Once you start this one you'll have a hard time putting it down - I found myself playing longer just to see the next weapon upgrade I'd get - it's like Christmas all over again!
I don’t think you have to be into platformer’s to enjoy this game which shows how much depth it offers - liked the first one? You’ll love the second!
The controls, the learning curve, the difficulty, and the story all make this game possible to be enjoyed by gamers of almost any age without feeling overwhelmed or underwhelmed. I seriously can't say enough good things about this game.

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando is a true evolution of the previous game. It significantly improves the gameplay, graphics, and soundtrack. While the first game didn’t age particularly well in my opinion, the sequel still feels very playable today and shows how much the series improved in such a short time.

[ENG] Score: 9.8/10 Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando is one of those rare sequels that doesn’t just improve on the originalit perfects it. The introduction of strafe controls completely transforms combat, turning encounters into fast, skill-based shootouts that still feel smooth and accessible. Weapon variety is absurdly rich, and the upgrade system based on actual weapon usage makes progression addictive and deeply satisfying. Watching weapons evolve into Mega and Ultra versions in Challenge Mode is pure dopamine. Content-wise, the game is overflowing: arenas, space combat, hoverbike races, Giant Clank battles, side activities, collectibles, gadgets, armor sets, and a fully realized Challenge Mode that meaningfully changes how you play. Very few PS2-era action platformers offered this level of quantity AND quality. Boss fights are memorable and mechanically varied, especially the Protopet finale, which hits harder emotionally if you grew up with the game. The humor lands, the universe feels alive, and the constant sense of progression keeps you hooked from start to finish. Yes, the story is mostly functional and the antagonist isn’t particularly deep but that barely matters when the gameplay loop is this polished, fun, and rewarding.Going Commando isn’t just one of the best Ratchet & Clank ****’s one of the best action-platformers of its generation. A masterpiece.

Ratchet & Clank 2 is not just a sequel—it’s the game that redefined the entire franchise. Insomniac took the solid foundation of the first title and elevated it with bold innovations that transformed the series into a true action-platforming juggernaut. Why It’s a Masterpiece RPG Elements: The introduction of weapon upgrades and experience systems added depth and replayability, making progression feel rewarding and personal.Expanded Gameplay: New mechanics like space combat and more varied mission structures gave players unprecedented freedom and variety.Polish & Balance: Every planet feels meticulously crafted, with tighter pacing and smoother difficulty curves compared to the original. Humor & Storytelling: The witty writing and memorable characters cemented the franchise’s unique identity, blending comedy with genuine adventure. LegacyThis was the turning point where Ratchet & Clank evolved from a fun platformer into a saga with lasting impact. The innovations introduced here became staples of the series and set a new standard for action-platformers as a whole. Final Verdict: Ratchet & Clank 2 is a landmark achievement—an ambitious sequel that dared to innovate and succeeded brilliantly. It remains one of the most enjoyable and influential entries in the saga, a true masterpiece that still feels fresh today.

Electronic Gaming Monthly
The level design is brilliant, the weapons combat is a freakin' blast, the subtle tweaks really do change everything, and the characters are more appealing than the last go-round. [Dec 2003, p.218]

Game Over Online
There's a lot to do here. Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando is perched weirdly on the boundary between 3D platformer and third-person shooter; it's not entirely comfortable, but it's still a lot of fun.

When you throw in the graphics, the jokes and the ever-changing landscapes, you're left with something that's impossible to dislike.

The key word here is definitely 'more'; more weapons, more gadgets, more planets and plenty more instances where the platform-based exploration takes a back seat in favour of what can only be described as mini-games that try desperately to integrate themselves into the rest of the game. This game is an 8.5/10 for its time. I played the remastered version ps3 collection version and had a lot of fun. The combat is great, the graphics have held up extremely well, also the game is hilarious. I also really enjoyed buying and upgrading Ratchets collection of weapons that suit many different playstyles. However, if I hold it to modern standards I'd say its a 7/10 Unfortunately the camera is a bit janky but a huge improvement from the first game with the inclusion of strafing. The first game is unplayable IMO because of how bad the camera is. The janky camera for me in Going Commando just a minor annoyance but I understand the game is a product of its time. I found most of the side activities aside from the combat arena (racing and ship battles) tedious, although I enjoyed exploring the planets main and alternate routes. Also, some of the boss fights near the end of the game are annoyingly bullet spongey but not very difficult (mainly mech guy you need to kill with the turret and clanks final mech battle) This just made it feel like a very lame way of padding some of the boss fights. Aside from these nitpicks its a great game. I defiantly recommend it.

This game's great. But I have a list of issues with this one. The checkpoints are egregious. Spending a good amount of time fighting, make it far, die once, do it all over again from the beginning. The weapons are insanely overpriced, i don't how they expect you to get them without spending multiple hours grinding. The spaceship fight with the re spawning repair droids, like why. The giant mecha clank fights, i hate them, you take so much damage in seconds but the boss barely takes a hit. I love how there is an insane amount of content in this game. Best soundtrack in the series though. The story is good, but the other 2 trilogy ones are better.
