Slay the Spire10
Apr 18, 2026
10/10. Slay the Spire is a masterpiece. It is extremely fun, addictive, creative, unique, even revolutionary. It's such a one-of-a-kind game that it created its own genre, with countless copy-cat games trying to capture its magic, but not quite succeeding (although imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). I am not ashamed to say it took me 265 hours to earn 100% of the achievements and beat ascension 20 with all four characters. It was extremely difficult (and admittedly sometimes pushed me to the limit of my sanity), but it was absolutely worth it. I enjoyed every second of it, and I'm looking forward to doing the same with Slay the Spire 2.

A masterpiece, combining a Metroidvania with a Soulslike. This has excellent, challenging bosses and fun platforming.

This is an excellent RPG. It has amazing visuals, fantastic world-building, an interesting story, great characters, a unique build variety, and fun turn-based battles. In terms of combat, it is just like the Persona series, but I much preferred this world over the school setting of Persona.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade9
Jan 23, 2026
The original Final Fantasy was a once-in-a-generation masterpiece that changed RPGs forever. Remake manages to live up to its reputation, while modernizing it for a new generation. Remake is not quite as brilliant as Rebirth (which totally reimagined the original), but it is full of heart.

Dark Souls III9
Jan 23, 2026
The original Dark Souls is a once-in-a-generation masterpiece, so it is very hard to top it. Dark Souls III may not be revolutionary in the same way, but it perfects the formula started with the first Dark Souls. The original had some flaws, and the third fixed all of them.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin8
Jan 23, 2026
Dark Souls II unfortunately has a bad reputation, but it is perfectly fine. Sure, it's not as good as Dark Souls I and III, but it's still a great game. The janky hitboxes are annoying, and the stats mechanics are weird. But FromSoft deserves credit for trying some new, unique ideas, and not simply copying Dark Souls I.

NieR: Automata - Game of the YoRHa Edition10
Jan 23, 2026
This is among the best games ever made. It shows that video games can truly be art. The story and lore are genius. The characters and world-building are so beautifully tragic. The battle system is extremely fun. The music is as good as it gets. And it goes without saying that there is so, so much replay-ability (it's practically mandatory).

The Surge7
Jan 23, 2026
Very clever sci-fi soulslike. This is not just a derivative copy of Dark Souls. It has a lot of new, interesting ideas (eg, limb targeting, refillable energy meter, rechargeable estus flasks that use energy, etc.). It is definitely a bit clunky at times, but I would still recommend it.

An absolute masterpiece. It is still a game with some major flaws, but it wears its scars with pride. This game changed everything: it created an entirely new genre, and had a profound and inescapable impact on gaming as a whole.

Fretless - The Wrath of Riffson8
Jan 23, 2026
Very fun and creative game. The music is amazing, and cleverly integrated into the combat. The battle system is great, combining turn-based combat with quick time events and parrying (like Paper Mario or Sea of Stars). The diversity of play styles and enemies was decent for a short game. I only wish it were longer. (I got 100% of achievements in just over 7 hours.) The story is mostly just background, but I very much enjoyed the game.

I enjoyed this game a lot. The best part is the combat system (obviously -- it's certainly not the story), which is very fun. I went into the game playing like Dark Souls, but then I realized it's actually more like Sekiro. So once you understand the parrying system and learn the attack patterns of the enemies, it is very satisfying. I also appreciated how much you can customize the build according to your play style. The music is good. The story is not great, and it's more in the background (the focus is clearly on the combat), but if you follow the lore, there are some interesting ideas. The enemy variety is not very big, and there are not many levels (really only three different settings), but I at least appreciated that they offered some side missions that re-used the levels with different enemies, to mix it up a bit. It's a short game, but you get what you pay for. For an inexpensive indie game, I was very satisfied. Great work. I hope they make a sequel.

En Garde!6

This game honestly is not very good. There are some interesting ideas, but there are too many flaws. There is very little enemy variety (only 5 or 6 enemies), so instead of providing more variety, the game just throws like 10 enemies at a time at you. It is not fun; it is just annoying. I discovered this because I saw it in a list of games that are supposedly like Sekiro, but this is not really like Sekiro. I wanted a parrying-focused game, but this game is not about parrying; it's about dodging the 10 enemies running toward you at the same time. And the enemies have too many unblockable (red) attacks, meaning there is very little incentive to parry. It's a shame, because the art style and the world design are unique, and the music is fun. But the story is just a pointless backdrop, and the dialogue is very cheesy.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA8
Jan 23, 2026
A solid 8 out of 10. Fun combat. Great music. Interesting story (albeit cliché at times). Good characters. The dialogue can be annoyingly boilerplate and often drags on, but that's typical for this kind of JRPG. This was my introduction to the Ys series, and it was quite good.

Enotria: The Last Song7
Jan 23, 2026
Honestly this game is not bad. It got a lot of heavy criticism, but the gameplay itself is fun and interesting. The bosses are well designed. The weapon variety is good. It deserves a solid 7. HOWEVER, the big problem is the bugs. I experienced many bugs throughout my playthrough. I had to make a manual backup of my save file every time I stopped playing, and after every major boss. Because sometimes a boss would just randomly freeze, and I could not damage them, which would kill my game. I know this is not common for a Soulslike, but if they let us save the game manually before boss fights, it would help save the game from being a disaster that destroys your save file. I don't understand how there are still so many serious bugs. I played this game a year after it came out, and the bugs are still very disruptive.

Final Fantasy IX8
Jan 23, 2026
It may be apostasy to say this, but Final Fantasy IX has not aged nearly as well as Final Fantasy X. The story is still great, the characters are excellent, and the music is good, but the game is very clunky, and the combat is pretty formulaic.

One of the best games ever made. Truly a masterpiece. The story is top notch; the music is amazing and still memorable today; the characters are unforgettable; and the turn-based combat was revolutionary at the time, and still is fun more than two decades later.

Final Fantasy XVI9
Jan 23, 2026
Excellent game. The story is great. The music is superb. The battle system is fun. The Eikon battles are fantastic (especially with Titan). There are some quality-of-life improvements they could have done. The side quests are mostly boring. Also, I don't understand why you can't run, except after walking in place for 5 seconds (and only outside of cities). And you don't get the chocobo until half way through the game. Furthermore, the invisible walls can be pretty annoying, and prevent exploration. Excluding these minor issues, however, it is an excellent game. In my opinion, it's the best in the series since Final Fantasy X (not counting the FF7 remakes, which have been as good as it gets).

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth9
Jan 23, 2026
A masterpiece. It's almost perfect. I would say a 10/10 were it not for some of the horrible mini-games. (To be fair, not all of them were bad. Some mini-games like Queen's Blood were great, but there were too many that were annoying garbage.) Other than that, it's absolutely amazing: beautiful story, excellent characters, superb music, and a great battle system.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 3310
Jan 23, 2026
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the great games ever made. And that is not because of recency bias. This is a truly special, once-in-a-generation game, up there with the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Dark Souls, and Elden Ring. It will forever change not just the RPG genre, but gaming as a whole. For fans of JRPGs and Soulslikes, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the perfect mix of both genres (plus a whole lot more). It has the enthralling story, beautiful world, rich characters, and turn-based battles of JRPG classics; plus the parry system, huge open world, play-style customization, and build variety of the best Soulslikes. The story is amazing; the music is brilliant; the characters are memorable; and the battle system is one-of-a-kind. It is simply perfect.
