An astoundingly good debut on the PS4: because Insomniac knows what makes these games work, and they realized that they didn't need to overhaul them from the ground up to make them work on a new system, too.

Ratchet and Clank makes the rest of the current-gen remasters looks lazy, by rebuilding the original game from the ground up and delivering a hilarious adventure full of enormous guns.

C’est juste le meilleur jeu jamais créé en terme de fun pure. Les armes et le ressenti manette en mains sont inégalables

This is probably the greatest game of all time. This is so good that, compared to a good game like Super Mario Maker 2, which itself is an 8/10, it's like comparing the 2025 Colorado Rockies to the 2025 Los Angeles Dodgers. That's how good this game is.

Ratchet & Clank boisterously raises the bar for all the remakes to come: a lot of new planets to explore, new weapons, and a wonderful and uber-polished porting. A genuinely fun experience from start to finish, one we definitely recommend to all PS4 owners.

Insomniac Games did not just remake this classic platformer. They boldly bombarded it with ideas and then rebuilt it pixel by pixel using methods unknown 13 years ago. The result is magnificent. [06/2016, p.50]

Ratchet & Clank are back with a great example of what a remake should be. Fun, engaging and visually stunning, this new episode is a great experience for everyone.

Ratchet & Clank on PS4 is a beautifully remaking of the first episode of the series, adding some features from the other episodes and some sequences from the new movie, and the result is just excellent.

It's not taxing or provocative, it will leave you neither upset nor elated; it simply wants to give you a good time. Sometimes that's enough. [June 2016, p.114]

The biggest sin of R&C 2016 is being a movie tie-in game for a franchise that’s been exceptionally original and creative since its inception. It’s almost heartbreaking, honestly. The story of this “reboot” has no soul. It has no cohesion, no pacing. It almost has no concrete plot, and it ends on an incredibly abrupt, unfinished, unsatisfying note. The original focused on the relationship between the duo, and how it develops into an unbreakable bond; the reboot on the other hand throws all of that out of the window by assassinating Ratchet’s character in favor of some completely irrelevant side characters that are shallowly put on the spotlight. It depicts Ratchet as some sort of nerd, obsessed with celebrity culture, thirsting to be seen and worshipped by everyone. The original Ratchet would never care about any of this. The first game was T rated and as a result, it had plenty of crude jokes and puns that made dialogue super entertaining, whereas this one, being the E rated game that it is, treats the audience like children with its incredibly safe, borderline hipster, Reddit-tier humor. Onto some of the good stuff: the visuals are looking good, the controls are fluid, the voice acting is decent, the music lacks the funky punch that the original packed, but it’s not exactly awful either, the combat is fine, though it’s far less methodical than the original; it feels more like a generic, take out everything in your vicinity type of third person shooter than what the original offered: a more modest gameplay. It’s not a bad game at all, and I had a blast playing through it twice, it’s just super disappointing when contrasting it with the original which is the more memorable, defining experience that will no doubt continue to age gracefully.

One of my biggest disappointement ever.
As a fight of the original, I can share the fact everything here is done better in the orginal PS2 game: the story and characters are far better and memorable, the gameplay is snippier and less "mindless", the worlds & game designs choices way more interesting etc. The game is still fun to play "as it" and has great graphics but ... it's very disappointing to see the original game ideas becoming to "blend" in the 2016 remake. It is probably the only R&C game I will never replay.

What a disappointment, this game is nothing more than an underwhelming "Remake" of the original game, that feels very lazy and rushed. It honestly plays like an outdated PlayStation 3 game, the visuals are beautiful, but the controls and core gameplay are bland. Even though it does get better as you unlock more weapons, something feels off, the movement is kind of clunky and doesn't match well with how fast paced the action is. The story is incredibly boring, it's the most basic and uninteresting story that tries to be something bigger but ultimately falls flat by the very choppy pacing, and what the hell is wrong with these cutscenes that were taken from the movie, they are so out of place and very abrupt, it's like they don't even belong in the game. The planets look great but there's not much to do in them, there are some mini games and I did enjoy few of them but I never felt motivated to genuinely explore and get lost, it's a very linear experience. The best thing about the game is the environment and the graphics, the game looks really good for most of the time like an animated movie for children, but that's the only thing that truly impressed me. As for the puzzles... uhhh well, nope, I didn't really enjoy them, fortunately there aren't many of them, it's just that they could've been shorter because they slow down the action. Also I just wanna point out that I didn't even laugh a single time throughout the entirety of the game, in fact I forgot I was supposed to laugh, the jokes don't land at all, they're embarrassing and very cringe. It's barely a mediocre game in my opinion, it's right below average with few redeeming qualities, but it could have been significantly better. It's just not fun for me, and I can't help but feel unsatisfied, granted I do think that some people might enjoy it more than I did, because I was left severely disappointed. Final Rating: "Weak" ~ 4/10.
