LE는 그런 면에 사기를 친 것이다. 부작용이 뻔한 성형수술을 시술한 것과 다르지 않다.3. 토니 스타크처럼 반짝반짝 빛나는 놈팽이같은 삶을 영위하던 데이빗에게 교통사고는 외형의 저주를 내렸다. 더 이상 반짝이지 못하게 된 그는 미쳐버렸고 사랑할 수 있을 거라 믿었던 여자에게도 정상적으로 다가갈 수가 없다. 갖은 편집증적인 상상으로 결국 그는 자살을 택한다. 그러한 그의 한을 달래어주듯 그의 자각몽은 아름다움이 가득하다. 술에 취해 더러운 길바닥에 쓰러져 잠들고 깨어난 순간 비친 햇살은 아주 포근했다. 처음 세상을 맞는 아기처럼 그에게 따뜻한 햇살이었을 것 같다. 꿈의 여인 소피아에게 초대받고 단 하나 뿐인 친구에게도 인정받는다. 그러나 항상 음모에 휩싸여있다는 불안감에서 벗어나지 못하는데, 실제 그가 자살하기 전 회사에서 입지를 다진 이력이 있다는 점이 웃기다. 이겨내고 싶었던 사실에 달려드는 와중에도 현실의 벽을 여전히 깨지 못하는 것. 사람의 마음 속에 깊이 자리한 압박감은 행복이 꽃피려 치면 진저리를 내며 공격해온다.4. 영화는 LE라는 생명연장 냉동 정신지배 기술을 통해 이를 설명하지만 사실 그렇게 SF 스러운 기술로 멀리갈 필요까지도 없다. 우리 스스로의 머릿속을 들여다보기만 해도 쉽게 알 수 있는 사실들이다. 우리는 갖은 장애로 멍든 뇌를 가지고 살아간다. 요리죠리 피해 살아간다고 생각하지만 암덩이처럼 상처는 사라져주지 않는다. 생각의 동물 인간은 만물의 영장이지만 생각할 수 있다는 것이 저주라고 누군가 했던 말이 떠오르기도 했다.5. 생각하는 동물이라는 것은 가장 좋은 무기인 동시에 저주이다. 양날의 칼과 같은 정신에 대한 이야기를 영화는 긴장감있게 잘 보여주었던 것 같다.6. 번쩍이는 삶에서 나락으로, 그리고 꿈 속으로 달아나는 남자의 이야기 속에는 음모, 배신, 살인 등의 굴곡과 소피아와의 행복한 연애를 통한 햇살이 함께 들어있다. 정신을 지배하는 자는 우리 스스로이기 때문에 우리는 자의에 의해 행복할 수도 비참할 수도 있다.7. 냉동에서 깨어난 150년 후의 데이빗은 행복할까? 얼굴을 고치고 몸도 고치고 정신을 마저 고친다 하여도 그는 다시 불행해질 것 같다. 정신이란 그만큼 이해안가도록 강한 것이니까.

The main character is vile, spoiled and selfish, seduces the girl his friend loves, he is obsessed with the girl and his face, but everything is not as simple as it seems, the ending is unexpected, and can be interpreted in different ways. The meaning of the film for me is that it is worth leaving the fantasy, no matter how sweet it is, and living in the real world

Seems like the tipping point where Cruise transitioned fully to blockbusters only from here on. The story is not really working here for me. I had no clue that the Tom Cruise laughing in bed Top Gun maverick sex scene had a prequel!?

One of the best films of all time. It is creative, insightful, and poignant. Tom Cruise is excellent in the role, too. I have watched it multiple times. There is no other movie even remotely similar to it. How others do not like this film is beyond me.

Some remakes are worse, I'm looking at you Old Boy, but this is still a bad remake **** foreign film. The film worked originally because of it's great story and unique twists. The Hollywood remake is predictably expanded upon in all the wrong ways, and feels more like a product than art. Because of the inventiveness of the original, this remake is still pretty good. But, they made it worse due to some of the bad writing and directing, which is not cool, man!

For me the great soundtrack and cast are tainted by the convoluted plot and at time hyperactive edits. Despite this, it was a fascinating watch and at times quite entertaining. I would've marked it higher if not for the pointless explanation at the **** the psychedelic mystery genre it does a decent job falling just below decent.

Está demasiado subestimada y eso es algo lamentable; tiene suspenso, drama y la actuación de Tom Cruise es excelente; es muy recomendable.

Exceptional. No movie has ever played with my emotions more than this movie or any movie has or will again. Wow.

Apesar de um remake, tem fôlego por um elenco mais famoso e melhores performances, além de um final um pouco mais interessante.

It has a good soundtrack? I really respect what “Vanilla Sky” is trying to do, weaving a complicated narrative, but it just doesn't gel. Perhaps a different editor could have built a more enjoyable experience out of the pieces. Even though I am a huge fan of Tom Cruise movies, he is just too "Tom Cruisie" in this one. I give it a C, if you've already seen the best, but you insist on watching a movie, try this one out.

After watching it the second time recently I have come to realize that this movie was ahead of its time. Science fiction was at the point where the randomness was an accepted thing. Of course the original is really the landmark movie, but overall this is a great movie and like the source material it has inspired many great movies, books and television shows I love now.

Extremely beautiful film! Seriously one of the best films I have ever seen! This is an original story, with a fantastic cast, and an even better sound track. This is a must see.

Vanilla Sky is a profound mindbender. The movie is engaging with creative visuals and a convoluted screenplay that will surprise & delight you.

A poignant classic. Perhaps not as intelligent as it wants to be but certainly far cleverer than it is given credit for. Without a doubt it is simultaneously my favourite film - and the one I am most tentative about admitting I enjoy. Tom Cruise before Scientology ripped the soul out of his movies.

Je ne l'avais pas revu depuis un bout de temps et le souvenir que j'en avais demeurait très confus... et je comprends au revionnage pourquoi : le film est en effet très confus et très bordélique. Evidemment, la fin comme un deus ex machina vient tout éclairer et tout expliquer mais continue de laisser totalement incrédule. Oui, on nous prend pour des jambons là-dedans... Et puis il y a Tom Croute : il faut se le taper Tommy, lui et ses gesticulations pour faire l'acteur, gueule cassée ou pas. Il a tout de même des moments presque convaincants -ou moins à la masse- quand il porte le masque. Le voilà donc qui se trompe de jambonneuse entre la blonde et la brune, qui a survécu, qui n'a pas survécu, la tronche droite ou la tronche de travers... On l'imaginerait mieux dans le rôle de l'éléphant ("je ne suis pas un animal !!") qu'a nous jouer ainsi les états d'âmes superficiels d'un fils à papa millionnaire sur fond de petites chansons affreuses (une espèce de pop commerciale niaise et très con). Et puis le film est extrêmement lent et ne se réveille qu'à la fin... Bien sûr, on pense à Ubik de Philip K. **** et on relirait bien le livre encore une fois : ça nous changerait très agréablement de ce ciel vanille aussi indigeste qu'un pudding périmé.

With great actors and unforgettable moments. A pesar de los comentarios de la prensa, creo que sus virtudes superan a los defectos que pueda tener como creación. Yo vi tanto la versión española como esta, y prefiero esta siempre. La cutrez de Almenábar y el vestuario, y un a mi gusto nada creíble Noriega la lastraban demasiado. Vanilla Sky no estaba para galardones de la academia, pero deja mucho en la memoria del espectador.

Just ignore the "Critic Reviews", they cant be Serious Professionals. Its a much more polished version of "abre los ojos" and Eduardo Noriega did a HORRIBLE work. Thanks Vanilla Sky, to transform this history into a masterpiece.

For a movie that is 13 years old now and is buried in the past, this is truly a great movie for those that like this kind of film. It really isn't meant for everyone and I can understand where the displeasure from critics and users alike. However, if you like science fiction thrillers, romance thrillers or mind-bending movies, this movie is for you. It's similar to the likes of Jacobs Ladder to put it in perspective. I'd at least say watch it through once and see what you think. Personally, I think critics were too harsh on this film and that follow the users score more since the users seem to actually understand this film more. I loved this movie and I hope if you watch it that you will too!

Vanilla Sky is, fundamentally, a movie about lucid dreaming. And there is something about it that only lucid dreamers will recognize. Sadly, it's a bit downhill from there. While Vanilla Sky is a solid effort, it's unfortunately short of genius. The very project is a bit curious. Is Cameron Crowe, the permanent teenager responsible for perfectly good yet light-as-a-feather comedies like Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, up to the challenge of remaking a Spanish psychodrama? Crowe goes through the motions, and from time to time he proves that he can handle heavier material, but Vanilla Sky is too murky to be much more than a holiday distraction far from the cult classic that the original Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) has become. However... Cameron Crowe's DVD commentary track is one of the best I've heard. While he's overly proud of the middling achievement, he's honest about the tepid reaction from test audiences, and he does provide a little extra context for the various interpretations of the movie. (Also of note, this is the first commentary I've heard with a musical score: someone (Crowe's wife, Nancy Wilson) playing acoustic guitar. Crowe also phones up his stars during the recording... bizarre.) Unfortunately, none of this can make Penélope Cruz a good actress. An interview with songwriter Paul McCartney, two featurettes, and assorted trailers round out the disc. Vanilla Sky has moments of brilliance and bears a certain style, but the movie is neither simple enough for sheer popcorn-thriller fun nor complex enough for true psychodrama buffs. It lies somewhere in a middle ground, and anyone that tells you different... needs to open his eyes.

There is some psychological pressure along the movie, but the story do not seem natural and honestly it is a bit boring in the middle and the ending from my point of view is the thing called deus ex machina, it does not look logical. Overall a decent movie.

You either understand this film or you **** that alone would base the difference between a positive or negative review. This film is indeed a glorious mess........that's what it intends to be and yet, in the final few moments of the film, it bunches up into something that somehow works. In the end, the story hits you in the gut and calls into question every character that you've grown accustomed to throughout the duration, and it asks you to let it all go. So devastating but so courageous and raw. Performances all around are top-notch, including Diaz, who does some of her best work here.

I disagree with many 'reviewers' and feel that this version is a much more polished movie than the original spanish movie. The soundtrack is amazing and the suspense is real. An amazing achievement by Crowe.

A well put together and interesting movie. Honestly, it is insane that it has such a low critic score. If you like movies that keep you guessing like Fight Club or Eternal Sunshine, then you will enjoy this movie. It's confusing because it's meant to be and it triumphs in being entertaining until the end reveal. And on a second viewing, everything makes sense and is one cohesive picture. As others point out, there are many Fantasy vs. Reality films out there, many with more shocking "twists", but Vanilla Sky is a gripping movie in it's own right and me and my friends definitely enjoyed watching it even now, a decade after it's original release.

Wow. A 45% from critics? This just shows how little credence you should pay to professional opinions on works of art. This movie floored me and stuck with me for years. To come here and see it scored below dreck like Doctor Dolittle and Zombie Strippers is an absolute insult. If you're a fan of high concept science fiction and have at least a triple digit IQ, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie and come to your own conclusions. Criminally underrated.
