Atwell’s committed voice performance amplifies the strong character writing, further enhanced by bold imagery more akin to a psychological thriller. She may be animated, but this iteration is the most fully rendered Croft has been yet outside of the games.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has action, mystery, and a sincere emotional core that combine to form a fleshed-out world and story that will pique your interest. With plenty of compelling plotlines, questions, and characters set up in the first episode, we look forward to continuing on with them to see where this exciting adventure will lead.

Moving with grace from level—er, episode to episode—this Netflix series is a welcome, enjoyable binge watch that’s likely to land with Lara Croft novices and fans alike.

Some fans of the franchise might be quick to make the complaint that they would rather have another video game installment, rather than a television series, but The Legend of Lara Croft seamlessly captures the tone and the world that made the Survivor Trilogy so effective in the first place.

Overall, "The Legend of Lara Croft" fails to capture the same flair and sense of adventure that's so deeply embedded in the video games.

Outside of the main villain’s arc (which had me rolling my eyes), the eight-episode story isn’t bad. But just about everything else – characters, story, animation – is mediocre.

The Legend Of Lara Croft is an uneven bridge between the old and new of the Tomb Raider franchise, one that doesn’t quite live up to the high standards of the recent video-game-to-anime renaissance.

I really enjoyed this series; it tells the story after the first *Tomb Raider* from 2013, and I feel it prepares us to play *Rise of the Tomb Raider*. I greatly appreciate the focus on life balance, and I like how Lara realizes through experiences and the loss of her loved ones that it’s not all about what she wants but also about what she needs as a person. I think we all go through that. What I love about this first season is what I loved about the first game: it shows Lara's progress throughout all the episodes. We go from just returning from Yamatai to understanding that the most important thing is having your loved ones close to you and that you’re willing to risk your life for them.

It's not very good. This isn't close to any of the past 3 iterations of Lara Croft both in terms of looks, personality or plot line. She cries a lot in this series and there's a heavy undertone emphasis on romance in this show (two things the games didn't ever do). IGN made a series of web toons over a decade ago that were better representations of what a Tomb Raider carton/anime should be like. The only redeeming features this show has is that Haley Atwell and Richard Armitage deliver stellar performances to the very poorly written script.
