The gameplay is ok, but every mechanic is made worse compared to Returnal. The story is the worst offender. The characters are abosutely unlikable and feel like they were written to please HR, not the player.

The stealth is bad. The shooting is rudimentary. The AI is terrible. The story is boring. The majority of characters are unlikeably (even Indi ... how did they manage that?). This game managed to actually make me root for the bad guys, because they are the only interesting characters. And if you know who the bad guys in this game are, you know HOW BAD the main characters need to be to make that happen ...

Could've been a good game in theory, but the gameplay is redundant and boring, the writing is flat and annoying, the characters are unlikable and on top of everything it is really hard to believe that a group of female writers that tried so hard to make this game "diverse" and "inclusive" managed to come up with something this racist and stereotypical.

A game that focusses on gameplay and stays very close to the source material without trying to push any agenda. A testosterone filled action fest where men are allowed to feel like men again. It would be a 10/10 if there were a bit more content, but it is still fully worth its price (also the devs keep adding and balancing the game several month after release, which is always great to see).

I can't even explain how aweful this game is. It looks terrible and plays worse. The character creator alone should be enough to keep any sane person from even giving this a chance. If you're insane and tried it anyway, you know that this game is simply offensive to the source material. On top of that it is poorly optimized.

The game feels like a more boring version of MH:World with a lot of unnecessary stuff attached. In good old MH fashion, the story is horribly slow, long and boring. After about 50% of the story I just skipped all cutscenes to protect my time and my sanity. But who cares about story. The gameplay is important. And that is ... meh. The game launched basically unfinished with a beyond unsatisfying endgame loop. They promised to add new stuff. So what are they adding? Underwater combat. The one thing nobody liked in the past and everybody was glad is gone. This game is dead to me.

Maybe I am suffering from Soulsborne-fatigue after over 15 years, Shadow of the Erdtree felt like Elden Ring, but worse in pretty much every way. I already wasn't a big fan of the open world in comparison to earlier entries that made for a more streamlined experience, but Erdtree's verticality makes the world just so un-fun to navigate. It doesn't feel mysterious, just tedious.

It is obvious that Fromsoft is shifting their priorities recently. Elden Ring still feels just as bombastic and atmospheric as previous games, but the open world and combat system are aimed more towards the "casual" audience than previous games. A lot of systems in the game enable cheesy strats that don't require skill, but just looking up what works on Youtube and in comparison to a well crafted experience like Sekiro, Elden Ring feels a bit more like a sandbox version of litttle Timmy's first Fromsoft game. Everybody is supposed to finish it one way or another. The story is still amazing, the combat in general is great if one doesn't deliberately try to break the game and the overall experience still is amazingon it's own, just maybe a slight letdown for longtime series fans.

Rarely have I been so outspokenly against a game with a certain art-stlye choosing a genre as I used to be with Returnal. I love the style and just couldn't imagine a frantic bullet hell game would do the setting justice. I still gave it a try and it instantly became my game of the year for 2021. Firstly the combat feels great. The speed is less frantic than I expected and while quickly reacting to enemy attacks is surely a big element of the combat, understanding enemy patterns and planning around them is just as important. Each of the guns feels unique and the randomized drops and affixes add a lot of variety. The rogue-like part was another core element that initially turned me off the game, but the difficulty is challenging but fair and every run makes the next one slightly easier through a built in lasting progression system. I managed to beat the game fully on my sixth attempt, yet kept going for several more clears. Lastly, the story is simply amazing. To not spoil anything I won't say more than it is mysterious and keeps the player guessing what is going on til the very end. Overall I have to admit that I have never before been so wrong about a game. Returnal is plain awesome.

Darksiders III

The Darksiders series has a bit of an identity crisis. Every game is vastly different from the previous one. After the first one was basically a Zelda for adults, the second one dipped deep into RPG elements and now the third one drops this completely and wants to be a Souls-like. I enjoy all of these genres and therefore don't mind the experimentation. Darksiders 3 feels competently made, has an overall engaging story if you played the previous entries, but mostly get carried by interesting environments and a solid combat system, which isn't easy but surely not as challenging as the usual Souls game.

I have a lot of nostalgia for this game and I want to give it a 9/10. I loved the original on the Xbox and I love this remaster. Unfortunately it has the same glaring issue that the original had: the hitboxes don't work correctly. A weapon or arrow may obviously hit the enemy, but the hit is regularly not registered. This issue is so drastic and frequent that it changes the entire way the player has to approach combat, making melee not only less enjoyable, but objectively forcing players to play in certain ways to work around this problem. I found myself forced to either use casters for their homing spells or using a single combo over and over again, but only really using the third and final strike of the combo, as it generates an aoe splash damage effect that always hits.I like remasters and remakes that stay close to the original, but leaving obviously unintended problems (which nowadays would simply be patched out in the first week) in the game is unacceptable.

This game was a huge disappointment for me. The combat system is alright but becomes pretty stale quickly. The constant ability shouting during combat is so annoying that I actually muted the game after a while. And the story is so bland, boring and clichee-ridden that it became unbearable that I skipped every single cutscene after about half of the game. This will most likely be the last Tales game I ever bought.

Not every game needs to be the next Elden Ring. There is a place for games that are fun while they last and don't overstay their welcome. Asterigos is one of these games. It is solid in pretty much all aspects, but nothing that re-invents the wheel. While most mechanics feel like taken from a Fromsoft Souls game, the lower difficulty makes it more of a "play to enjoy Souls-Light" experience. Not trivial, but fun-focussed. I surely enjoyed it as a palette cleanser between bigger releases.

Rating a remake is always difficult, as expectations vary so strongly. Some people want it to be just like the original but prettier, others want it to reinvent the old and often outdated gameplay to meet modern standards. This remake surely takes the first route and is basically the old game in a new engine. I assume anybody born after the turn of the millenium would have trouble to understand why this game is such a gem, as it is a remnant of an era long gone. I, however, played the original on release and loved reliving this experience in modern day graphics just as much as I enjoyed playing the original as a child.

Elden Ring Nightreign

Jun 11, 2025
As a Souls veteran I was very sceptical of the concept of Nightreign at first, but after playing this game for over 65 hours in only seven days and earning the platinum trophy, I have to admit that the game is absolutely great (and fairly addictive). Its only problem is that it is made for a very specific audience that enjoys Souls games, Rogue-likes and Battle-Royal games all at once (or at least doesn't despise the core concepts of either). The game gets a lot of unjustified hate from butthurt people who rather would've liked to see an Elden Ring 2, but it was developed by a different team and I want to judge the game for what it is, rather than what it isn't. I usually don't enjoy playing with random people, but I was surprised how well it works. Many complain about the missing chat or voice chat functionality, but I prefer the rudimentary map pinging system. Worked out pretty well for me so far. And considering the game has been patched to be perfectly soloable, even antisocial people like me can just do their own thing if so desired. For a 40 Dollar/Euro game, I couldn't have asked for much more. I definitely enjoyed this refreshing step away from the usual formula.
