For what is the debut creation of a small indie studio, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is quite the impressive feat, and the team behind it should be proud of what has been accomplished here. A very good video game, however, this is not. Combat and generally the controls are good, the developer worked really hard to provide tons of world building, the whole thing looks pretty, and everything works as intended…but it’s just not that exciting. Almost everything on offer here sits exactly in the middle of the fun factor spectrum. It’s an okay game that lasts about 40 hours.

While Asterigos has excellent graphics and music, basic elements like the combat system feel cheap, making the package as a whole feel like an unbalanced Soulsborne title.

Overall, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a passable quality experience that excels when it leans into its Monster Hunter/Dauntless-esque multiphase boss fights, interspersed with more solitary bouts of exploration and subsequent discovery. Had the developers leaned further into this hypothetically simplified formula, while offsetting it with the existing rich and dense progression system, Asterigos could have proved its mettle as a more-than-worthy contender in the market. However, its poor control responsiveness, its often-needlessly ham-fisted approach to forcing linearity where it's not needed, and its debatable narrative quality, also collectively hold it back from reaching its full potential.

Great game, not incredible, not inventive, but does everything a souls-like/action adventure RPG game has to do.

Not every game needs to be the next Elden Ring. There is a place for games that are fun while they last and don't overstay their welcome. Asterigos is one of these games. It is solid in pretty much all aspects, but nothing that re-invents the wheel. While most mechanics feel like taken from a Fromsoft Souls game, the lower difficulty makes it more of a "play to enjoy Souls-Light" experience. Not trivial, but fun-focussed. I surely enjoyed it as a palette cleanser between bigger releases.

If there's one thing that I like to be known for in my life, it's perseverance. The determination to never give up is a staple for me, and it's something that I impart on a lot of those around me. This even extends to video games. I don't like quitting. It pisses me off and makes me feel like I've given up on a part of myself, even when it's something as ridiculous as a damn game. Nevertheless... I have played a few games in my life that have gotten me to that point. Enough frustration was felt that I decided it was probably best for my own sanity to pull the plug. The biggest perpetrator of this for me was probably Bloodborne. I'm loathe to lay blame at the foot of an inanimate object, but hot damn that game pissed me off pretty quickly in the 2 hours total that I spent playing it. I took it back that day and got something else. Years later, I bought Asterigos while it was on sale through PSN. It looked like something that would be right up my alley. Inspirations from Greek/Roman architecture and mythology, a character whipping a sword around and slapping baddies, and enough discovery and lore to keep my mind occupied for days on end. After 16 hours of playing it... I gave up. Now, don't give up on this review just yet. In the iconic words of Matthew Lillard's Stu from Scream, "But wait, there's more!" I came back to it nearly one year later. And I'm so glad I did. For the rest of this review and others, visit WordsmithsAnvil . com

This is definitely a title made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and while it’s hardly a flawless production, I think it’s worth checking out for people who sit on either side of the fence. If you’ve always wanted to love a Soulslike title but never quite got there, this might help get you over the hump; if you love them but don’t mind something being a bit more Souls-lite, this will delight you. It’s not going to make it on to my short list of worthy Game of the Year contenders, but it’s a solid outing all around, and that’s not nothing.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a remarkable action-RPG with Souls-like elements. It offers an engaging, dynamic combat that doesn’t get dull while you uncover a thousand-years old mystery of the fallen city of stars and decide the fate of Aphes.

In short, this game is definitely worth playing for any action game fan in general (not just soulslike) but it's not 10/10. I gave it 10 to offset all the rated 0 reviews from idiots who keep complaining about the key bindings which I am pretty sure will be fixed very soon by the dev team. Given this is from a indie Taiwanese dev, it's actually more fun and polished than many action games I have played recently (Soulstice, Valkyrie Esylum)

Asterigos Curse of the Stars is a non-innovative, but fun and solid action role-playing game. It offers a good amount of content at a budget price, an interesting story that can be deepened if you invest time in narrative collectibles. It has no major flaws, but at the same time it does not excel.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars offers a lengthy adventure with a well-thought and diverse combat system that sits somewhere between the high challenge of soulsborne and the ease of a hack ‘n slash. It’s only marred down by some bad design decisions (like the absence of fast travel until halfway through), which could be avoided if -maybe- some more testing was done.

Asterigos has a great world design and a combat system that is similar to the Souls series, while being faster and more action-oriented. It's just the exploration elements that let the game down, as the city of Aphes can sometimes feel a little too empty for its own good, and its residents a little too verbose. Those who don't mind backtracking and skipping dialogue should be able to see through the muddy parts and enjoy Asterigos' finer points.

Not a bad game but probably would have been better if done in a different style than soulslike.

- 25 - 45 hour long. -repetitive combat, little enemies type, stupid enemy ai, interesting story but boring long dialogs, they give u teleport late game and bad glory ending. -side quests hard to navigation and must remember what they said there's no side quests list to remember. -good content, u have 6 different weapon type, good main and secret bosses.

The game is incredibly mid. Fighting is boring and too simple, skills are boring and pointless, level design is sub-par, with every level being a labyrinth where everything looks the same, and you don't get fast travel until the half-way point of the game. But the worst is the story, with the typical mary sue little girl being stronger than men and loved by everybody except one-dimensional evil men. There are also other cringe characters and little stories. I drew the line and uninstalled when in this one apartment there were noises and dialogue of a dominatrix beating up a guy and calling him a useless pig. It had nothing to do with the story and it completely didn't fit the tone of the game which is supposed to be this magical adventure. And think what would happen if the roles were reversed.
