The film’s boring center is made much more so by the squeaky-cleanness of everything and the prim and proper acting.

Tom Cruise’s latest film, Digger — the actor’s first real stinker in nearly 10 years — really is a rage-inducing sit. Not because of the environmental issues it depicts in such a dated and obvious way, but due to a pair of enormous egos being blinded to their baby’s badness.

Instead of one long, CGI-heavy death match, the plotting is twisty, smart and unpredictable. And, as in “Godzilla Minus One,” the human beings are somehow as engaging as the skyscraper-sized angry dinosaurs. What a thought!

Werner Herzog’s “Bucking Fastard,” a grabby title that’s far more fun than anything in the actual movie, suffers from that same arc of an early peak followed by a rapid decline in interest.

Cregger takes what’s winning about the franchise — its tentacled mutant zombies, the Raccoon City setting, its breakneck mission — and injects the story with appealing weirdness and humor. He makes it an actual movie, God forbid.

Hamlet plays a central role in the beautifully acted “Elsinore,” if the title didn’t already give that away. But the command has a dual meeting in its setting of late-1980s England. Young men are dying and fear being forgotten.

Directed by Lance Oppenheim, “Primetime” is not a routine biopic that gives a literal rundown of events, but rather a moody funhouse nightmare for its two main subjects: Hansen and Dan (Skyler Gisondo) the “decoy,” a budding musical-theater actor who takes the “Predator” job to get his SAG card.

Wild Horse is one of the director’s most plainly enjoyable movies, thanks in no small part to the brilliant Malkovich and refreshingly sunny setting.

Sometimes dazzling, sometimes puzzling, always ridiculous, “The Debut” is a song-and-dance fever dream that could be the wacko love child of “Waiting for Guffman” and “Black Swan.” There’s inside-baseball show people humor and a psychological breakdown. It’s capital-W Weird.

Fjord, which Mungiu also wrote, plateaus midway through, long before a trial in the most stunning courtroom of all time is meant to liven things up. It doesn’t really, despite the prosecutor’s string of nasty insults.
