Vitally, though, the director gets a terrific performance from Jerome, which prevents “Unstoppable” from falling into the traps so many athletic yarns do.

Jerome and Lopez build an undeniable chemistry that powers the movie, and it wouldn’t work at all unless Jerome wasn’t excellent as well. He is.

William Goldenberg’s feature directing debut comes to life more often as a conventional family drama than as a conventional sports movie.

Although the film is by no means a groundbreaking biopic, it has an effective execution that will appeal to the masses, especially viewers urging for another hero to root for in the face of adversity.

Lopez is particularly good at this stuff, giving another of the messy lioness performances at which she’s excelled in the past.

The film will interest school and college athletes and their families as “Unstoppable” ably captures that experience.

Between its verisimilitude-killing caricatures and hand-waving montages, “Unstoppable” is all too easy to pin down as a by-the-numbers misfire.

The best sports drama in the last two years! A must see with so much inspiration and meaning of standing high and love

A sports drama that does its best not to resemble the familiar, and does it quite well, appealing to the viewer's emotions. And Jennifer Lopez shows that when she puts her mind to it, she can give a good performance.

Written by Eric Champnella, Alex Harris, and John Hindman and directed by Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg (Argo), the story of Robles, although clearly influenced by typical sports biopic tropes, hits every beat with precision and artistry.

Based on the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles whose goal is to become Nationals Champion despite his disability. The film stars Jharrel Jerome as Anthony Robles. Jennifer Lopez plays his Mom Judy. Don Cheadle is his college wrestling coach Shawn Charles. The performance by Jerome and Cheadle were excellent. The rest of the cast were just average to be honest including Jennifer Lopez. I found this film about an inspiring story less than inspiring due to the lack of emotion I felt. A film like this should make you want to stand up and cheer and maybe go out and do some crunches or run around the block. You know like one of the Rocky films or Hoosiers or Vision Quest. A training.montage with great music would have helped. While it's not a bad film it's far from great.

O interesse só é mantido por se tratar de uma história baseado em fatos reais, mas segue a estrutura linear típica de biografias esportivas, com um toque melodramático pelo protagonista ser deficiente. Alguns dramas familiares ocupam muito espaço de tela, quase fazendo perder o foco, ainda que a Jennifer Lopez esteja surpreendentemente bem. Mas fico com a sensação de que o filme perde a oportunidade de trazer algo par além da meritocracia e da superação individual. Não à toa virou coach. Claro, sem menosprezar o feito do rapaz, impressionante e merecedor.
