I played the Xbox 360 version of "Gunstar Heroes" which lacks the 3D of the 3DS conversion. It's a Sega Genesis classic that holds up. This two-player side-scrolling shooter is reminiscent of "Contra". The stages are colorful and the boss fights are challenging. Like in "Mega Man", you can select the stages in any order and the final one combines boss fights with light puzzle solving. It might be a bit dated, but it's still fun. I'd rate it with a 8 out of 10.

Не понимаю восторгов по поводу этой игры. Обычная бюджетная Contra и эта бюджетность прям сразу бросается в глаза: визуальный стиль, анимации, дизайн уровней. Не понимаю, как можно называть эту игру, одной из самых лучших и технологически продвинутых на SegaMD. Смешно. Музыка никакая и вообще не подходит к динамичному геймплею. Вот за динамику можно похвалить, но я чуть не помер со скуки пока проходил =)

Every Sega/M2 3D Classic collaboration to date has demonstrated incredible love and care, even for mediocre games like Altered Beast. That same devotion applied to a top-tier masterpiece makes for an essential addition to any 3DS. This is the 3D Classics game to get.

Another perfect conversion of a legendary game. Treasure was one of the stars of the Genesis/Megadrive, with classic games like Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and..... believe it or not..... McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure. Yes, that's right. They took a fast food pimping clown and made an amazing hidden gen platformer. That takes some skill and vision. Gunstar Heroes is an exhilarating run-n-gun explosionfest with customizable weapons. And explosions. Lots and lots of explosions. Did I mention the explosions? Because you're gonna see a lot of 'em. It's a shame this series ended after the second installment, with Gunstar Super Heroes for the GBA. But the good news as that it has a place in the M2 converted SEGA 3D Classics lineup. This is a seminal game, it's a blast to play, and all the tricks Treasure used to simulate 3D on the Genesis makes this version absolutely pop. Unless you hate retro games or SEGA in general, you'll have a blast playing this. Cannot recommend enough.

Gunstar Heroes is an absolute classic of the 16-bit era. I didn’t think it was possible to make the game better, but somehow M2 pulled it off.

3D Gunstar Heroes is a conversion that excels in every possible way. Not only it brings the original game in a perfectly playable way and without any traces of aging but it even improves it with its exquisite 3D effect. A real 16-bit classic that can be played again and again.

That said, this latest classic revamp on the 3DS eShop is certainly a enjoyable and it's tremendously rewarding to finally overcome its challenges.

For me, this game gets a way higher rating than the regular Virtual Console version, simply because it makes it easier by giving you an "almost god" mode. It also has an extremely easy "temp save" feature, so you don't have to play the stages over and over because they're too hard. And it's got really good 3D in it.

It's Gunstar Heroes, emulated and enhanced by M2, and in 3D. It's as good as that game's going to get, hand cramps on the 3DS aside! The sound is great (and there are the two different sound versions to choose from!), the quirky artwork and bosses are still there, and I think it still holds up well today. It's not a 2015 "10," but it's certainly a seminal retro game.
