moved something inside me. loved the acting, directing, camera work and the effects. the clothes too lol. wish i watched this wehen i was younger, could've changed something.

Thirteen is more of like eighteen, Thirteen is not like any teens movie, it's surprisingly serious and dark, with Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed amazing chemistry, Thirteen is realistic, it is sometimes will make you annoyed, shock, and angry, and that's because how good all the performance in Thirteen, overall Thirteen is a much watch film.

The most real teen drama movie. Everybody can find at least one thing they experienced -or wanted to experience- during this movie. It's so sad but It's not trying too hard to make you sad. It's just showing the real life. Not too dramatic and not too comedic. That's why It's so real and disturbing. It tells you a story and you believe it. You believe it because it actually happened / can happen. Nikki Reed and Evan Rachel Wood was amazing in this film. And Catherine Hardwicke's talent in this movie makes me speechless. The color use is so clever. First it's colorful, then it slowly becomes kind of warm and orange / yellow-y, then through the end it becomes colder and paler. In the ending you can't even see color it's that faded and it gives you a cold and deadly feeling. The camera use is the best i've seen. The soundtrack is so perfect. "Lemon" by Katy Rose is still my favorite song of all times. Also the 2000's culture in this movie makes me fall in love with it even more. Thirteen is not just a movie, it's an experience.

this wallop of family drama.. Thirteen Hardwicke's peeling of the nature in front of the screen shows much more skin than the audience has a habit to swallow. It is honest, perpetually generous in this gut wrenching dark drama where the storytelling is thoroughly compelling and electrifying. This wallop of family drama keeps you busy in its pop culture bubble whose every aspect is displayed in here. The narration fiddles with the characters aptly for you to feel the heat in the room. In fact, each tiny character is mapped accordingly for it to flow and be aware of the trajectory throughout the course. The camera work is a bit eerie, and it is steady in its own shaky way and on its entire run it can get hectic at times. But with such a sharp and meticulous script, the execution is sincerely unapologetic and jaggedly on mark. It is also a sort of tale that demands performance since at certain point in the feature, the narration relies upon the silent pitches where nothing but performance speaks. Wood and Reed on their parallel role as opposite sides of the coin acting like one with various agendas, both of them controls the environment on the screen appropriately. But the real game changer would be Hunter at the realm of it. Her performance makes you fall deep and deep in her bravura of work. She gazes with purity that cuts through all the hoax and distraction of the this flashy and blingy pop culture world. In fact her character too is the strongest of all in here, it oozes warmth and more importantly humane mistakes against all the bickerings and rifts. Thirteen is an every bit of cinema as far as the problems are concerned but piling up those in front of you creates an enormous amount of pressure for the solution to be equally challenging, and it is breathtaking.

Ah bah voilà un bon film social, psycho-social même... Notez que le genre est casse-gueule par nature et peut sombrer facilement soit dans le mélo ridicule, soit dans la caricature plus ou mioins grotesque... mais ici on atteint un juste équilibre entre un regard bienveillant et une lucidité souvent peu amène sur le drame familial... On a donc une famille recomposée et décomposée, la mère divorcée ****, le père au diable vauvert, le beau-père ex-toxico et surtout la pisseuse de 13 piges qui nous fait une magnifique crise d'adolescence : l'âge con et ingrat à la fois. On a alors tout un assortiment de la petite névropathe en souffrance qui fréquente assidûment une autre petite conne névrosée, un vrai cas social à elle toute seule... Elles se comportent comme d'authentiques pétasses bling-blings maquillées comme des voitures volées avec strings qui dépassent, piercings, drogues et automutilations, résultats scolaires en chute libre, gros mots, manque de respect et tutti quanti... Sans parler de pipes à des jeunes gens de la diversité (car élevées dans le vivre ensemble et tout ça) et de là à ce qu'elles finissent sur le trottoir, il n'y a sans doute qu'un pas que le film se garde tout de même de franchir. C'est donc la dèche dans ces Misérables modernes de Los Angeles mais surtout le combat de la mère courage superbement interprétée par Holly Hunter qui oscille entre le désespoir et une opiniâtreté magnifique pour aider son ado déboussolée, vaille que vaille. Evan Rachel Wood incarne cette ado insupportable et touchante avec un brio stupéfiant et une justesse remarquable. Parfois émouvant (à la fin notamment) mais étonnamment drolatique, presque ironique, Thirteeen pâtit néanmoins d'une réalisation "tout à l'épaule" fort désagréable mais aussi d'une désaturation des couleurs bizarre dans le dernier tiers du film (à se demander si la télé déconne ?) pour faire "genre" ou quelque chose dans le genre, je suppose. Un psychodrame social particulièrement bien fichu donc qui aurait même mérité une note supérieure si sa réalisation n'était pas aussi merdique.

As one of those movies that prove a point in the most vehement matter, 'Thirteen' is certainly a movie worth admiring. Although it loses in aesthetics because of it's harsh realism, it is a wonderful movie about life, about growing up and about pressure piling up from each side. Similar to Linklater's 'Boyhood', 'Thirteen' utilizes a very similar method in it's approach to the plot and the characters. It gives us an insight into a chaotic environment, a specific state of mind and shows us the struggle, both internal and external, of a young girl just trying to find herself in the world she's been put into. The struggle is difficult, disturbingly realistic and it certainly demands a very strong emotional investment into watching the movie. But it also has a point, a strong message it sends and that message is why the movie is so exceptional and interesting. Evan Rachel Wood is brilliant in her role and you cannot help but wonder how such a wonderful actress managed to not become one of the greats... there is still time, sure, but... you just feel sorry. All in all, 'Thirteen' is the next thing to a real master-piece, a movie that, unlike many others, shows us how life functions and how it can be difficult for individuals to fight. But, it sends a strong message and one not so depressing as the movie itself and there is, certainly, a big lesson to be learned and it is, surely, a movie worth watching.

Evan Rachel Wood pulls here one of the best performances of the year, backed up by a nearly as stellar performance by Holly Hunter, not to forget Nikki Reed i what can be her best performance ever.

Thirteen is absorbing and beautifully disturbing, it is fascinating and scary because it is so real and fresh, it has the first rate direction, and it is an uproarious experience that you will never forget for a long time. Thirteen is easily one of my favorite movies.

Well it is a true movie, cause I know people in my life who are the same, but hiding it, no matter what age, corrupted kids do exist, and one could make an influence on another. But as a movie (Based on Nikki Reed's real life) it is way to amazing and detailed, plus the pacing is one of a kind it felt like three hours long, the story is perfect, the acting is perfect, nothing is missing, overall it is amazing but it is important.

If you really wanna know what life is like as a teenage these days then you have to watch this movie. They captured the everyday teenage struggles perfectly. I loved it.

This is one of the most realistic teenage films you will ever see, It shows just how hard being a teenage is and all the pressures that we have to deal with. Solid acting and the film is not afraid to go there to get its point across.
