht, but the early game is incredibly challenging. You'll die a ton, and some of it can be utterly frustrating.Plus, high-level dinos are nightmare to tame.

This game was my childhood. I got it around 2017 when I was just a kid, now I'm 18, I have almost 3000 hours on Xbox and PC combined. For the majority of these past 8 years it's stayed my favorite game, but in the past year or so, I've watched the company that owns it completely take for granted this amazing game. It really pains me to give this review, but I hope that these player reviews are the call to action Snail games and Wildcard needs to fix the problems they've created.
