Screamer didn't need much more than anime aesthetic and a whole lot of drifts to catch my attention. Still, it presents an intricate plot and great mechanics that brings some freshness to the arcade racing genre.

Without much fanfare, Screamer is a classic arcade racing game. Authentic and with a vibrant 1980s anime aesthetic, the reboot didn't need to adapt to genre trends to deliver a fun, drift-focused experience. Essentially, the game draws inspiration from its own past to show that arcade-style races are still going strong in 2026.

The team at Milestone have been crafting racing games for more than three decades now, Screamer proving that they aren't afraid of taking risks and trying something new. From its surprisingly fleshed out storylines to its advanced racing gameplay concepts, there are plenty of intriguing ideas at works here though not all them are executed well.

Great arcade car game with actual mechanics, the story takes around 17 to 20 hours to complete. With crossplay addiction, 4 players co-op a fews different single player mode to play this is a great game

Screamer is a bold entry in the genre that refuses to rely on familiar formulas. Instead, the game combines classic arcade elements with tactical depth, unusual controls, and surprisingly strong presentation for a racing game. Not all decisions will appeal to the masses – the controls, in particular, demand patience and adaptation. But therein lies the appeal: Screamer challenges its players and, in return, offers a fresh, unique driving experience. Milestone has achieved more than just a successful revival. It's a confident reinvention that demonstrates just how much innovative potential even an established genre still holds.

First of all it is very good game, I LOVE when racing games have actually complex and interesting story mode, I loved the story by itself, I really liked characters, and voice acting is supreme, and music is excellent, but there are BUTS, It can be really frustrating, like mario karts level frustrating, you will scream, rage and try to eat your joystick, some missions are absurdly hard, you have to race again and again on the same track to understand it just so you have a chance of completing the missions PLUS controls can be and are sometimes unresponsive and I would describe that as a big issue especially in arcade racing game. But if you are like me and you like Motostrorms, Sonic racing and stuff, you will love it, just buy it and enjoy and sometimes suffer, but it is worth it

Milestone has once again demonstrated its mastery of the genre. While the public's attention may be elsewhere at the moment, this experience shouldn't be overlooked. Screamer has become one of my favorite games of the year, and something that will surely be fondly remembered in the future.

Screamer delivers a fresh and frantic arcade experience that stands out through its bold anime aesthetic and unique dual-stick drifting mechanics. While the visual novel storytelling approach in the campaign might feel sluggish for speed purists, the deep gameplay systems and energetic soundtrack provide a highly rewarding sense of speed.

Screamer is a slowburn. Once you understand the driving concepts you’re gonna love this game! Pure fun! Good job devs!

A slow burn at the start but the story and mechanics all seem to click around the 5 hour mark. When they do, HOLY CRAP, are you in for a ride! My favourite arcade racer since Onrush. The mechanics are a mix between Wipeout/Redout and Burnout. Truly a modern classic. Considering picking up a physical copy to ensure I can still play it in 20 years time.

A fast, complex futuristic arcade racer that doesn't shy away from doing things differently. This one is not for everyone, but those that can master the controls and keep their cool will have a blast.

Screamer is a 90s anime-inspired arcade racer with a strong narrative focus. Its stylized futuristic visuals and engaging story, though initially slow, pick up pace, revealing interesting lore and character motivations. The gameplay, while accessible, offers surprising depth, rewarding precise driving and turbo management. Destructible cars and an Overdrive mode add to the excitement. While the game excels in its core mechanics and visual presentation, its biggest flaw lies in unbalanced difficulty spikes, particularly in the story mode, where some challenges feel unfair due to an overly aggressive AI.

Milestone has revived its most iconic franchise, and the immense care and attention put into the project is evident, but the feeling is that it doesn’t quite measure up to the genre’s true classics. Screamer demands far more in terms of gameplay mechanics than it initially appears, so you’ll need to invest some time to fully appreciate everything it has to offer in its races.

Screamer is one of the most visually striking and nostalgically satisfying arcade games to hit the market since the PS3/Xbox 360 era — the golden age of racing. Unfortunately, the game is undermined by frustrating AI and level design that prevents you from fully enjoying the experience it otherwise deserves, given what it has to offer.

Visually striking but overloaded with ideas and mechanics that mostly fail to enhance the fun, and built on a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes arcade racing enjoyable, Screamer comes across as yet another failed attempt by Milestone to create something outside the realm of hardcore motorcycle simulations.

A new type of thinking when drifting a arcade racer.
Very well written story that will involve you if you just give it a chance!
Even if some story take time, I would say thet the balance is perfect in the end.

Needs time to adapt and learn.
For arcade fun too complicated.
But great if you are looking for deeper layers of gameplay.

It looks great, but is still a crappy Milestone game under the hood. Wallride clown fiesta; story mode is a VN snoozefest; engine sounds recycled from Hot Wheels Unleashed - Nice €60 game, Milestone! Don't trust the weebs who give this slop a positive score!
