The show still can't make the militaristic subplot fit with the more fantastical elements, and the need to show Vergil's side of the past makes for a somewhat unnecessary retreading of season 1's events. But with the fan-favorite antihero's debut still coming with plenty of stylish action setpieces, emotional character evolution, and overall gorgeous animation, it's still a largely thrilling time from start to finish.

Though the plot remains a bit predictable and the animation suffers from its use of CG, Vergil is a great addition to the show and brings with him a darker tone, a compelling emotional story, and some kick-ass fight scenes.

Dante and Mary ‘Lady’ Arkham are where season two’s biggest and most delightful surprise comes. .... They are much closer to their video game counterparts this time. Not that it’s a be-all and end-all requirement for every gaming adaptation, but it does work far better for the story when it comes to franchises such as this.

It does feel like a slight step down, but even then, the absolutely sensational technical aspects and visuals flawlessly emulate the classic Capcom series and boast more than enough bloody great spectacle to satisfy more casual fans.

If you’re a fan of the video game franchise, then you’ll likely want to skip this series just on principle, but if you’re new to the world of Devil May Cry or a returning Season 1 viewer who loves exciting action and doesn’t mind a slightly underwhelming plot, then give Season 2 a shot.

Devil May Cry Season 2 delivers more recognisable elements that fans will probably enjoy, but the overbearing style can often be a bit much to deal with.

Very much enjoyed it. Music, animation and art is great. VA work is spot on. As long as you understand it’s non-canon a lot can be enjoyed for what it is.

I tightened it while keeping your tone, criticisms, structure, and overall style intact. This version is under 5000 characters.Okay… I’ll start this review by saying: yeah, I kind of knew it would turn out this way, but they still managed to screw up the story, characters, and lore beyond my expectations.Cons:The continued butchery of the lore; insisting some demons are basically just humans with deformities, so we shouldn’t think of them as demons but “Makaians” (eyeroll).Mary Arkham (I’m not calling her Lady) remains an unlikable, irrational false protagonist.Dante still feels like a side character in his own show, and somehow he’s even more of a moron this **** show continues injecting real-world politics and Hollywood viewpoints on war, Christianity, etc. in the most heavy-handed way possible. It was one of my biggest issues with S1, and it still is **** story is full of plot holes and inconsistent power scaling. Characters are strong in one scene and weak in the next because the plot demands it.Poor characterization all around; out-of-character decisions and illogical leaps constantly **** forced romance between Dante and Mary is chemistry-less and completely **** antagonists are mostly unimpressive. Mundus should have been the true main villain, and at first I thought they’d actually portray him as the manipulative tyrant he is in DMC lore… but they screw that up **** finally: Vergil. Oh, my poor Vergil. Next to Dante, he’s the most important character in DMC, and I should’ve known they’d mess him up too.Positives:The voice acting is very good.I liked most of the original soundtrack by Power Glove, even if the show overuses it **** animation and fight scenes (minus the CGI moments) are easily the strongest aspect of the anime. This season at least tried to focus more on adapting storylines from the games. The execution was shaky, but I appreciate the **** biggest surprise for me was Arius. They actually took a forgettable villain from the worst game in the series and turned him into a decent ****, did I hate S2 as much as S1? Yes and no.I went into it fully expecting another disaster after how badly Adi Shankar handled the lore, story, and characters in S1. Those problems still exist, but this season focuses more on core DMC conflicts like Dante vs Vergil, Mundus, Argosax, and Arius. That alone made it an improvement over S1.Unfortunately, it still suffers from the same major issue: bad storytelling and **** paper, some ideas are actually interesting. Adi Shankar and Alex Larson pull elements from several games and remix them instead of doing a direct adaptation, which I’m completely fine with. In fact, that aspect pulled me in despite **** the execution keeps failing.Arius is probably the only storyline they handled decently. Aside from that, the show mixes game plotlines with its own bizarre worldview and only half-executes the ideas properly.Example: Vergil’s backstory. In this version, he’s captured, tortured, and brainwashed by Mundus into believing Argosax was responsible for his suffering. Fine. I can accept that change. The problem comes later when Vergil discovers Mundus lied to him… and still keeps believing his obvious manipulation afterward.Dante knows Mundus is lying. We know Mundus is lying. Even the script knows Mundus is lying. But Vergil still falls for it. Vergil in the games is traumatized and obsessive, but he is NOT stupid. Making him this gullible completely destroys the character. Then there’s the forced Dante/Mary romance subplot that comes out of nowhere. These two have zero chemistry, and the show gives no believable reason for them to be together. This is basically my problem with the anime in general: whenever it focuses on actual DMC elements, it pulls me in. But whenever it injects its political messaging (“good demons,” war-on-terror parallels, “all Christians are evil,” etc.) and mishandles the characters, it ruins the experience.People criticize DMC games for having simple stories, but those games still understood “show, don’t tell” better than this anime does. The original DMC, despite its old graphics and limited cutscenes, portrayed Mundus as a terrifying manipulative overlord far better than this show. Here, Adi tries too hard to justify Mundus with “he wants order for the demon world” nonsense. Sometimes evil is just evil, and that’s fine.Maybe I sound too harsh, but when the creator constantly talks about loving DMC and wanting to do justice to the franchise, it’s hard to believe him after changing the lore, characters, and world so fundamentally that I spent half the show rolling my eyes.Still, on a positive note: if this anime gets more people into the games and makes them fall in love with the real DMC, then that’s a good thing. I just wish the showrunners had more respect for the IP they claim to love.Rating: 4.5/10

The only redeeming quality of this show is it's music and animation. Fight scenes are very good. If you wanted a Reddit rewrite of DMC you've got it, terrible.

Really the quality have dropped a lot since season 1, i really enjoyed last season. This season story didnt have any sense and music scenes were put in so cringe moments. I wont be seeing season 3 after wasting Time on this one.

American Devil May Cry strikes again! Fixing some of the problems of the previous season but still missing the mark completely about his characters, storys and lore in general.
