Really, if a viewer doesn’t know Bourdain from Pepin, “Tony” plays as a highly entertaining, heart-tugging and fictional boy-to-man vacation flick, like “The Way Way Back.”

There’s a useful lesson for superhero films in that. More often than not, there’s much greater power in protecting your hometown than in saving the universe.

Who better to adapt an epic poem than Nolan, a man who unearths poetry in all of his epics? Here, he did not set out to use Greek myths as the foundation for a basic action movie, as so many do. Instead he dives into the psychology and moral thorniness of Odysseus’ plight.

Although so-so “Young Washington” fulfils its baseline promise — Look! Washington! While young! — it doesn’t accomplish much more than that.

Improbably, this fantastic animated kids movie, sure to be a highlight of the summer, is an adult cinephile’s dream.

A sweet and funny if stalkerish movie that nostalgically harks back to the 2010s and those love-centric films that often came with a heaping scoop of heartache.

Director Craig Gillespie’s movie starring an appealing Milly Alcock isn’t a total wreck. It’s blessed with a strong lead and is adequately enough executed. Had we not been bombarded with a million superhero movies over the last 15 years, “Supergirl” would be passably fine.

Oddly pretentious, this is one of those annoying films that drones on about the weight and importance of storytelling rather than telling a weighty or important story.

Five is arguably the first new “Toy Story” film to be both watched and understood by the kids of the 1995 original’s millennial audience. That shared experience is very moving all by itself.

That same innate knack for casting a blockbuster spell remains true of 79-year-old Spielberg, who’s recently focused on prestige dramas such as “The Fabelmans” and “West Side Story.” The man has such a great time making films, and his enthusiasm pours out of every shot.
