For all its bells and whistles, “Project Hail Mary” is also a lovely, bittersweet character study, a pas de deux between man and alien that elicits a surprising amount of emotions by the time the credits roll.

Lord and Miller have created a new sci-fi classic, an incredible adaptation of Weir’s novel, and a film that deserves to be a part of 2027 Oscar consideration already. With Project Hail Mary, Lord and Miller have crafted a film that’s truly out of this world in every possible way.

What are the best movies I’ve ever seen I laughed. I cried several times. I absolutely adore this film.

The film was a revelation for me. I, a 30-year-old man, cried several times during the film. The damn stone played hundreds of times better than 90% of the entire Hollywood cast.. I cared more about the stone's life than my own.. stoneEverything is good in the movie, but the strongest is the script, I shake the hand of the director and the screenwriter, as well as the 3D animators and modelers. And yes, I haven't forgotten about Ryan Gosling, he's amazing, one of the favorite actors of this millennium.

At almost every turn, Project Hail Mary attempts to convince you that it is groundbreaking, innovative filmmaking. But in actuality, the movie lands as a grand act of cinematic recycling – the fusing together of familiar, comforting bits and pieces into something determined to please crowds and warm hearts.

When you can sell a movie in which you spend a large chunk of time talking to a rock and still manage to be magnetic, you're doing something right. And in "Project Hail Mary," Gosling definitely is.

It is such a shame that momentum is allowed to sag as the film shuffles through six endings when either of the first two would do nicely. To that point, Project Hail Mary is a model of high-class popular entertainment. An explicit tribute to a Steven Spielberg classic in the opening third feels like no great overreach.

It’s a crowd-pleasing package, and Gosling is likeable enough to sell even the corniest jokes.

Maybe I’m too reluctant to let go of my reactions to the first trailers for it. But “cloying” is a hard sell at 156 often interminable minutes.

This is the best movie I've seen in 2026. It's a story that moves you on different emotional levels, makes you laugh but stays smart to the science. And the best part is the connection between the two main characters. I could go on and on, instead I recommend you go see it. Your money and time will be well spent! Take a friend of someone special to watch it with.

This feels like The Martian for the TikTok generation. Part great. Part annoying. I buy Matt Damon as a man in space trying to overcome the odds. But Gosling and the Rocky puppet feel too silly to sell the gravity of the situation. But they almost do.

Gosling is great, but the story fails to capture my interest. They could have easily cut a good 10-15 minutes out of it, and the movie would have been much better off for it.

Not clear who this movie is for: it's too long and slow paced to be a kids movie, but then turns into a Pixar-style buddy comedy for children, with an "alien" that might as well be Doug from Up except we've already seen that movie. And much like The Martian by the same author the entire thing is extremely cringe and Reddit, so the answer to "who is this for" appears to be "manchildren".
