It's as if the show collected all the strengths of its predecessors. Even with the minor narrative issues mentioned previously, The Duffer Brothers’ Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen will go down in history as one of the best Netflix horror shows of all time.

For those who can stomach it (and, mind you, horror enthusiasts will be feasting), “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” proves a rewarding, otherworldly treat.

This was actually so good. Full of twists, great scares and humor. Plus its so well made, at times Lynchian, aesthetically so pleasing. The writing is really good - the characters are great and the dialogues were amazing between them. Didn't really love the ending personally, but I guess we're looking at some more seasons of this (hopefully). Camila Morrone is an absolute superstar.

While those in the market for jump-scares galore may be disappointed by the relative restraint here, the show is a masterclass in slowly building a sense of tension and anxiety while not being afraid to bring in the blood and gore when required.

There’s plenty of dread-inducing fun to be had in the early episodes, despite their reliance on well-worn genre tropes. But Boston unveils the “very bad” something of the title surprisingly early, and the twist is altogether much sillier—and a bit more contrived—than what the show’s eerie opening stretch suggests.

Too often, the answers it provides are as underwhelming as its action is woefully underlit.

The back half of the season is better overall. The ending isn’t revelatory, in the sense that it doesn’t quite complete Something’s thoughts on matrimony or family or inherited attitudes toward either, but it’s clever and kind of exhilarating. Characters like Nell and Jules gain some depth. There are a few well-executed twists among the many that are easy to anticipate. But those developments create new problems.

There’s a lot going on, including a spinning of wheels. It may not be “very bad,” I hasten to add, but the “something very bad” in “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” is the pumping of 10 gallons of horror into a 5-gallon vehicle, which never really catches fire and whose wheels fall off.

'Something Very Bad Is About to Happen' tackles the institution of marriage from a psychological (and supernatural) horror perspective. With a vibe similar to 'I'm Thinking of Ending Things,' the miniseries transforms the experience of getting married into a nightmare that exposes the lies and facades that mask the flaws, disappointments, and fears lurking deep within couples. Atmospheric, unsettling, original, and with a touch of dark humor.

Idk why this show got kinda hyped. It’s not scary at all. The pacing is off and kind of slow. It’s not particularly clever. It’s the definition of middling. The story isn’t very inventive. Honestly no point in watching it really as no one aspect sticks out to elevate it to the point of being worth it.

Everything is seen before. There is good idea somewhere deep, i think. Maybe. But then every other idea is getting add on and it becomes just silly and tired.

This is the first producing effort from The Duffer Brothers since “Stranger Things.” Sadly, this series brings little imaginative or special to the genre. Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco are engaged to get married, so they travel to his family’s outpost for the ceremony. Things immediately start to get weird and they continue without any suspense or even anything horrible. The warning is for “gore and violence” and I kept waiting for it to happen. What does happen is lots of boring, repetitive dialogue with a mild sense of foreboding. In the middle of Episode 7, I started to fast forward because nothing of note still hadn't happened. When I finally got to the big bloodbath, it was just that…a lot of blood and not much else. This is the first directorial effort from writer Haket Z. Boston and her script drags on without much real action and her mastery of suspense doesn’t exist. The main thing “bad” is the series itself. (8 one-hour eps)
