It may be Cooper’s best historical film, and perhaps that’s because there’s a distinct melancholy to it that is etched into the bones of Virginia’s finest—just like Poe.

It’s only after the supposedly central mystery is solved that The Pale Blue Eye fully commits to its actual business, serving up in full a tale of loss and wrong-headed resolution. Bale’s characterization, subtle and slightly enigmatic throughout, here blooms. And eventually sears.

The Pale Of Blue Eye is one of the most clever and intriguing Mystery Thriller film i've ever watch, an unpredictable twist after twist that are so smart and quite shocking, an incredible build up from the beginning to the end fills with the obvious great performance by Christian Bale but the one that for me stood out the most is Harry Melling as Edgar Allan Poe, his performance deserve an oscar nomination for best supporting actor because his performance amazed me everytime he is on screen, and what a story again man!, it's a very engaging, intense, clever, and exciting mystery story, so well written, The Pale Of Blue Eye could've been in my honorable mention of 2022 if it's release earlier but as it is i think it's one of the best Mystery Thriller films i've ever seen, it's entertaining to watch, it's so clever and it's engaging, it's so good, and not to mention the rest of the supporting cast also from Toby Jones and Lucy Boynton, they were all fantastic, i highly recommended The Pale Of Blue Eye.

Like a fire made with mildly damp kindling, The Pale Blue Eye—adapted from Louis Bayard’s 2003 novel of the same name—takes a while to get going. Maybe, in truth, it never really does get going. But the story’s stately pace is part of the attraction, and perhaps key to its pleasurably somber tone.

As things turn out, this case turns on a rather ridiculous coincidence: but never mind, it’s an entertaining piece of counter-factual noir.

Christian Bale tries to solve a murder at West Point, circa 1830, with the help of young cadet Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling). But what should be a gothic mesmerizer ends up a dreary exercise to doom and gloom that’s an endurance test for audiences.

This is a case of one movie with two endings, and neither of them totally satisfy.

The film often feels like one of the corpses in its story: cold, lifeless, and without a heart.

Brilliant script, impeccably acted, directed in a manner that brings early 1800's to life. Thoroughly engrossing and entertaining.

It had a well thought out story. I, myself, couldn't relate to the characters very well. The ending was beautiful.

Not bad, but it gets boring.-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bale and Melling try their hardest to carry a mediocre mystery that makes Poe feel like a needless afterthought rather than a central and vital part of the film. This one would have been better off just changing the character.
