A blasphemous sequel. The only good thing about it is Rey's externality and the stormtrooper design.

Well written dialogue, great character concepts, incredible CGI, sets and music, and excellent performances, with good direction.
Yes, the plot either doesn't make sense or is a slightly tweaked version of an event from the original trilogy, or both, but this doesn't feel like a major issue until the second half. The first half of this film is an very well executed and very enjoyable adventure film. The second half of this film is a reasonably fun Marvel-ised version of A New Hope. It's worth watching and good fun, and from an execution standpoint it is amazing, but if you're looking for the level of plot/world complexity/memeable dialogue as the prequel trilogy or the uniqueness/message of the original trilogy then you might be disappointed.

I didn't think Force Awakens was all that amazing. It teeters along for the first hour. Starting square one on a sand planet. The movie in awe, enamoured of its source material. J.J. brings good energy and life to the adventure, but in the end, what adventure are we on? It's incomparable to what he did with Star Trek (2009). All this does is lightly return us to a beloved world, but defaulting for a basic demo-version for its re-entry. With a cliffhanger that makes you want to play the game ... but that's the movie. The ending saves it. After a very generic experience. The movie derives more questions than answers, which can be a draw, but is negligence on the writers. It's a decent Sw addition, but doesn't nearly break ground like I thought it would. It has good charm and life though.

It was watchable. A passable way to spend a couple of hours, marred by some annoying choices. I'd give it a 5 if it wasn't a sequel to one of cinema's greatest trilogies.

A return to form of sorts after the ambitious, but ultimately poorly scripted and acted prequels. This film is actually an exhilarating ride with good performances that 'feels' like a Star Wars movie. Not exactly original though let's be honest, and it does go downhill after this IMO. BTW, people scoring this movie a 0 because of politics and a childlike attachment to Star Wars - grow up! Equally, this is never a perfect 10 rated film either.

Not the HOPE of a new generation of the STAR WARS legacy that I had hoped for but there is so much potential here that surely it can't go to waste . . . or can it?

Greetings from Lithuania.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (2015) is a blast off entertainment from start till finish. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, so i kind of wasn't in the whole hype surrounding this sequel, but nevertheless i was also caught but all the fuzz, saw the trailers more then once and was waiting and wanting for this movie. I saw this movie with couple of friend who are a true Star Wars fans, and they were a bit disappointed by this movie. They complained that is made not much sense as a sequel, and maybe wasn't even true sequel, but from my point of view, it did many things that a sequel, which budget is 200 000 000$ and much of the new franchise's right owners future is at stake, right. It plays safe in terms of story, it is visually stunning movie (Oscar award without doubts), features tons of action, plenty of very good humor, returning iconic characters, some moving scenes and combine it with some nostalgic moments - this is a winner. Overall, as not a Star War fan i give this movie 10/10. I do believe, that if i would have been a "fanboy", score would have been lover. It has almost everything that a fun and great popcorn entertainment must have - simple and sharp characters, tons of action, superb effects, great humour, interesting (even if not very menacing villains), involving story and a sense of nostalgic to a previous movies if you have seen them. Next movie is scheduled for 2017. Can't wait.

It wasn't a good film, but it wasn't a bad one either. It has many minor flaws, like the blood seeping from a blaster wound. I also don't like many narrative decisions, like Rey being completely overpowered. But the nostalgia and the groundwork by George Lucas hold the film together.

While many themes from the original Star Wars trilogy are unashamedly rehashed in this film, the characters of Rey and Finn are inspirations for the next generation of fans. It is a bittersweet kickoff to the third trilogy in which we say farewell to some beloved characters and are reunited with others in the best of ways.

The sequels are kind of a** to be honest, but The Force Awakens is actually kind of good, I think characters like Finn and Kylo Ren had a lot of potential, most of which was created in this movie. It had some great moments and honestly if the sequels kept this consistency in the other two films they would've been a lot better.

I give this movie 1 out of 10 because I like JJ Abrams and think he is an extremely talented visual director. It's the only thing that redeems this soulless hijack of the original Star Wars movie. It's greatest sin is its abject contempt of the first three movies in the saga. It doomed the sequel trilogy before it began.

I think its a copy of "A New Hope" movie but it doesn't do this movie worse. Disney decided not to risk and just do smth that 100% works. But too much fan service as for me

Like Jurassic World six months prior to this, The Force Awakens softly remakes and reboots an original film in modern times and it comes off as a success. This is basically A New Hope, just shot with modern equipment. A loner stuck on a desert planet leaves their home to go fight a black masked bad guy who has an entire Empire at his back with the assistance of a smuggler, his furry companion and a rebellion. Sound familiar?

Return to the expectations of the Star Wars saga. This chapter introduces new characters and a story quite disconnected from the previous ones, even though the opposition between the two factions is quite (too) similar to the original trilogy. The plot is still good and solid, with a good development and faithful to the atmosphere that characterizes the saga

The beginning of the disaster that we Star Wars fans came across back in 2015. We all thought we had something in our hands but here we are now 10 years later with a more dead franchise than startrek. A shame, really.

An underwhelming but passable film. While it seems like low-hanging fruit, the film seems to ape many of the story beats that A New Hope touched upon, but underutilizes many of the characters and ideas it introduces. Adam Driver's Kylo Ren is the standout here, though the trio of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac perform perfectly adequately in their respective roles. What seems weakest to me here is the feeling of anything tangible or important happening. Ultimately, this seems like a rather by-the-numbers film that does little to innovate the franchise.

While the Force Awakens loses its cadence here and there, it remains aesthetically striking throughout. The homage it pays to its predecessors is fairly meaningful. It is an overall compelling movie, just shy of greatness.

Disney and JJ Abrams swing hard in their effort to repair the damage done by Episodes I-III, ultimately returning with mixed results. In a spiritual sense, it's dead-on: a loving tribute to the original trilogy that's a stylistic and thematic clone (with several not-so-subtly borrowed plot points) that makes for great fan service. Few cinematic properties have the rich, sprawling mythos of the Star Wars universe, and Episode VII is wise to draw from pool that at every opportunity. Those shared experiences with familiar characters, settings and devices go a long way; without six films' worth of enhancement to help prop it up, this would be an average sci-fi picture at best. The Force Awakens is wonderfully produced, with long, regular opportunities to appreciate the efforts of its all-world concept artists, but it lacks the steep sense of scale that has defined earlier chapters. It's a rather thin movie, all told, one that feels decidedly less sweeping and grandiose than those precursors. Less of a space opera than an interplanetary sonnet. The new cast members seem deep and interesting, so there's plenty of hope for future installments, but it's a little unsettling that Harrison Ford so thoroughly outshines them all. It's nice to see the rest of the old gang again, even if Carrie Fisher completely phones in her performance, but Ford is the film's heart and soul. Somewhere in the next installment(s), those new characters are going to need to step out of his shadow and carry things on their own. A promising step forward, teasing some intriguing potential directions for the rest of the new trilogy, but lacking a lot of the invariables that made A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back the timeless classics that they remain today. Much better than the prequels, in any case. Updated thoughts after a 2017 re-watch: A promising return to the more interesting tones and ideas of the original trilogy. Clearly getting the look right was an important emphasis, from the broad variety of alien species to the sleek, industrial imperial sets and lived-in, weather-worn appearance of the ships and enclaves. The Force Awakens is reverent without being obnoxious, peppering the screen and script with nods to the OT while still finding a way to do its own thing. The new characters leave something to be desired, though, especially when held in direct contrast to a returning Harrison Ford, who may not have cared much for his role in the series but nonetheless brings his working boots here. There's plenty of room for growth in Ren, Finn and Kylo, but in many ways, this is Han's film. He drives the plot, he carries our hearts in his hand, he speaks volumes with a glare. Even after he's departed, his presence lingers. That's going to be a big vacancy to fill, but the potential is there. Time to quit looking backward and gaze toward the future.

The Force Awakens was a decent return to the classic sci-fi franchise, but the sequel trilogy only goes downhill from here.

I give 3 solely because of the special effects and the beautiful picture. In general, I do not see the point of mocking this universe.

I remember: I went excited to the cinema to watch the next part of Star Wars, but as I watched, my excitement faded. The main character is a textbook Mary Sue, the old characters were just there to emphasize her greatness. The side characters suffered from a lack of ideas as the story progressed. The ending gave hope for something better in the second part, finally Luke will be there....

I had fun with the movies and the boys watching it with and it was generally fun. I liked fin. I liked ray, but I kept getting the feeling that this was nostalgia bathing by how the story was told and kipped going back to A New **** thing I like most is fin story about a storm trooper hopping out of in dark tunation and wanting to just be a nobody in nowhere, but getting real back because of his love for person. I think it's a lovely story. It's just that all the other parts of the movie just exists to say star wars exist you remember Star Wars.Nostalgia is so deep that it doesn't make any sense like why the f* is the Freedom Fighters called The Resistance they are now the Republic they are working for the Republic and how does the Empire get all their f** resources from space magic? It's just well design doesn't make sense because it has to go back to the binary of A New **** the movie love to use practical effects as much as possible and they look amazing. And the CGI looks good, so I don't get pulled out of the movie like I did in episode 1 and **** the movie is fun the action scenes are really good put together and I think the fights are entertaining and the feelings are good when they Arya it's just sad because I want to like it more. I want to like this movie, but it keeps reminding me of A New HopeIf a movie franchise have to continue, I think this is the most mediocre technical have done on it. It's almost more interesting to think about how they could have done it better or something different but nostalgia is truly. What fixes this to the ground.

Good job disney! Thanks for destroying a franchise/universe we all love. Disney is no longer a seal of quality, but a warning sign akin to fine print of detrimental side effects.

Disney advertised John Boyega as a main character in North America and allowed China to shrink his presence on the marquis to appease the Chinese culture. It's clear to see that Disney cares nothing for the stories they write, nothing about cultural or social issues, and everything about the dollar, or yen. There is no rating to give a movie that is a lazy redo of A New Hope.
