Invasion (2021)3

Dragged out sentimental 'dramatic' accents destroy what might have been a decent TV show. Every episode has about 20 to 40% filler unnecessarily dragged out content that makes it boring and destroys any resemblance of story beats moving the narrative forward... Nice production and acting that could have been much much much better.

The Last Frontier (2025)2

Confusing, unbalanced, 3-4 extra episodes worth of nothing fillers... Bad writing. You can't have a spy action thriller, crossed with family drama crossed with frontier-western with filler bridges with usual suspects mystery... Waste of your time

Who writes this nonsense and who green lights it into production is a real mystery of Prime Target. As a viewer I want this to be interesting... but it is not. So much non-action is being told to us by actors telling us instead of showing. Too much of 'pensive moments', filled with empty looks into nothing... Booooring.
Weird casting. Unclear if this is a teenage drama or action thriller. Unclear what is a "big stake" underlying the premise of the story.
Main character is a tourist in its own story doing nothing and seems caring less about anything. Intriguingly bad. Well shot, locations etc but the story seems to be an afterthought. Who writes this nonsense and who green lights it into production is a real mystery of Prime Target.

There should be a rating NOT FOR ADULTS. Started well. All downhill after... No focus on a central story or a theme -- dissolves in too many directions and 'characters' that are all just temporary distractions it seems... The art and craft of screenwriting is completely lost. Most of new streamers should benefit from hiring a script doctor, or two, or five... since they can't find a capable screenwriters it seems. Crap screenplays are pervasive and systemic issue these days -- unclear if this is a fault of writers or there is too many committees filled with incompetent suits who green light these poor attempts to be produced. Otherwise well produced and acted by a cast with a good screen presence and potential to make this (or anything well written) into a hit series. It is sad to watch some fine actors fight the war that is lost already after episode 3. Such a waste of time and talent.

The Day of the Jackal3

Promising start -- appaulingly bad end. It looks like the budget ran out for the final episode? Lead actors are carying a lot but still the thing falls apart. TV shows these days are amateur hour from production side of things.

Disclaimer: Season 13
Nov 4, 2024
Pulp fiction ie cheap fiction, paper thin characters, unbelievable actions, reactions and overall silly plot... Great ensemble of actors are once again put in a position to make mimicry on the basis of a poorly written script. Mimicry without substance. Waste of talent. (written watching episodes 1-5)

Pulp fiction ie cheap fiction, paper thin characters, unbelievable actions, reactions and overall silly plot... Plot full of holes, inconsistent and silly. It is strange how actors manage to still make something out of it. As a whole it is frustrating experience to watch it. Time wasted. Readers or viewers sometimes refer to this kind of story as suffering porn or misery fiction, where the emphasis on suffering feels excessive or manipulative, aiming more to provoke a reaction than to advance a meaningful plot. Impressive cast of top actors -- wish they were given a better script. Written after episode 7

The Acolyte: Season 11

Culture wars aside, this is just plain and simple bad writing, bad directing, bad acting. Actors are not at fault as nobody can do much with nonsensical script.
Any legacy or fan wars orcultire wars aside I cannot imagine that any student of film would get a pass with this. Just not coherent, characters are unclear, most of the action and motivations are told to us - there is not much to experience. Just mediocre TV. I am trying to stay away form spoilers even if this should be ripped apart just to have some value out of this -- to use it for education how NOT to write and how NOT to direct if you want to tell engaging story. LAME.

Clickbait equivalent of a plot. It is uninteresting and full of filler scenes that add nothing to the story or characters. ChatGPT could have written this; it probably would have been better. Scriptwriting at its lazyest. Premise is fine but stays on top line headline... Vaguely stated story of revenge... Seen that million times... If you are doing Star Wars in 2024 you need to be much better than this. Learn from Andor. Young actors might be cheap but they act badly.

There is a huge plot hole in the story that spoils otherwise very good cast, atmosphere and pace. Show is made from a book which might have the same problem but nevertheless it is just not acceptable that such script flaws are produced nowadays. Is there anyone paying attention? Often it is the case in crime mystery. The "unveiling" of the mystery is so dumb that viewer feels even more stupid for investing the time in watching it. Hyper-production does not breed quality. This is more prevalent in new streamers than in traditional TV. Not sure if it has to do with lack of knowledge and experience in production? I am really cautious with anything freshly produced as it is 9 out of 10 not prime time material.

Boring, nonsensical permutations of a 'story'. Dragged out, confusing and incoherent without any point. Unclear if this is meant to be sci-fi or cheap horror without any inner coherence. Blabbering about physics is hilarious. The whole 8 episode season could have been one Twilight Zone episode. Unfair to the cast - Rapace, Banks and Sukowa deserve a better script to match their talent.

These show runners are cramming the events into episodes and going through the motions of what happens next without making audience interested or involved... Chinese original series is much better (with all its flaws).

A Murder at the End of the World4
Nov 26, 2023
This review is based on 3 episodes. Sorry to say. Very poor attempt at murder mystery. Since the creators are writing and directing (acting) it is fair to say that scrambling a timeline is NOT how to write a mistery. It is just a very boring puzzle set being assembled for us where we, the audience just dont care as everything seems just random. Characters staring into the void and looking serious and concerned is NOT how to make us care about them. The "detective" fails to focus on obvious questions and instead just walks around pointlesly "looking concerned". At best, there are some undelying themes by writers that can be inferred and might make much more interesting drama, if used. I want to beleive bit somehow recent TV and movie drama is failing to provide anything that can be accepted as just well done entertainment ... expecting engaging drama with revealing questions and insights is just like waiting a miracle to happen.

Only Murders in the Building2

15'' attention span writing for a 15'' attention span generation, I guess? "I am inventing this plot as a go a long" so don't expect any consistency should be another tagline. It is the screenwriting of a five-year old where events and characters happen randomly with not much coherency or internal logic. The only thing missing is a Bambi and a Godzilla... instead of TV stars appearances and celebs lacking some Je ne sais quoi... ah yes, talent. Selena looks super weird at times saying her lines like she just came from dentist or something. Maybe it is direction at fault? How can things looks so polished and acting still so amateurish at times. This is supposed to be a whodunit? Where you are on the edge of your seat? You just cannot give a flying (word often used int he show) for any of the characters.
This kind of writing will teach viewers that TV, streaming or whatever you want to call this medium is just BS and is just not worth your time being wasted on this @p. Nice idea at episode one but turned out to be a waste of time.
PS Respect to Steve and all involved for trying, but this is not a good at all. Kill it.
