Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II

Space Marine 2 is the ultimate Warhammer 40K experience. It perfectly captures the essence of 40K and transfers it into the action-adventure format. Its three game modes offer countless hours of gameplay and tons of customization options to look forward to. For Warhammer fans, this game is a must-play, and a perfect entry point for those uninitiated into the lore of 40K.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a sequel that builds on the legacy of Relic Entertainment. It does so by offering an exciting campaign that perfectly conveys that feeling of perpetual war and all the “grimdark” typical of its setting. Even without ever reaching the depth typical of other games in the same genre, the combat system infuses all the physicality and brutality of the Astartes. The optimization is also good, despite some small flaws that can be easily solved with a round of patches. The only let down is the soundtrack, light years away from the epicness of the first game.

A great entry point for people new to the Warhammer 40k franchise, as well as a nice throwback to the action games of old. No open world, no Souls-like mechanics, no “meaningful” story choices. Just you, your bolter and a whole lot of enemies to mow down. [Issue#265, p.72]

With climactic setpiece moments dosed heavily throughout each mission, endlessly enjoyable third-person gunplay, and impressive swarm tech that pits you against hundreds of enemies at once, little time is wasted on anything that isn’t fun in Space Marine.

If you were expecting a comprehensive action adventure with exploration, variety, depth and motivating character development, you should definitely look for another game, because Space Marine 2 simply doesn't offer all of that. Even Doom Eternal offers a lot more here. To be fair, however, it must also be said that the developers of Space Marine 2 never promised anything other than graphically rich co-op slaughter.

Space Marine 2 is a solid successor to Space Marine, fits well into the Warhammer universe, and offers engaging and fun action combat and shooting mechanics. It is slight marred by a limited map pool creating repetitiveness in the game's multiplayer progression-based features.

The online is very good and hard the pvp is nicely created and the pve is nicely difficult and the campagin is short but good

As a Warhammer 40,000 fan. This game made me smile. Please note that this review was written by someone who has completed the campaign, played a bit of single player PVP but no multiplayer at all. Played using an Xbox Controller on a PC on ultra settings. The Good - An excellent, faithful representation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe - You 'feel' like a Space Marine, with weight, power and righteous fury - Visually the game looks incredible. Not only in terms of general graphics; but the art style is fantastic, the set pieces look amazing and are technical works of art and the attention to detail is so appreciated - The story although simple, is very good fitting in well to the 40K universe - Combat is simplistic yet brutal, and very satisfying - The sound design and music is excellent and again captures the feel of the universe. The voice acting is outstanding across the board - The writing is brilliant. Many times did this game make me grin listening to the brutal quotes - The main character Titus is very appealing and has a good dynamic with other characters - A true 'power fantasy' that makes you feel powerful when you play Neutral - The campaign is short. For my taste, I don't mind this but for others they may want more - The woke stuff increasing the diversity of the Imperium is not to my taste, however for others they may not mind this - Story-wise without spoiling too much it's not far off the kind of format of the original Space Marine game - When it comes to health, it may be a bit subjective in terms of how this is managed. It took me time to get used to it, and generally speaking it works. But at times may make you not 'feel like a Space Marine'. However, despite this once you get used to it it works. This is more open to debate and kinda comes down to how one interprets the power of a Space Marine and how they fight - I only had 1 crash the whole game. For a 40K game with huge set pieces and large battles with lots going on that looks this great - that's pretty darn good IMO. - I did have some texture pop in at times. That might be my system, so I don't want to blame the game. But it was noticeable. Again this may be me and not necessarily that game's fault The bad - Weapon variety is somewhat lacking. They give you variety of standard Space Marine rifle variations but none of them are a real gamechanger. Not really a huge amount of different stuff outside of that. - I only played 2 or 3 PVE missions by myself. I don't know how they are with friends but generally speaking there wasn't much going on in them beyond very basic objectives - Aside from Jump pack sections the only real gameplay variation is stuff like 'Defend here for X amount of time' or 'Survive for X amount of time' or 'Activate X'. Unlike games other third person shooters like say Gears Of War or Uncharted there isn't much really spicing things up - I won't mention the character's name, but there was one very important character who I felt was lacking and a bit boring compared to the dynamic other characters had. And they had little in terms of a resolution or journey of their character, and there's one particular moment in the game that seem out of character and jarring - Not the best enemy variety I've seen in games. And there's little in terms of differing your strategy to beat them So overall, I really enjoyed my time with Space Marine 2. Especially as a 40K fan. It was a pleasure to play. Would I recommend you buy this? - If you are a 40K fan and want to play lots of PVP and PVE online and loved the first Space Marine game, I would say absolutely. Support this company with your purchase. They did a wonderful job. - If you are not really that familiar with 40K but like third person shooters, I'd say definitely buy but maybe wait until discounted - If you aren't really a multiplayer gamer and just like single player, again I'd say this is worth a buy but probably at a discount. Had fun playing the campaign and operations, finishing it in about 30 hours. I am not too hyped to return to it. Major features like the weapon unlocks felt better in the first in the series.

I like the Warhammer World. But after a 2h try this game is so boring. Gameplay has nothing that catch me.

Visually amazing and the enemy tech is beyond impressive but the combat feels awkward, the timed elements a haze against the swarm of enemies. The mission-style of gameplay really hindered my understanding of what was actually happening with the story and that's important because... I'm brand new to the franchise and there was little in the way of explaining ANYTHING. Did we have to read up on 40K lore prior to playing? Read up on the events of the first Space Marine game? I mean I could maybe recommend or you want to just shoot lots of stuff or if you're already a fan of the franchise? Definitely not for me though.
