A beautiful game that captures the essence of Alien and even expands its fiction. There are some cracks under the polish, but it gets more right than it gets wrong. [Dec 2014, p.91]
Alien: Isolation represents a strong return to form for an ailing franchise.

Unlike the creature at its centre, Isolation isn't structurally perfect, but it is brilliantly hostile in a way that's likely to shock many players. [Dec 2014, p.102]

«Alien: Isolation» — before I launched the game for the first time, I was not a fan of the Alien films. But after playing a solid 57 hours of gameplay, I wanted to watch a couple or three of the original films. And it is not just about the xenomorph itself, but about this atmosphere of eighties **** the way, an interesting fact — the first film came out back in 1979! Which was a shock to me, as well as to my acquaintances who watched this film in their distant childhood. As I said above, I like retrofuturism. Or rather, the way people of the future are imagined, and I also simply like all sorts of old-looking things. For example cameras, flip phones, box televisions, and various car models. As an example: a black “Chevrolet Impala” from 1967, those who know — know. The environment, reflections, and visual appearance of the game are magnificent and for the most part ahead of their time. The game's optimization is simply top-notch, despite the fact that I have a rather weak computer by today's standards, I can calmly play on medium settings and at 720p with 30+ frames per second! And if you switch to low graphics settings, the picture remains just as brilliant and the frame rate becomes almost twice as high! Yes, for the first thirty hours or so the Alien stressed me more than it scared me, but it could still give me a good fright. To be honest, at first I thought that the xenomorph had no vision, but after watching a friend play «Aliens vs Predators» I realized that the bastard is very much capable of seeing. But after some time, avoiding the Alien's attacks became much easier, once I learned its mechanics and habits.I even managed to use this to my advantage, in such a way that I would not have to personally exterminate the looters on this cursed ship. I simply threw some kind of grenade such as a flashbang at them, and at the call of the flash, the xenomorph itself would come out to them and eliminate them. The weapons in the game are worthy of my respect, very pleasant although unusual at first glance. But my favorite remains the shotgun. I love shotguns and counting pellets in the morning, and one of my favorite performers loved them as well.Even down to pellets in the face, which can also be fired with satisfaction into the mug of some android from «Seegson Corporation», who even by today's standards are not smart at all, but rather degenerate relics of the past within the Alien universe. After all, even in the film there was an android similar to Samuels in terms of intelligence. Although Samuels would be more human than some people in real life.Usually I play video games using speakers for sound output, but thanks to my acquaintance with whom we spent the first hours going through the game together, I had to use headphones. But even after that, I did not stop playing with them. The sounds of the environment, the ship, the looters, the xenomorph behind the wall and before your death are felt in such a way as if you are watching a film right in a movie theater. I even started using headphones more often for complete immersion in various games. One more thing worth adding is that the game is essentially a continuation of the original films of the franchise, since the game's story takes place fifteen years after the events of the first film. And the game contains scenes that close some small plot holes from the films. I will not specify. I also forgot to mention the musical accompaniment besides the sound itself, it is incredibly tense and in the spirit of slasher films from the eighties. And no, that is not a drawback, but a plus, at least for me. Because from time to time I love watching various videos dedicated to films of this genre. Such as «Friday the 13th», «Halloween», «A Nightmare on Elm Street», «Saw», and other giants of the slasher genre. It is a pity that there is not much content on the internet specifically about this game in the form of challenges, but it is what it is. And to be honest, I could write another two or three chapters about why this game is the best one of the last eight years of my life, but I already write entire essays in my reviews. And here I have long since gone beyond the acceptable text size limit, so I think you have already understood that without me saying it. So, thank you for reading my review of «Alien: Isolation». Good luck in your games of tag with the Alien on Sevastopol! And remember — in space no one can hear your scream…

As a lifelong fan of the Alien universe, I find this game a perfect example of an understanding of the source material, its concepts, atmosphere and fanbase. Combined with excellent gameplay.

That idea of never being comfortable with how the game is unravelling is something that feels quite unique and it’s extremely well imagined here. Plenty of survival horror games have you feeling vulnerable as you essentially fulfil the role of a hero but things are different here. In Alien: Isolation you’re not the hero, you’re the prey.

Why is this game rated so low? Incredible horror game that is extremly faithful to the original IP Atmosphere is top tier. The Alien AI is incredible, very intense. Sound design is terrifying. Only issue with the game is that specific chapters in the last 40%-30% of the game are a bit slow, very subjective opinion.

Alien: Isolation might lose you with its humdrum pacing and emotionless character, but in its many shining moments, you’ll catch yourself anxiously biting through your fingernails in absolute terror and dread.

There have been a handful of Alien games over the years, but none have delivered an experience so close to the intent of the films as Isolation. With visuals authentic enough to have been ripped right from the movies and a terrifyingly intelligent monster as the primary antagonist, Alien: Isolation makes for a memorable experience, and clear proof that Colonial Marines was the fault of the developer and not the material.

Alien: Isolation expertly captures the look and feel of the Alien universe, and The Creative Assembly's AI-controlled nemesis is an inspired move that will inform the survival horror genre, but the game is held back by some poor characterisation and storytelling.

Worth Playing
When the game works, it is head and shoulders above any other title that uses the license. When it fails, however, it descends into frustration and tedium.

It’s a bad sign that the weakest parts of Alien: Isolation are the parts with the alien. You’d think getting that right would be a priority. Instead, the best parts of the game involve running around space corridors and turning space handles and flipping space switches and pressing space buttons and getting through space doors and turning on space generators. But then an alien comes along and forces you to play something else entirely.

Good game. The level of difficulty spikes throughout your play through. The Alien can seem unfair sometimes and frustrating as it's instant death most of the time. The feel of the Alien movies is good. Definitely a trail and error type game so maybe not for everyone.

This is a bad game, the alien is copying Conker's Bad Fur Day, except it's boring

A very contrived game that is kind of immersion breaking due to the Alien parts. The Alien doesn’t work in an Alien game. It moves all wrong on hind legs like a Tank and no wall crawling. It’s a one hit kill monster with god mode infinite health that cheat teleports all over the massive space station. When ever the Alien(s) appears it’s very contrived and immersion breaking. Don't get me wrong it is cool to see all the Alien the movie style of analogue tech in a computer game. The game is is ok when facing off against humans and kind of fun when facing off against androids. At least the player has a fighting chance against those foes they can be killed/destroyed. The clunky UI makes the player move like a geriatric. Yeah I get the limited save options at certain points was to create a certain amount of extra tension. As opposed to save anywhere at any time, but I found it just time wasting annoying and cheap when dying to the instant kill, god mode, cheat teleporting Alien. Every games seems to need the obligatory crafting element these days, but it makes sense in a survival game using makeshift gear. Just throwing the very limited survival resources at the invulnerable Alien in god mode was a pointless drain. I only found the flametrhower the best quick fix to shoo the gawd damn thing(s) away anyway. A missed opportunity for a really great game let down by really bad and cheap Alien game design.

SummaryAlien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror game which captures the fear and tension evoked by Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic film. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must ... Read More
