A masterpiece watched in 2011 that earned a perfect rating, leaving an indelible mark on my cinematic memory.241113 (5.0)I watched this film in 2011 and gave it a perfect five-star rating. Although a decade has passed, the impact of that viewing remains clear—it was a cinematic experience that felt complete and flawless at the time. A 5.0 rating is a rare and significant score for me, reserved only for those works that manage to balance profound storytelling with exceptional technical execution. Even without a detailed written record from that year, the score itself serves as a testament to how deeply the film resonated with my younger self. It represents a standard of excellence that I still look back on with great respect, marking a moment where the art of film truly connected with my personal perspective. Looking back, it stands as one of the defining movies of that period in my life, a baseline for what a perfect film should achieve.

From the beginning until the end I was stuck on the couch watching this pure gem of a movie. Can't believe I've never seen this one before. Maybe that's because of the avelanche of blockbusters in the 90's, or I simply to young. End of the day this movie is an exiting combi of psychological and action, while the red line is a very well written story. Characters were sublime, each and every one of them. Acting was fantastic. Fat 9 for this one! Highly recommend it if haven't seen it before.

Kevin Spacey’s performance is outstanding. Masterful storytelling. Even though I anticipated the ending as the film progressed, the experience remained compelling throughout.

The film is iconic but because not one of the secondary characters is developed at all in any way personality wise... there is essentially no weight to any character. They could kill off all the other characters other than Spacey and just have him twiddling his thumbs for 2 hours and then say 'hey it was me!'. Same effect. When literally only one character is developed, that means the twist only involves that character. If two characters are developed, it's still garbage because it's just a bait and switch 'you thought it was him but it's him!'. This film could've been a masterpiece had they managed to develop 3 characters. I literally felt nothing during the scene where 2 of the heisters who had been part of the entire movie got shot. Had they developed one to be a good dad, or deadbeat dad, or drug addict, or nervous, or charismatic... there'd be 'weight' to their death.

"The Usual Suspects" is an ironic, bang-up thriller about the wages of crime. A terrific cast of exciting actors socks over this absorbingly complicated yarn that's been spun in a seductively slick fashion by director Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie future master of Mission: Impossible series. 30 years later it's still a near-classic blend of mystery, personality, humor and terror, laced with one stunning shock after another that still amazes you every time you watch.

The Usual Suspects is such a masterpiece as the acting is terrific and especially one of Kevin Spacey best performance I have seen as it is certainly a must watch.

One of the best plot twists I have ever seen. I genuinely had no idea who Keyser Soze was going to be. Loved it.

This has a fantastic ending. The build-up is interesting and exciting. Once you know the ending though it kinda ruins the whole film so I don’t see me watching this again. I am not a huge fan of gangster films but this one is better than most of the others and is actually enjoyable. Some might even call it a cinematic masterpiece but due to the lack of rewatchability I personally would not call it that.

Still very good but the ending feels kinda pretentious now. It's a movie you probably should watch sometime in your life.

This movie is excellent. The plot is so intense and intriguing. The twist often overshadows the movie when the build up is just as good. Performances are also excellent. My main flaw is the final gunfight which seemed a bit unrealistic and relied on plot contrivance a bit too much.

As an avid cinephile, who watches a lot of films to help me to be distracted from the pressures of everyday life, old and new and of all genres (have never had a bias against any genre and never love older films and dismiss new films, or vice versa), 'The Usual Suspects' was one of the finest films personally seen in a while. Other films to have that effect on me (and garnered 10/10 ratings, a rare rating for me these days) are 'LA Confidential', 'Amores Perros', Orson Welles' version of 'The Trial', 'City of God' and 'The Song of Bernadette', though some films came close as well as re-watches of favourites like 'Se7en', 'Much Ado About Nothing' (1993) and 'The Remains of the Day'. Simply put, 'The Usual Suspects' is a magnificent film all round that deserves to be re-watched over and over again, one of the few films seen recently to not find any fault with it. Fully deserving of its reputation as one of the best modern, and perhaps overall, films ever made. Not everybody is going to disagree and that is fine. 'The Usual Suspects' is slickly and audaciously made, filmed with a lot of style and is atmospherically directed. It is also hauntingly scored. It is intricately and intelligently written by Christopher McQuarrie, some of the best screen-writing he ever did. It is beautifully and deftly directed by Bryan Singer. If remembered correctly, neither McQuarrie or Singer were well known at the time and it was 'The Usual Suspects' that put them on the map. Film is famous for the iconic line-up scene, the noticeboard that haunts everybody forever and its killer twist, one for the ages and not one to forget in the long one. Twists have wildly varied in film, there are some ingenious ones but also some naff ones, 'The Usual Suspects' is one of the ingenious ones. 'The Usual Suspects' as said before doesn't just have its twist going for it. The flashback-packed story is similarly intricate and never feels muddled or convoluted. It has some of the finest ensemble acting there has ever been. This is especially true for a mesmerising Kevin Spacey in one of the most deserved Oscar Wins that year. Spacey is just one of the all round brilliant performances. Pete Postelthwaite, an always dependable actor who is still very much missed, is suitably mysterious, and Dan Hedaya and Chazz Palminteri make their mark as the confused cops. Steven Baldwin doesn't have a particularly challenging role but has never been better, Gabriel Byrne is also solid. Overall, magnificent film in every sense. Recommended with no hesitation. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Along with the Sixth Sense, this movie is a textbook movie of reversal. This movie is amazing even if you know the twist!

How this film got such acclaim is beyond me. Not a horrible movie by any means, but gets way too much hype. The plot isn't very compelling and very confusing to follow at times, and the twist at the end doesn't pack the punch that it should. The film is partially saved by great actors, but I just wouldn't consider it a very good movie.

This is a sometimes gripping, mysterious watch with a great cast. The plot develops reasonably slowly but it features some good action scenes and kept me guessing. I liked Pete Postlethwaite's asian accent (he plays a character called Kobayashi). It has a bit of a film noir feel to it, in that its gritty, urban and a little bit spooky, with some mildly unsettling music played subtly in the background to remind the viewer that anything could happen at a seconds notice. It is dark and bizarre but its definitely a good watch and the pace hots up towards the end. This is a film I'd recommend.

Usual Suspects is one of the best detective thriller of the 90s. Great story, strong cast (Kevin Spacey played his role perfectly) and crazy ending in the last 15 minutes. The plot twists worked perfectly, I, as a viewer, did not see the tricks in the flesh until the end of the film. Bryan Singer made his best film of his career and went to make numerous X-Mens films.

A true classic, with one of the most brilliant climaxes in the history of film, The Usual Suspects will not fail to make your head spin. You have everything in this movie. Solid cast. Wonderful script. Great camera work. A true gem. With Kevin Spacey leading the pack in his Academy Award winning performance, the acting in this film is very believable, and powerful. Your eyes will be glued to the film from the moment it begins, to the moment when your jaw hits the floor, in the end. I would highly recommend this film to anyone and everyone who considers themselves a fan of movies. This is simply a must-see.

It’s a good movie, the most dated movie I’ve seen, ever. The entire twist is absolutely absurd. The whole premise of the movie is STUPID to be frank, but it is entertaining

The twist ending is certainly a shocker but it pretty much flaws the entire film and makes you question if any of it was real. Still a solid movie though and certainly, at least some-what, lives up to the hype around it.

This is The Usual Suspects, a mystery crime neo-noir film directed by Bryan Singer who directed the X-Men films and has a good cast like Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Kevin Spacey, Chazz Palminteri and Pete Postlethwaite. This movie follows on five usual suspects who are arrested for a trumped up charge on hijacked truck with guns. And wouldn't you know it? A mysterious crime lord who is Turkish named Keyser Söze which I will not give information about that character. One of my favourite scenes from this movie is when those five criminals get arrested they have to say the tagline they've been given called "Hand me the keys, you f£$king ****." This is the memorable line in the entire film. Todd Hockney: "Hand me the keys, you f£$king ****."
Michael McManus: "Give me the f£$king keys, you f£$king ****, motherf£$ker..."
Fred Fenster: "Hand me the keys, you ****." Hand me the f£$king keys, you ****. What the f£$k?"
Dean Keaton: "Hand me the keys, you f£$king ****."
Verbal Kint: "Hand me the keys, you f£$king ****." The characters what I get into is the one I love is The Usual Suspects and the only one I got into is Michael McManus played by Stephen Baldwin. Why is that? Well, he's hilariously cocky and smart mouthed and he says the tagline which I really love and I kinda laughed and chuckled at is my favourite line and that is, "Give me the f£$king keys, you f£$king ****, motherf£$ker..." and he does gets a good line. I guess the only factor here is that Kevin Spacey did a great performance as Verbal Kint and yes, he won an Oscar for that and he in the interrogation with Dave Kujan who asks Kint questions about Keyser Söze, the dope on the boat and Dean Keaton. I once watched it just to concentrate on Kevin's performance through the entire film. Well, of course everybody remembers the most is the ending. It really adds a twist that who is the real Keyser Söze and the fact that everyone believed it, it really is Keyser Söze. Okay, now this is an thrill ride experience of The Usual Suspects. Best film of the year hands down. Great writing, great directing, great pacing, great characters, great editing and one great twist ending. This is a fantastic film. I really enjoyed this.

'The Usual Suspects’ is that slow burner that at a first glance is a slow and almost boring film — but that after a while expands into this cleverly written thriller that takes unexpected turns. It’s a story of much complexity with a lot of dialogue. This, in combination with the big lack of character depth might seem like a big flaw, but the 3rd act explains a lot of this and it does weigh more than the film’s cons — for some people. I loved the ending but found most of the 1st and 2nd act slow and uneventful. The third act made the whole flick superbly better, mostly thanks to the film’s mysterious antagonist, the powerful direction by Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey's performance as the character 'Verbal'. It’s one great and dramatic thriller, but that might be a bit too slow for my taste. Personal rating: 72/100
Critical rating: 80/100

HUUUGE MOVIE>>>> ALL THE OTHER MOVIES. Great cast, lot of white guys for some reason, don't know what Fender is doing in it or Kobayashi. Literally can't understand what they are saying. Mystery is HUGE! Wasn't a very good movie to sing along to. Pay attention, or don't, don't care, still a masssssterpiece. "The greatest trick the world ever played, was not showing you this movie". Peace!

Even predicting the end it was such a good view, I enjoyed it at least equally to other unpredictable movie ends, which really makes it a goddamn good shot. Great actors, awesome playing --> "The Usual Suspects"

I just watched the movie. Although, i already knew who was Keyzer Soze (so many friends of mine already told me that), the film was directed and released back in the 1995, the misleading plot was very clever and also the direction. The best asset, of course, is Kevin Spacey, who's performance is just divine.

I'll be honest. I had a long flight back from London and I came across this movie. I had heard it was good so I tried it out. Holy....crap.... I did not realize that I had stumbled upon one of my favorite movies of all time. The cast was perfect. The story was flawless. It kept me guessing until the final twist, which is up there with Vader being Luke's father. I feel this is a forgotten masterpiece that more needs to be seen more.

A classic of 90s cinema, everything with The Usual Suspects works; McQuarrie's script, Singer's direction, Ottoman's editing, and especially the performances, leading us down a complex and compelling story, all the while keeping us guessing what really happened.

The Usual Suspects is just so usual, that i predicted the end in the beginning. So decent and boring, and i couldn't care less about the characters. But i think you should watch it, because all other people enjoyed it, and it may be just my point of view.

This is a really good crime thriller. Kevin Spacey acts splendidly. Although the twist could be suspected at the beginning of the film, as the movie proceeds the viewer can't be sure any longer and as a result the ending is great.

i first saw it 4 or so years ago...I found the movie kinda quirky, got distracted by other family members who were in the room, so I watched it again a few nites later 'cause a few things were kinda hard to pick up on the first time, especially if one doesn't or can't pay attn to exactly what's going on. saw it again 3 years ago, 2 years ago, 6 months ago and a few months ago. it's on cable again tonite. this is a movie that can be seen a few times and can be appreciated over and over. great storytelling, superb acting and cast, and more movies need to be made with this quality of directing.

Chilling, breathtaking and absolutely brillant! While the wheels sometimes shud to a halt with these sorts of mystery flicks the pendulum kept swinging. Spacey was fantastic in arguably his best career performance alongside American Beauty (and House of Cards more recently). This German-American neo noir mystery film combines a chilling soundtrack, intricate but palatable plot, As well as dazzling performances from Stephen Baldwin and Benicio Del Toro. The action sequences are unpredictable if not spectacular while the dialogue is at times, utterly mesmerising. I finished the movie in total awe and with renewed faith in this troubled medium. Kaiser Sose is watching!
