This horror game, inside of a horror game... inside of a horror game, is such a fun meta-play of the survival horror genre. While its been done before, this developer takes it to another level adding the necessary story and plot explanation needed to hold immersion, and overall game play of the horror gaming trope, were perfected better than ever before. A couple too many running segments and confusing monster interactions led to some frustrations, but the experience ended with me wanting the developer to make a sequel, IMMEDIATELY.

Jack Holmes : Master of Puppets8
May 7, 2024
A wondrous result from combing RE7 gameplay, silent hill-like creature design, and amusement park attractions, Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets is a great, slightly janky indie horror game that any fan of survival horror would appreciate. The bugs were there, but the eerie environments and ever changing landscape kept my attention wrapped. Only two bugs were game breaking, both involving clipping through the map and having no way to exit via menu, so I had to restart the game. But this is one game that was fun to play and had some decent scares.

Withering Rooms9
Apr 7, 2024
When you blend together the items and combat inspired by From Software games, the creature design of Silent Hill and the eerie level design of Clock Tower, you get, Withering Rooms. This is one of those games that just hit me perfectly at the right time, making me feel like I've been wanting this game for years, while never knowing it. I LOVE the creature design, macbre victorian lore, and cast of crazy, unpredictable characters that can only be compared to the NPC's you'd find in Elden Ring. I was surprised by how fun I found the rouge-like elements to be, as I'm not usually one for rouge-like games, but the horror and atmosphere more than made up for it. I very much hope for a sequel of some kind. Darker, scarier, creepier- I want more of all of it!

Since playing an indie-horror game on Steam called, "Beware", I've been waiting for a full game under the same mechanics to come out... with that said, I went into this KNOWING I'd have to learn some weird controls using a unique style of gameplay. It's difficult to make simple controls for driving under this context and if you're not ready to learn a new way to play a game, you might find this frustrating. You can't just jump in and go, not unless you're cool with failing immediately. Take your time to learn the controls in the first few hours so your entire experience isn't ruined or turned off completely by not understanding what to do. Things can happen QUICKLY and if you don't have a plan- Game Over. All the mechanics are there, you just have to take the time! And once you do, Pacific Drive is the answer to a survival-fps-driving-rougelike experience with crafting, looting, a unique art-style, nice graphics, and far-better-than-I-thought-there-would-be, sound design. Accidentally bump into an explosive dummy in the dark and you will surely **** thine pants. The only couple of things that have thrown me is two game breaking bugs where the mission wouldn't complete, so I had to complete it again. I would also have liked more horror, but this game wasn't made to be horror-specific, so that's on me. BUT, maybe the sequel could be far more scary? For little ol' me? I'm having a blast playing it and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Paper Dolls 25
Nov 16, 2023
The thing is I love the premise, the game play mechanics, the environment and even the lighting, but the execution was just- off. - Your character's walking is awkward, which makes running awkward, means you'll die a lot during chase scenes (of which are a lot of). Chase scenes can work, but not when they're frustrating. + The story was pretty decent. Kind of hard to follow. I would have loved more lore. The setting, culture and monsters were all very interesting. - Can't skip cut scenes. Small detail, but when you die a lot and have to rewatch the same, slow animation, over, and over- ...even Dark Souls isn't so cruel. +The visuals were insane, for a horror indie title. I spooked myself a FEW times just from my flashlight's shadow, or even objects suddenly being up close after I would turn around. The detail on things up close was fun to look at. +The puzzles were actually pretty clever. A couple, one involving a clock, was soooo ridiculous- once you finally figured out what to do. Otherwise, they were pretty fun and made you think. Some were pretty annoying though, so... To sum up Paper Dolls 2, the direction was great and the pulls from current horror game mechanics like the save room, item management, and so on. The visuals were wonderful and setting rather eerie, but the awful movement, aiming, shooting- controls in general, made the game play difficult to enjoy. I LOVE the direction this developer is going, and I see they have a Paper Dolls 1, so I hope to see them again soon.

A Doom-like FPS that creates its own flavor of intense combat using all the same mechanics as Doom. It works wonderfully well. So many things were done to give their own spin on Doom's own brand. If you like Doom and want another go at it, like a "We have Doom at home, but it's your Grandma's recipe and so it's going to be made with extra butter and no care for your heart related needs" ...go at it, then Prodeus is for you.

Wire Lips7
Nov 16, 2023
This was a pretty enjoyable indie horror title. It isn't very long, has some good scares, and environment can be unsettling (like what awaits atop the washing machine). Combining horror gaming troupes, Wire Lips is a fun time to play and can be beaten in a night. A spooOOooOOooky night. In short, Wire Lips is a good horror title to grab on sale some time. Don't expect anything too out of the horror-gaming ordinary, but do look out for this developer in the future, as they are on their way to making some top-tier horror games.

Midnight Submersion - Nightmare Horror Story3
Nov 9, 2023
Indie horror title that would be a fun time to pick up if on sale. It needed more polish, some progression was rather confusing and I had to restart a play-through when an electrical box door just wouldn't open. Enemy AI needs work, the story needs fleshing out but was heading in an interesting direction, and the gameplay needs tuning.

Ad Infinitum7
Nov 9, 2023
The presentation, concept, and themes were very interesting but missed the mark when translated to the game. Visually, the game is above par for an indie title, and the game play was rather scattered. Hiding mechanics that were hardly needed, puzzles were okay but rather copy-paste of current puzzles you'll find today, and most the scares just didn't land well. The biggest downfalls were the kind of boring mechanics of the boss fights, some game-breaking bug issues, and the overall loss of pacing in horror. The biggest achievements are the creativity, some good scares, voice acting, and a section with hanging mannequin parts that was absolutely creepy.

Alan Wake II9
Nov 9, 2023
Let me begin by saying that 15 hours into this game, I was ready to give it a 7 out of 10. The game play is unique by combing so many troupes that it becomes sentient, taking on its own shape. Visually, the game's lighting is on a next level. It good with sound design by adding ambience, in the way that the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Dead Space did so well. The story really is pretty amazing, by simply letting you assume so much, then blatantly telling you it was in front of you the whole time. There weren't that many bugs to note of, a couple times you'll casually walk up something you weren't suppose to, like a bench or large rock, and can get stuck if not careful. I had so much fun with this game, and I really went in with the focus on the "survival Horror" element they pushed so much, and I thought, "We'll see about that", but they did well. The gameplay is different between Saga and Alan, making it harder to traverse as Alan, and having a more combat/detective-heavy time with Saga. I was annoyed a first by the case timeline work on saga's end. It isn't really that hard, more of just placing a thing over and over until it sets. The story turned my score around to an 8, then when I realized just how fun it is to collect everything, fight the darkness, and look at the world, I moved the score to a 9. I got a second-wind playing this game and was sad when it did finally end. I would say, for a survival-horror game, it wasn't too scary, I played it on hard and got so much ammunition, I had no idea what to do with, and the if ever want to highlight the experience, smoke some weed.

Layers of Fear7
Oct 27, 2023
The visuals were amazing, they tied the stories together nicely, and the atmosphere was very well done. I guess I lost momentum about halfway through the second game. One thing to remember, this is two games, with DLC, AND extra content to tie it all together. it's a sweet package and a great remake of two, now classic, psychological horror games. But it can burn you out when running down hallways, solving puzzles, and dying from mistakes every so often become the norm.

Resident Evil 410
Oct 24, 2023
Just a wonderful return to form. They didn't back down from every dated RE4 design choice but if they couldn't improve it, they removed it. Good choice on leaving out the giant walking statue segment.
The game is great for new players and seasoned veterans alike. It offers more action that spooks, like in the original, but with the overhaul of visuals and sound design, even the emptiest of hallways seem creepy. Played through it twice in one year. Love it.

As a long-time fan of Dead Space, I give this game a 10 because every enhancement to the remake only improved, never hindered. I only wish could have played this game for the first time as a remake and I envy all who did. I would hope to see Dead Space 2 remade with the same care, and if they were to do a Dead Space 3 Remake, a complete overhaul of the story would be needed. Return the series to a single-player survival horror genre experience.

Bramble: The Mountain King8
Oct 24, 2023
I'm so ashamed it took me as long as it did to play this game. I assumed it would be a rip-off of Little Nightmares but instead, Bramble: The Mountain King makes it own voice, style, mood, and visuals to keep the player engaged like no folklore game has. It did exactly what I hoped it would do by exploring the folklore, which was made horrifying in gameplay and included the original tales that inspired the game/levels. The story combines multiple folklore into one tale that lasts about 4 hours. This was a creepy, easy puzzle-solving heavy, dark tale of a young boy searching for his kidnapped sister in a sinister forest of creatures.
I can't wait to see what they make next! If they just made more games that explored folklore, I would be down.

Remorse: The List7
Aug 30, 2023
Remorse: The List is a love letter to Cry of Fear, updated with modern visuals and a small-open world concept. My score is given based off the fact that Cry of Fear is an indie horror staple, but if that game didn't do it for you, neither will this. While it was great to see fast-moving twitchy enemies, creepy locations and spooky apartment corridors, the game itself needs some polish. I'm all for a no hand holding experience, but there were times that progression was imposible. I eventually had to look up a guide, then ultimately kept the guide out as I had realized there was no way I would have figured out what to do. Neither the story, notes, environmental story telling- nothing even hinted at what to do next. The tension was lost rather quickly and I was running and gunning, no problem. Where the game does shine is in its gameplay, enemy design, some decentley spooky ambience in close-quarter areas, and a nice horror game to remind of the good ol' Cry of Fear days. If you don't care for the good qualities of this game, you might not like it. I however can't wait to see what this developer does next!

Greyhill Incident5
Jun 14, 2023
It pains me to give this game a low score, but considering I love the premise of Alien Invasion Survival Horror so much, I decided to rate this a 5, rather than a 4. The game was definitely faulted in a few ways. Missions were often unclear. Character movements were blocky, and the running system made you feel chonky. Dialogue was alternating from funny, serious, and overall misspelt / incorrect grammar (though I do want to stress, the team isn't an English speaking developer, so I'm sure they did their best) In the end, certain mechanics of the gameplay just needed far more tweaking. When trying break free from an alien's grasp, the button mashing never seems to work correctly. And as far a using a PS5's R2 trigger to button mash, it isn't exactly the best button to use. The trigger is designed for their adaptive use and have a farther reach from un-pressed, to pressed (if that makes sense). The visuals were actually pretty impressive. The lighting was awing, the trees blowing in the wind added to the immersion, and most areas the character would spend time were detailed very well. Though once you step out of the buildings and off the main roads, the invisible fences, 2-D foliage, and graphical glitches began to show. Vast landscaped of flattened green were seen behind invisible barriers. Since the developer is Indie, and clearly becoming good at what they do (I mean that :) I hope to see what the sequel brings. In my opinion however, when I see the genre as survival horror, I do expect more horror. Not silliness and lines such as, " I don't want them putting things in my dirty ass!". Which DID make me laugh, but I was already over the game at that point. Greyhill Incident is a silly, good-looking at times, alien invasion game. I wouldn't say it's scary, but if you see it on sale sometime for a few bucks, it's a few hours of fun. Literally. it's only about 3 hours long. So grab some friends, pass the controller, and enjoy a weird slice of extra-terrestrial B-horror fun. But don't expect horror, survival, or a well polished product.

Amnesia: The Bunker9
Jun 14, 2023
Amnesia: The Bunker is a mix of Alien: Isolation, Amnesia, and a dash of Resident Evil mechanics (including a safe room, inventory and combination system, and back-tracking). This game was everything I hope for in a survival horror title. It has an unstoppable enemy, one safe room (or is it?), a no hand-holding approach on direction, and a gameplay system that has you on the edge of your seat. Planning every move before I left the Administration Office was so fun. I loved having to read notes in order to learn my next objective. The mechanic that has you re-fueling the generator was great, and would still allow you to roam around in the dark (with the exception that the monster can now roam free, of course) This game blew me away. It was far more scary than any other Amnesia title, IMO. I was never impressed with the whole, "your character gets scared, so now you go blind", thing. While Amnesia: The Bunker still has that mechanic, it doesn't completely ruin the experience. Instead, you pop-off a couple shots from your revolver, and run for a hiding spot. This is a MUST-PLAY for survival horror fans and horror fans alike. My only complaint? The final ending, or rather, the final interaction with the monster. Took me completely out of the immersion and just annoyed me. Otherwise, this would have been a 10 from me.

Oct 5, 2022
Since I love horror, I would have to say this is the best VR game out there. It runs very well and does an excellent job of making you feel like your playing a video game, and not just a VR game (if that makes sense). You can usually tell your playing a VR game because it is developed a little different, but this actually made me feel like the progression mattered, which weapon I used was important, and I found myself plotting out was I was going to do the next time I went into town. It has a cool inventory system, clever use of lighting for scary indoor sections, and the feeling that your in another world. I didn't finish it, but have since re-downloaded it and will continue my game. I CAN'T wait for the sequel with the PSVR2

The game will please anyone with a longing for Half-Life. It is clearly inspired by it but if your looking for a horror experience, it is not here. The game has good flow and the voice acting was great, but the overall game is shoot, go to next point, shoot, go to next point, etc. There are a couple of puzzles and some variety of enemies, but after a while I was just trying to get to the end. The world seems interesting, and if the developer does something else with it I would be interested, but I won't be replaying this one. Visuals are great and action is okay.

I'm a huge RE fan, and when I learned the remake was coming out I thought about playing the original RE3. I had never played it. In fact, it was the only one I never played from the PS1 era. Unfortunately, this remake did what Capcom has done before with RE games. It took the horror away and added action. The game looks great, it's hard to deny that the RE engine looks good, but the action was so horrible. Nemesis was nothing compared to Mr. X as far as horror, and he made me laugh aloud a couple of times by just how goofy it all was. There were moments of progression pause that were beyond frustrating. One takes plays in the hospital, where you have to defend a room from waves of zombies, and the other is the end. And how the hell can she lift that damn thing? (not mentioning what, to keep spoilers out) Overall, the game might be better for someone who isn't die-hard for RE. Especially after playing RE2 Remake, this one was obvious it had the multiple development issues it was accused of.

Infliction: Extended Cut7
Oct 5, 2022
The game was on my radar for quite some time, as it appeared on my PlayStation store suggestions often. I got the game on sale for $6, which definitely affects my score, because if I had spend $30 I'd probably give it a lower score. The game was fun and changed my expectations several times. I thought I had the mechanics and gameplay figured out, then it would swap everything up. It combines elements from Visage and MADiSON, but came out before both. One of those P.T. inspired games, Infliction had some good detail in scares, sprinkled with moments of progression frustration. Overall, for the price I paid, I had fun with the game and enjoyed my time. I hope to see something else from this developer soon.

A game made to remember dated mechanics and does so by enhancing graphics, and that's it. The visuals are pleasant and the sounds are gross and creepy, but the AI is horrible. I quickly became bored with enemies and found them to be more annoying than scary. When developers chase after the tank controls of original horror games, they always seem to forget that the best utilization of the camera angles, is the use of blind space. You can use the sound to your advantage and make things out of sight twice as scary. This did not. The puzzles were fun and the story was so-so. I couldn't understand why early on you meet someone else in the abandoned hospital filled with monsters, and the protagonist is just like, "oh yeah, someone else is just here and that's not weird nor should I question it." It immediately took me out of the game.

Such a fun game and a weird turn for the series. I didn't like the Ethan from RE7, but somehow they managed to change my opinion of him by the end of the game. The series has been in worse condition story-wise before, so I'm hopeful they will continue to pleasantly surprise me. One of the best Resident Evil game ever put out, and one of the best horror games ever made. They did so well with the visuals and gameplay that I've replayed the game multiple times now. Mr. X is absolutely horrifying the first playthrough and still enjoyable to run from after you've beaten the game once. For the price, the experience, the hours of game play, and the dedication to making a off-brand Resident Evil game, I enjoyed this very much. The combat was a bit rough, but the game did get me to jump a coupe of times. I hope the developer works on something new soon, because they sure did a great job for a first title. The inventory and gameplay are similar to RE7, and the level design and puzzles are closer to RE1. This is the best Resident Evil inspired game I've ever played. The story was decent, but some gameplay issues and overall ending kind of took me out of it. Sep 28, 2022
This was a much better game that I was expecting. The developer took time to make sure it wasn't an absolute copy of any other horror game, but kept mechanics similar to that of Visage. The story was interesting enough, but the introduction of BLUE KNEES really ended the game with a nice (terrifying) surprise! The visuals were great, no bugs, and puzzles were actually difficult at times. I can't wait to see what Bloodious games does next! (possible gameplay spoilers below) . . . . . . . . . . The game does have death, so things that go bump in the dark aren't always just jump-scare sounds. It is walking sim. Similar weapon and inventory usage as Visage. Story is displayed through cut-scenes, but reading files does enhance the story.

It was horrible. 0/10 for sure. As of today, the game has been upgraded and fixed exponentially. It's so fun and everything I had hoped for. I have seen a couple bugs, but nothing I wouldn't say is beyond what's expected these days. the story is actually pretty interesting, I skipped most conversations only to find myself started to listen to everything and pick up on who people are, and I even watched the recently released anime and absolutely love it. The game itself wasn't a bad idea. Silent Hill decorated escape room. Some scares were okay and some puzzles were too. One small flaw was that the character you play would not stop saying he had to get out of the hotel. Like every 3 minutes. The REAL reason the game is getting a zero from me, is because it was $30, for two f*ucking hours. I was so pissed when it ended suddenly. After what was suppose to be a cliffhanger, but really just came off as the next part of the game was coming up- some forest part. Then, credits. ....Buy the game when it is 2.99

I accidentally became a huge fan of the first game after I realized I replayed it three times. 20 hour DLC included. When the first one came out, there were problems. Each time I came back it was twice as good as the previous time. Dying Light 2 has bugs, but that's it. I love everything about the game already, 15 hours in. It's SO...ambitious. From what I played, they nailed about 85% of what they were trying to go for. I can look past all the bugs besides one. I can't sell any weapons or armor. Well some, but not all of them. I've sold maybe 20 and have 30+ waiting for the menu to register their existence. But thats it! Everything else has been amazing. I know they'll add on a HUGE dlc like last time (specially since they already announced it) and more improvments along the way. I wish it would get a re-review by all the big reviewing publishers in about 6 months.

An absolute staple in horror gaming. This is one of the best fine-tuned hide and run horror games ever made. It introduces ways to fight back but keep authenticity to the Alien's true horror; as you can only ward it off, not kill it. Fans of the movies will be delightfully surprised to find that the atmosphere, sound, and overall feel put you directly into an Alien movie from the 80's!

Attention to detail, great animations, elaborate upgrade rpg elements to weapons and character, and a fun time to revisit. I've beat the game once by myself, twice with friends, and now am giving it another go in excitement for the sequel. Great game, holds up!

I don't know what it was about this game that made it so addicting. Everything from it's gameplay to the map design was basically re-using the open world formula that has troped games for the last, perhaps, ten years. But they did everything better. While the discovery missions were "collect this one thing in about 50 different areas", the game was so beautiful to look at that I completed all of them! The story was okay, though I never really grew attached to any characters, I had a blast finishing it and loved every duel that I participated in. The gameplay was SO FUN. The parry and counter system never grew old. So I say to anyone, no matter what your choice in game genre is, you should play this. It is peak videogames and I loved the hard work the Insomniac team put in. Ghost of Tsushima is the first, and only game(so far), that I have ever platinum'ed.

This game is just shy of perfection. The atmosphere is terrifying and un-trustworthy. The narrative is dark and creepy. The antagonists are unique in their own ways, cunning and unpredictable, and behind any and every corner. This is the first horror game in a very long time that had me set down the controller and take a break. The only unfortunate drop-off, for me, was the ending. It came to a section of game where the storytelling was trope-ish and seemed rushed. I grew so bored that i even stopped playing for quite some time and eventually came back to finish it. But man, the first 90% of the game was worth the wait, and makes up for the rather dull ending. I REALLY HOPE this team is already hard at work on something else or even given the keys to an old horror franchise like Silent Hill. That would be on a level of Blue Point remaking games, but in the horror genre!
