Close For The Night1
Jan 26, 2026
Buyer's Remorse: The Game. Don't judge a game by it's cover. I thought this would be a creepy game where you had to close down a shop at night, like something Chilla's Art would make on PC. Nope. Booted it up to find it had a cursor (first bad sign for a random PS game). Getting a door open was a pain in itself because the UI is so small I couldn't tell it was a hold to open prompt. Then when I'd held long enough, the game brought up a loading screen to load in a very simple environment. Once in that environment, I was supposed to find a flashlight. I tried to use the camera's night vision to see (as the hint that is always at the top right of the screen says) but I could no longer use the camera at all. I wandered around for maybe 10 minutes, unable to find the flashlight (the objective) before I went to the PS menu and deleted the game. I've never refunded a game but if this were Steam I would have requested a refund. This game has no business being on the PS Store. Not creepy, not charming, just broken.

Silent Hill: The Short Message5
Jan 17, 2025
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting but it certainly wasn't great and it's a poor representation of the Silent Hill mythos. I was concerned they were being too flippant with the serious subject matter of the game even given the multiple mental health warnings present but it all worked out in the end. It was an interesting idea but I hope any future Silent Hill installments return to the formula of the original trilogy.

Days Gone8

The first time I tried Days Gone I bounced off it pretty hard. When I gave it a second chance I couldn't put it down. The best way I think to describe this game is an "open world The Last of Us". I loved checking off all the missions and upgrading the different weapons and abilities. The story is slightly above average but it falls off toward the end. The extra modes are very challenging and fun as well. Days Gone is a solid game I'll likely go back to several times.

So close to perfect. It breathes new life into a legendary classic. They respected the source material while making welcome updates to the gameplay. I think this may be a masterpiece

The Last of Us Part II8
Sep 24, 2023
This game got hated on way too hard. After the first game, this is not what I expected or wished for but it was an amazing game nonetheless. The gameplay is about as good as the first game. The story has obviously been very controversial. While I wish it had been different, I can't say it's a bad story. It made me feel more than just about any other game I've played. I've said many times that this game is pretty much the most depressing game I've ever played. After several playthroughs and months of hindsight, I really appreciate this game. Yes, it's no Last of Us (original) but it is a great game.

If you like a walking simulator every once in a while, this game is one of the best I've ever played. The story dragged me in and genuinely had me more on edge than many horror games I've played. I wish there was more interactivity to the gameplay. You can't turn lights on or off and many of the doors remain closed for the duration of the game. I got my copy for $2 and thought it was well worth it but I don't think it's worth the full price PSN is asking for it.

Lords of the Fallen (2014)2
Nov 24, 2020
This game is Dark Souls but with extremely clunky controls. I bought this game for $4 and it was a waste of money because if I want to play a game like this I'll boot up one of the Dark Souls or Bloodborne and have a much better experience. I did the math and even though I spent $20 on Bloodborne, my dollars per hours is much lower because I find Bloodborne entertaining. I just can't bring myself to beat this game. "If it's not fun, why bother?"

Resident Evil HD Remaster7
Nov 24, 2020
I like RE Remake a lot but it has several issues that are unforgivable for a PS4 era game and probably were also out of date when it was released on the PS3. The main gripe is that the game boots you out to the title screen every time you die. The only other games I've played that do this were on the SNES. This doesn't add to the difficulty or feel of the game, it only adds annoyance. Another sin of RE Remake is that it doesn't guide you where to go or what to do like more modern games. The first time I played I got completely stuck early on and had to look at a guide to figure out what to do and where to go. Again, this feels outdated. Tank controls don't feel great but the first RE game I played was RE4 so I was used to that. But if you've never played a game with tank controls it is a ROUGH transition from more independent character movement schemes. The story of RE Remake is relatively interesting. The level design is challenging due to all the locked doors and the enemy encounters but I enjoyed it and the traditional horror feel it gave off. If you like trying to get all the trophies in games you play you should be forewarned that some of the trophies for this aren't something I would ever attempt due to their extreme "challenge run" level of difficulty. Overall RE Remake is a good game and from what I've watched and heard it's a great improvement over the original RE. But I really hope they remake RE1 again in the RE engine with quality of life improvements that bring the game and story into the modern era.

Resident Evil 210
Nov 24, 2020
This game is almost perfect. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did but when I started playing I couldn't put it down and ended up getting the Platinum trophy in about 4 weeks. The story is engaging and the graphics on the RE engine are some of the best available on the PS4. But where RE games shine is their gameplay and this one is no different. The environment design is great. The sound design is absolutely oppressive as background noises continually play in most of the areas to keep you from ever feeling safe (except in the Safe Rooms). If you want to play for the story and just run through the game, the Assisted or Normal modes allow for that while the Hardcore mode brings an extra challenge without being insanely difficult. The only complaint I have is just how hard the "No Way Out" scenario is in the Ghost Survivor's DLC. It is the only trophy I haven't been able to get but thankfully it's separated from the main game trophies so if you're a trophy hunter you don't have to worry about that. I also wish there was more DLC like there was for RE7.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard9
Nov 24, 2020
This game is great fun. The visuals using the RE Engine are amazing and the story is amazing. But gameplay is where RE games really shine and that's true of this game as well. I liked this game enough to buy all the DLC and also to Platinum the main game. The Mad House mode is one of the most difficult runs I've ever done in any game which made completing it and popping the Platinum all the sweeter. This is my second favorite RE game next to RE2 Remake. The final chapters of the game aren't quite as good as the early game and the story leaves a lot up in the air that seems like it may be answered in RE8 based on the trailers for that game. Many of the DLC modes are entertaining as well though some modes are insanely difficult.

Dark Souls Remastered8
Nov 24, 2020
This game is one of the first games I played when I got my PS4 and one of the main reasons I bought a PS4. It is easily the most difficult Platinum Trophy I have ever earned. (To be fair, I made it harder on myself by popping all the Boss Souls in my NG cycle which led to me spending hours fighting and dying to Four Kings at NG+2 or 3.) The story in this game requires a lot of digging and reading item descriptions (and probably some guides) but once you get it it's a great story that leaves you wanting more details. The gameplay is where this game shines. I got absolutely brutalized my first playthrough but once I got a handle on it after playing hours of Dark Souls 1-3 and Bloodborne it became some of the most satisfying gameplay I've experienced. This and Bloodborne are the two games where finally beating a boss after slamming my head against a wall for hours on end made me cry tears of victory. It's a feeling only possible in games this difficult that require practice to get down the timing and strategies needed to succeed. After getting the Platinum in this game, I've replayed it several times because it has great replayability. It is one of few games that I would liken to comfort food or watching your favorite movie. Most of the environments in this game are really well designed and visually impressive. That being said, there are glaring flaws in this game. I take two points off this score for the Bed of Chaos boss fight alone. I have fought and defeated all but two of the boss fighting in the Souls series and Bed of Chaos is probably the worst designed fight of any of them. Capra Demon is also a slog but would be forgivable if BoC was a better fight. I would strongly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a challenging video game. Success requires a lot of practice and learning along the way and therefore feels all the more rewarding.

Dear Esther: Landmark Edition1
Nov 24, 2020
I only paid $2.50 for this on PSN. At that price, I'd say this game is worth it because the "story" and setting is pretty interesting. I say "story" but the directors commentary at points makes it clear at one point that there is no one correct interpretation of the game's story and they purposely obfuscate the story using conflicting voice over lines. At another point in the director's commentary, the writer said the main crux of the story DID actually happen. Any game like this relies VERY heavily on the story so to have it so up in the air and leave you wondering if there's a story at all definitely detracts from the narrative. The visuals of the game are lacking. The setting is beautiful, to be sure, but looking up at the sky you can see pixilation of the clouds which is out of place in a PS4 game this short. To compare, when I played The Vanishing of Ethan Carter I took several screen shots because I found the setting and visuals so appealing but I only have one screen shot of this game I thought was worth keeping. If I had stopped playing the game after my first playthrough, I probably would've given this game a 5 or 6. But I'm a completionist so I decided to try to get all the trophies and I thought the director's commentary would lend some clarity to the story. Unless you are extremely enamored by the main game to the point where you'd give it a 8-10 out of 10, don't bother with the director's commentary. To be fair, the gaming community tends to agree this was a pioneer that led to many games like "...Ethan Carter" and "...Edith Finch" so that's perhaps why they thought a commentary track was appropriate. But compared to the two aforementioned games, this is very bare bones and if the visuals weren't in HD, this easily could've been a point and click on PC in the 90's. I still would've liked the experience if the Director's Commentary reflected how meager this game is but the commentary lacks any humility (humbleness). Listening to the commentary, you get the impression that these developers think they could've written Silent Hill 2 on a napkin over breakfast. At one point, the writer literally says that this game redefined how caves were designed in video games.. Enough said- the directors commentary was absolutely miserable to sit through because the directors seem to have no concept of where their game stands. It was $2.50 on PSN and hearing them talk you'd expect they'd want it to be a full priced $60 game. The only gameplay consists of choosing where to walk and walking up to environments and objects which trigger voice over. There is no "press x to examine:", there is no sprint button (the director says he thought it would be weird because you don't run around in everyday life-- as if being alone on an island is everyday life). In fact, R1, R2, L1, L2, Square, Triangle, Circle, and X all do the same thing-- zoom in. And you never have to zoom in to progress the game. To be fair, there is one moment in the game at the end of the third chapter that I thought was very well done. I can appreciate that this was the first of its kind and it was a risk to make it but because the story isn't great or clear and it has the least amount of gameplay of anything I've ever booted on my PS4 or PS2-- it is worth the price I paid for it-- $2.50. If you get it for $5 or less and don't try to 100% it, it's a solid 5.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter5
Nov 24, 2020
I paid $5 on PSN and at that price I'd say it was worth it. The game says right up front it's not going to hold your hand and that's absolutely true. It's like a Myst-like in that respect because I can't imagine anyone getting 100% out of this game without looking up a guide. Some of the puzzle solutions aren't intuitive and for the most part the game doesn't even explain the mechanics of how you'd solve the puzzle. There's not even in-game instructions of what buttons do what. The best part of this game is its beautiful environments. I found myself stopping to take a screenshot quite a few times. That being said, a game like this HEAVILY depends on its story. I thought the story was interesting but not outstanding and it never elicited an emotional response like a good story should. I bought this after playing What Remains of Edith Finch. Th is game is in the same vein but I much preferred Edith Finch's story.

Need for Speed Payback: Speedcross3
Nov 17, 2020
I paid full price ($8) for this DLC after getting the maingame as a free PS+ game. The main game was one of the most fun racing games I've played. However, this is one of the most barebone DLCs I've ever played. I'm surprised they bothered recording voicelines for it. You get new types of races that are pretty fun but unlike the main game you can't customize your Speedcross Car's looks or performance until you finish all of the Speedcross races (it upgrades automatically between races). Unless you really like the Mini or Infiniti there's really no point in buying them to customize them. The Mini included in the DLC is relatively good at offroading and drifting so it may be helpful for the completing the driftzones in the main game. If I had paid for the main game I'd be more disappointed but for $8 as if I made a delayed payment for the main game. I would say this is definetly not worth the price unless you can get it on a good discount

Marvel's Spider-Man10
Nov 17, 2020
I was a late adapter to PS4 and this came bundled with my console. I really did not expect to like this. I'm not a Marvel or Spiderman fanboy so when I first got it I played about 20 minutes before shelving it dor almost a year. When I finally got back to I was blown away and it's become probably my favorite game I've ever played. If you've played any of the Arkham series, this game is a lot like it in gameplay but better. The graphics are great for the PS4, the story is gripping and actually elicited an emotional response like a great story should. The DLCs are pretty good but not up to the same quality as the main game. Though the game performs very well, it's one of only two games I've ever had hard crash to the PS menu. Easily forgivable for how much I loved this game. This is the closest thing to a perfect game I've ever played.

Bloodborne9
Nov 17, 2020
Almost perfect. Buy it already! Bloodborne is one of the main reasons I bought a PS4. BB is very difficult, especially if you want to Platinum the game. This was the first game I played where I desperately wanted to get good because I loved so much about the game and after hours of practice this was my first Platinum. The gameplay is challenging but addicting. There are few cons to this game but one is the graphics on a plain PS4. One particular area/room absolutely CHUGS so if you're picky about FPS that's something you should know before buying. Another con is how stingy it is with regards to story. It's like any Dark Souls game in that respect- the story is great but it leaves you wanting more and wondering. Overall one of my favorite games I've ever played.
