The Forest (2014)

The Forest is an awkward open-world survival game. It's thrilling to play because of the intense atmosphere, but confusing maps and annoying enemies make it really hard for me to immerse into the game.

Jank and sometimes dumb mutant cannibals aside, what Endnight Games accomplished with The Forest with only a team of four people is simply extraordinary. It's one of the best survival games I've played in recent memory.

For most of them, survival games shipped as « early access » are mediocre, at best. But The Forest isn’t one of them: it’s a deep, finely tuned game which is never afraid to brutalise the player.

In a crowded landscape littered with a few too many survival crafting games, The Forest makes a pretty strong case for itself. With an open-ended world balanced by a story that moves forward, The Forest contains both freedom and mounting tension and provides not just the means for the player to survive, but a compelling reason to do so.

If you were already tired of fighting horrendous mutants, the alternative ending is the only valid reason to return to the forest. If, on the contrary, you have lived under a rock until now and you missed it, we warmly invite you to pack and board ... but watch out for the turmoil!

The Forest is a great survival game, particularly recommended for those who enjoy crafting and would like to discover a story as they survive.

Fun with friends, but you couldn't pay me to play this game ALONE. Even with just 1-3 people in a lobby felt overwhelming to complete everything. Would recommend this game to play with Large groups, as it goes up to 8 players

Alleine spielen lohnt sich einfach nicht. Wenn man nur die Haupstory spielt und mit keinem sonst dabei redet, ist es ziemlich erniedrigend. Ich habe das Spiel zuletzt im August 2020 gespielt, auch wenn es 2014 rauskam, irgendwie hat es mich bis dato nie wirklich gecatcht. Und wenn ich mal Lust empfunden habe, das Game zu spielen, dann bin ich einfach nur doof rumgelaufen und habe Stöcker gesammelt, eine Hütte gebaut, bissl Feuer gemacht und gepennt. Irgendwann hab ich Timmy gefunden und dann war Ende. Apropos Ende... ich fand das total bescheuert. Vielleicht hätte ich einen Spielfreund zu der Zeit gebraucht, um richtig reinzufinden... aber sollen Games, die auch eine Story haben, nicht allgemein auch Solo Spaß machen? Für mich, kriegt das Game nur eine 4 von 10 mayfusion points
