The show was amazing with its visuals and **** show is created by same people who worked on dark on Netflix with it would have gotten a second season.

Приветствую. Начал смотреть сериал. Снят хорошо. Вроде бы идея сюжета интересная, затягивающая и интригующая. Но нетфликс как всегда не может без повестки. Если убрать все сцены повестки - сериал смотрится довльно не плохо. Я крайне плохо отношусь к повестке и потому ставлю сответствующую оцнеку. Если нетфлик хочет долбиться в дубпло, пусть это делает без публичности!!!

Really quite wild that a high quality show like this gets cancelled while Sex Education season 4 is made.

Серіал як на перший погляд здається прохідним серіальчиком про привидів на кораблі, виявився, як на мою думку - кращою екранізацією Убік на сьогоднішній день. З чудовою музикою, дуже естетично гарним, з гарним сіджіай і взагалі... як на мене серіал року, мінімум

Pretty cool - awesome twist at the end. It becomes somewhat repetitive and almost...silly about 3/4ths through. After trying to watch all of dark, though - I feel like this would have petered out about halfway through the 2nd season had it been made. Dark became unwatchable in the 3rd season.

1899 surprises over time. The biggest mistake is not giving time to the series and dropping it after watching the first episodes. 1899 is a true smart Sci-Fi. That Sci-Fi, which is almost gone. First of all, you should not expect from the series what Dark once gave. These are completely different series that give different emotions. 1899 is when you watch 5 hour-long movie and do not understand what is happening and consider yourself an idiot. These are the very emotions that the right Sci-Fi should give.

Unlike Dark, whose great adventure we were allowed to know in all its magnitude, we were only presented with a third of the story of 1899. The creators of Dark assure you that the time invested will be rewarded, each of the 8 episodes of the series keeps you interested in what they are telling you and the ending solves the "main" mystery of the season.

Great show. The cast is amazing, the atmosphere is magnificent, we feel the suspense, the stress of the unknown. Rich in emotions, captivating story. It clearly needs another season, still many other aspects to discover. (Unfortunately)

great show, cast, story, plots, twists, mystery, wtf-moments (especially in the end). mystery as it should be! looking forward to the next 2 announced seasons and finally a closed story! equal good as Dark in a different way.

This series torments you throughout the entire viewing experience. You do not understand what is happening until the very last moment. And given that the next season was canceled, you will never know.

Drama upon drama, mystery after mystery, constant setups and no pay off. This is one of those shows that's filled with half baked ideas and ends up going nowhere.

In the grand tradition of Lost, an endless maze of setups with no payoffs anywhere in sight.

It has the plot similar to Matrix, but with a low budget. Tiene el Argumento similar a Matrix pero con bajo presupuesto

Entertaining, but not mind-blowing. I'll watch Season 2. I enjoy listening to foreign languages, and the mystery of what's going on is ok. I don't know why characters insist on talking at each other for so long when they know the other person doesn't even speak the same language. :-D

I am pretty sure the ideas of this show came by means of drawing them from a hat and then the writers had to glue it all together.

1899's charm and intrigue slowly fades away after you realise the uselessness of the over dragged sequences. Many 1 hour episodes could be cut to 10 minutes scenes, and with too many complex characters, the show fails to create an orchestra of mystery and interconnectedness, which I was hoping for.

I couldn't have expected mora from the creators of Dark. I really love it. And, as with Dark, I am already thinking on watching it again to grasps details I missed in the first run. Fantastic job

I really didn't enjoy this at all. The story is not what you thought it was going to be. Lots of really dumb mystery stuff added in which may seem interesting but comes out to nothing in the end. Felt like a massive waste of time.

I wish this is a Cthulhu show... I enjoyed the setup in the first few episodes very much but as I got more and more answers, I didn't like where the show was going. It's like getting more and more dilute as it leaned harder into scifi mystery. And the revelation made some of the early scenes, especially some with some characters' actions and silence inexplicable... The set and costumes are excellent... The music, hit or miss with me.

After allowing this series to sit with me for a bit, I have to give the creators of Dark a solid 8 for this first season. Expectations were high given that Dark is my benchmark in many ways. 1899 is incredibly slow going in and I fear most will find the first 3-4 episodes a real grind and give up if they aren’t interested in dialogue heavy character building and story set up. I was prepared for this so had no problem with it. I found the character arcs intriguing and the story twisted and compelling enough to keep me onboard. The show really hits its stride after episode 4 as the pace picks up and events start taking dramatic turns. The story is convoluted enough to keep you on your toes. If you’re the person who likes to talk during a show you’ll get lost pretty easily. 1899 demands your full attention and pays off if you give it. My criticisms would be the opening titles. The edits are extremely fast which doesn’t sit right. Maybe that is the intention. The final moments of the last episode were a little predictable but the set up for a season two is good. The sound track deserves a mention as it is great with the return of Ben Frost who composed for Dark. Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this slow burn Sci-Fi but can certainly understand how the pacing and plot may put some people off.

If you like watching characters running aimlessly around for hours this is for you.

I tried to temper my expectations because I love Dark but this show misses the mark ever so slightly. It's something that's hard to put your finger on but I reckon it's just that everything is slightly off. The mystery box story telling gets annoying very quickly. With Dark mysteries abound however there's always something engaging going on but not so in 1899. Also, and this is my biggest issue, no one is particularly likable. Writers are forgetting this aspect of story telling. If no one is likable then no one cares what happens to them. The female lead in particular gives the audience no reason whatsoever to sympathize with her. I'm hopeful for the second season however recommending a show based on an unaired season would be pretty silly wouldn't it. I know it's Marvel's bread and butter (you just HAVE to see the end credits scene) but it's a dumb practice that I won't partake in.

Yes, it's from the makers of Dark. A fact that only amplifies how terribly soporific and hugely disappointing this has been. Stretched overly thin with repetitious dialogue and over-extended scenes to attempt to cover up an utterly incomprehensible story capped with a cheap, unearned 'twist'. A waste of some fine craft in cinematography and FX. Season 2. I wouldn't be surprised but I won't waste my time on this again.

I really like mystery, thrillers and horror films. But this one is just a neverending mess. Boring as it is senseless.

I really thought 1899 was going to be just some regular period drama like a titanic, finishing with the typical ending, but was something completely different! Just remember one thing, don't let the slow start fool you. With every episode, more details are added to put together the puzzle and you're left asking yourself questions and rooting for your favorite characters find out the answers as quick as possible! They spends a lot of time exposing the backstory of the major characters. At first one thinks there is no connection, but through their "dreams" or is it their "reality", we began to see how each share a connection which brought them together on this voyage. The cinematography and direction have been on point. The music in first few episodes where amazing, so appropriate to dark atmosphere, fear and curiosity. I was mostly amazed by the diversity of the cast. The multicultural aspect led to a more authentic representation of life aboard an immigrant ship at the turn of the last century. I hope to see a season 2 because the cast, producers and directors have really outdone yourselves.

Starts off well but becomes boring really fast towards the end. They need to work a lot more on the pacing since I could easily argue for the cutting of a whole 2 episodes for lack of content. The language barrier is interesting. The justification for it is unclear and I hope they don't keep it going forward. While I do appreciate a nod towards the local language watching an entire series, where it switches from english, spanish, french, german, mandarin, and a few more, becomes tiresome faster than you would expect. While it's by no means a must see it's definitely entertaining enough to warrant a try. Hoping the second season is more polished.

Another example of bad writing and sloppy mysteries. Throw a bunch of puzzle pieces but never bother to actually check if they fit. This is a great example which follows the Lost/OA/Dark dogma. Eventually end up closing the whole series with nonsensical elements that sound cool and look cool, but once thoroughly checked, fail to connect the dots and provide a satisfying resolution and well-thought storyline. Skip it, or hate watch it, but don't for once think you will be satisfied with how this series will eventually one day end. Each season will just throw it further into the Lost abyss.

Honestly, the story seemed like a jumbled mess of imagery and random plots that didn't mesh together into a cohesive story. When the authors try to convey some idea, all their characters start talking about it, which looks strange. In some scenes, it was clear from the first seconds what all this meant because "the message" was woven into the plot, and from the first words, it was obvious how the scene would end. When you remove the music from a very simple scene, it becomes an empty, boring production. It's just a collection of clichés and boring characters. Bad script. Slow and boring. Cold characters. Nothing like Dark. Woke.

Fascinating ! Director script couple baron boodar & jantje friese strikes again with another engrossing mystery series. You must have some patience to go through the early episodes,once you reach the middle phase ,the effect will start kick ok you, from then excitement and curiosity will drive you ! brilliant screenplay and stunning visuals with good performances and absorbing mystery awaiting ! It is available on Netflix , hopefully it will get another season, because the ending is the beginning of something more crazier

Série incroyable, qui n'en est qu'à son commencement. Les rageux (notamment brésiliens) feraient mieux de s'intéresser à la vérité plutôt qu'au scandale, ça leur permettrait d'éviter de passer pour des guignols.

Phenomenal acting, exquisite cinematography, stunning visuals, and great methodical pacing. Captivating in a refreshing way that you don’t see very often. The writing was overall really interesting with intricate exposes of different cultures. there are a few scenes where they could have written a bit differently to give them more substance and weight. For instance, the episode “the ship”felt like it needed something more going on to offset the main part of the plot. Overall, a kickass series so far, Im yearning for more!

For those who have already experienced what the creators of this show did in DARK, I can only tell you that you already know what to expect. For those who haven't, keep in mind that mystery is key here, so if you're more into explanations and a more direct rhythm, I doubt you'll get along with this story. It's a bit slow and doesn't start to pick up pace until its third episode, but if you stay tuned, the journey is very rewarding.

Stunningly shot, with another great score from Ben Frost, this slow burner is worth sticking with. I only wish we had more series like this, where the writers are willing to take chances and develop stories in a non linear way.

Do NOT listen to the negative reviews. Those people does not understand the genious writing of this masterpiece. People are talking a lot about a slow start. It does indeed have that, but it was kinda needed to really set up the characters of the show.

The guy with the dark, soy sauce colored hair is particularly hard to love.

There are a ton of unexpected plot twists and unanswered questions. It seems like an unanswerable mystery. Although the later episodes became better, the earlier ones were a little boring. Furthermore, the acting is excellent. Gets a 10 rating from me.

This reminds me of Lost, but the dialogue is worse (you will understand why as soon as you watch it). This prevents the characters really bonding with each other and therefore leaves you feeling a bit detached from them. I watched it right through to the end. The overall premise had potential, but they made a royal mess of it. The pace and plot kept stuttering, and they never quite found their footing. As a result, it's boring, filled with drivel, but is remarkable as an insomnia cure (true story; I fell asleep on three different episodes). Give this one a miss, it pales in comparison with Dark (heh).

This show has been compared with "Lost" (2004), and for good reason. If you enjoy being teased with one "mystery box" after another only to experience a completely underwhelming season climax that explains absolutely nothing and really does nothing apart from forcing you to watch another season -- still not greenlit at time of writing by Netflix by the way -- and adding a new gigantic mystery box that all the other boxes fit in, then this show is for you. If this makes you feel like you wasted several hours on a story that gave you nothing apart from feeling infantilized, annoyed and duped, then this show is not for you. If I had to say something forgiving about this series, there are a lot of great performances, and the special effects are good, but in terms of writing and pacing this whole season is a train wreck. Netflix, please stop this madness before we end up with six seasons and a movie.

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar never disappoint. Everything about this show is brilliant. The cast is stunning, not to mention the beautiful cinematography and amazing directing.
