The best way I can describe OMITB (like NKOTB but only older) is that it's a comfort food show: consistently good and worth going back to. It's a bit of a phenomenon in that it comes out consistently every year like clockwork which doesn't happen in TV these days. It never strays from its center line which is a positive and a slight negative. It's not a socially buzzy show that you're going to get spoiled by scrolling through social media. That also makes it easy to forget months after it comes out. Still, it's a nice bottle to pull off the shelf when you need a palate cleanse. Yes, you definitely have to suspend belief at times (especially in s5), but the trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are incredibly charming and every season features unexpected guest stars who fit right in.

It’s a pleasure to see that the series continues to be engaging and funny even after so many seasons :) I can’t wait to watch the next one, and I’d love to see more of Meryl Streep on screen!

One of the best shows that I’ve ever seen in the last 5 years! So funny and entertaining, Selena’s acting is in another level, her, Martin Short and Steve Martin have amazing chemistry!

One of the funniest shows on TV. Steve Martin as a retired TV star, Martin Short as a disgraced Broadway director, and Selena Gomez as a brooding young lady occupying an apartment left to her by her aunt--share a fondness for true crime podcasts. When a body turns up--and it begins to appear that a killer lives among them--they launch their own podcast and begin to hunt for clues, interview suspects, and try to separate fact from fiction. This is the kind of mystery that can be enjoyed "Only Murders in the Building" is nothing less than a comedy lover's dream.

"Only Murders in the Building" (S01, Aug 2021, 10-eps, 30+ mins, Hulu) This review is for its first season. I waited several years to watch this because (a) the initial set of reviews weren't good, and (2) I wanted to see if it endured for several seasons. So given that it's completed 4 seasons, and will get a 5th, I was like, well, it must be pretty good to endure, right? So the first ep was pretty good, but then the second AND third eps were significantly poorer and an acting and/or directing pattern was establishing itself. Martin Short was overacting and over-expressing. Steve Martin (age 76 at the time) just came across as old and tired. But worst, and this is a continuing critique to this day, is the acting ability of Selena Gomez. Her problem is the exact opposite of my observation for Martin Short; she underacts, undervoices, and in general underwhelms. Her character is just unappealing in all dimensions. But you know what all three of them are EPs of the show so no one can remove or replace them! So if, like me, you can't get past even a few episodes, you cannot hope for a new cast at some point, you have only one option, stop watching the show and move on, which is exactly what I'm doing.

Wokest Show I've ever seen. Season one is still so good that it's barely still worth watching. Season two is just terrible, the mystery is sooo cheesy, and so your just left with director pushing woke ideology for all of episodes 2 through 9.

This is one of the most satisfying shows I have ever seen, packed with humor, humanity and a tightly written mystery, It's the ultimate comfort show for viewers who like tales of fallible heroes and found family.

The perfect show, fun, light hearted and reminiscent of crime podcasts glad the new season is here.

To be honest, I only watched the first two episodes of season one. That was all I could take of Selena's nasal voice and her using the F word in every other line. The jokes were lame and the chemistry between the three main characters wasn't compelling. The plot was OK but it didn't make up for the delivery.

Is there a way I can rate this show an eleven for the first season? It's so great! Funny, smart, and engaging right until the last credit of the entire season. I was hooked so early on. The second season was juuuuust a little slower by a step than season one, insofar as it seemed to keep going for "gotcha" type moments as opposed to letting the story develop. That also meant at OTHER times the plot was far too rushed. But overall, we're talking just a smidge less than season one.

Great TV series. The story of season one was great, and season 2 is also on par with it. The actors are all amazing and I like the new actors/stars for one season to another. It's funny, serious with un je ne sais quoi! I like it a lot and wish we have a season 3. I give it 90%. And no, it didn't made me appreciate more podcast or dips. But hey, I love all the rest.

This show was amazing, it has mistery, tons of plot twists & some funny points.

Outstanding show. I am most of the way through season 1, and although it had a slow start the writing and performances improve with every episode. It's just so whimsical and unpredictable, and the chemistry between the leads is top notch. The episode “The Boy From 6B” has been a standout so far, told from the view of a deaf person you have to wait until the very end of the episode before someone actually says something. An episode of such quality it gave me goose bumps watching it.

15'' attention span writing for a 15'' attention span generation, I guess? "I am inventing this plot as a go a long" so don't expect any consistency should be another tagline. It is the screenwriting of a five-year old where events and characters happen randomly with not much coherency or internal logic. The only thing missing is a Bambi and a Godzilla... instead of TV stars appearances and celebs lacking some Je ne sais quoi... ah yes, talent. Selena looks super weird at times saying her lines like she just came from dentist or something. Maybe it is direction at fault? How can things looks so polished and acting still so amateurish at times. This is supposed to be a whodunit? Where you are on the edge of your seat? You just cannot give a flying (word often used int he show) for any of the characters. This kind of writing will teach viewers that TV, streaming or whatever you want to call this medium is just BS and is just not worth your time being wasted on this @p. Nice idea at episode one but turned out to be a waste of time. PS Respect to Steve and all involved for trying, but this is not a good at all. Kill it.

I love selena gomez but her acting post wizards of Waverly place has been consistently horrible, rigid and bland. She fails to portray a character but instead just reads her lines. The mystery is awfully predictable and their dynamic doesn't intrest me in anyway.

Pros: most of the jokes are solid although their not delivered as frequently as in most sitcoms that's ok as there's a coherent plot that I might even consider the comedy to be secondary to The overarching plot is phenomenal, it keeps you guessing and there aren't really any spots youll get bored Cons: Some of Selena gomez's lines in the first few episodes felt like they could have used a few extra takes, and a few of her characters lines felt like they were written by an 80 year old who had no idea how millennials talk This is what really takes it down in my opinion, the plot isn't all that realistic in a lot of places (for example one character is able to read the lips of people who are turned directly away from them) Overal the kind of show you'll really think about outside of when your watching it, or if you do you'll start to notice the little hiccups in the plot Verdict/tldr: Solid, just don't expect it to hold up under a magnifying glass and it's not the kind of show you'll really obsess over

True Crime TV is not really my cup of tea, but I ADORED this show. Maybe it is the nostalgia and love I have for Steve Martin. He delivered a heartfelt performance. You could tell He was very involved in the writing room. The jokes, puns, and one-liners are so clever. This type of comedy is so classic and elevated but still adapted to a contemporary audience. Martin Short and Selena are complete opposites that balance so well the golden trio. The characters are complex and very elaborated. I actually liked the suspense too which was an unexpected surprise for me.

I LOVE this show, Steve Martin,Martin Short and Selena Gomez are a great trio and very believable as neighbors turned friends. I was so excited to hear that there is a second season coming. I pray it is NOT like Pushing Daisies among others that ended on a cliffhanger and does not just end

Only murders in the building A splendid whodunnit story that's brought to life by its brilliant casting. Twists and turns are littered all through, making it worth every minute; the 7th episode is especially well-done with the unique styling. Absolutely deserving of the praise and accolades it's been garnering thus far (if only Selena Gomez had snag the golden globes best comedy actress nom, but we have the critics' choice and possibly the Emmys to look forward to.)

I thought it was pretty good. Love Steve Martin. The tone is a bit odd in places, but the premise is so fun I didn't care that much. And the mystery is intriguing!

ago This was a very nice change of pace. Every cast member does a fantastic job, and there is a genuine mystery here that you feel satisfied with at the end. It's a fun ride, but more mature and relaxed than some other mysteries and thrillers. It also has a good sense of humor. I liked it!

Good show, but a bit overrated. Also, I found out who the murderer was since this character appeared... Too predictable in my opinion. They're all great actors tho.

This show was absolutely cringeworthy. The jokes constantly fell flat and the writing was so unrealistic it ruined any suspension of disbelief. The writers have obvious disdain for podcasters and youth. It feels like Steve Martin and Martin Short giving themselves a huge pat on the back for being so funny and smart. I was pulled into the first few episodes but the cringe kept growing and the intrigue kept getting flatter and flatter. They also make some inappropriate comments about people with ALS which really just summarizes how out of touch this show is. It’s a whole show of punching down. I don’t think any of them have listened to a podcast either.

Only Murders is fine. It fits into the very niche "detective dramedy" genre alongside Bored to Death and The Kid Detective. Steve Martin Short are okay reprising their comedy duo back-and-forth, but it's nothing special. Selena Gomez anchors the drama of the show and she's totally average. For a show based on the love of true crime podcasts, it doesn't quite nail any of the podcast elements, it's mostly a lazy excuse to reunite some beloved comedy legends. Shrug.

So close to being amazing! But then episode 8... You used a character we had no emotional investment in to reveal all the secrets resulting in an anti-climatic ending. Our amazing lead characters didn't earn the info, didn't sacrifice for it, and therefore it feels unearned and unsatisfying. This show was so close to being amazing that we didn't even notice all the woke you slid in. That's how good this show WAS but now, I have no reason to watch the last episode.

This is a surprisingly entertaining series. Two old goats and a gomez! Steve Martin and Martin Short are at the top of their games while Selena Gomez is a breath of fresh air. Other than the typical Hollywood WOKE insensitivity injected in the middle for no good reason, this is a highly recommended series to watch.
