A multiplayer experience that offers a realistic point of view of the Medieval melee battles. It's not fit for everyone, but if you get past the glitches and the high difficulty curve, you'll find an enjoyable and addictive game.

Chivalry is slightly… bipolar. The spectacle of a duel (especially if the two opponents are seasoned veterans) can be spectacularly breath-taking, a complex choreography that one can only marvel at. Blocks, feints, slashes, back-steps, side-hits: despite initial impressions, this can be a truly intellectual game of tactics, requiring high skills, observation and deviousness. On the other hand, the spectacle of a massive battle of fifty warriors can be ridiculously chaotic: especially if the players are inexperienced and go for blind “hack and slash” tactics, it’s more like a metal concert mosh pit than a battle for glory and honor. Chivalry is Quake to War of the Roses' Battlefield, and those seeking a faster-paced bloodier experience will undoubtedly prefer Chivalry's type of steel. [March 2013, p.65]

Very fun FPS multiplayer sword play at start, but after some time I started to notice that, in most servers, there're players that seem to take advantage of some movement glitch or are just using cheats, making them almost impossible to kill. This took all the fun of the game.

Çıktığında oynasam belki farklı düşünürdüm ama oynadığım sırada rezalet geldi. Belki bir hikayesi olsa durum değişebilirdi. Oyunun sunucuları yakın zamanda kapandı bu arada.

Great multiplayer game with stunning graphics and a fresh concept. I played a lot of different multiplayer games. Every game was almost identical in terms of mechanics and goal. Shoot the enemies dead. Some games I liked, some games I hated, but then came: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. A multiplayer game in which you walk up to enemies, and chop them in half with swords, axes and spears. Holy shi…..I was baffled by the whole concept of this game and liked it immediately. In this game, you can play classic modes like deathmatch, team deathmatch or Capture the Flag. In addition, you can also play Objective mode, in which you must perform tasks like killing the enemy king (while the other team defends him with their life), or pillage a village, which the other team defends. Like the name suggests, this game really feels like medieval warfare. The mechanics in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare work great. You can hack and slash with your axe or sword and pray to God that you hit someone, or you can tactfully choose your moment to strike, while blocking the enemy attacks and avoid being pierced like cheese by the rain of arrows from other players in the background. When dying in FPS mode, your whole camera shakes and trembles like you are actually falling. This kind of realism really enhanced the experience. The best part is when your head gets separated from your shoulders and your camera rolls around twenty times, so brutal. Matches can be intense and watching the chaos and bloodshed around you from other players is just epic. They are using ballistae, catapults, get burned by hot oil while ramming a gate, get shot by four arrows for trying to take a different, heavily defended path towards the main keep, it is straight from a movie. This game looks amazing. The environments, the details of the weapons, character models and structures, it is glorious. The animations, walk cycles and combat animations are also spot on. Nothing to complain about here. The sound of clanging swords, grunts from fallen players and flying arrows are also excellent. It is sound design like this, that really makes you feel you are playing a multiplayer war game. The gore is brutal in this game and the developers did not hold in. Arms, legs, heads, it can all be removed from ones torso. This is one of the best aspects of the game. You don’t bash an enemy and let him drop dead, no, you stab, slice and mangle him until you are sure that he, and his reincarnation, never stand up again. Nice. The only problem I had with the game is the hit detection. I still don’t know if this is/was because of my immense lack of skill, but many times, I stabbed and sliced, and nothing happened, even when the enemy was not blocking. It is just hard to predict what/when will hit your opponent. The main, and only reason, that I quit playing this game eventually, is that I just **** too hard for intense, multiplayer games like this. I surely had my fun, but when my head (and my monitor screen) rolled around like a football for the millionth time in a match, it was time to try another game. Nevertheless, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a great game and, in my own opinion, one of the better Multiplayer games.

I'm rather enamoured by the unique flavour of online combat presented by Chivalry. It's fresh and fun, and like the very best games is easy to get into yet incredibly hard to master. I've honestly not had this much competitive online joy since Battlefield 3, and to think a $25 indie title can provide a level of enjoyment up there with a $100 million game like Battlefield is testimony to the skill of the developer.

Every hit, parry and block feels real. The sound, the knockback, the weight of the weapon -- it all goes towards making duels seem like a struggle.

A game so fun, my neighbors thought my name was "LEEROY JENKINS" for a couple of months. A guilty pleasure, simple of fun : you can the traditional modes of PvP shooters, but translated in medieval fashion. Headshot with a crossbow ? Nice... Slicing some head with a two-handed sword ? Amazing... Pounding your unlucky adversary with a big axe ? Awesome ! Still a classical !

An immersive, interesting and addictive take on the competitive multiplayer FPS. Go into this one swinging. [Dec 2012, p.72]

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is up to a better start than War of the Roses. Torn Banner Studios have shunned any historical accuracy or character editing options, but their fighting system is easier to learn, while at the same time offering a surprising amount of depth. Dynamic rather than authentic, these skirmishes are much easier to enjoy.

It offers loads of fun and a simple but deep at the same time fighting system. Still far from perfect, but it could get closer to it with a few patches or updates.

Compared to the similar War of the Roses you get tighter controls and more game modes, but it lacks in entertainment value.

Neither fun or enjoyable, this is a huge step back from the original mod Age of Chivalry in almost every way. Everything is simplified and restricted which seems to be the trend these days unfortunately.

This game has a lot of great things going for it, which is why it's a shame that it's challenges overshadow many of those. Combat system requires finesse and offers a decent array of weaponry but is glitchy and often out of sink with the picture. The maps are great but offer unseen traps where characters get stuck on scenery. The UI could use some work, most notably the Find Server screen, which is perhaps the glitchiest thing of all. If you can get the game to work you have a tremendous wealth of multiplayer combat, most of which will be spent fending off your own team mates. This game is packed with team killing. I want to love this game, and I play it over and over again in the hopes that just once I'll leave a session happy. They only tend to end in frustration, however.
