The Super Mario Galaxy Movie8
Apr 3, 2026
A good sequel. It is entertaining, adds to the lore, characters and worldbuilding. By the way I have no idea why critics hate this movie. I will admit that it is not one of the best animated movies in history but for a sequel it is really good. They have good humour, tons of fan service and a story you can relate. I will try to avoid spoilers. It is set after the events of the first movie. Mario and Luigi have accustomed to the Mushroom kingdom and try to fix the everyday problems that occur. If you have seen the post credit scene of the first movie the character there is added to the mix. Meanwhile galaxy's away a new challenge is emerging. The story is entertaining, relatable and gives its characters the time to shine. All characters, old and new, feel real and create an immersive experience. I want to praise the writers and voice actors. The presentation is top notch. Everything looks amazing and the soundtrack is truly brilliant. For both there are tons of Easter eggs and I am sure I have not recognized all of them. Small warning. The post credit scene is a bit disturbing like a Mario makeover from a darker movie. However in total it was worth watching and enjoyable. I give an 8/10 and I am also sure it will break 1 billion at the box-office easily.

KPop Demon Hunters10
Oct 22, 2025
The movie has become a phenomenon. In short it beats easily everything Disney and Pixar had put out in years (Maybe except inside Out 2). The cast is amazing, the songs are rocking the charts and even the story is much deeper than I expected. The story is about the KPOP group Huntr/x who are on the top of popularity. Secretly to the world they are also demon hunters that protect mankind against demons. They come from a long line of demon hunters that recognized long ago that songs have powers to create a barrier that prevents demons to interfere in the human world. Because they are to strong for the demons to handle they start a different approach while the leader of Huntr/x has a secret she hides. I stop here to avoid spoilers. The story and characters are amazing. They won me over immediately and I was deeply invested into both. The songs are marvelous and that comes from a (mostly) I hate songs in animations guy. It is no wonder that there a sing along versions and they rock the charts. The visuals are beautiful but the style is not entirely my cup of tea but that is my problem. All of this together makes an incredibly enjoyable movie. If you analyze the motives and story you even get valuable lessons about friendship, acceptance and self discovery. Overall I say the hype is real and it is a must see movie.

The Naked Gun8
Aug 24, 2025
Its nearly unbelievable but hey can still make good comedy movies in Hollywood and this is a worthy successor in the franchise. It might not be as good as the first 2 movies but left me more than satisfied. They are bold enough to make political incorrect jokes which is rare nowadays. Lets start at the beginning. The naked Gun movies were classic comedy movies that were hugely successful and beloved by fans. At their time comedy / spoof / parody movies were mostly really good. Then came a dark age for the genre with horrible movies. A lot of us thought the genre is dead. But back to the topic. The strengths of the old movies were good writing, a grasp of good jokes with the right pacing and Leslie Nielsen who can be dead serious in the most hilarious situations. I must point out that the rest of the cast was incredibly good too. This was a mayor sorrow for the new movie. Can Liam Neeson deliver and are they able to make non HR sanitized fun. I went to cinema with friends in a nostalgic felling as we watched the old movie(s) back then in cinema too. We feared that the movie would not hold up but it delivered. We laughed a lot and were entertained. Like I said they make some political incorrect jokes, fun of modern things, running gags and more. Liam Neeson was incredibly good. He channeled Leslie Nielson perfectly. The rest of the cast is great too with maybe the exception of the Villain. The story is a vehicle for the jokes and self aware of it which I don't mind. It is maybe a strength for a comedy. I think I said enough for the review. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and had good jokes taht I still remember. I give an 8/10 and hope we get sequels.

Ballerina8
Jun 15, 2025
A really good spin off. We expected a mediocre movie and were positively surprised. It is not on par with the main John Wick movies but definitely worth watching. They avoided the “Girlboss” trope and wanted to add to the lore while staying true to the franchises strengths. Of cause there are some weaknesses but lets start with the story. Its the story of Eve Macarro. As child her father was murdered before her eyes by a group she didn't know. Winston the manager of the Continental Hotel helped her by introducing her to the Ruska Roma. There she is trained to be a Ballerina and a killer. However the past haunts her and on a mission she finds a clue to her fathers murderers. Here I stop. The story while not reinventing the wheel is satisfying. They add to the lore, show more about the Ruska Roma and politics. The characters are fine. Ana de Armas as Eve works well enough. I mean she is good but also a bit shallow. They avoided the Girlboss trope as it is shown she has to work hard to defeat stronger / bigger foes. The returning characters all deliver. The new ones are interesting with Gabriel Byrne standing out as villain. The fight choreography is good but again not on John Wick level. It is still very satisfying and they want to add new things like grenades, flamethrowers and ice skates. I was impressed with the soundtrack. Sneakingly good until I noticed how it enhances the atmosphere. Overall I am sad that this will probably not be a hit as the production cost are to high. A lot was discussed that Marvel and Disney destroyed female lead movies. Even really good ones like this are failing in the box office. However I still like it and recommend the movie. An 8/10 is valid for me.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania8
Mar 6, 2025
An entertaining movie but, except the transformation stuff, it is the same set up as the first 2 movies. It is for you to decide if this is good, bad or neutral. I did not mind. The movie starts with the 125 year anniversary of the Hotel. Dracula is planning to retire and give ownership of the hotel to Mavis and Johnny. However in the last moments Johnnys ove performance and ideas make him hesitate. As last second excuse he points out that the monster real estate laws only allow monsters to own the hotel. With this the story starts. Like I said it is a similar set up but the new stuff is enough for me. I was entertained and liked what they did with the transformations. The humor works well. I just realized I can repeat the statement it is good but not excellent for a lot of the movie. It is valid for story, humor character development and ideas. The animations keep the style of the series and satisfy me as always. The voice actors are great and there are no missteps. Overall I think I give an 8/10 but fully understand the lower ratings of others.

Frozen II8
Mar 2, 2025
A lot better than I expected. It has a few minor weaknesses but delivers an enjoyable experience. The movie is set approx 3 years after the events of the first movie. It starts with a flashback to a story Anna and Elsas parents told them in their childhood. In the present Elsa is hearing a strange luring voice while they prepare for a harvest festival. However there are events of the past that catch up to them. I like the story. They add a lot to the lore, worldbuilding and (a bit lesser to the) characters. There are a few plot holes I spotted or should I say inconsistencies. Without spoilers I cant go much into details. Lets say their mother could prepare them far better and why is there not more starvation after so many years? Honestly I think it was an afterthought to continue the story and not planed initially. Because the story delivers I will not rant about this. The characters work well and I see no missteps in their actions and developments. Not the most original progress and ideas but like I said it works for me enough. The animations are gorgeous. Everything looks so good that I wan to explore the world. Now to my most negative complain. They have to much songs in this. The first movie won me over but here you have no “Let it go” moment. To be fair nothing is annoying but it becomes a bit to much immersion breaking for me. The voice actors deliver a good performance and add a lot to the characters. I must admit that Olaf gets a bit annoying here and there with his trivia facts. Overall I am thinking to give a rounded up 8/10. As older guy I remember the direct to DVD sequels from Disney sequels like Mulan, Little Mermaid and others. Aladdin was the only noteworthy exception. This one is far better and should be praised for this.

Inside Out 210
Feb 16, 2025
An amazingly good sequel. They took all that made the original great and developed it further in a way that feels organic and satisfying. The story is set shortly after the first movie. Riley has found new friends and her ice hockey team won the local junior championships. This caught the attention of the coach of the nearby high school team which invited Riley and her 2 closest friends to a try-out training. This is big stuff as the high school team “Fire Hawks” has a really good reputation and has Rileys idol Val as player. But it will not go smoothly as the puberty hits her. New emotions are added to the control room in her head. I like the new story and emotions. It is an immersive story that is relatable. I can feel the weight of the decisions, troubles and caused emotions. The new characters Anxiety, Embarrassment, Boredom (Ennui, did not know the word before) and Nostalgia are excellent. They are an organic addition to the team. Also the themes of the story and resolve are meaningful. The voice actors fully deliver their roles and I have not seen a single misstep. There is of cause some good humour and it is so well done that it does not harm the serious themes of the movie. The art style is again really excellent. Everything looks good and nothing breaks the immersion. I am happy that this movie was also a financial success. Pixar was on the road to ruin after the last few movies. I am hesitant to address this but it is not woke and shows how diversity is done right. The cast is diverse but all characters are really good and not preachy. There were rumours online that they were pressured to remove anything that can be considered woke out of the movie. I seen nothing that seems like they cut content. Overall this is a really well done sequel. It hits me emotional and has a lot to think about. I give a 10/10 even if it is not as refreshing as the first movie because sequels that good are rare.

The Lost City6
Feb 1, 2025
I am divided. It has a slow and mildly awkward beginning but becomes an entertaining movie latter. It is more than a guilty pleasure but not good enough for a full recommendation. It is the story of Loretta. She is a former archaeological researcher but after her husbands death she writes thrashy but successful romance adventures. Think about the “(Scottish) Highlander” romance novels but with a bit of Indiana Jones adventures. On the promoting tour with the book cover model Alan she is kidnapped into an adventure. I stop here to avoid spoilers. Like I said the start made me almost quit the movie but when the story gets momentum I was entertained. They use a lot of cliches and old tropes but it works. I think the actors make this movie worthwhile. The main cast with Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe are very entertaining. Brad Pitt is amazing in his small (parody?) role and Da’Vine Joy Randolph won me over too. The sets and locations are well chosen and give good adventure vibes. I see sparkles of a truly great movie. The humour works fine with a few missteps. I think I said everything I should. Overall it is entertainingly enough to not disappoint. It was entertaining enough for me to be in the 6-7/10 realm. Not enough to recommend the movie but too good to shun it. I give a 6/10 for the slow start.

Sonic the Hedgehog 39
Jan 26, 2025
This movie is incredibly good especially as sequels go. The story is meaningful, they got the humor and serious parts right atop of an awesome Jim Carry in a double role. You can feel the fun they had. Even if you dislike the movie you should watch the “Laser Scene Sonic 3” on You Tube. The story is inspired by Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog. Be warned it is darker for Sonic franchise standards. It is about self discovery, revenge and how past events influence a character. I am a bit vague here to avoid spoilers. The story fully works but I find the first few minutes a bit boring. However when the story is getting momentum it is engaging, immersive and fully entertaining. I can understand each characters motives, struggles and emotions. The story carries the charters well and also vice versa. Like I said they got good humor and handle serious issues in a way that none harms the other. Especially a lot of more recent Marvel movies fail in this regard. All actors / voice-actors fully deliver and the rumors that this is probably Jim Carreys best performance are true. The whole team put their heart into the movie and I praise all of them. The special effects look great and I have seen no missteps. It should be a no brainer as they listened to fan complains for the first movie. Of cause there is a lot of fan service done right and you should watch the after credits scenes for even more. The soundtrack is amazing but the scene stealer is the laser scene. Overall I was fully entertained and want this franchise to go on for many more movies. If you liked the previous movies this will not disappoint you.

Ip Man 28
Jan 12, 2025
A great sequel. Like before it is an artistic take on the life of Yip Man who was a Wing Chun master and teacher of Bruce Lee. Also it is a signature role for Donnie Yen. The story is a continuation of the previous movie. Ip Man and his family escaped to Hongkong where they wanted to start a new life. However it is not easy as there are rival martial arts schools and there are struggles with the British who run Hongkong as colony back then. The story has a personal element and an overarching story. I cant go into much details because of spoilers. I like both parts and was satisfied. The actors are amazing. Like I said it is Donnie Yens signature role but it ends not there. Darren Shahlavi is such a great love to hate villain that made the movie more enjoyable. Then we have also a great Sammo Hung, Kent Cheng and all the others. I cared and enjoyed the characters which is a hallmark for good writing. Because of that I have also to praise the team behind the camera. Those are two sides of the same coin. The fights are a highlight. Especially the final fight is so amazing I consider it a must see for martial arts fans. The rest is also well choreographed and never fails to entertain. Optically it is fine too. It captures the feeling of the time. To be fair: I am no historian. They could be far off but for a casual I see no immersion breaking things. Overall this is a no brainer for martial arts fans. I recommend it without hesitation.

Red One7

A silly enjoyable turn your brain off movie. Nothing less and nothing more. If you want to see a high class story or art you are in the wrong movie. The story is centered around Callum Drift who is Santa Claus security chief. Unbeknownst to most of mankind mythological creatures exist and there is a hidden peace treaty that is overwatched by a secret agency. Also unbeknownst to this the hacker Jack O’Malley is selling an information that exposes the hidden base of Santa Clause. I stop here to avoid spoilers. Like I said it is silly fun and has a lot of old tropes, cliches and stereotypes. I can clearly see why other dislike it. Because I cant see this as nothing else as a silly fun movie I disagreed with them even when they are totally correct. You cant claim it is a vegan restaurants fault to have no steaks or a Chinese restaurant having no pizza. Back to the movie. I find the setting and world building interesting. Yes they borrow ideas from a lot of sources and will not win a story or originality award. The sets and visual effects are fine. The characters deliver a solid performance for the genre. Overall I repeat my beginning statement. If you want a silly fun movie this is for you. I f you want something mentally challenging or art you should stay far away from this movie.

The Crow10
Nov 10, 2024
A dark gothic fantasy movie that will always be remembered for the tragic accident that killed Brandon Lee. There is a legend that a crow carries the soul back to the lands of the living when a person dies under harsh circumstances and cant rest in the afterlife. Eric Daven was shot and left to die while his fiance was r**** and murdered. Because he cant rest in the afterlife a crow brings him back to settle things. The movie is a mixture of revenge story, fantasy, film noir, horror and thriller elements. The interesting story, great actors, pacing and effects make it a classic.. It might have some smaller weaknesses but because everything is so well done those barely matter. It is based on a graphic novel of the same name that I did not read. However because the movie is so good that I wouldn't care if its an in name only adaptation. As remark: I am the books are better guy (Which is 99% correct by the way). The team behind the camera put their hearth and soul into the movie. All actors fully deliver. A lot of us think that Brandon Lee would become a mayor actor in Hollywood but sadly this would never happen. I want also point out that all actors for the bad guys did a great job. The characters aka actors and story are well interwoven. The effects still hold up today especially for the budget. The style however was unique and excellent. Overall this is a must see I would recommend. Even more if you have seen the awful 2024 remake. It made me write this review.

50 First Dates8
Nov 10, 2024
I am not an Adam Sandler fan nor are love stories my favourite genre. However this movie won me over easily. The story set up, characters and ending are too good. It is the story of Henry Roth who is just casually dating avoiding any serious commitments. One day he meets Lucy Whitemore who has an anterograde amnesia after an accident. Basically she cant remember new things and is reliving the same day every new day without noticing it. As sidenote: This condition is real and nightmare fuel. Back to the review. It is a heart-warming love story with an impossible challenge. Might be too silly for some but for me the idea, set up and story work amazingly well. The actors fully deliver the roles. I repeat that I am not an Adam Sandler fan but would praise him here. Drew Barrymore might even be better. I spare my and your time by praising the whole cast. Overall I would recommend the movie and give an 8/10.

Ip Man8
Oct 20, 2024
A martial arts movie very loosely based on the life of Ip Man who was a master of Wing Chun and also trained Bruce Lee. The first movie is set before and during the Japanese occupation of China in WW 2. Be warned that is a nightmare topic for research. The Japanese committed crimes against humanity beyond everything you will imagine. The movie is showing some parts. Ip Man is a Wing Chun master but seeks not glory or reputation. He has incredible skills but when the Japanese invade he and everyone else struggle. I am vague to avoid spoilers. The movie has some of the same strengths as the John Wick movies. Interesting characters that create emotion even in the smaller roles, great well choreographed fights and a bit of good humor. The whole cast is amazing. It became Donnie Yens Signature role. They also nailed the bad guys and it is faster if I praise the whole cast. The sets look awesome and fully believable. The story is engaging and left us satisfied. A few scenes could be shorter. The fights are well choreographed and you feel the impact. They avoid the shaky camera and poor lighting. The soundtrack is sneakingly good. The kind that enhance but you did not actively notice. What is a bit of a downer for me is that I knew what the Japanese did in China. Cant hold it against the movie. Overall I give an 8/10 and recommendation. I plan to watch all movies in the series.

Repossessed8
Oct 13, 2024
A parody of „The Exorcist“ or should I say a rematch. Be warned. It is one of the movies you either like or hate. 20 years earlier Father Jebediah Mayii did an exorcism and cast out the devil from the young Nacy Aglet. However now she is possessed again and the Mayii Father is too weak to do it again. This is the set up for this horror comedy. It has also parts of a media satire. I found it enjoyable and would recommend it. Especially compared to modern parody movies it is pure gold which is sadly not a great argument. I repeat here: Be warned as it is a hit or miss movie. In my circle of friends we are a bit divided between garbage and entertaining movie. The cast is excellent with a great Leslie Nielsen and good Antohny Stark. That they got Linda Blair is a plus. I see no missteps in the cast and performance. The humor mostly works and entertains. As always you should be familiar with the original movie to get more out of it. The practical effects are well done for its time and aged really well. Overall I give an 8/10 and did warn you that it is a hit or miss movie. I think that all is said here.

A Haunting in Venice10
Oct 6, 2024
Why does this movie get so low ratings? It has a great story with a lot of interesting twists, a cast of characters that fully deliver and a more than satisfying conclusion. It is the third Agatha Christie movie from Kenneth Branagh and based on the book Halloween Party. Because this is an Agatha Christie book I have not read I cant evaluate if its a faithful adaptation. Set in Venice a retired and disillusioned Hercule Poirot just wants to enjoy his retirement. But because of his reputation as world class detective he has to hire a bodyguard to fend of people who want to hire him to solve their problems. The events starts when his friend Adriane Oliver persuades him to (reluctantly) attend a Halloween party that has a séance that she belives is a fraud. This is the start of a story that will challenge Hercule Poirots perception and believes. I like the story that is a mixture of mystery and detective story. The twists are interesting and keep you guessing what happened. Like in each good detective story the revelation is incredible satisfying and I remembered that they left breadcrumbs I could have seen. The characters are excellent. Each one has secrets and/ or hidden motives. Like I said for the previous movies Kenneth Branagh is an incredible good Hercule Poirot. But it ends not here I must praise the whole cast and actors. They fully deliver their roles. I also want to mention that the team behind the camera did also their jobs really well. The atmosphere is incredible. It was intense and immersive. I felt the dread of the situation and being trap myself. Overall this was a positive surprise. I saw the mediocre ratings but heard good things from some reviewers. The movie is excellent and I lend it to friends and colleagues. Everyone, including me, liked or even loved the movie and so I give a 10/10. It was a great ride with an interesting story and great characters.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire9
Sep 30, 2024
I don't know why so many rate the movie that low. It was made with love and passion, honors the previous movies, has good humor and expands the lore. After the great Ghostbusters Afterlife I was interested in this movie. Like the teaser at the end of Afterlife suggested the new characters took over the mantle and building of the old team with help from Winston Zeddemore. Three years have passed and they are catching Ghost in New York. However something old seems to awaken while Walter Peck, who now is the mayor of New York, has an old grudge against the Ghostbusters. I stop here for spoiler reasons. The story is immersive and interesting. I like how they developed it along with the characters. There was no dull moment and there are tons of easter eggs. The whole cast returns and this is a huge win. You have the (alive) old Ghostbusters and the new characters. They work great together. I only miss Rick Moranis and hope he returns. I praise the whole cast and especially Mckenna Grace. From the new characters Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Alyn Lind are a strong addition. The villain could be set up or shown more but works for me. The special effects are well done and I never doubted anything. The humor works great with the characters. Overall I give a 9/10 and recommend it for fans of the franchise. Even if you dislike it you can feel the love for the franchise and characters.

Double Dragon8
Aug 25, 2024
I enjoyed the movie a lot but only because it hits my so bad its good spot. If you want an entertaining turn your brains off movie I recommend it without a second thought. The movie itself is based on the “Double Dragon” videogame franchise. Those were side scrolling beat em up games which had some good success in their time. The movie however is barely more than an “In name only” adaptation. Also I see sparkles of great ideas in it. It passes the “Could you tell the story in a way people get excited for it?” test. That means you could get a great movie out of it if done different / better. For example the set up is excellent. Years before an earthquake hit California and the government failed to adequately restore order and rebuild Los Angeles. The police is overburdened and when the night falls the gangs rule the streets as the police seeks shelter. Sounds pretty good so far. Then you have an ancient medallion, the Double Dragon, which grants mystic powers to its wielder. Also not bad. However the story is not on par with the set up. Like I said I enjoyed it but it is not good. You see the twists coming form miles away and also have seen the stereotypes, tropes and cliches many times before. The cast is however amazing. You have Mark Dacascos, Alyssa Milano, Julia Nickson, Leon Russom, Robert Patrick and Scott Wolf. All are good actors and I think they get the best they could out of the script. I even say Robert Patricks role as villain Shuko is amazing and deserves credit outside the so bad its good category. A hidden gem of movie villains. The humor in this movies hits well (with some misses). The style and practical effects are nice and enhance the setting. Overall I repeat my statement that “If you want an entertaining turn your brains off movie I recommend it without a second thought”.

John Wick: Chapter 49
Aug 24, 2024
A satisfying conclusion to the story. Amazingly we have the rare case of a movie franchise without a weak entry. Like before the movie has all strengths of the prequels and adds new characters, lore and worldbuilding. It starts some time after the events of John Wick 3. The Bowery King had saved John so that can recover from his serious injuries and train to reach his peak. Now he will take revenge on the High Table. The story is immersive, intense and full of nice twists. It was entertaining from start to finish. Again they nailed the style and have an eye for details. The actors and characters are also again excellent. Be it the returning roles or the new ones. Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance **** and Laurence Fishbourne resume their roles and nailed their characters. The new Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Clancy Brown, Natalia Tena, Hiroyuki Sawayama and Hiroyuki Sanada are excellent additions and I want to see movies to explore their stories too. The villains are again in the love to hate category with Bill Skarsgard and Scott Adkins. They managed to get near perfect choices even for the side characters. I was invested in their stories and fates which is the gold standard for writing characters. The fight scenes are well choreographed and the “Gun Fu” is strong with them. I want to praise the whole team behind the camera, visuals, writing and so on. Overall I give a 9/10 and feel bad not giving a perfect score. It is not that it is weak but that I like part 2 and 3 slightly better.

Ivanhoe10
Aug 18, 2024
A childhood favorite. It had all that was entertaining for me. Good villains, great heroes, astonishing visuals for its time and a story that is immersive and entertaining. Only much later I discovered it is based on a book from Sir Walter Scott. Because I did not read it I can give no evaluation if it is a faithful adaptation. The story is set after the third crusade. Richard the Lionheart has vanished on his way home while his brother John Lackland is ruining England. Sir Ivanhoe a loyal knight of Richard is searching for his king. This is the set up for the story. The story is entertaining from start to finish, Sadly I cant spoil why. They have a lot of familiar names played by great actors. The tournament and other battles are intense and immersive. However the character Wambas fate is a traumatizer. I rewatched the movie countless times always hoping for a different outcome as a child back then. The actors for their time are top notch. All fit their roles because I was invested in them. Also I clearly understood their motives which is today not a no brainer anymore (Bad writing is a big Hollywood problem around the time of this review). I love to hate the villains. Visually the movie impressed me back then but I don't thing it holds up. Then again I have seen bad CGI in more modern movies that is inferior to practical effects. Overall I give a 10/10 but also a nostalgia warning. Because it was a childhood favorite I am heavily influenced by it. Bonus knowledge: Richard the Lionheart is universally praised in movies, books and other media. However he had serious flaws. He was bankrupting England and that was not only by the ransom. He also committed things that would today be seen as crimes against humanity. I say not that he was an evil tyrant. I say his bad sides were overlooked / ignored like they did for many other historical figures.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum10
Jul 28, 2024
Amazingly the third movie also fully delivers. It has everything what made the previous movies so entertaining and adds more action, lore, worldbuilding and new characters. It starts directly where the last movie ended. John is on the run and has approx 50 minutes until a bounty of 14 million is activated. Even for “Baba Yaga” this is a no win scenario. Here I stop to avoid spoilers. It is an intense roller coaster ride with style and surprises. We were amazed how stylish the movies are with so much attention to detail. Then there are the actors. As always Keanu Reeves fully delivers his role. Ian Mc Shane, Lance **** and Laurence Fishburene return and reprise their great roles. I was so happy to see Mark Dacascos. I haven't seen him in a long time in movies. The other new characters played by Halle Berry, Said Taghmaoui and Asia Kate Dillo also deliver and I see no misstep here. The action is for the whole series a role model for competitors. The term “Gun Fu” was made for this. You feel the impact and pain. Additionally it is a good set up for the final movie. I give a 10/10 here as the movie was so entertaining that it felt wrong to go lower.

Deadpool & Wolverine10
Jul 27, 2024
Great respectless humor, garnered with brutal action and tons of cameos & easter eggs. Also Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are a match made in heaven. If you liked the previous movies this is a no branier. However I must point out some potential weaknesses. A lot of the humor depends about knowing the references. Be it Marvel, pop culture, Disney and more you gain more out of it if you know the context. A big question was if they respected Wolverines ending from Logan. I am conflicted here. They surpassed my worst fears but in a way that is so good and entertaining that I don't mind. Hard to describe without spoilers. The story is nothing special and I would mostly agree the statement that there is no real story. It is a vehicle to start the buddy movie. This sounds maybe too negative as I was hugely entertained. The humor is spot on and we laughed a lot. Nothing is sacred here and Disney / Marvels MCU get also hit hard. There are some small misfires in the humor department but those are neglectable. The movie is filled to the brim with fan service, cameos and easter eggs to satisfy everyone. The actors are amazing. Like I said Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are a match made in heaven. However the whole cast delivers and I was so happy to see some familiar faces I wont spoil. You can feel the heart and soul they put into the movie and the fun they had. The action scenes are brutal and it is a hard R. Even slasher movies cant compete. The fights are as entertaining as humorous. The sets and special effects look good. I must speak about the soundtrack. A statement was that there are songs that should not work but they do fit perfectly. I agree 100%. Overall I want to give a 9/10 but it was so satisfying to get a Marvel movie that is made for the fans instead of an agenda that I raise my rating to a 10/10.

John Wick: Chapter 210
Jul 7, 2024
The rare case of a really good sequel. It has everything what made the original movie so entertaining and adds more action. lore, worldbuilding and new characters. After rounding up the loose ends of the last movie John Wick wants to go back into retirement. However he had drawn a lot of attention towards him so a former associate wants to collect a debt from John and he cant refuse without dire consequences. This is the set up for the story. I was surprised that they made a sequel I would rate even higher than the first movie. It is immersive, hugely entertaining, has style and superb focus even on details. There is no boring scene, all sets look amazing and the characters were perfectly chosen. Keanu Reeve, Ian McShane, Lance **** and John Leguizamo return to their roles and fully deliver. They nail their roles and I want to see more of them. The new characters are equally strong. Ricardo Scarmarcio, Ruby Rose, Laurence Fishburne and Common (Lonnie Rashid Lynn) are so entertaining to watch. The action scenes are superb and the franchise is the poster child for the term Gun Fu. Nearly no (modern) movie makes you feel the impact and intensity like this. As example: Many movies are visually too dark and have shaky cameras during action scenes. Here they are fixated that you can clearly see whats going on. Lastly it has an incredible set up for a sequel. Overall this is for me slightly better than the original. Me and my friends were entertained from beginning to the end. Its a 10/10 for me.

John Wick9
Jun 25, 2024
tylish and hugely entertaining. It is a revenge story in film noire style that started a franchise with no bad movie in it. The strengths are great action, fascinating characters, amazing wordlbuilding and a story that left me fully satisfied. The movie starts showing John Wick who lost his deeply beloved wife and is now a broken man. As last present his wife gifted him a dog to care for. A bit later the son of the local crime lord wants Johns car and when he refuses to sell it breaks in his house, beat John up, steals the car and killed his dog. That was a deadly mistake. He should be suspicious as the chop shop owner, who works for his father, refuses to even touch the car and hits him in the face. Later his father beats up his son and tells him that John Wick is the man even the bogey man fears nicknamed Baba Yaga. As sidenote: Baba Yaga is the “Chuck Norris” of evil witches and absolutely fearsome. Back to the movie. This start the revenge spree. Like I said the story is intense, immersive and entertaining. I probably could find a lot of flaws but I give you the definition for a good movie. “You do not search for flaws, logic failures and weaknesses because it entertains you well. Boring movies leave your mind unfulfilled and you find flaws easily”. The great strengths are the characters. They found the near perfect actors for all roles. Be it Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Mikael Nyqvist, Williem Dafoe, John Leguizamo, Lance **** or Ian McShane to name a few. All are excellent. They fully deliver their roles and made me forget they were just actors. What the whole franchise did well is style. They nailed the big and small things. It is visually beautiful. The action, choreography and fights are breathtakingly good. You often feel the impact. The term “Gun Fu” was made for movies like this. I think I stop here to avoid sounding like a fanboy I probably are. Overall this is excellent pop corn entertainment. I give a 9/10 because the sequels refined the formula even more and freely admit I want to give a 10/10.

Artemis Fowl2
Jun 15, 2024
An insult to readers of the books. It is the kind of adaptation were the producers take the source material and change it to tell their version of the story. To be fair you can recognize the plot points but also mayor changes. For example: Do you know that the main character Artemis is the villain and his motives are not pure if you just watched the movie? Also he is a genius which is also not shown. I can continue but it would be a too long list. The actors are fine and I wont blame them for the script or changes for the story. Special and practical effects work well for its time and budget. Overall avoid this if you read the books. If not it is decent but nothing to write home about.

They forced themselves to recreated the Disney feeling of old times. It is not bad but also no masterpiece. Lets start with the good things. The art style and animations look fine. There are a few missteps here and there but those are neglectable. You have to look hard to spot them despite what YouTubers say. I like the characters and voice actors but must admit they (mostly) failed to created a memorable villain. Lastly the songs are really good and I am the “I hate singing in Disney movies” guy. Now to the bad things. While you can enjoy the story without a doubt it collapses when you start thinking about it. For example with spoiler warnings: No one knows basic math. One wish per moth means that most wishes will never be granted as the kingdom is not that small (12 wishes per year). I hate to point out that Asha failed despite the movie suggesting otherwise. She wants that granting wishes were not in the hand of just 1 person. Do you know how it ends? Then the point were Asha and the villain Magnifico argue. Her grandfathers wish is to empower all people to fulfill their wishes them self. On paper this looks good and is a selfless wish without a doubt. However you just need 1 bad apple in the Kingdom to start horrors beyond their imagination. Think about far left or right extremists or good intentions turned to extreme. Ashas argument that her Grandfather is good is no argument at all. I even have no doubt that she is 100% correct. The source of the wish can be pure but the outcome is uncontrollable and has nothing to do with her grandfather. Lastly the villain Magnifico could be amazing. They forced them to much into the stereotypical villain role. There are sparks that could flesh out the character. Just as an idea. Why not make Asha and Magnifico realize that the other have valid points and that they both wont be correct all the time? Lets them balance each other out to grant more wishes. Overall I say this is watchable but not as good as former Disney movies. I would have brought back the classic movies from Snow White to Moana to the cinema instead.

Meet the Spartans2
Mar 17, 2024
At the first 5 minutes I thought this could at least be entertainingly bad but all hope was lost soon after. It is just a really bad movie. The jokes are mostly not funny, the humor is too vulgar and they overdid a lot of things. The movie itself is a parody of 300 which is based on a comic series which based on a romanticized version of the historical battle of Thermopylae. They added a lot of jabs to other movies and jokes about pop culture. Like I said it gets unbearable really fast. Hollywood lost the capability to make good or even decent parody movies long ago and this could be a low point. It was nominated for 5 golden raspberries and I was surprised it did not won. I would not recommend it even to people who enjoy bad movies. I give a 2/10 because there are worse movies out there.

The Marvels5
Mar 3, 2024
It started really well and you could probably enjoy it when you don't think too much about it. However I realized that Captain Marvel is actually the big bad. The villainess and Kree call her “The destroyer” and she caused a lot of bad stuff with tons of causalities I wont spoil here. Even more she could fix the trouble she caused later in a few moments and did a lot of damage to the remaining Skrulls too. I think even Thanos did not as much damage to the Kree as her. The villainess Dar-Benn has actually a lot of good points, is reasonable until Captain Marvel destroyed the peace talks and just wants to heal the Kree homeworld. My second complain is that the story also declines. Its getting worse towards the end. There are awkward moments like the singing alien race, the “cat” rescue method and some dialogues. The actors do a decent to good job. I will never blame a weak script and poor writing on the actors. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is a highlight and improves the movie. Also Teyonah Parris and the Khan family fully deliver. They did not harm Nick Fury here (They will do it in Secret Wars). I see no missteps in the cast. However the script is not that good. I see why many dislike the movie. It collapses and has to many bad decisions. The action scenes are mostly well done. For the special effects I see a few missteps here and there. I read that they mistreat the CGI artists and nobody wants to work for Marvel because of it. The soundtrack is more hit than miss. Overall this is a 5/10 for me. I see sparkles **** movie that could be.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken8
Mar 3, 2024
I liked it but have to admit that the movie has some weaknesses. Lets start with the good things. The animation and art style are really good. I like the characters and plot. Especially the Gillman family is fun to watch. The humor works well for most parts. Now for the bad stuff. The story is quite foreseeable and I was able to predict the main plot twist and outcome early on. Also to quote a female friend the movie is a bit misandric. Men are just bystanders and do not have big roles except maybe the secondary antagonist. Lets say it did not reinvent the wheel. For itself the story is about Ruby Gillman who is a seemingly a normal teenager but with blue skin. Her family has a secret. They are (humanoid) Kraken that live along humans on land. Everything that is odd about them is explained by being Canadians. Rudy is forbidden from entering the ocean which is a problem because the prom is o a ship. So starts the story. Like I said I like the characters and story. The voice actors are fine and deliver. The soundtrack is fitting and has no missteps. Overall I will give an 8/10 with a warning that this is not for everyone.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves10
Sep 8, 2023
The movie is a positive surprise. It is entertaining, has a lot of good humor, tons of fan service and enjoyable characters. Sadly it will be one of those movies that is really good but no one watched. Also I have seen the first D&D movie in cinema that was hilariously bad (but entertaining). This is an improvement by several levels. I bought the movie on DVD after hearing many people praised it. It was even better than I hoped for. The story starts with the bard Edgin and female barbarian Holga in a prison. They hope to be pardoned and telling the story how they got into trouble. However this is just the set up as they did not know that there was more behind it. The story fully works. All characters have their flaws, motivations and heroes journey. More movies need to do this. I liked them because I can relate to their struggles. Everyone has doubts, made decisions that backfire or dis-improves things by trying to fix them. There are also tons of lore, easter eggs and references. If you pay attention you even see the characters from the old D&D cartoon. The cast is near perfect and fits their roles. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodrigues, Sophia Lillis, Rege Jean Page, Justine Smith and all the others are excellent and have great chemistry. The bad guys are so enjoyable. I love to hate them. I should also praise the writers and directors. They made an awesome movie. Other than that I praise the humor and action scenes. Both are fully satisfying. The special effects are great too. They fit into the movie in a way that feels genuine. Overall I think I should give a 10/10. It might not be that good but it is a positive surprise and immense improvement. Also they made some positive example how to subvert expectation (In a way that I would applaud).

Stand by Me10
Sep 3, 2023
A poster child for the statement „Movies like this were not made anymore“. It is a childhood adventure **** of friends that went on a search for the body of a missing boy. It won me over with the cast, immersion and emotional attachment. Maybe it is a bit bittersweet as it is told in flashback when the now adult Gordon reads a newspaper article (Wont spoil what). The movie is based on the story “The Body” by Stephen King which I did not read so I can not say if it is a faithful adaption. However because the movie is so good I did not mind if it would be an “In name only” adaption. Just as reference I am normally a “The books are better” guy for 99% of all adaptations. The strengths are like I said the cast. You have a strong Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O’Connell and Corey Feldman. All deliver and have great chemistry. Good child actors are hard to find and all of these made a successful career. I should also praise the writers Bruce Evans and director Rob Reiner. They created a great immersion and the adventure / characters feel genuine and believable. It was the kind of movie you forget that it is a movie because the story fully delivers. Of cause there is the soundtrack as the title is a reference to the all time classic “Stand by me” by Ben Earl King. It has a lot of other great tracks like “Great Balls of Fire”, “Let the good Times roll” etc. Overall I might be influenced by nostalgia but will give a 10/10 as it felt wrong to go lower. I do not know why it is not a cult classic.

The Scorpion King6
Aug 5, 2023
A solid and entertaining popcorn movie. It is not art and does not need to be. After appearing in “The Mummy Returns” we get a spin off with the Rock giving the backstory of the (later so called) Scorpion King. The Mummy trilogy was back then a huge success. It was a mixture of adventure and horror garnered with action a humor. This spin off takes place far before the events of the Mummy movies. It is set approx 5000 years ago where the ruler Memnon is conquering his neighbor countries (or city states) one by one and never losing a battle. Mathayus is one of the last surviving warriors of his people and tasked to kill the seeress which granted Memnon his victories. This is the set up for the story. What should I say. The story is entertaining but foreseeable. If you know classic movie stories and tropes you can see the twists and outcomes from miles away. I think you should not think too much or it will ruin the movies. If you like this or not the actors are the saving grace. With Dwayne Johnson, Kelly Hu and Steven Brand in the lead roles we get a good performance. The hidden gem is Grant Heslov. The action scenes are nice an enjoyable. There is a bit of good humor but not overwintering. In total I think this is an entertaining movie but sadly forgettable except for some moments. I give a 6/10 here but will say it can be everywhere from a 3-8/10 compared how much smart writing you want.

Black Panther10
Aug 5, 2023
One of the best Marvel solo movies. It has a good cast, an interesting story with a relatable moral dilemma and a strong villain that could be a great hero if things were different. After a flashback to the past the story deals with T’Challa becoming the next king of Wakanda. This is not granted as he has to fulfill a ceremony and not all groups / tribes in Wakanda are satisfied with the status quo. As sidenote: Wakanda is pretending to be an average African country but in truth they are far technological superior than anyone else and this is because of their Vibranium metal (Fictional metal with amazing properties far stronger than titanium). Meanwhile a strange soldier named Killmonger has a plan that can change everything. I am sorry to be vague here to avoid spoilers. The story is amazing. It deals with sins of the past, what makes a leader and responsibilities. Also the villain is really strong. His motives are understandable, he is intimidating and awesome. Like I said he could be a great hero if his past was different. For the actors we got a strong cast. Chadwick Boseman is the perfect choice for T’Challa. Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger is equally good and a favorite choice after Thanos for best MCU villain. I think I shorten it a bit a praise the whole cast and team behind the screen as it is well earned. The costumes, set and special effects were excellent too. Overall I think the praise is deserved and I also give a 10/10. Would recommend it for all MCU fans and even outside for the story as it is relatable.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie10
Aug 5, 2023
A really good movie. It has amazing animations, is full of fun, has tons of fan-service and just wants to entertain. Also Jack Blacks performance as Bowser is more than memorable. Don't believe the critics as this movie is their nightmare. It shows that if you make what fans want and stay away from politics you get a successful movie. Atop of this it is not even anti woke. Princess Peach is a strong and independent woman without harming her character, fan expectations and the enjoyment of the movie. She is awesome. Is it perfect or an all time classic? No but it is a breath fresh air or returning to old style when Disney and Pixar are failing. The story starts with Mario and Luigi who are plumbers in Brooklyn. They risk financially everything to start their own company and are drawn into the adventure. I stop here. The story is fateful to the source material and there is so much to discover. There are tons of Easter eggs and as Mario and Nintendo fan you will be amazed. As warning: It is entertaining if you are not that familiar but is a weaker experience(Tested with a friend that is familiar with just the basics). The animations are gorgeous to watch. All characters and the world are colorful and look like you imagined it. The voice actors fuilly deliver and I praise them all. The soundtrack is full of familiar Mario themes and they use a few pop songs. Those fell a bit forced but I don’t mind. Overall this is a must see movie. It is cementing Universals victory over Disney in animated movies. They beat them in their bread and butter category. I give a 9/10 as is weaker than the best animated movies of all time. Be warned: Not sure if this is an effect like eating normal food when starving (= Taste better than everything) because the animated movies before set the bar low.

Night of the Comet8
Jul 28, 2023
A unique mixture of horror and comedy. I found it refreshing especially for the budget but it is not a masterpiece. The story evolves around a rare transition of a comet which happen only every 65 million years. Anyone with knowledge about Dinosaurs will say “Wait a minute. That time span is familiar” ;-). However the two sisters Regina ans Samantha care not much about the event and will be surprised on the next morning. It is hard to navigate around the spoilers and even Metacritic seems not to care in its description. The movie is unique in its set up to be remembered. Also the characters, humor and moral dilemma was more than enough to kept me watching. The cast is excellent and the main characters played by Catherine Mary Steward and Kelli Maroney should be praised. For the effects I will say for a 700.000 $ movie they did also a fantastic job. They manage to create dread and fear. Do not expect this to be on the same lever as bigger production (Even if more modern movies fail in that regard). The humor works well and they manage that the serious and humorous parts don't harm each other. Overall I think this is worth to watch for the unique setting, characters and story. An entertaining movie that is memorable. I give an 8/10.

Love at First Bite8
Jul 8, 2023
A really nice comedy that is somehow forgotten. As you can imagine with a title like this it is about Dracula. He has some sort of midlife crisis after 700 years of being a Vampire. Also the communist party wants to make a training camp for athletes out of his castle. Because he adores an American fashion model and the US lifestyle of the seventies has much to offer he chose to move to the USA with his loyal servant Renfield. This is the set up for the story. I would describe it as comedy love story with a bit of horror. It has elements of classic horror movies, culture shock, a buddy comedy and love story. The characters / actors enhance the story and deliver a memorable movie. The humor works really well especially compared to the weak modern spoof movies. I cared for the characters and was entertained. This is for me the hallmark of a really good movie. Like I said the actors deliver and I praise the whole cast. The writing is clever and entertaining for a comedy. Right mixture of humor and seriousness. Overall this is a forgotten gem I almost forgot existed. Would recommend it for comedy fans and fans of classic movies.

Peter Pan & Wendy5
Jun 12, 2023
While the criticism of the movie is a bit exaggerated it is not completely wrong. I think there was even a more competent story that had to be sacrificed to fit the “modern audience” agenda. Actually I enjoyed parts of the movie and there are a few good ideas. I don't mind that the lost boys have female members, Tinkerbell is black or that Wendy has more action scenes. However not everything works well, there are cringe moments and some parts should be a bit toned down. Also the idea of Captain Hooks backstory is not that original. There is a book that toys with even darker ideas that they use partly here (I am vague to avoid spoilers). If I had to describe the movie it is a darker more matured version of the story which could be the problem. We wanted more a colorful Disney movie that resembles the original movie. For itself it is not that bad. The actors deliver a solid to good performance. Especially Captain Hook played by Jude Law is memorable. I also praise the songs in this which I normally hate in many Disney movies. Probably because these are sparingly used. While I am at it it could be a bit more colorful. Overall I am not sure what to make out of it. I give a 5/10 and say the movie Hook did it better and the adaptation for modern audience did not make it better.

Capricorn One8
Jun 11, 2023
An interesting thriller that handles a conspiracy theory well. The story is about the first crewed mission to Mars by NASA. Shortly before the lift off the 3 astronauts were removed and brought to a military base in a far off desert. There they were informed that the mission could never succeed because of technical problems and this would practically destroy NASAs founding. They will fake the whole trip and want their support. If they don't agree to help their wife's aka families will pay the price (Their wife's are currently on a plane that will have an accident). I stop here to avoid anything more than the set up but lets say not everything will go as planned. This is an entertaining popcorn movie. I was immersed from start to finish and don't know why this movie is rated so low. I even though of giving a 10/10 to increase the too low rating but this feels forced. The actors fully deliver their roles and I don't see a serious mistake. The sets and effects were good for the time and budget. I like especially the sets for the fake Mars landing. Might not be a masterpiece but is definitely worth watching and remembering. Overall I give an 8/10 and recommendation. It is worth owing even on DVD and I would rewatch it. Bonus knowledge: There is the conspiracy theory that the moon landing was faked and filmed in a studio (in some versions even in Area 51 ;-). The Mythbusters make a really good episode debunking a lot of arguments. My main argument that it was not faked is Russia. They would never let a chance like this to humiliate the USA pass. They had the spy power as they even got the nuclear weapon secrets from the USA without any problems.

Fanboys8
Mar 25, 2023
I think this is a funny and enjoyable movie for Star Wars fans that others can not enjoy on the same level. The story is set in 1998 and Star Wars Episode 1 is announced. Because their friend Linus has terminal cancer and will not be alive when the movie is released in cinema an old (silly) plan from their childhood is reactivated. They want to break into the Skywalker Ranch and steal the movie aka rough cut for their friend. This starts their odyssey. Like I said this is a comedy for Star Wars fans that other probably wont enjoy that much. However since I am a fan this gets a pass. It is a funny tour the force against the odds. It even got George Lucas blessing and a lot of cameos from a lot of bigger names in the industrie. Because of the small budget from slightly less than 1 million and the passion of the whole team and actors I wont say anything negative. They put their hearth and soul into it and I have seen much weaker big budget Hollywood productions. Overall I repeat the statement that it is a movie for Star Wars fans. Maybe not a must see but definitely entertaining. I gave an 8/10.

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over7
Mar 20, 2023
I enjoyed the movie but have to amid it is not a masterpiece or art. It hits my soft spot for B-movies and is probably a bit in the “So bad it is good realm”. So be warned. It is the third movie in the “Spy Kids” franchise. This time like the title suggest it is set in a video game like virtual reality. The story starts when Juni Cortez is persuaded to a last mission as his sister is trapped in a virtual reality video game called “Game Over”. Because it will be released in a few hours million people can be trapped too. This is the set up for the story. It is a fun video game themed story. Maybe a bit to cliche and too many tropes but enjoyable for me. The cast of the previous movies return and deliver their roles. However the new characters area bit mixed. Especially Sylvester Stallone earned his golden raspberry well deserved (Not his fault as I think it was the script). The special effects were nice and fit the theme of the movie. Overall I think this is fun to watch and you should not overthink it too much. It is one of the turn your brains off movies to enjoy which to be fair can be hit or miss.

Spy Kids8
Mar 6, 2023
A spy comedy / family movie. It takes itself not that serious and just wants to entertain. This works well for me. The story is about the retired top spies Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez who have retired and are happily married with children. However they never told their kids about their past days as spies. One day they are called back into action and this starts the events of the movie. I am avoiding spoilers here. The story is humorous and entertains from start to finish. A lot comes from the strong cast and I will just praise all characters. Special bonus for Danny Trejo ;-). The humor is spot on and I laughed a lot during the movie. I want to praise the creativity and the up to eleven spy gadgets. Even Q from James Bond will be jealous. The effects looked good back then but I am not sure how those hold up. Overall I give an 8/10 and recommend it for its fun entertainment. Might not be art or an all time classic but don't needs to be.

The Goonies9
Feb 19, 2023
It is the kind of heartwarming adventure movies you either like or hate with passion. The movie is based on a story by Steven Spielberg and I would describe it as children's adventure with fantasy elements and good humor. The story starts when the Goon Docks area of the town of Astoria is facing foreclosure. A group of resident children who call themselves “The Goonies” go on a last adventure together where they find a hint of a buried treasure. I am vague here to avoid spoilers. Like I said it is a fantastic adventure that entrained me a lot. Together with the actors it is the strength of the movie. This is a fitting translation to the cast. All Goonies are excellent in their roles and because good child actors are rare this deserves even more praise. The adult actors also deliver so there is no misstep. I want also praise the humor, sets and effects too. Overall this is a charming movie many have fond memories of. It barley misses to become a classic but its definitely worth watching and remembering. I heard rumors they want to make a sequel recently and hope they never do. A movie like this would not be made today so a sequel is destined to fail.

Deadpool 210
Feb 12, 2023
A strong sequel. While I think it is not as refreshing as the first movie it has the same strengths, one of the best post credit scenes ever and addresses some complaint of the first movies in humorous ways like why there are so few X-Men ;-). Like the prequel we get the “Merc with a Mouth”, hugely entertaining humor, 4th wall breaks and an entertaining story that takes itself not too serious. This time we deal with Deadpools worst screw up that is so painful he just wants to die (Wont spoil details). However his regeneration does not allow this. He tries to save a child but unbeknownst to him this will get harder as expected. I try my best here to avoid spoilers so I am sorry for being cryptic. The story works well and is a good vehicle for the characters, humor and action. The old characters return to reprise their roles and the new ones are an excellent addition. Ryan Reynolds again fully delivered. Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller, Leslie Uggams and Karan Soni are also again excellent. For the new characters we get a truly strong Josh Brolin, good Julian Dennison, entertaining Zazie Beetz and Shioli Kutsuna. The humor is as respectless, dark and entertaining as it gets. There is no misfire. I have to repeat that the post credits are a highlight. The special effects are nice too and I think I said all there is. I give a rounded up 10 because this is a really good sequel and this deserves extra credit.

Deadpool10
Feb 11, 2023
This Deadpool movie gets everything right. We get finally the “Merc with a Mouth”, hugely entertaining humor, 4th wall breaks and an entertaining story that takes itself not too serious. Also the rest of the cast is excellent and I don't want to replace anyone. Lets start with the beginning. The Deadpool character is a fan favorite. He is unconventional, entertaining and self aware 4th wall breaking. Deadpool can be or is a mixture of hero, antihero, villain and comic relief. In the right hands the character is pure comedic gold but can have also good serious tones and problems. When we got Deadpools first appearance in “X-Men Origins Wolverine” (played by Ryan Reynolds too) we all were shocked. The character was not even in name only like Deadpool and a universal disappointment. So we were skeptic when the Deadpool movie was announced. However all our fears were pointless. Ryan Reynolds fully delivered and the writers / director nailed everything. It is what we wanted. A humorous ride with lovable characters, good action and lots of fan service. The characters are another strength. I already praised Ryan Reynolds so lets go to the others. Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano who I am huge fan of, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller, Leslie Uggams and Karan Soni are excellent. I think there was no bad performance. The humor is as expected, dark, satirical, self aware and respectless. It works really well. Overall this is a 10/10. Maybe it is a bit weaker but they put so much effort in this movie that a lower rating feels wrong. I recommend the movie for the humor, style and characters.

Sister Act8
Feb 5, 2023
A good comedy with a unique set up and one of Whoopi Goldbergs most memorable roles. It is the story of the lounge singer Deloris Wilson. After she witness accidentally the murder of an informant by her gangster boyfriend she is in great danger. They had to silence her as prosecution witness as quick as possible. To protect her she is send to a catholic convent by the police and has to pretend to be a nun. I stop here to avoid spoilers. A great set up to a hilarious situation. The story is really good and interesting. The humor works well in this fish out of water situation. The cast is excellent. Whoopi Goldberg is remembered well for her good performance but I have to praise a lot of the cats too as I think all the nuns like Kathy Smith, Mary Wickes, Maggie Smith and the others gave a great and believable performance. Another strength is the soundtrack. It won me over while I do not like songs like this. Overall this is a comedy I can recommend easily. It has a good story, a lot of humor and entertained me from start to finish.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever7
Feb 1, 2023
Not a bad movie but also not as awesome as the prequel. The story has a few weaknesses and Chadwick Boseman is deeply missed. Might sound too negative as the story was also never boring, I liked the cast, humour, climax and at the end I was entertained. I should also mentioned that neither Atlantis nor Namor are like the comic book sources but Tenoch Huerta sold me the character. Also you should know that Riri Williams is a red flag for Marvel comic readers. She should replace Ironman aka Tony Stark in the comics when Robert Downey Jr. made the character as popular as never before. It should not surprise that this was a bad idea that flopped. For me in this movie Riri Williams works well and I was invested. Dominique Thorne sold me the character. The overall story while entertaining has weaknesses. For example the reason for the conflict between the two factions is nonsensical. Even a below average leader should find better solutions as Namor and it blows the cover that protects his people better than anything else. I am a bit vague to avoid spoilers but you can easily guess what I meant The actors deliver a good performance. I like the old characters that returned and new ones introduced. I should also say it is not and I repeat not a woke abomination like some people say. Optically I like the style of the movie. The sets look beautiful, the costumes are excellent and the special effects work as always. Lastly I liked the action scenes and battles. Overall I give a 7/10 but think that without Black Panther 1 I would go higher. Worth watching.

Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan9
Jan 28, 2023
Genghis Khan is one of the most interesting historical figures in history and also polarising. He started in poverty and was a slave before becoming the legendary ruler. He killed more people than anyone before but also delivered an era of peace and prosperity historians call “Pax Mongolia”. He ended slavery and the endless cycle of conflict between the clans while also taking care that no widow or orphan is left in poverty. The movie tells the story from Genghis Khan (aka Temüjin back then) from his childhood to the end of the struggles with his blood brother and biggest rival Jamukha in flashbacks. I read that it was planned as trilogy so this is just the first part. Sadly it flopped at the box office so this will never be continued. Like I said his life is remarkable and could not be better invented by Hollywood even back then when they knew how to make compelling movies. As a warning: I could not tell how historical accurate it is. However it is entertaining and enjoyable. We got a really talented cast of actors that fully deliver their roles. This extents to the team behind the screen as the movie is excellent. I see no missteps here. Overall this is one of the good movies that far too less people watched to get a sequel. I give a 9/10 and recommendation. Bonus knowledge: The YouTube channel “Extra Credits” made a nice series about Genghis Khans life I would recommend. They tell history with humour and great details.

The Muppet Christmas Carol10
Jan 24, 2023
An adaptation of Charles **** “A Christmas Carol” garnered with the Muppets. The strengths are that it is a great adaptation with actors that fully deliver and that the Muppets add a lot to the movie. Each part complements the other and I did not expect that. “A Christmas Carol” by Charles **** is a timeless classic. The story of Ebenezer Scrooge is probably so famous that anyone knows it, have read it or seen/ listen an adaption. It is a story about the true values of Christmas, self reflection and being a better person. The Muppets also don’t need any introduction. Who does not know Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and all the others. The story itself follows the events of the book really accurate and like I said the Muppets addition to the story as characters works far better then I would have imagined. The humor adds to the enjoyment of the story and movie. The human actors fully deliver and I will praise Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge for an amazing performance. The puppetry for the Muppets is also great and they create immersion and emotions. Practical effects are sometimes far better than CGI. Overall this is an amazing movie and I don't know why it is forgotten even on Christmas. Worth to rewatch in the holiday times.

Willow8
Jan 22, 2023
A nice fantasy movie based on a story from George Lucas. It might not be “Lord of the Rings” but is entertaining and has good humor. The story starts with a prophecy that the evil sorceress queen Bavmorda will be defeated by a child bearing a birthmark. Terrified by this she imprisoned all pregnant woman in her realm and observed all born children. When the child is born the mother convinces the midwife to smuggle the kid out. By circumstances it lands at an unlikely hero the Nelwyn Willow (Nelwyn are Hobbits or dwarves of this world). With that the adventure begins. Like I said it might not be a masterpiece but is entertaining, immersive and enjoyable. The story starts a bit slower to be fair but the later 3 quarters are satisfying. A fine journey with a lot of character development. The actors are well chosen. Warwick Davis is amazing as Willow and makes a great heroes journey. Val Kilmer as Madmartigan is a great unwilling hero and has also a good chemistry with an also really great Joanne Whalley as Shorsha. For the side characters I would praise Billy Barty, Mark Northover and the 2 brownies played by Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton. A good cast for a fantasy movie. The humor is also excellent but it takes a while before they start to add a bit to the story. The special effects were nice for the time and budget but aged not that well (Not awful but cant keep up). The soundtrack is sneakingly good. I barely noticed how fitting it is. Not that I would buy it but definitely good. Overall I give an 8/10 and would recommend it. Worth watching but misses to be a classic.

A Few Good Men10
Jan 20, 2023
A great legal drama I see as cult classic. It has a great story, strong actors and an interesting moral / legal dilemma. The story evolves around an incident at the Guantanmo Bay Naval base in Cuba. A US Marine died after being attacked by two fellow Marines. However this could been ordered by an Officer as a Code Red that went wrong. A Code Red is a violent (extrajudicial) punishment inside the military. As sidenote: By research I found out it seems those really exist but were called “Blanket party”. Back to the movie. It is the task of 2 JAG lawyers to defend the suspects and find out the truth. I stop here to avoid spoilers. The story is immersive, has good twists and kept me engaged for the whole time. I normally do neither like or hate legal dramas but this one is a must see. A lot of my enjoyment aside the story and moral dilemma came from the actors. Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nicholsen are amazing. But it ends not there as we got also Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollack and a lot of other talented actors. The combination **** story and actors that fully deliver is a true strength. I think I have said enough. Overall I give a 10/10 because of the high entertainment value, great story and well performing actors. I do not know why this movie is a bit forgotten today.
