Marvel Rivals9

Honestly, one of the best multiplayer games I’ve played in a while. The art style and character designs are great. I love the destructible environments and the team-up abilities that add a new layer of teamwork. My only gripe is that the BP progression is a bit of a slog. There should be more ways to earn points for the battle pass. Other than that, this is a solid foundation and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Astro Bot10
Sep 7, 2024
Astro Bot is more than just a celebration of PlayStation’s history. It’s an amazing 3D platformer that finally realizes the promise of the Dualsense’s new features. And it does in some of the most creative and imaginative ways. When FF7 Rebirth came out earlier this year, I didn’t think there would be a game that can take the crown for this year’s GOTY from it. But imo, Astro Bot just did.

The gameplay is fun and very much improved from the first game, but where this game takes a step forward in gameplay, it takes a step back in story and side content. The story is a mixed bag of great moments and some “what were they thinking” moments. The side content is more “varied” this time around, but they are actually worse than the side activities from 2018 and MM. Not mentioning the lack of NG+ and other features that were present in MM. Overall, it’s just a very disappointing sequel to a game I actually really enjoyed playing.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth9
Jan 28, 2024
Let me start off by saying that locking NG+ is a really scummy move by Sega and should be held under scrutiny. It’s setting a bad precedent for the industry and hurts the reputation of the series. That being said, this game is 100% my GOTY. Everything is a major improvement from Yakuza: Like A Dragon, except maybe the story, but imo that’s a high bar.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered5
Jan 21, 2024
I’ve honestly never liked this game, but I want to rate this in terms of it being a remaster. I can’t complain about the price, because it’s only a $10 upgrade and $50 for people who have never played it. It certainly better priced than the Part I “remake”. That being said, I don’t know why this thing is called a remaster. The graphics really aren’t all that different and while the inclusion of a rogue like mode is appreciated, it should’ve been free like the God of War Valhalla DLC. At best, they should’ve labeled this as a Director’s Cut like with what Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima did. Anyways, still don’t care for the game, but I can see people wanting to upgrade to this remaster. Just don’t expect a major difference.

Elden Ring is a Masterpiece. Plain and simple. It’s everything FromSoft has learn from past games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. All poured into their magnum opus with an intriguing and imaginative world.

Genuinely one of my favorite experiences in the past 5 years. A wonderful metroidvania with great platformer control, a beautiful OST, and emotional story. What a great way to end off the Ori games.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales7

Good, but falls into the same pit as Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018). The same generic open world structure and repetitiveness, but with even less bang for your buck. I will say that the combat is much better now that you have more options.

Everything from the narrative, music, and gameplay is immaculate, but unfortunately this game falters in the performance and side quests. Still a good game, but it isn’t going to be for everyone.

Probably the best Resident Evil DLC since RE5’s Lost in Nightmares. Well paced, fun, and has great replay value. Very much worth the $10.

Is it at all surprising that this remaster is great? Metroid Prime is one of the greatest games ever made and this remaster just makes it look even better looking and with a better control scheme. What more could you want?

Dead Space10

This is a must have game for fans of both Sci-fi and horror. A brilliant remake of a survival horror classic. The new additions they added to the story, lore, gameplay, and level design feel so well integrated that you’d never think they were new additions. Motive should be really proud of what they have done here.

It’s not a 0/10 and it sure as hell is not a 10/10. That being said, this game is garbage. From its mediocre combat, empty open world, poorly written and acted dialogue, and generic by the numbers storytelling. It’s the definition of a soulless husk made to make as much money as possible. I can’t even say the graphics are great, because there are open world games like Horizon: Forbidden West and Spider-Man (a last gen game) that looks leagues better than this game. I guess if there are things I do like is the parkour system and auto looting (which almost every game like this should have) and there are areas that genuinely good to look at. But that’s about it for me. The worst part is the talk surrounding this game so disingenuous that I’m honestly concerned about how low the bar for quality has gotten, if people can excuse utter garbage like this.

Yeah, I hate this game. Which ****, because I love Dead Space and the people who made that made this game. First off is the combat. The gunplay itself is fine and the GRP is cool feature, but the melee combat in this game is absolutely clunky. Even if you are trying to run away from an enemy, if they attack you, you get locked into the melee animation and usually get hit. It’s frustrating, not to mention completely repetitive considering there isn’t a lot of enemy variety. The level design is boring as well. It’s completely linear which isn’t a totally bad thing, but besides some hazards they never do anything interesting with it. It doesn’t help that half the time you squeeze through corridors, crawling through vents, or climbing ladders. I will say though that the graphics and presentation are really great. The attention to is absolutely insane. I also love the atmosphere and vibe of the game. It does indeed remind me of Dead Space. The death animations are also really gory to the point where Japan had to ban the game from their country. That’s how you know it’s crazy violent. Now honestly this game would’ve been a 5/10, but what pisses me off the most is that the devs have the gall to leave the game on a cliffhanger for future DLC. You barely deserve the $70 and now you want extra $$$ to finish the story. Oh hell no. It’s not even that good of a story. It’s insanely predictable.

Horizon Forbidden West9
Feb 20, 2022
Horizon Forbidden West is what happens when you release a really great game next to a monument **** like Elden Ring. It also happened to games like Ori and the Will of the Wisps (my personal favorite game of 2020) and even Forbidden West’s predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn. While Forbidden West isn’t perfect, it’s definitely one of the best games of the year. The combat is some of the best I’ve seen in an open world setting, the open world is breathtaking and dense, and the characters are much more emotive and detailed which makes so much easier to connect to. Graphics usually aren’t really all that important to me, but… this game is absolutely amazing to look at. The only problems I have are the story. The first game had this story about humans triumphing over machines. It was pretty grounded in the only way that a story of people fighting robot dinosaurs can. Forbidden West gets really sci-fiy. I appreciate Guerilla raising the stakes, but it feels like it goes too far with it’s sci-fi nonsense.

One of the best sequels ever made. It ups the ante while keeping the tone of the original. The story and characters are so well-done. I was skeptical about Visceral giving Isaac a voice, but it feels so justified because of how likable his character is. The gameplay has way more options than the original and the zero gravity is such an improvement. This is one of the best horror games in recent memory.

Marvel's Spider-Man10

This is the definitive Spider-Man game. The gameplay is top notch, but the care and attention to the story and characters feels like a labor of love. It’s a game made by Spider-Man fans for Spider-Man fans (like me). Kudos to Insomniac for creating one of the most memorable Spider-Man experiences since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.

The best Survival Horror game, period. This is how you remake a game. Not by cutting content or replacing it, but creating a 1:1 remake with addition story beats and lore. You really can’t call yourself a RE fan if you haven’t played this.

A truly good game hidden behind a mediocre remake. It’s kind of disappointing, but the game itself is fun. Despite a lot of people saying it has no replay value, I found myself wanting to complete more challenges and to beat the game on higher difficulties with a better rank. The characters and voice acting is some of the best in the series (in my opinion) and the soundtrack is definitely top notch.
