Puzzles are too child-friendly, their solutions more fiddly than mentally taxing. The pleasure earned from cracking Miymoto’s designs is instead targeted by flashy 2.5D level design – snaking sights that admittedly look wonderfully crisp on Wii – and set-pieces for the impatient. [Mar 2009, p.95]

Hopefully Klonoa will not always be that forgot platformer with that mascot that Namco failed to make the next Pac-man. It maybe a bit childish at times, but under that is a lot of cool ideas for levels and gameplay. There really is something cool about platforming pathways interacting with both the front, side, and background, and using enemies to jump in midair never really seems to get old. If you ever get the chance, Klonoa will be fun little short fair ****, but it will be something to remember.

Amazing platformer that is as fun and good-looking as ever. The gameplay is well structured and offers the right amount of challenge. It’s a bit too cute for its own good, but it’s worth every second of your time.

This is a game that is filled with a simple yet endearing story, excellent game mechanics, eye-popping visuals, a challenging collection element, and a surprisingly bittersweet ending that will make you want to play it all over again, especially to see the once-static cinematics recreated in full 3D. Klonoa is one of the best platforming games of all time and this is a superior remake of an already flawless original.

Klonoa is a very nice 2.5D game with fresh ideas! It has very cute characters and a story that fells like a tale. The Levels are very well designed as well. In these Levels you sometimes actually have to use your enemies to succeed. You can use your them for example to jump over a hole that's so big, that you couldn't jump over yourself. You also can or even need to use little enemies to defeat very big and too strong enemies, so it has pretty smart gameplay mechanichs. All in all I had a great time with this game and it was so great, that I played it multiple times. :)

This game should receive as much love and care as the 2nd game and that game was perfect and so was this amazing and perfect platformer with amazing gameplay.

Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile is a polished version of a 2D-platformer that was released on the Playstation more than a decade ago. The gameplay is simple, well structured and offers just the right amount of challenge. Klonoa isn't one of the lengthiest games, but looks and plays great.

In the end, Klonoa is a fantastic game that unfortunately suffers from a high degree of difficulty.

Fun but short, magic but easy ... Klonoa jumps into Wii to become one of the best platform-games in 2.5D of the console. Jumps, colour and funny dreams for everyone, although it only lasts for the length of a nap.

Despite all of these complaints, I can see fans of the original game enjoying this revival. It’s faithful to a fault, and I can think of plenty of older niche games that I would love to see get similar treatment. But if you’ve got no connection to the original, you’ll likely wonder what all of the fuss is about.

[This is a review for the PSX version of this game because there's no data for that version.] I didn't know anything about Klonoa before I played Door to Phantomile, but it sure was a great surprise. I enjoyed my time so much even when is roughly 5 hours long, it's kind of easy but has some difficulty spikes here and there that maintains you well entertained, the platforming is very good and simple, you don't have powerups so it's only you and the gameplay but there is a lot of versatility to Klonoa's movements that keep things fresh, even by the last level. Aside from the platforming, there are 2 other things that make this an amazing game, one is the music which is gorgeous and adds a lot of depth to the dreamy mood of the game, and second is the story, I didn't know that by the end I will be so moved by the characters and everything, also the writing is very good and charming, even the "voice acting" which is very similar to Banjo Kazooie (I know that Banjo came after but is just for reference) has a lot of heart, it's like a grandma fairytale but with some stakes. I recommend Klonoa Door to Phantomile to anybody, is a very fast and enjoyable ride that can give you more than you think.

An underrated game. Almost everything about it is great. Great graphics, great gameplay, great story, great music, great controls. I personally didn't mind the voice acting, but if you don't like it, you can set it to a gibberish-like language in the options menu. My only complaint is that the game is a bit too short, averaging around 3-5 hours for the main game, but the fact that there's stuff to do after you beat the game makes up for it. This is a remake of a PS1 game, and a great one at that.
