Lies of P: Complete Edition

Lies of P Complete Edition performs wonderfully on the Nintendo Switch 2, inviting both new and existing players to experience the story of Pinocchio in a unique and exciting way.

By bundling the base game with the phenomenal Overture expansion, Lies of P: Complete Edition is the ideal way of playing this tremendous soulslike for the first time. There are some caveats, but performance on Switch 2 is largely solid, with multiple graphics settings available to choose from.

If you couldn’t get your hands on Lies of P yet because of a lack of hardware then the Complete Edition for the Switch 2 is a great choice. It offers the same fantastic gameplay paired with a fresh setting and a dark setting that it already offered on all the other platforms two years ago. While docked you get a very good but not flawless performance. Playing the game in handheld mode is currently a bit of pain because even when putting the focus on performance it doesn’t run very smoothly. The promised day 1 patch should hopefully fix this though and should be ready when you yourself can pick up the game.

Pinocchio hasn't forgotten how to tell lies, and he does so brilliantly on Nintendo Switch 2 as well, thanks to the excellent Complete Edition of Lies of P. The conversion for the hybrid console is top-notch and allows the Switch 2 catalog to be enriched with a quality soulslike that delivers on every front. Just like in the original, the story, gameplay, direction, and setting do not disappoint, with graphics that—especially in Performance mode—manage to do justice to the work of the team at Neowiz and Round8. My advice is to grab a Pro Controller and enjoy this adventure on a good display, though Lies of P is plenty satisfying in handheld mode too, even if the Joy-Con 2 aren't exactly ideal for this genre. Lies of P remains a great game, and an commendable optimization effort allows anyone wanting to play it on a Nintendo console to enjoy it at its best. A few necessary compromises due to hardware limitations are more than acceptable to experience this fantastic soulslike, which, three years after its initial release, still has a lot to say.

If you’re a Switch 2 owner who has missed it up until now, I’d recommend Lies of P: Complete Edition despite the limitations of the hardware.

Lies of P: Complete Edition brings the best Soulslike to the Switch 2. While it’s a mostly coherent port, there are technical snags that drag the experience down. A possible day-one patch could iron out these issues, but if you’re curious about Round8’s debut title, the port is enjoyable as long as you stick to performance mode in the interim.

Lies of P for Nintendo Switch 2 isn't the best version of the game, however, it's considerably better than I dared to hope for. The developers have streamlined the experience to suit the Switch 2's hardware capabilities. A few graphical compromises have been necessary, but the core of the game remains intact, including the atmosphere, the combat, and the distinctive take on Pinocchio, which still delivers an experience ranking among the genre's stronger modern titles. If you own a Nintendo Switch 2 and have been waiting for a reason to wander through Krat's dark streets, there's little reason to hesitate.
