So many characters do not fit the setting at all, and their presence feels ridiculously forced. This breaks immersion and detracts from the experience.

Based on the famous tabletop role-playing game, "Honor among thieves" is the D&D reboot we all waited for. And even if it's only a B-movie, at least, Hasbro and Paramount took a chance to make it right. Visually convincing, with solid VFX and actors performances, the movie delivers a mix of adventure and comedy, with enough fantasy lore to offer a nice piece of entertainment.

One of the best comedies I have watched in recent years. The story is completely linear with no real twists or turns, and as an action movie, the actual combat is relatively small. The VFX is good but nothing groundbreaking. However, where this film truly shines is its dark comedy—it is absolutely brilliant. Dungeons & Dragons is not a serious fairy tale or the intense action-thriller the trailers made it out to be; it is a pure, hilarious comedy from start to finish. The humor is sharp, self-aware, and incredibly entertaining. A great watch that completely subverted my expectations. Highly recommended.

I kept joking this is better than TLOTR, because that 25+ year old movie is still the benchmark for these types of movies. The movie was ok fine, but this one is for the small screen. No rush to watch it for sure. I think I actually preferred the other D&D film from 2000.

I am truly glad they finally made a big budget, enjoyable, and worth Dungeons & Dragons movie. The 2000 D&D movie is amazing, but in the opposite direction as this one. This one has a great cast, is produced well, and has an enjoyable story that ebbs and flows properly. The action and effects in this film are tons of fun, and it really holds true to a D&D tale.

It was fun to watch. Maybe not a masterpiece, but definitely entertaining. The fact that it’s set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe is definitely a plus.

Divertente, coinvolgente, sono andato al cinema con persone che non conoscono nulla di d&d e l’hanno trovato anch’esse un gran bel film. Finalmente un prodotto di qualità!

I don't know the board game that serves as inspiration, but the adaptation has its own identity, to have a safe distance from the shameful version of 2001, and without resembling other films of the genre. As entertainment it delivers very well and that should be enough.

Main male protagonist is a pushover Main female protagonist is a Karen Little kid is dim beyond belief Main antagonist is more likable and better in any way to the heroes both combined. The plan is to steal the kid so more stealing is necessary to raise the kid to a life of poverty. To live in poverty you need your wits about you and the kid have none off that.

A decent, fun movie that doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel, but features a collection of solid elements that mostly work cohesively. Chris Pine is arguably the standout performer, and probably the most memorable as well. The emotional elements rarely pack any tremendous punches, but what's on display is generally solid. Overall, a perfectly fine movie from a franchise that has historically offered cinematic mediocrity, thereby placing it far above its predecessors.

If you're a fan of games, especially RPG games, then this movie is for you. It's entertaining, has a good cast, and has a few hilarious scenes. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a fun Hollywood movie, so this is a breath of fresh air, I guess.I knew it would be a good movie when I watched the trailer back then, so I highly suggest watching it.

Like a good basement campaign with a group of well-suited friends, this latest attempt to translate the dungeon master’s guide to the silver screen is an effectively loose, witty time. Maybe it’s not a bombastic fantasy epic, nor an especially meaningful quest, but that’s not what those long, dark nights on a nearly-abandoned couch are all about, anyway. The best D&D games thrive on the rapport among teammates and the unanticipated detours from the charted path; two factors that Honor Among Thieves boasts in large quantities. To tell the truth, I almost wish there hadn’t been a big bad to yank us back to reality. Alas, this is Hollywood and Hollywood must hit certain landmarks in a reasonable amount of time, so the chase to right wrongs and escape a climactic action scene do take priority. And, predictably, they lack the quirky heart and soul of the more aloof, engaging team-building exercises that were so effectively mined a little while earlier. Most of the stars seem to agree, appearing every bit as disinterested as I felt. Maybe this would work better as a TV series, where the plot can sprawl and the pace can remain mellow. As a feature, it succeeds in translating the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy into the Forgotten Realms, but not the potent emotional beats. Decent popcorn fodder, with one or two really effective laughs, but not quite a franchise-starter.

What the fantasy genre was missing. The film looks impressive. Cool, diverse characters, humor, pictures, unusual plot, presentation. It's very nice that such things are coming out now.

(As someone that knows nothing about D&D) Firstly can someone that doesn't know anything about D&D watch this movie ? Most definitely. It probably helps knowing some facts to identify Easter eggs etc but doesn't affect the overall experience. It was a fun movie filled with a good balance of comedy, action, adventure, story telling, monsters, treasure hunting and magic. Nothing that we haven't seen before in fantasy adventure movies but this still did a pretty good job and all age groups should have a good time. The younger audience seemed to enjoy it a lot more but some scenes are a bit dark so if you have kids younger than 8 maybe skip the movie for now. The core cast where good, Chris Pine(Edgin) and Michelle Rodriguez(Holga) being the stand out characters. Sophia(Doric) and Justice(Simon) did well as supporting characters. Sophia seems more flat in her expressions but her abilities made up for it. It felt odd seeing Hugh Grant(Forge) in this movie but he did a good job. Regè-Jean(Xenk) was only around for a short while but makes for an interesting character. Daisy (Sofina) looked evil but we didn't get to see much of her actual acting ability. Her powers looked cool but she made for a weak villain in my opinion. Overall it was a good movie

Solid 7/10 movie, this was for old and new DnD fans alike, you really do not need to know anything about DnD at all to enjoy this, however if you do there was tons of references that certainly enhance the exsperiance, down to the sound effects being in many of the other DnD media. I would say that this was Fantasy first, comedy second, DnD third.

This movie gets an A for effort, its heart was in the right place, however I found this movie to be boring. The story was very predictable, but the characters lacked depth. There is nothing wrong with story-based movies, where the scenes happen just to move the plot along however, the dialog lacked any depth to keep you interested and it moved. The acting overall was good, a kudos goes out to Michelle Rodriguez for her portrayal as she really gave her character a level of depth I didn't think was capable of given the writing. The visuals were nice however, I think they could have given us a good score to help change the mood. I heard a lot of good things about this movie so perhaps my expectations were too high and yes we played D&D growing up and had Neverwinter Nights on my PC. This movie just wasn't it for me no matter how much I wanted it to be.

Fun and endearing, much like a D&D campaign ought to be. Nothing spectacular, but just another adventure in the realm of Faerûn. I suppose people that never played it anything related might think it's bad, with some story pivots and what not, but then again, that kinda how a campaign goes. Definitely not for everyone but I enjoyed it quite a lot.

While not transformative, this is a great time and very fun. Chris Pine leads a great cast and proves yet again that he's not only a charming leading man but quite funny. The special effects are very good and the frame is constantly full of treats for fans of D&D. While a good 10-15mins could be shaved off, this is well worth your time

It's a fun adventure, it's not perfect but its good. If you like DnD or just fantasy settings it's worth watching at least once. While I'd likely never sit down on my own to watch it a second time I'd watch a sequel when/if they made one.

Going into it, while I was certainly excited at the idea of a D&D movie, I was also hesitant. I was genuinely afraid the film would fail to be anything too special. And yet, this film manages to satisfy me. While still prescribing itself many of the usual, expected tropes, D&D manages to shake it up by leaning into a different genre- the heist movie. And man, oh man- does it work. The entire time while watching, I couldn’t help but laugh along as I watched the cast commit to the bit and frequently engage in the exact same shenanigans as parties I’ve DM’d for. But more than that, I was blown away by the equally investing on the fly decision making of those same characters, which always managed to feel organic for me. This whole film, above all else, felt genuine- it felt like a movie made for tabletop fans by people who had played them too.

A perfect woke movie, don't get me wrong, because it's not a suspense either, but the movie lacks a lot of sense as is usual in this type of Hollywood work, so it continually takes you out of the adventure quite a bit. Although the enthusiasm they have put into it is appreciated, it is not well narrated. In about 35 minutes they jump from one side of the work to the other to tell you as much as possible in a sloppy way, without any magic or mysteries of the D&D world. Unfortunately this is due to Wizards of the Coast who centralized the brand's content before Covid and where their scripts have lost enormous quality to transform into something marvel/woke style where inclusion predominates in the work they are going to tell you....this movie is its perfect example. Would I recommend it? Honestly no. This inclusion takes you out of the roles, such as the forced obligation that the elves have to be black or mixed race, when the sun elves are shiny skinned like in LOTR but Hollywood has the mental obligation to change that. On the other hand, seeing that all the guards are men and they are beaten by women that you can't quite believe their characterization... well, it's already obvious. Is it D&D? Well yes, the funny thing is that there are sessions in which you can be a clown, but in the mysterious and dark side of the universe it is similar to speed and bacon.

An alright action/ fantasy movie filled with endless missed opportunities. There were so many things that could have been done with the source material, and what we got was not as creative as an average game of D&D. The creature designs were rough, I could not believe the little cat baby animatronic was being shown on a big screen.

Dice rolled good for Honor Among Thieves! This film was pure adventure – laughs, spells, goblins galore! Sure, it wasn't Shakespeare, but it delivered exactly what it promised: a wild ride through D&D's fantastical world. The characters? Charismatic, each a quirky charm. The story? Fun, with twists and turns like a rogue's dagger. And the action? Glorious! Explosions, spells, magical beasts – my inner bard did a jig! More? Oh, absolutely! D&D's a treasure trove of tales, and this movie just scratched the surface. Bring on the sequel, I say! Let's roll again! ️

Well what an entertaining fantasy adventure film that turned out to be. I went into Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves not expecting much at all and was pleasantly surprised. A charming thief called Edgin (Chris Pine) teams up with an unlikely group, Holga (Michelle Rodriguez), Simon the wizard (Justice Smith) and Doric (Sophia Lillis) to dare take on an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic. Well in typical heist movie fashion, things don’t quite go according to plan when they come face to face with some pretty nasty people. An adaptation of the roleplaying game and a surprisingly good one at **** only has Dungeons & Dragons gone down well with both audiences and critics but it’s a genuinely entertaining adventure with lots of dungeons, lots of dragons and an all round fun movie. Good for all the family. As for how faithful this adaptation of the board game is, I can’t say for sure, I can only hope fans of the game enjoyed it as much as I did. If like me, your knowledge of D&D comes from Stranger Things don’t let that stop you, prior knowledge of the game is not necessary to enjoy this movie so there’s no excuse. The story itself isn’t anything groundbreaking and it plays out the way you’d expect, and definitely keeps with the game theme. There’s lots of quests within quests, with the characters needing to break into this place but to do that they need this thing first but to get the thing to break into the place, they gotta go find this guy to get the thing to break into the place etc. etc. I’ll admit when it started I was worried I was going to hate the movie but it quickly won me over. It has lots of heart, it’s witty and good fun. Never knew I’d enjoy seeing an owl bear before but there ya go. In the fantasy genre you really can do anything. Pine and Rodriguez make a great combo. Interesting heroes with great chemistry that will have you fully invested in the story. Hugh Grant is chewing the scenery, playing very much a pantomime type villain that works very well in this bright and vibrant world. Game to movie adaptations don’t generally have a history of being very good, be it video game or board game. Yet directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have found the right combination of comedy, adventure and heart. I have to say I was almost turned off seeing Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves especially how hard they were going with the advertising, it was everywhere and reeked of desperation. But I’m glad I took a chance and if you haven’t seen it and are looking for something fun to enjoy in the cinema then be sure to check it out. Recommended for anyone looking for a good fantasy adventure movie.

This movie is a hard watch due to the dead acting and dialogue. The slide show plot advancements where CGI monsters or magic solutions emerge to the adventurers in peril is not too clever. There are good action and fx scenes but not enough to justify the runtime. It has some laughs. The character writing, delivery, and plot are bad. You’ll wish it was over halfway through.

This is a very entertaining romp, a bit like a heist film crossed with The Lord of the Rings. For anybody familiar with the D&D genre, lots will feel familiar. For those unwilling to actually indulge in fantasy role-playing games, this will at least give you a feel for the genre -- the over-the-top adventure and the campy humor. Worth watching!

The movie is a positive surprise. It is entertaining, has a lot of good humor, tons of fan service and enjoyable characters. Sadly it will be one of those movies that is really good but no one watched. Also I have seen the first D&D movie in cinema that was hilariously bad (but entertaining). This is an improvement by several levels. I bought the movie on DVD after hearing many people praised it. It was even better than I hoped for. The story starts with the bard Edgin and female barbarian Holga in a prison. They hope to be pardoned and telling the story how they got into trouble. However this is just the set up as they did not know that there was more behind it. The story fully works. All characters have their flaws, motivations and heroes journey. More movies need to do this. I liked them because I can relate to their struggles. Everyone has doubts, made decisions that backfire or dis-improves things by trying to fix them. There are also tons of lore, easter eggs and references. If you pay attention you even see the characters from the old D&D cartoon. The cast is near perfect and fits their roles. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodrigues, Sophia Lillis, Rege Jean Page, Justine Smith and all the others are excellent and have great chemistry. The bad guys are so enjoyable. I love to hate them. I should also praise the writers and directors. They made an awesome movie. Other than that I praise the humor and action scenes. Both are fully satisfying. The special effects are great too. They fit into the movie in a way that feels genuine. Overall I think I should give a 10/10. It might not be that good but it is a positive surprise and immense improvement. Also they made some positive example how to subvert expectation (In a way that I would applaud).

+ knows what it is Regé-Jean Page In the end a nice moment Regé-Jean Page the Paladin, surely the best idea of the film, he talks like a Paladin, he is boring like a Paladin, he is good and brilliant like a Paladin, so he ****, he is a success as a Paladin because that's how we like the stubborn. I admit that I was the only one laughing in the room at this dialogue: (I don't remember who): The son of a **** (the Paladin): So the evil would come from his mother Yes it makes me laugh Sophia Lillis the druid was fine too, the chase scene and the different transformations were nice. - Fight framing The fights The discrete or even almost non-existent soundtrack and forgettable
