It is still zippy and enjoyable enough -with touchscreen mini-games for purifying and Soultimates- but strikes an awkward middle-ground where combat isn’t involved enough for more experienced players, but is chaotic enough with its machinations to befuddle newcomers.

Thanks to a thoughtful, witty localisation, Yo-Kai Watch proves to be a kids' game that's capable of winning over adult players, too. [July 2016, p.123]

An expertly paced and enjoyable Pokemon-like RPG, tailored beautifully for younger audiences. [June 2016, p.68]

Yo-kai Watch was a breath of fresh air. It was a great competitor to Pokémon. The story is quite engaging, but it's secondary to the overall game. The story centers on Nate Adams, who finds the Yo-kai Watch, a watch that allows him to see these spirits called Yo-kai. Throughout the game, we'll be tasked with capturing as many Yo-kai as possible. They're all very original and based on local folklore. The game's flaws are:1) Side quests are quite monotonous.2) Battles can be too easy and boring, due to the combat system.3) Some Yo-kai are simply recolors of previously seen ones.Despite these small flaws, I highly recommend everyone try this gem.

With its fantastic soundtrack, gorgeous visuals and sky high production values, Yo-Kai Watch belies its years to deliver one of the better looking game on the Nintendo 3DS. It’s unlikely to match Pokémon’s success in the West, but judged upon its own merits, this is one of the better 3DS games released in the last few years and a genuine match for the ever-popular Pokémon franchise.

Yo-kai Watch is a story-driven JRPG with one of the funniest, detailed and rich universes we've ever played, with a tons of quests and secrets waiting to be discovered. Be sure to wear your nostalgic shorts, before jumping in the life of a kid who's about to live the most exciting adventure of his life.

Yo-kai Watch is a great adventure, fun, addictive and very interesting. We don't know if it's going to be the next Pokémon, but the foundations are solid enough to reach similar levels of popularity.

Yo-Kai watch might seem like another Pokemon clone, but it's anything but. Don't be fooled by its kid-friendly nature; it's charming, endearing, and one of the best 3DS games of the year.

With a combat system that really shines during the slower-paced, strategic boss battles, Level-5 has created a game that's successful in its own right, and not just as an advertisement for a broader product line.

Ultimately the appeal of Yo-Kai Watch will depend heavily on you as a gamer. If you’re interested in a light JRPG with a twist on standard turn-based mechanics, you will find Yo-Kai Watch to be a delight. If you’re looking for something deeper, you might want to stick with Pokémon.

Yo-Kai Watch's main story can easily be completed in under twenty hours, though there's quite the meaty postgame for those who are enamored with the gameplay.

this is the beginning of an **** kai watch started the best franchise of monster collector games. since the first game we all already knew this was going to be a goated franchise.
the amazing bosses, the amazing story, the almost endless content. it's unbelivable that a game with this much content runs on the 3ds.
there are almost no bad things

It's not a bad game, but its nothing to write home about. The game play mostly consists of looking for bad yo-kai with casper the ghost, than when you find them you pretty much use sesame street characters rip-offs to fight other sesame street characters. The battles mostly consists of tapping the screen like you have parkinson's, while some stratedge is involved it gets old real fast. this game barely has a story, its mostly about stopping yo-kai from messing around. other than the graphics and some mechanics this game surely is nothing special. (it's nothing like pokemon, don't get that idea, aside from the battling which is still very different in the two games)

I really enjoyed the game but the RNG ruins it, Just spent an hour trying to befriend a yo kai with no luck at all. Pros Music is nice Neat battle system Cons Befriending rate is awful Can only run for a limited time before slowing down
SummaryThe YO-KAI WATCH game is about hundreds of sometimes cute, sometimes spooky, and usually mischievous Yo-kai that inhabit our world. Yo-kai are not ghosts, monsters or creatures. Yo-kai are, quite simply, Yo-kai. They cannot be seen by the human eye, but they are everywhere. Whether born from the soul of a deceased human, or an everyday o... Read More
