Cool game destroyed by sheer stupidity of people designing battles during missions. Their receipt for fun: 1. Make player consecutively miss at 90% of CTH 2. Pit players against overwhelming odds, like 2 or 3 to 1 3. Make opponents almost never miss no matter the distance 4. Equip opponents with heavier weapons than what you can currently have 5. Make opponents focus fire on one target and give them higher initiative. Sure no problem in 6-8 consecutive attacks while you wait idly and watch your mech obliterated into pieces Pure fun. Old Mech Commander had a perfect balance, maps were intelligently designed. This developer lacks imagination and skill and sets the difficulty level at "almost impossible" by unfairly cranking up all parameters in the favor of opponents. Save yourself frustration, get trainers or mods which can fix the balance

I really want to like this game. I love the tabletop style mechanics and the whole lore thing but paradox refuses to fix the bugs in the game. First on convoy missions your convoy will get stuck out of your control and if you put into an hour of gaming and are completely successful you will fail and get no rewards basically. The second bug they have which they claim is not a bug is that the enemy, during ambushes, will get 2-3 turns before you can even move. This means 9-12 moves before you can even position any unit and defend any structure. A lot of the sub objectives are to make sure all buildings survive or all convey units survive but it’s virtually impossible when you can’t move your units for 9-12 turns. Now people say this is the initiative system but all my mech warriors are maxed out 10 and they still succumb to enemy ambushes and make the game a non-turn based strategy you don’t know the order until you have been fired upon or failed the mission. To me this mechanic is confusing and frustrating, however I believe it to be another bug as any game designer would have scrapped it.Makes the game unfair and when the games unfair I don’t want to play it. I’m amazed that an almost 10 year game is being charged for $50 approx I’m so glad I tried it first and I recommend trying before buying because if you fixed the bugs I would buy it but all I see on forums are excuses. Bad game don’t play

Pretty slow and boring to play imo. The story was kind of interesting though with the animations, however, there is also a lot of word dumping, and all the story aspects slow down gameplay moments where you actually get to play the game, as most of it so far is watching/reading. The graphics are also kind of bad and has poor optimization. It was fine for me as I have 9950x3d 5070ti but it could be struggling on older hardware when it shouldnt be with the simple **** me there is just so much other games of this genre type to try that are prob better. The fighting aspects were pretty slow too as all the animations cutscenes bog down the gameplay, maybe theres an option to skip? But I didnt look for it.

It is just a weaker Front Mission game, not terrible, just not as good. But if you are a fan of the franchise, you will probably enjoy it more.

Tout juste au dessus de la moyenne car assez dur sur le long terme et avec des succès trop longs ou durs à obtenir. Dans le fond le jeu est pas mal du tout à part ça

Do not like Dev's importing SJW culture values into games of stompy robots. Some things do not belong in video games.

There's a lot to like in HBS's Mecha manager, but the uneven presentation, poor explanation, heavy use of RNG in combat, and underwhelming basic structure shove Battletech a bit too far into "hardcore franchise/genre fans only" territory.

I love the Battletech/Mechwarrior lore and games. I've played them since MW2 including all the subsequent games. This one is a bust. The UI is clunky and the coding is very poorly optimized. It's atrocious. MW3 was the most playable version by far, but MW4 was more balanced. This game is clunky and slow for no good reason. The mechlab even lags. By far its biggest flaw is the atrociously awful coding - the game crawls and the graphics do not justify the huge resources it requires. I mean lagging in the mechlab is unacceptable in this day and age. It should respond instantly when I click from one tab to another. Another flaw is the turn-based concept. Mech Commander 2 was a top down RTS with pause and when you had pause, then you do not need turns - turns are just redundant when pause exists. However, I would guess that this game would not even run as an RTS due to the resource drain.

Easily the best battletech game I've played besides MWLL, it only really suffers if you play it to the point there is nothing else to do. That's where mods come in, specifically BTA3062 which is an amazing mod, that adds hundreds of hours of content.

I have played over 2000 hours of this game -- modded and unmodded. I just cannot get enough, and it never grows stale. That said, the AI is a bit weak, and head shots occur far too often. The AI issue is "balanced" by the game throwing tons of mechs at you. To counter head shots, get Cockpit Mods as soon as you can. I come to this from the original table top. So I like that it pays homage to that, while still keeping the game-play fresh. I tend to play the game 100% vanilla and un-modded. I find it more challenging that way. There is a very active mod community. So if the game isn't to your tastes as is, you an tweak it until it is.

I apolgize for kickstarted this. Sending 4 mechs vs full companys. Send 100 LRM vs a vehicle and it survives. Total RNG and they have no clue about the universe so a light spider have no problem taking down a heavy Atlas mech. Kickstarted battletech and bardstale and its only moneygrabs of old good IP´s.

Tedious repetitive gameplay paired with uninspired graphics and a throwaway storyline. This game takes everything that was amazing about the XCOM series and recreates it poorly.

The stars of the game are the mechs and the ability to customize them. Since launch a lot of the slow downs in the game have been corrected and the time between turns move faster. Overall, a great experience for fans of turn based strategy games.

This game is a repetitive slog, every mission is gain money to fund next mission and unlock new gear to literally do the same thing over again so you do not go bankrupt.. Yes its technically Battletech but with literally no soul and a huge hardcore grind.. A Mech gets destroyed weeks in repair bays, Mechwarriors (driver) get injured weeks in hospital, It just **** the fun out of the game, the missions are literally all the same and the difficulty is all over the place. The story is atypical and forgettable and so hidden inside the grind by the time you reach a story mission you've lost the will to care. Nothing like Mech Commander Gold which was an amazing game right through.

GrindTech might've been a better name for this game. It is repetition over and over, the attempted fix is a RNG that dramatically favors the computer opponent. You will hit a 20 ton mech ten times with skills in the 8s and 9s, and it will not die, then it will come up and headshot you with a single shot. This is something that's actually happened, numerous times, just read some posts on Reddit or Steam. This game really does nothing but anger me and the 20+ hours I spent playing it seem like a monumental waste of time. Paradox dropped this one on its head and it's not quite what it should be. Go somewhere else for a mech game, or tactical game for that matter, this game is just not what you're expecting. Fan boi's will upvote because "it's Battletech", but take it from me, a person who played every Battletech and Mechwarrior game ever released, this will only be a disappointment, and may ruin the entire franchise for you.

There is a lot of wonderful stuff in Battletech. The art direction is great, the scene setting, all the intricate details of managing your merc company are fun, outfitting and refitting mechs feels very involved. If you want to swap in a rocket launcher in place of laser, you need to pay for ammo/upgrades it'll take time, and you need to worry about weight/heat buildup, and it all feels great. There's so much detail that goes into building the world, and there are lots of small gameplay elements that help to build on that. The problem is that all of the scene-setting, music, and atmosphere are in service of weak core gameplay. Everything feels good until you drop into actual combat. The combat sequences are repetitive, and not much fun. The mechs are total bullet sponges, and you will waste 3-4 turns with four mechs just blasting away at a single enemy. Because of that, the tactical options are pretty limited: it's hard to execute a decisive ambush, hit-and-run isn't really viable, and usually it's best just to post up in an elevated position or a forest and out-shoot the enemy. Mechwarriors have few abilities, and they seem like pure buffs, so I don't know why you wouldn't use them. And there's no trade-off between moving or staying still. Like so many strategy games, there isn't much strategy in Battletech, and it's a shame that all the great elements serve such weak core gameplay.

Excellent game let down by a few flaws. Captures the atmosphere of the BattleTech universe. It's not a 100% direct port of the tabletop game but I think it's better for it. The campaign is fun, career mode gives immense replayability. Online skirmish mode is present but I haven't tried it. The biggest weakness are sometime slow loading and sluggish performance on large urban maps. After 850 hours of play time I've definitely got my money's worth from this.

Battletech is a fun turn based strategy game where you manage your crew. I beat the campaign in about 40 hours. Game(s) like: MechWarriors, XCom Pros: - The game and mechs looked great - Combat was fun especially the skills and ability to pinpoint shots - Weapons were intersesting as trying to build your mech was a huge part of the game for me Cons: - The battles got repetitive especially the non-story based ones. Would have preferred less sandbox battles and more streamlined story based ones. - The enemies and missions also didn't seem to have lots of variety after a while.

Entertaining, but all the game mechanics are fairly mediocre. I was definitely bored by the time I finished the campaign, with a constant tactic of strong mechs + long range weaponry + defensiveness and taking out enemies one by one.

Its not a bad game, but it is also far from perfect. Does not deserve any of the 0's and 10's in the reviews. I would say that at best, its a 7 and at its worst its a 4. Which means that overall, its actually not bad. Slightly above the 5 average. The good. If you love mechs, and strategic use of weapons and turn based strategy, you will probably get some enjoyment from this game. In my 1st play through, I enjoyed collecting the different mechs and trying different loadouts. it was fun trying to create a perfect team and some battles were really exciting. The story is linear but it wasnt bad or good. It just didnt pull me in nor did I feel attached to the characters in any way. This is not an RPG by any stretch of the imagination although you can level up pilots and assign skills from a very limited set of options. Still, it was good enough for me to finish the game and if you read my other reviews, you will know just rare that is. I dont finish games I dont like. The bad. As mentioned above, the story is detached and not immersive. Side missions are very repetitive and uninteresting. Clearly they are randomly generated. Battles take far too long to complete making the game drag far more than it should. A speed option for mech movement in combat would be nice to speed things up. Despite all the different mechs, variety is actually an illusion. There are only a few different effective ways to load out a mech and the only difference between classes is how much you can load onto it. Smaller mechs are far inferior to their larger counterparts and each mech does have a larger version. They might have different names, but its really just a change in mass. At least that is how it feels. Even though there might be 100 different mechs, there are really only 3 with an upgrade in each weight class. Its just a matter of finding the heavier one. There is no balance in favor of smaller mechs. They also need to add more depth to the characters more unique missions and a lot more weapon variety. Again, its not great game nor a bad game. Its above average. Fun for a while but drags about half way through with no improvement made towards end game except getting heavier mechs... Give it a shot if you are a mech fanatic and like TBS games.

A TBS with mechs, in Mech Commander-like setting, with clumsy controls and laggy everything. Pros: - selection of weapons on mechs - detailed graphics Cons: - trashy story which at least you can skip though. I'm so tired of these shovelware trash stories which the gaming industry never gets tired of producing. Can you please fire your writers and just make a game without a story? It's a waste of money to produce cutscenes and record dialog which I'll just always skip or try not to listen to. It's like, even before I see any tutorial, you already want me to drop your game in disgust - clunky controls - super-annoying camera which keeps moving around and removes the feeling of control - everything is slow: a few seconds waiting here, a few seconds there. That's because of all the unnecessary animations and constant movement of the camera which can't be controlled or turned off - the game is poorly optimized. On my new laptop (with specs enough to run VR games), in this game everything is just laggy. Especially annoying when the camera just doesn't want to hold still. Yes, that's your price of firtrees and other scenery which are completely unnecessary and just add visual clutter on the field This game basically reminds me why I should stick to indie games and avoid anything that's with 3D graphics or feels like it's based on a franchise. The developers are totally unaware of what TBS players want. They want interesting choices and quick, easy controls. Instead this game is just trying you tell you about some boilerplate sci-fi world and to watch laggy animations of mechs running and exploding. To think of it, this game would probably better work on consoles, or even on mobile. Just not sure that its clumsy graphics would work on Android phone where it belongs. It's like they wanted a game about mechs but some stupid boss told them to make it a TBS, and then they spent half the of their development time trying to hide the fact that it's a TBS because some abstract 10 y.o. boys from the projects might find it boring or something. What a mess ****...

A solid digital tactical experience that brings the essence of the tabletop and mechwarrior rpg to life. Strong initial campaign for single players, plus extremely mod friendly for retention value. 90/100 as it loses 10pts due to loading times and intermittent crashes, lack of co-op mode and remainder of inner sphere or unseen mecha.

They did many things right. Mainly the graphic, sound, music and animation. Basically all the "front side" of things. Just about everything else (the "back end") is clunky and feels incomplete however. You can read all about it in the negative reviews.

I learned not to trust paid reviewers, 100/100, 10/10 best game ever! So i got this, played a few hours and then uninstalled and refunded. -Tactics are bad, AI is bad, story is bad... -Mech animations look good for the first 1 hr of the game and then it gets old and the camera angles are horrible. -did i mention horrible camera angles? Cant even see your units moving. -takes 1 month to fix a mech but cant hire more technicians? maybe you can in the future but i uninstalled before that. -at least they tried, go buy and play shadowrun from this dev, a much better game....

Game has serious optimization issues. The manufacturer has also added pauses to aid in slowing things down. Add in the occasional crash, and very common lock up. This game plays like a 40 hour baseball game; doesn't matter how much you like baseball, it's painful at best. Add to this some very weak dialogue and questionable game mechanics and it's like a late 80's game. After playing a previous version where I could be a pilot in a mech, why would anyone want to be a main character who is basically an npc ? How are people giving this a 10?

This is the game that all the old-school Battletech players have waited decades for. It has an engrossing story and a sort of open world in which the player can fly off and take side jobs for cash and equipment while working for different factions. The simple fact that you don't have a time limit to complete the story missions means you are free to explore and enhance your skills and 'mech inventory before tackling the campaign missions. In fact, this is pretty much a requirement. If you progress in the story too fast without playing a lot of side mission in between, you'll quickly find yourself outgunned at every turn. So take off, explore, and then rain AC/20 fire upon your enemies with extreme prejudice!

After doing a full playthrough and a couple of partial playthroughs, my takeaway from Battletech is that it is an ok game with untapped potential. I quite enjoyed the story for it's narrative was strong, albeit a bit shallow. The game mechanics are alright too, as you do need to use your brain a little to manage your mercenary company and to triumph on the battlefield. However, the game does get incredibly boring after a while, for practically every battle is same. You move your mechs for a couple rounds, then you encounter a lance of mechs or vehicles. Then you probably encounter a second lance of mechs or vehicles depending on a dice roll, and if you survive that, you either shoot a few buildings, escort a few vehicles, and then rinse and repeat. It's ok for the first little bit, but then it gets incredibly, painfully, dull. I feel that if you had more options to field equipment such as vehicles, or even being able to field more than 4 mechs at a time, would break the monotony a little bit. A bit better mission design with a bit more variety would also be a benefit.

A half-cooked game. If you like turn strategy based games, with tons of variables, and slow paced, you'll like it. Also, if you're a fan of the franchise, I'm sure you'll forgive the changes compared with the board game as long as you can enjoy an animated combat after a long waiting. However, both the requirements and the price are absurd for what you get, and right now the game speed and loading time between turns are ridiculously high, having to powerless watch, mandatorily!, for a few seconds after each movement and shooting. And don't you dare to say that it's complicated to code the AI for a game like this. Mechcommander made an absolutely smooth gameplay twenty years ago, and Megamek has a far more complicated AI programmed in a few MB...

I want to like this game, but can't, this game is just a walking unfinished problem, you can stuck after mission in strange screen with flying ship, saves can just disappear, so you will lose 3-4 hour playthrough, with quite dated graphics, this game overheats machine which perfectly run on Ultra games like ARK:SE and FFXV without any problem, some missions can become unfinishable... And so on... In short, this game have all great things to destroy whole fun... So, before they will fix that - 0/10, gamebraking bugs and almost unplayable... After Shadowrun series, this product is Technical shame... P.S. - btw, do not upgrade Drivers, game have problems with new Nvidia set...

Haiku Review: Riding a giant mech / How many weapons will fit / The more missiles the better Favorite Thing: Controlling the loadouts for the mechs was really fun. Least Favorite Thing: I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the loading times. They're bad, really bad. Moving on. The game doesn't do a good job in making you feel like you're riding around in a giant mech. There isn't much in the game to make you appreciate their size. Date Completed: 2018-07-14 Playtime: ~ 68h Enjoyment: 8/10 Recommendation: Definitely. It's a really good turn-based tactical game.

Awesome game. You have many soo types of Mechs to play and customize as you see fit. There is alot of planets to visit, nothing that force you to do the campaign missions until you feel ready. Not sure why so many people hate it. Yes its a bit slow, but you can turn of all the camera actions and play it like any other turn based game. Im giving it a 10 because its the most fun i have had with a turn based game in years, and I love Mech' games. Don't listen to haters, the newest patch/update makes this game one of the best!

Pros: - Great turn-based tactical combat. - Extensive customisation of mechs is possible. - Decent graphics, music and voice-acting. - Story-line campaign is decent and provides a nice sense of direction, even though it limts your freedom early on. - Great portrayal of the BattleTech universe. Cons: - Important game concepts are not explained very well, and take a while to learn. - Difficulty can unexpectedly spike, though you get used to this and can withdraw from contract missions if required.

I think this game had a lot going for it but it messed up in the end. When you first start playing the idea of sending out mechs of missions is fun, new and exciting and you are able to build out your squad from downed mechs but what eventually happens is that you do the same tactics in every mission and there is no way around it. You find a spot of forest, put all your guys in it, let the enemy come to you while you shoot at them. Since you get a defensive bonus in the forest there is no reason not to do this and it is the only thing that grants any real bonuses that make it worthwhile. So in my option they could of done a bit more like xcom remake and make a lot more cover over the map (like ruined cities) or they could of made no/little forest cover and made it more mobile tactical.
