If there was ever a game deserving of the word beautiful in it's description, it's Journey. The game is stunning to look at, satisfying to play and oozes atmosphere from every angle of its dynamic story and immersive world. Sure it's short by regular game standards but Journey is not a regular game. If your ready for an experience that will surprise you, move you and stick with you for many years after its done, then maybe this is the Journey for you.

Clever, emotive, and easily the best downloadable game so far this year. [June 2012, p.58]

A beautiful and bittersweet journey. The music is GORGEOUS and adds so much to the experience, and the story is simple, but touches on such a huge subject. It's a story about life, not just about the struggles that it brings, but the magic of it. About how we start off, weak and curious, and as we progress, experience hardship but never stop trying.
And most of all, about the journey that is life. How life begins and ends. Life is an eternal cycle, and where one journey ends, it begins completely anew. Just so good. Few words, but many emotions.

Less **** and more of an interactive piece of art. It's absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. Yes, it's super short, but the journey (pun intended) is so beautiful that you won't even mind. Highly recommend.

More of an emotional journey than a game. So little, yet so intense. It says so much without a single word. There's no traditional storytelling; the environment, music and sound design are all you need. For what it's trying to do Journey does it the best.

Anyone who loved Team Ico's games or thatgamecompany's other efforts like fl0w and Flower will love this – it's easily worth the $15 asking price.

Journey is short, very short, clocking in at a little over an hour. But that hour is an hour of unique and magical experiences.

Once in a while a game comes along that makes you proud to be a gamer. It's the kind of game you want to show your parents to prove to them that it's not all explosions and fast cars. It's the kind of game that you want to tell Roger Ebert to go play after he makes inflammatory statements about how video games can never be art. And it's the kind of game that given the right platform and exposure, has the potential to resonate with an audience that doesn't usually care about games. Journey is one of those games.

My gaming tastes are such that I'm perfectly conditioned to fall in love with something like Journey. Keep that in mind - if you're more about visceral action or epic 40-hour experiences, you should possibly look elsewhere. But in my opinion, this is one of the best games out there that can provide you with an experience - and a memorable, highly positive one at that.

It mostly reminded me of some of the dull and barely interactive bits of Uncharted 3. I think the lesson here is that deserts are often poorly suited to games without dune buggies...There's no challenge and no real gameplay, which isn't necessarily a criticism. It's sort of like Shadow of the Colossus without any colossi, or Ico without the little girl.

A brilliant trip into an interactive painting - Journey might just be the gold standard in this visual-audio focused genre of games short on words, but vast in their emotional resonance. This game has no low points across its short runtime, offering you only the best in atmosphere and music, while subtly intriguing you with its minimalist story. If there ever was a perfect game, Journey would be one of them. While it might not be lifechanging, it is life-affirming, offering many of the core elements that resonate deeply with your emotions, giving you a memorable experience you'll want to revisit whenever you need to relax. Games like these succeed both because and in spite of their simplicity, and Journey succeeds better than most.

I will give this game the credit it is due: It is utterly gorgeous. I have yet to see more impressive visuals (that aren't pre-rendered cut scenes.) I truly understand why so many people seem to be gob-smacked by this game. The play style is also a breath of fresh air, so different from many other titles out there and not afraid to be a bit different. With that said, it took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on. There is no spoken or text narration. The game is narrated by the visuals (would have been nice if that was more obvious from the start.) At first the game feels a little directionless with little point to it just allot of "Ooooo, pretty colors" moments. But as you scurry along you realize that you are involuntarily following a predetermined path. It felt pretty cool at first as the game does mask its linearity pretty well, but once you notice it, you notice it (only a spoiler if you're a complete moron.) If anything, Journey is nothing more than an interactive visual tech demo in a sort of storybook-ish format. Overall: I do have to say that this game is highly overrated for what it is when looked at as a game. But still, it is gorgeous and does deserve recognition for that alone, it's just a real shame that there isn't more to it.

I'm glad this game exists because it was a massive inspiration for countless games that followed. The game itself, however, is nothing more than a glorified tech demo.

It's pretty and the music is great, but my god is it boring. I actually fell asleep 20 minutes in the first play through. My online friends gushed about the online co-op mode, but everyone who joined my game would just run around randomly.
SummaryEnter the world of Journey, the third game from indie developers thatgamecompany (creators of "flOw" and "Flower"). Journey is an interactive parable, an anonymous online adventure to experience a person’s life passage and their intersections with other’s. You wake alone and surrounded by miles of burning, sprawling desert, and soon disc... Read More
