Lies of P: Overture

Close to its 2-year anniversary, the murderous puppet returns with an ever-so-brilliant DLC that not only rivals the design of the original game, but in many aspects surpasses what was puppeteered before. This expansion shines with mechanical brilliance, is drenched in even more oil and blood, and most important of all, shows the amazing snow tech that was developed! Apart from many new bosses, great level design, memorable locations, curious storylines, and a ton of quality-of-life improvements, we are simply getting more of what made Lies of P amazing.

I'm of the opinion that the best expansions are ones that don't just offer a new slice of a game you already love to play, but enhance what was already there. Lies of P: Overture isn't just great in its own right, but it showcases the growth that Round8 has seen over the course of developing the game. Lies of P was already great, and well worth your attention. What Overture succeeds most at isn't just offering more of what players already loved, but perhaps giving us a sneak peek at what players can expect from the studio in the future. Lies of P: Overture feels like a bold, yet simple, statement; we're only just getting started with Lies of P. I can't wait to see what the team has in store for us next.

Lies of P: Overture serves as an excellent return to a game that surprised many players in a good way. The story does a very good job of setting up the events of the main title. The new weapons keep the combat feeling fresh thanks to how dramatically different they are. The game is still tough, especially if it has been a while since you last played the title, but the different difficulty levels help to ease people into a genre that can be notoriously unforgiving. For fans of the game, the Overture DLC feels essential.

If you enjoyed Lies of P, then you'll likely be glad to return to Krat in Overture —to wield new weapons, and face tougher enemies and bosses. The many refinements to the game's details also help make this return journey a much smoother ride.

Lies of P: Overture largely retains the quality of the base game, if not improving upon it in some aspects. While it isn't particularly experimental, it is more Lies of P, and it proves why that isn't a bad thing in the slightest.

The strength of Lies of P: Overture is all in the lore (in part), without disdaining the gameplay (great!), for a satisfying but edgy result, with the same defects of the original game, but also the same merits. Certainly less incisive on the plot factor, but always iconic and fun.

Overture is a prequel DLC that simply provides more Lies of P, and that’s an extremely good thing. The new areas are largely a breath of fresh air, and the added enemy types inject even more variety into a world that was already pretty well-stocked with things trying their absolute best to murder your puppet face. There isn’t much in the way of surprising ideas or interesting new mechanics, but having a fresh set of formidable bosses to take down is compelling enough in its own right, with some of them standing amongst the most exciting encounters that can be found in Lies of P. Couple those with a fully-featured story that’s every bit as satisfying as the original, and this is one creepy puppet show I’m glad to revisit.

The story of this dlc is really good. Also the final boss might be my favorite boss fight in all of gaming.

Mostly an upgrade from the original game, but a few steps back as well. The new bosses are surprisingly few. The new weapons are also small in number but thankfully fun and varied, as you'd expect. The game now has difficulty options. On a few bosses I wondered whether the inclusion of easy modes reduced the amount of time the developers spent on game balance. After all, if a boss is overtuned, players can just lower the difficulty. Your "funny" sidekick is there again, providing commentary that will make you wonder if the developers think that their audience consists entirely of people incapable of putting 2 and 2 together. In the novel, Pinocchio kills the cricket. Lucky bastard. Here we can't even tell ours to shut up. The Tracker, a kind of new character, is a nice addition but largely wasted since you're helping him uncover, like, proof of smuggling and individual murder despite hundred or thousands of people dying everywhere. My man, did you see the zoo? I think we have bigger problems. Finally, Lea was a welcome character, excellently voiced. So as before, the story is quite uneven in quality. Anyway, pick it up on sale if there's ever one.

Premièrement, je tiens à dire que j'avais trouvé le jeu de base excellent, j'avais donc des attentes vis à vis de ce DLC. Deuxièmement, je n'avais qu'une partie en ng+2, je n'avais évidemment pas le temps de refaire une save pour jouer au DLC "normalement". C'est donc le mélange de ces 2 éléments qui fait que j'ai globalement trouvé ce DLC bien en dessous du jeu. J'ai pris bien moins de plaisir à y jouer. Cela est principalement dû au fait que le jeu était terriblement mal dosé en NG+. Si mal dosé que les développeurs ont du faire une mise à jour pour corriger ça. Malheureusement c'était trop ****, j'avais déjà terminé le DLC en difficulté max. C'était pas fun, le moindre mob avait des allures de boss. Que ce soit sa vie qui était colossale ou ses coups qui étaient létaux. L'exploration était donc d'un chiant... chaque mob pouvait me tuer en 2 coups. Heureusement, étant expérimenté sur ce genre de jeu, je n'ai pas trop galéré, mais c'était sans particulèrement m'amuser que j’avançais dans ce DLC. Sur certain boss je ressentais de la frustration. Des boss trop gros avec une hitbox énorme, des combos d'attaque interminable. D'ailleurs les boss sont ratés, sauf 3 sur les 8 qui sont très bien. C'est dommage. Je n'ai pas retrouvé le kiff que j'avais sur le contenu de base. A part sur le boss final (qui est diaboliquement challengeant). Bref avec ce DLC les devs sont un peu tombé dans le piège du "on fait beaucoup plus compliqué qu'avant"... MAIS après le patch d'équilibrage le jeu semble plus correct, or c'est trop **** pour moi. Les zones sont décevantes aussi. La première est incroyable, la deuxième aussi, le reste c'est poubelle. Malgré tout, le DLC est quand même cool. Il a quelques fulgurances et moments marquants, malheureusement il y a aussi trop de moments moyens voire mauvais. Le gros point fort de ce DLC réside dans son histoire et tous les éléments qu'il apporte au lore. Tout le reste est bien en dessous du jeu de base. Cependant je suis obligé de monter un peu ma note car je pense que si j'avais joué après le patch, j'aurais trouvé ce contenu additionnel bien plus réussi et amusant.
