The offering boasts masterful artistic design and a beautiful score, but fails in the most important aspect - gameplay.

Offers nothing but mindless button-mashing, boring level design, and horrible pacing. [May 2004, p.100]

When you're not being blazingly bored by the fighting, you'll be frustrated by the linearity of the thing.

The best part of game is the cutscenes day really well directed and the voice acting is some of the best anime voices they could find. the combat has a problem that it becomes really repetitive and there's not really any cool moves to do some things to do so you just keep smashing the Square. I was enjoying the experience on to a point where bar exploded and I have to find a guy I was all over the map looking for him, but I couldn't find him and after half an hour. I give up and I just didn't care about the game anymore. Which is sad because the game is cute, but it's just not worth it.

I enjoyed the system’s blocking and Nitoh-Ryu, but the slowdowns really bother me. The game is also relatively short with ten chapters – I beat it within five hours, and it is very repetitive.

By rapidly tapping the square-button and moving the left analog stick towards the next enemy, I was able to slaughter groups all the way up to the very last few battles where a little bit more strategy was required.

A deeply disappointing experience that barely appeals to hack 'n' slash nuts and fans of Kurosawa's masterpiece.

I was expecting much more of this title, as it has an interesting storyline, but sadly, Seven Samurai 20XX is bogged down by the unacceptable mistakes.

So the story and gameplay fall flat, but part of what made the Seven Samurai film so incredible was its revolutionary cinematography. Does Seven Samurai 20XX at least excel in its look? Nope - the streak continues.

This game is so bad that it's insulting to both the talent behind it and the poor bastards who'll end up playing it. [May 2004, p.87]
