Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers was a total surprise for me. Before even playing the game, my arm was sore just thinking about the notion of gesture-based combat. However, I came away amused and delighted.

If you're looking for some cheap thrills, you could certainly do worse than this mindless hack-and-slash affair. If a little more work had been put into the game's presentation, this would actually be a highly recommended game.

Despite - or maybe because of - the ridiculous premise, Onechanbara can be quite fun. [Apr 2009, p.65]

It’s fun, chaotic, and unbelievably bloody. But it’s just not enough to make up for the other glaring flaws; gratuitous violence in video games is only as good as the gameplay that backs it up. Think about it.

Simply too shallow to recommend. [Apr 2009, p.80]

There’s no getting around the fact that it’s often more tempting to run past the majority of enemies and complete the game in a couple of hours, than it is to actually brawl your way through. [Apr 2009, p.113]

Titillation just for its own sake seldom works in gaming, but here, it’s been taken to new low. This virtual bikini romp suffers from poor graphics, primitive level design, and controls that will make the player feel like an idiot (or worse). If you really need to see Japanese girls in cosplay outfits to feel manly, just buy some tissue and browse the internet.

If you are looking for a full 30 hour adventure experience, hold your horses because Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers is not an adventure game per se. This game brings to 2009 an arcade experience rescued from the more frenetic pages of late 90's gaming saloons. The most tangible truth about Onechanbara, played on the Nintendo Wii, is that you ought to be open to the whole experience with the wiimote, im talking about shake both controls, so the lack of an "attack" button is something that you have to consider.

If you are looking for silly gory fun this is awesome. It plays well and is just crazy as a game. And who doesn't like bikinis and zombies? This could have been a worse game and I probably would have enjoyed it just for the visuals and the zombie shredding, but it turns out to be a good game overall, with good controls and addicting game play.
