They Will Kill You

They Will Kill You is a deeply unserious comedy horror that provides just enough plot to get it to the next bloodbath. It might not work for some but there’s something in the enthusiasm of all involved that is hard to resist as they craft a gleefully chaotic spectacle.

Although much of the pleasures of They Will Kill You come with the caveat that the movie doesn't quite lead anywhere memorable, one aspect that is fully fantastic and very memorable is Zazie Beetz.

They Will Kill You is an undeniably fun and berserk action film that relies on the style to make up for the lack of discernible substance. For the most part, They Will Kill You pulls this off, and it’s easy to get caught up in just how much this cranks itself to 11.

I loved They Will Kill You quite unexpectedly. I went in worried it might just be a rip-off of Ready or Not, but it actually surpassed it. The film perfectly blends the right proportion of horror, comedy, and violence, topped with well-choreographed fight scenes and sharp dark humour that lands every time. Zazie Beetz and the cast deliver strong acting throughout, and the pacing stays tight and engaging from start to finish. It keeps the energy high without losing its edge. What could've been another forgettable horror-comedy turns into something fun, bloody, and satisfying instead. 8/10: a wild ride that mixes laughs, scares, and brutal action in a luxury building turned death trap - this one really delivers.

Released the same time as Ready or Not 2, this film has some good action choreography and some good twists, but it has the same plot as that flick and flopped hard. Not a bad watch, but don't expect too much out of it.

'They Will Kill You' is a copy of a copy. This action-horror comedy succumbs to a lack of originality. Everything it presents comes from films like 'Kill Bill,' 'John Wick,' 'Oldboy,' 'Evil Dead,' and 'Ready or Not.' More than an homage, it's a soulless pastiche that tries to hide its lack of creativity with flashy action sequences. Zazie Beetz demonstrates physical commitment, but the script doesn't give her the tools to make the protagonist less derivative.

A bit of a mess of a film. The premise and the acting is fine, although it fails to deliver anything new. So I get this is supposed to be an over the top gory action comedy, but it's difficult to take the many fight scenes seriously when Asia is just a bada** without any meaningful explanation as to why. It's also a bit silly that she's able to match strength with men who visibly have arms twice the width of hers, I personally found that it dragged me out of the immersion. There's a knack for doing fight scenes like this (Ballerina for example). Long story short, there are better action comedy films featuring cults and there are better horror films featuring cults.
