It's not complete trash, but it isn't that great either. They shoulda took far less creative liberties. It's also its own continuity (cause its a remake) unlike other complete trash shows with zero redeeming qualities, such as the fallout tv show.

I would recommend this. of course, it could never live up to the original ATLA standards, but I love the idea, and this is so much better than the movie

This review isbased on season 1 alone. This was very enjoyable, good story that made sense, enjoyable characters and good actor/actress choices. I could happily watch the other two seasons. It was very action packed through out and funny in places and also very wholesome.

This is my favourite series from my childhood. I didn't watch the film adaptation for a long time, because I was afraid of being disappointed in the performance. But I am delighted. The actors, the acting, and the special effects are perfectly matched. I can't wait for the new season

As expected it checks off all the boxes for Netflix woke propaganda. It started off good with the first two episodes, but as the episodes progressed it went full woke. It follows all the themes for strong female character propaganda to a T. 1. Women in the water bending tribe are forbidden from fighting in war, they insist they want to fight. 2. The sister of Prince Zuku is the disgusting power hungry "girl boss" type. There is nothing feminine about her, her character is just a man but played by a woman. 3. Katara somehow becomes prince Zuoku's equal in combat because of course she does she's a strong female character. 4. The leader of the tribe tries to pass power to his daughter if anything should go wrong. The filmography and quality was not bad for a Netflix series, some parts looked really cheap. I think this entire series is woke trash and will end up making the Avatar a side character in his own series as Netflix did with the Geralt in "The Witcher". Don't trust Netflix. It's just a strong female propaganda machine at this point. Every single piece of content is to push their woke trash, sadly not even the Avatar could escape this woke trash agenda.

Is overall a better try than the Shyamalan movie but still is totally lacking all the charming and emotion that the animated series **** story feels rushed, the acting is mid and the worst thing is: the main characters are poorly written, they are stripped of all complexity, specially Aang. Aang was a contagiously happy, energetic and kind of innocent child, his arc was to realize that he must fulfill his role as Avatar, even when he fears it, that journey is non-existing here, he want to be the Avatar in episode 2, and the actor transmit no happiness. Same with Sokka, they all feel like water down versions of the animation's characters. Iroh being the only character i feel correct and well play by the **** action sequences has a few bad moment but i think in general is well made and looks interesting.Another thing is everything looks so... fake? IDK whats with Netflix series, but the make everything looks "cosplay-ish" everything looks like props, Disney does that ****, no hype, no charm, no emotion. Go watch the original animation again.

This live action adaptation of the best animated series ever made is fantastic! The creators have done a great job at interpreting the original material, yet also added enough new content to make it seem fresh. I look forward with great anticipation to further seasons.

Although the cast is pretty interesting and seems to be very close to the original animated version (physically) the lack on the scenario is so bad that it's just unbelievable. The violence and the unnecessary kills are the most choking part! People being burned alive, characters that never was aggressive in the original story became war defenders... What is wrong with mental state of producers? Everything it's so frustrating! What everyone love in the original version is that despite the horrors of war and the fighting that Aang with another characters is facing, there are no so shocking sadistic scenes. Why in the world do we need to be faced by this like it's a norm? This is not a show about Avatar Aang and his journey, but about war and destruction. Another point is the scenario... well I don't even know from where to start... The studio told us that it will be very close to the original production, but after the first episode (that indeed is pretty close) they messed up everything! -The advising avatar scene completely diferent (probably moved by feminist movement). -Characters out of their original performances and places, mixed together in one place and time. - Lack of Aang learning bending water. ... Let's just say... Netflix messed up another great opportunity (just as with the Winx).

A masterclass in wasted potential. As unfair as this rating seems when I only made it through the opening minutes of this series, the criminally underwhelming introduction (specifically the conflict between the two Fire Nation men) and the introductions of Aang and Gyatso were so flat, boring and underwritten that I stopped watching after the latter. After the incredible highs of the cartoon, it was very sad to see yet another live-action adaptation fail so spectacularly.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024) is an almost insulting retelling of a beloved, amazing, animated series. While this is closer to the original, and the casting is pretty solid, the writing fails to understand what made the original so dang good. Just watch the original. This is no replacement for excellency.

As someone who came into this with no personal history with the graphic novels or previous adaption - I was eager to see how Netflix would showcase the series. Didn't realize it would be so horrendous. Bad acting, bad dialogue "soaring music" for every hug or watery eye. Dumb dumb dumb

None of the actors seemed to take the show seriously, especially the lead child. It's a pretty bogus show, although it would probably be pretty good as an animated series. Our recommendation is: "skip it for something else because there are a lot of elses available."

To start of with some positive points, the feeling, the casting in some places, the setting/world design and soundtrack is great. Some backstories and new scenes not touched upon in the original are great additions to this series, but otherwise for a fan of the original series this is somewhat dissapointing. Not as dissapointing as the movie from 2010 but story wise often far away from the original. There is nothing wrong shortening storylines or arcs for the live action series but the level of change here is just frustrating for a 19 year long fan. Stuffing characters and arcs in episodes together. Sure, they all cannot get their 22 minute episodes here but the arcs could've been structured better even in episode. Characters appear in different locations here and completely change the meaning of the original episodes. We also see characters acting highly different in comparison to their original which mostly results in weird dialogues between them and their counterpart here, plot points also were changed around so the suspense for the reveal is missing. The inclusion of characters we would'nt see originally until the season 1 finale or even the start of season 2 is again weird but in the context of the writers showcasing every character understandable. The series is sometimes written with the knowledge of later released Avatar related projects or plot points of the latter seasons thus complecating stories, imo. All in all I can only say the this was a semi enjoyable watch, my hope is the writers get a couple of episodes more for Book 2 and 3, the structuring of the arcs and locations needs work. Many episodes and arcs feel compromised here. I'm thrilled for the next seasons.

To **** bending is great, scenery and art direction are gorgeous , as are the costumes. The casting of Katara, Aang, and Sokka are spot on as well. Unfortunately that is all I can say for this show that is favorable. After the debacle of M. Night Shalaman"s take with his movie, we were hoping for a more dedicated telling of Netflix"s series, especially after seeing the trailers for the show. Boy oh boy, were we wrong. The series started out with great promise, but after the first couple of episodes we soon got the Shalaman treatment with the mishmash of episodes crammed together into what was to be 8 episodes of the first season, which was the book of water. (for reference, the Nickelodeon version had 20 episodes in the first season) Characters and storyline are thrown together in what I can describe as "What the heck" kind of moments. We went from the enjoyment of seeing the story/characters we fell in love with from the cartoon series, turn to picking the series apart from inconsistent thrown together storylines, introduction of characters from other parts of the show way to early or late, changing of character arcs and behaviors, horrible dialog that don't fit the situation, to name a few. If you have never seen the cartoon series, then you will probably like Netflix's version. If you are a diehard fan of the cartoon series like us, then you will most likely hate it. We have officially stopped watching the Netflix version after 6 episodes, knowing that the rest of the series will most likely be butchered and slapped together in the same manner as this first season and therfore unwatchable for us. If they would've stuck to the original storyline, character arcs, episode consistency, etc..Neflix would have had a sure winner to go with the fantastic scenery, special effects, casting, and great costumes. I have no doubt that subscriptions would've soared for the streaming service. But unfortunately, it will now fall alongside The Witcher series as missed opportunities of pure gold. Do yourself a huge favor and pass this series on by, and go back and watch the cartoon version from Nickelodeon. You will have a better time and be less confused and critical.

This Adaptation is the prime example of how you **** up a well written show and take away the personality of MANY characters! Please watch either the original Series, the Comics or something else altogether It's an absolute slaughtering of the Original and doesn't do It any justice!

It's *not* as bad as some reviews would have you believe, however I do agree with many of the thoughts. If you need a gauge on whether to watch or not, I would say if you enjoyed the original animation, then watch it just for the live action conversion. The visuals are by far, some of the best in translating cartoon to live-action I have seen yet. The *one catch* is you really need to not have any expectations on the dialogue and story elements. Look, I love Star Trek: The Next Generation, and if you sit through Season One's 26 episodes, you wonder how a second season ever was approved. In some places it is just ridiculously bad. Let's give Avatar: The Last Airbender at least some room to grow, because in many places this is better than other shows in their first season. The visuals are great, many of the child or younger actors do well, and some of the fight scenes mirror what you would expect in the animated version. With that said, the negatives can really pull you out of the story. There is a lot of "tell not show," in the script, versus "show don't tell." Characters spend an awfully lot of time explaining things that the audience doesn't need to have explained- don't say, "I'm really nervous," instead just show beads of sweat on the character's forehead. The other part of the script that takes you right out of the story is Aang and his friends. There is zero growth for Aang from "I'm just a 12 year old," to all of a sudden giving whole crowds, and even royal characters speeches that start with, "I know you're scared....". No 12 year old would talk like that even in this fictional world, and it makes the story and script very uneven. Back and forth from kid to adult speeches without the character growth to get there. There is a lot of adult responsibility talk that sounds like young writers forgetting it is a 12 year old giving the speech. Maybe they *need* ChatGPT to give them some tips on talking to 6th grade students! This applies to Aang's friends as well. Often the girls are far superior to the males in many things, however *not always.* I give the writers credit for a few scenes where advice was ignored from the males, and later it turned out to be true. Now, the elephant in the room- the changes in some character arcs and whole characters involved in the story. I won't give spoilers, however there has been a lot of debate on why some of Aang's past selves have now been changed as his kind of 'mentors' in this version. In addition, there are just some silly character actions that don't ring true for young girls or boys. Despite my best efforts, I can't unsee the insertion of some current ideology into the story. Again, it is usually not too bad, however it is there. One scene has a male washing himself with no shirt on, when a female character happens to be looking at him through a slightly open door. This was so obvious a gender swap of how males and females react, that it was hard not to laugh. The male character realizes he is being watched, and *literally* crosses his arms over his bare chest like he's being spied on and doesn't know what to do. Any heterosexual teen male his age would be thinking something far different than covering himself. There are more scenes like this, where there are some 'girl boss' moments, and all the males are almost incapable of doing anything. *With that said, I will admit that this is balanced better here than other shows, where the males never are redeemed at all.* Even when Aang fights in a battle in the form of a former Avatar, I was thinking, "Here we go," because they chose a female, and not the one normally seen in the cartoon (Roku). The end of the sequence, though, *does show Aang materialize* in the place of the other Avatar, in other words- it was Aang calling on that person's power. The story writers could have just left this as a 'girl boss' moment, however they did show it was Aang. Those dialogue moments are the hardest parts to get over, and as someone else said, their almost teen kids were bored. I found myself once or twice skipping forward and didn't lose anything in terms of where the story was- because it was all being told to the audience. This is really why I can't give this higher, but I still recommend at least the first few episodes if you like the animated version (for the visuals). Before I read any reviews, and had no expectations- I watched two episodes, with one instance of skipping forward, however I was enjoying most of the show. I still realized those dialogue moments and the other moments I spoke of, and they pulled me from the story. *If you lower your expectations just a bit though, you can watch it and enjoy it for what it is.* Let's hope in a second season they get a bit better.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024 TV Series) Season 1 In this live-action adaptation of the animated series with the same title, we follow Aang, the Avatar tasked with preserving balance between the mortal and spirit realms. His quest for peace involves thwarting the sinister schemes of the Fire Nation. This adaptation endeavors to capture the essence of the animated series while introducing fresh elements and narratives, although achieving perfect balance isn't always attainable. On a positive note, this adaptation dazzles with breathtaking visuals and effects, showcasing a visually stunning world. The fight scenes are meticulously crafted, and although not always showcasing the diverse fighting styles of the animated series, the choreography, and presentation remain commendable. Change is not always accepted, especially when not done well or not being grounded in logical reasoning, and this is probably the biggest problem with this adaptation. The story told here has been reworked. New materials have been added; if stories aren't merged, they're imagined differently, and sometimes some storylines are tossed out. The most egregious is when the new storylines aren't followed through and forgotten. Some of the new materials here are good, for example, the backstory given to Zuko's character, but most will have audiences griping. Another element that sticks out is the portrayal of some characters. Katara here is stripped entirely of the essence she had in the animated series, and calling her a caricature seems like praise. While it's refreshing to see Azula introduced early on, her ruthless and cunning demeanor doesn't fully translate. Zuko's character, on the other hand, receives the most authentic portrayal, capturing all the qualities that made him beloved, and perhaps even enhancing them. There are other minor flaws to note. The choice of wigs for certain characters and how they're installed is poor. Dialogue is poor and sometimes infused with overdrawn expositions. Another gripe here is that it seems like fun has been **** out of this adaptation, the characters hurry from location to location and ultimately leave comedy on the chopping block. In conclusion, while it may fall short of the masterpiece that is the animated series and evoke constant comparisons, this adaptation represents a positive step forward following the forgettable movie that preceded it. 6/10

Bloated with exposition and joyless direction, Avatar: The Last Airbender might be a significant upgrade in the filmmaking department, but its underdeveloped characters and uneven pacing won’t save it from making some of the same mistakes.

I hate to say it, but my kids, 9 and 12, who watched the animated series, disliked the Netflix series. My daughter, 12, laughed hard watching the original series. Watching the new series with her was instead an enormous disappointment. She complained about how unfunny the first episode was, especially Sokka and Katara, and asked multiple times to turn it off which we eventually did, not even finishing the episode. Not cool. Not funny. Not for kids. And it is certainly missing the magic of the original series.

Baffling. Character writing was a step backwards for nearly every character. They beefed up the visual maturity, while watering down the emotional maturity of a Nickelodeon cartoon. It sure looks pretty but what's the point if they diminished the story and delivered it with boring exposition. It's just sad. The actors did the best they could with the script they had, thank you for your performances.

The writing is flat and uninteresting, the acting performance is mid at best. The CGI, the action and seeing the different settings really hard carry the series. However, I also felt like the characters were constantly moving from one place to another, meaning details of different regions and places seem unexplored.

7.5. True to the originals, meaning no injected DEI or ESG virtue signaling nonsense. Which is probably why the "pros" are raging about it. Some predictable cheesy parts but Avatar was orginally marketed towards kids and teens.

I enjoyed it from the beginning until the end :) I watched the original, it's a classic - and THIS is a decent legacy in my opinion. Story in live action does not have to be the same as in the original unless diversities are complementing the plot's flow. And small changes here and there are doing only better here. So I'll wait the second season, I'm really looking into seeing Toph and Zuko's redemption...

Way better than it needed to be or was expected to be. Pro critics mention catch most of the strengths and weaknesses. Two new points I can add: 1) Compare this to Wonka (2024) film. Where Wonka is ONLY for kids age 3-9 and their families, Avatar is for all ages. What makes this possible is the solid theme of internal balance expressed outwardly as a journey to balance four outer elements. The recurring topics of meditation and personal dedication, self-honesty and humility needed to excel at martial arts, for both genders, are timeless themes for all ages. 2) No one mentions how good these scripts are. Netflix TV series are a mixed bag. Not many of them manage to consistently use a 50 minute canvas with such art and intelligence, using surprise, quiet moments and character development to hold our interest. A master class in writing 50 minute TV series episodes. Everything firing on all cylinders here.

Some rough patches, especially at the beginning but still present to a large degree for Aang's character throughout, with acting, dialogue, re-mixing of plot from the animated series, plot hand-holding, and dark/grittiness for their own sake. That said, as a fan of the original, while there were some misses here, the show itself was on a whole entertaining and the fire nation plot and character arcs were generally fantastic. Overall, there were some stumbles, but this is a worthwhile watch for fans new and old, and I can only hope another season is green-lit so the show runners and actors get to take their experience and build on it.

Avatar is a mix product. The story is changed from the anime version. It certainly lack the humour side of things. It's not entirely bad tho, but there is way too much exposition dialogues, which makes for some boring moments in any episodes. The actors are average. Many of them are young, so that shows up. Forgivable in a sens. The adult are usually Asian veterans. That makes things a bit more solid. The CGI is pretty decent all around for a TV show. The actions is good also. Good fights choreographs. The music is on point, and sounds are well done for each elements. I give it 65%. I think the series will get better in terms of acting in the next season. I am more worry about all the over explaining and weak dialogues.

Actually it is the best adventure series I have seen in the past few years. Fantastic characters and storyline and the actors did an amazing job. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Kiawentiio Tarbell are great in their role as Genera Iroh and Katara. I cannot understand the downvoters. No reason to dislike this adaptation. Yes, its the same as the anime series but different on many ways. It's typically the live-action series that you have to watch with the eyes of an anime viewer or you won't understand why it's amazing.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024) is certainly an engaging experience, albeit falling short of the brilliance of its predecessor. While not surpassing the original, the film offers commendable entertainment value. The visuals stand out as a remarkable aspect, showcasing unparalleled craftsmanship. Notably, Prince Zuko emerges as the standout character, displaying a profound character arc that resonates with the original series. The actor's performance in portraying Zuko is particularly noteworthy, standing out as unparalleled.Regrettably, the depth of character found in Prince Zuko is not consistently mirrored in the other main characters, leaving them somewhat lacking in comparison to both the original series and the highlighted character. Despite this, the overall experience remains entertaining and enjoyable. I would, however, strongly recommend the original series over this adaptation. My assessment would be a rating of 6.5/10.
