Portal, tucked neatly alongside four other games, outshines them all and ensures itself a place in posterity.

One of the best single-player experiences of the year.

It may be the least hyped part of the Orange Box but Portal is a strong addition to the lineup and really stands out on its own.

The idea stolen shamelessly from Prey, masterful implementation and... you won’t know when these three hours have passed. Zipping through portals and placing them on the fly (literally) makes for loads of fun, and the authors spice up the play with quite a story that’s not immediately visible and all the more enjoyable when discovered. Skilled players will portal their way through the nineteen levels in just a few hours, but this little puzzle game / tech demo provides plenty of entertainment and makes a great addition to The Orange Box.

It may be short, but it's a wonderful learning experience, forcing you to rethink rather base concepts of the first-person genre. [Dec 2007, p.68]

By anyone's reckoning Portal isn't a long game, weighing in at around the three to four hour mark. Those of you who do see this game from start to end though are in for a very special experience.

Portal is a brilliantly inventive puzzle game that introduced the world to the Portal Gun and mind-bending spatial challenges. Its minimalist design, clever level progression, and darkly humorous narrative make every test chamber rewarding. Short but unforgettable, it set a new standard for puzzle-platformers and storytelling in games, earning a well-deserved 9.7/10.

7 - Great. Finally got around to this wonderful little game and what I found is exactly what’ I’d heard for so many years: an immaculate, humorous, dense puzzle game who’s portal mechanic is endlessly rich with possibilities and applications. I did all levels and bonus levels in an entire sitting because once I got going I couldn’t stop. It’s a bite size title however and I was left wanting things to go further. I guess that’s why I’ll be anticipating my time with Portal 2 in the near future.

El primer Portal es casi más un experimento técnico que un juego completo. Es extremadamente corto (se puede pasar en un par de horas) y se siente como un prólogo largo. Los gráficos son los típicos del motor Source: limpios, funcionales, pero nada del otro mundo. La mecánica de los portales es curiosa, pero al ser un juego tan breve, cuando empiezas a pillarle el truco, ya se ha terminado. Es un juego sólido, pero entiendo que si no te obsesiona su concepto, te parezca simplemente un juego de puzles correcto y ya está. Para mí, es un 7,4

Гра виглядає наче просто демонстрація фішки порталів. Думаю, насправді так і є. Сюжет дуже простий, плоский і нецікавий. Ну, очевидно його добавили для "галочки". Геймплей, хоч і передбачає використання лише порталів, всеодно не виправдовує себе цим ( особисто для мене). Ну, головоломки цікаві, але я вважаю портал може виконувати значно більше цікавих геймплейних функцій. Дизайн рівнів теж не дуже. Я розумію що така задумка, ніби події відбуваються в лабораторії-полігоні, але це не робить його кращим. Короче як гра на 2-3 години згодиться, але для мене вона стала абсолютно прохідною

The game is too easy. I fine with it early to mid game but the late game should be little harder. Besides the atmosphere (which was not enough), nothing really happens in the game.
