Give me a well-told story I can run through a few times as opposed to something more epic that I can barely get through once and you’ll have my heart – Frogwares certainly does. I dove into the The Sinking City 2 with a good amount of trepidation, and whilst I do hope Frogwares get the chance to revisit their earlier style at some point, in the end they made the right Call…(of Cthulhu).

Plenty of people won’t agree with Frogwares’ decision to relegate investigations to an optional component, but as someone who enjoyed them in the first game, The Sinking City 2 works better as a survival horror game. It may follow a proven gameplay blueprint, but Frogwares has crafted a tense, confident and satisfying experience with The Sinking City 2, with only a few minor annoyances stopping it from being in the same conversation as the games that inspired it.

The Sinking City 2 Review: utterly fantastic Lovecraftian experience. Very dark. Very brooding. But very fun. Plays like a great Resident Evil clone. I really loved playing this!

Sinking City 2 really has a character of its own. Yes, it’s the same genre as Resident Evil, but that’s like comparing Indiana Jones to Call of Duty — they may share some elements, but the overall experience is completely different. It’s a very worthy survival horror game with its own unique ideas and interesting mechanics. If you like Resident Evil, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. And honestly, the atmosphere here might even surpass that of most Resident Evil games.

The Sinking City 2 effectively brings together Frogwares' well-honed, Lovecraftian world and a swathe of clear survival horror influences. There's little here that's groundbreaking, but the feeling of craft, of earnest-ness and passion for human storytelling is evident all the way through.

The Sinking City 2 is survival horror by the book. Puzzles, constant tension and a good dose of Lovecraftian cosmic horror. A sequel that builds on what worked in the original game and refines it with a much more focused approach.

The Sinking City 2 is a confident adventure that can go tentacle to tentacle with modern survival horror like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The odd misstep is forgiven when Lovecraftian twists work so well to deliver some unsettling, unexpected moments of terror that just feel oh so joyous to squeal at.

Frogwares' turn toward the survival horror genre, after many years of making adventure games, proves to be a welcome change. The Sinking City 2 doesn't try to bring any kind of evolution to the genre, however, the developers know very well how to hit the right notes to create a proper and satisfying survival horror experience. Next time, we hope they have enough confidence to bring their own unique ideas to the gameplay or world design, but as a first effort, it is commendable and will surely be appreciated by fans of the genre.

Generous doses of squishy gallows humour, elaborate secrets and expert tension pick up the slack. As does writing that skirts the grim glorification of overt war allegory to tell a story about refusing to leave what you love in the rubble, so long as the faintest signs of life remain. If you’re going to create, wrote Bukowski, you’ll do it “while the whole city trembles in earthquake, bombardment, flood and fire”. And there’s me thinking he was being dramatic.

Que venha o próximo the sinking city.

It doesn’t bring over anything that made the first game any good, It does improve on level design, gunplay and resource management. But it doesn’t really do anything as well as other franchises in survival horror. It really didn’t even feel lovecraftian most of the time. If you want either survival horror or a lovecraft experience, this is not it.

FROM DETECTIVE INVESTIGATIVE BEAUTY TO A SURVIVAL HORROR CLONE! I'm so sick of developers thinking they need to leech off other games in order to keep fans. I won't be surprised if the developers of Sinking City 2 get sued by the Resident Evil Franchise. Everything is the same. The exploding polyps, the sudden awakening, the different forms each one less human, the trying to save a loved one, the special fog, the limited inventory, the limited resources, and the ganging up enemies. I cannot see a single thing they took from the original Sinking City except for the fact that it has to do with the sea. Now judging it as its own game. The main character is clueless and weak. The controls are slow and so frustrating. The inventory is so limited and the expansions don't come easy. Even the original resident evil was more forgiving. The sounds were taken directly from resident evil so I can't grade them. The visuals were very subpar. It does not look much different than the first one. Definitely not 2026 quality. The map is vague and you will get lost or confused on what to do next or even your current objective. I have no idea why this game is getting any praise. If we put up with these survival horror clones they will keep making them and forget about trying something new. They owe us more than that. So take a stand and actually admit when developers completely destroy the original work of art that made them famous to begin with. Save your money! There are no physical copies so I can't get my money back by selling this or anything. I'm stuck with it for life. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
