Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice

This film was highly enjoyable, offering plenty of action while remaining easy to follow throughout. The pacing was particularly well done, as the story unfolded gradually, revealing key details at just the right moments without giving away what was coming next. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fun action-comedy, and it is definitely one I would watch again. The performances by Vince Vaughn, Eiza González, and James Marsden were especially entertaining—their characters were both hilarious and convincingly portrayed.

A very peculiar premise, featuring gangsters, cheating, and time travel, it's always nice to be surprised. It's a joy to watch this weird, hilarious plot unfold, with its mini-mysteries throughout, and satisfying conclusions. Questions such as, "Who's the mole?" and "How are there two Nick's?" drive it forward, with every question answered in due time. It's a bit disappointing how many are literally, verbally answered, even with flashbacks to supplement. But it's tolerable, as every actor is committed to the outrageous bit. Even one-line characters get a chance to shine, being uniquely idiotic. What sells the film is how improper everybody acts. They get distracted, go on weird tangents, double-take when something freaks them out. It's amusing to watch, as it grounds them in a very human way. The bit gangsters share one braincell, and ham it up hard. Vine Vaughn gives a layered performance as both Nick, the cold-hearted a-hole who doesn't want to be here, and Nick, the scheming fish-out-of-water trying to do the right thing for once. The body-doubling is really well done, and we never struggle to tell them apart. I loved the characters, setting, and dialogue. It can be messy in a fun way, and the same could be said for the production, to an extent. The camera crew must've had fun getting creative angles and getting weird with it, though at times, it's just messy. They really should've shilled for a higher FPS camera, the frequent slow-mo shots got distracting. "Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice" has a lot of little speed bumps, but it's well worth the watch. It's a crime comedy (with a dash of sci-fi) to be remembered.
