Dune: Part Two7

Ratings by category: Visuals: 9/10
Sound/Music: 10/10
World building: 7/10
Acting: 7/10

Emotional impact: 4/10 Pros: Incredible visuals/cinematography at times. Fantastic sound design and music (especially for Dolby cinema) with sub bass and complex synths religiously thundering at you in ways you didn't think were possible. Decent world building. Cons: Terrible pacing. Mediocre dialogue. C tier romantic chemistry. Unconvincing acting. Fast forwarding through important content and focusing on long shots that seem to drag on forever. Way too many pans to characters faces. No diversity in the color palette other than a few really decent scenes that take place outside of Arrakis (one can only take so much of the color yellow). Comically bad sword fights and fight choreography. Fast forwarded action sequences. Moments where the Harkonnens do comically poor C-tier comic book villain things. Miniscule deviations from the book for no reason. Certain scenes that almost feel copy pasted from one to the next ( camera pans of faces, desert landscapes, "action") . Confusing comically bad dialogue. Endlessly long wide camera pans of the desert (during day time) just like in the first movie. Conclusion: Go to see it for the visual and auditory spectacle. Don't expect to be captivated by the story or the action. At times i was massively bored, other times i was over stimulated. sidenotes: Somehow Dennis Villeneuve managed to make the movie feel far too serious while simultaneously neglecting certain aspects so much so as to almost make them comically bad (combat/villains/action/dialogue). I would describe this movie as an experiential rollercoaster ride without much substance and emotional complexity to back it up. Watching the movie felt endlessly slow at times while somehow also skipping beats and being in "fast forward" mode the entire time. The movie never allowed certain impactful moments room to breathe while giving time to absolutely mundane and unimportant sequences that didn't contribute much in the way of emotional impact. Even though I found elements of this movie to be particularly bad and underdeveloped I did absolutely enjoy some of unique visual/auditory sequences while watching it Dolby cinema. Overall, I think it's worth a single viewing. I can't see myself yearning to watch it again for quite some time. 6.5/10.

Crimes of the Future3

Sub par nonsensical meandering story with sub par direction. Disappointed in Cronenberg, this movie feels like it started off as a short concept film that was painfully transformed into a feature but without the actual mental gymnastics and labor to do so to execute anything decent. Pretty repulsive at times to borderline unwatchable at others. Horrible and pointless with broken themes and disjointed continuity and flow.

The concepts and plot in the movie while interesting on paper, are explored and executed in exceptionally uninteresting ways other than in a few scenes. The characters are very poorly written and the direction in this movie is almost zero. The writers/producers/directors didn't seem like they wanted to even try. The only people who gave it their all were the people working on visuals and cinematography where the movie truly shines. In all other ways other than visual and conceptual, this movie is a giant flopapotatmus. Wasted cast and talent on the poor writing and direction. Also, Every time someone was firing a gun it felt really poorly executed. VFX: 8
Cinematography: 8
Action: 6
World building: 6
Acting: 5 (probably this remarkably bad due to the poor direction and writing)
Direction: 2
Writing: Not effective unit (2)
Pacing: sometimes an 7, sometimes a 3 => 5
Sci Fi: 6
Overall it gets a solid: "you should see the other guy" outta 10.

Plot/Story: 5/10 very little happening, with very little pay off at the end. Acting: 6/10 main lead did an alright job, with the supporting role doing okay as well. However nothing interesting or extraordinary.
Cinematography/FX: 7/10 okay but nothing great. A few decent scenes, and interesting set design as well as graphics design for the set. Not much in terms of broad composition though.
Overall, an okay movie that left me wanting more. Don't think they fully explored the secondary character enough to make sense of what happend. Didn't really have a pay off at the end that made sense. Fairly shallow at times, and long winded in terms of direction. 6/10

Solo: A Star Wars Story8

8/10. A solid star wars movie that doesn't follow the cliche tropes that the 'recent' movies have followed. It plays out some new and familiar characters in ways that put them in a fresh light.... The movie takes you to many intriguing and well displayed places in the starwars universe, and builds the world without feeling boring or trite like *cough cough* some other star wars movies. The characters are written a tad bit off from the originals, but in such a way as to still do them justice as they are younger and possibly have a slightly different personality that isn't as chizeled as in the original trilogy (which i quite liked). Great CGI, great cinematography, great direction, and overall tremendous improvement in terms of general viewing experience. I finally didn't find myself sighing after every scene, nor did i get bored, or feel underwhelmed by the execution of the acting. I would watch this movie over any of the core star wars movies in the recent trilogy. I really don't see why half the people don't like it.... The robot was a tad bit out their..... but honestly.... It wasn't nearly as bad as people are making it out to be... It's just a slightly more eccentric character than C3PO.... Really don't understand the hate... people just want to hate on everything starwars... which i completely understand... but i was thoroughly surprised to find that the movie was above my expectations.

Pros: Some decent action, and at times some decent acting (although in this movie i thought it was over-dramatized, and not very genuine at times) Cons: Lack of genuineness, originality, subtlety. Alot of scenes were rushed, cliche, or just lacked a subtlety of acting that you'd expect of this movie. whoever wrote the script really needs to step their game up because most of the time i was cringing relatively hard especially during a certain 'time killing' scene around the middle of the movie which had me gasping and closing my eyes at how much they could have nixed or written better. If I had the opportunity to go back and time and unsee this movie, i'd probably take it.
