They Will Kill You

They Will Kill You is a deeply unserious comedy horror that provides just enough plot to get it to the next bloodbath. It might not work for some but there’s something in the enthusiasm of all involved that is hard to resist as they craft a gleefully chaotic spectacle.

Although much of the pleasures of They Will Kill You come with the caveat that the movie doesn't quite lead anywhere memorable, one aspect that is fully fantastic and very memorable is Zazie Beetz.

They Will Kill You is an undeniably fun and berserk action film that relies on the style to make up for the lack of discernible substance. For the most part, They Will Kill You pulls this off, and it’s easy to get caught up in just how much this cranks itself to 11.

A zowie Zazie Beetz takes a fiery axe to anyone who messes with her sister, but we’ve seen it all before and better. Boring is too small a word to hold the heaps of tedium that come with relentless repetition of kill scenes where no one dies

It’s a sporadically fun movie with obvious influences, but it also lacks in stakes and personality, getting repetitive long before it ends.

A case in which a production designer and prosthetics team showed up for work but the screenwriters might as well have crowdsourced their ideas from fanboys.

They Will Kill You delivers a fairly engaging experience, elevated by Zazie’s compelling performance. She brings a sharp intensity to the role, helping ground the film even when the narrative leans into familiar **** action sequences are well-executed and maintain a steady pace throughout, though they occasionally rely on conventional tropes. Still, the film manages to distinguish itself with a twist that adds intrigue and a plot that attempts to break away from the typical formula.While not without its flaws, the film offers enough originality and entertainment value to make it worth watching.

Of course this isn't a film you're supposed to take seriously, but it's very entertaining and a lot of fun, which already puts it well ahead of most movies these days. The direction is good and repeatedly brings Tarantino to mind. And even though the ending was a bit too weird for my taste, I don't regret watching it.

'They Will Kill You' is a copy of a copy. This action-horror comedy succumbs to a lack of originality. Everything it presents comes from films like 'Kill Bill,' 'John Wick,' 'Oldboy,' 'Evil Dead,' and 'Ready or Not.' More than an homage, it's a soulless pastiche that tries to hide its lack of creativity with flashy action sequences. Zazie Beetz demonstrates physical commitment, but the script doesn't give her the tools to make the protagonist less derivative.

A bit of a mess of a film. The premise and the acting is fine, although it fails to deliver anything new. So I get this is supposed to be an over the top gory action comedy, but it's difficult to take the many fight scenes seriously when Asia is just a bada** without any meaningful explanation as to why. It's also a bit silly that she's able to match strength with men who visibly have arms twice the width of hers, I personally found that it dragged me out of the immersion. There's a knack for doing fight scenes like this (Ballerina for example). Long story short, there are better action comedy films featuring cults and there are better horror films featuring cults.
