Negatives The game suffers from a huge number of technical issues. I experienced frequent crashes to desktop, NPC conversations getting stuck, enemies clipping into walls or freezing on ladders, as well as constant frame drops and stuttering. Overall, the game feels unstable and unpolished. It also relies heavily on what I'd call artificial playtime extension. There is an excessive amount of backtracking, with NPCs often sending you across the entire map only to immediately tell you to go speak to someone else and then return to them. Many interactions are unnecessarily slow as well. Climbing ladders, opening gates, and similar actions have long, clunky animations. One quest, for example, requires you to hand out water to farmers, forcing you to watch every single NPC go through the same lengthy drinking animation. The lack of an autosave option every few minutes only adds to the frustration by making repeated progress losses more likely. Combat is inconsistent depending on the enemy type. Non-humanoid enemies often have poorly telegraphed attacks with extremely fast, jerky animations, making it frustrating to learn their patterns or reliably dodge and parry. Humanoid enemies, on the other hand, are much better designed and provide genuinely enjoyable combat encounters.Finding NPCs can be a nightmare. Characters constantly change their locations, often with little indication of where they've gone, forcing you to spend large amounts of time running around simply trying to continue **** game also wastes a significant amount of the player's time through excessive travel and counterintuitive design decisions. One of the most useful early-game mounts, which dramatically reduces travel time, is locked behind selecting the exact same dialogue option three times in a row—even after your character has already rejected it. Expecting players to repeatedly choose an option that has already failed just to unlock such an important feature feels incredibly unintuitive. The three combat styles are also poorly balanced. Magic is by far the weakest. There is no practical way to replenish mana besides constantly smoking or drinking potions, spells require long channeling times, and they often deal less damage than simply swinging a sword or firing ranged weapons. On top of that, you can't truly play as a dedicated mage until Chapter 3, and even then you're limited to a handful of weak spells, with only a single offensive rune and a few scrolls available beforehand. The Positives Despite all of its flaws, the game absolutely nails the feeling of starting as a powerless nobody and gradually becoming a true powerhouse. The world, story, factions, characters, and overall atmosphere are engaging enough to keep pulling you back in. Enemy variety is excellent, the lighting is beautiful, the soundtrack is legendary, and the game refuses to hold the player's hand, making exploration and progression feel rewarding. Conclusion What hurts the most is just how much potential this game has. Beneath the technical problems and unnecessary time sinks lies an excellent RPG with an incredibly immersive world. I genuinely can't wait to play the Gothic 2 Remake—I just hope it launches in a much more polished state and trims down many of the mechanics that exist solely to waste the player's time.

A remake that actually understands what made the original **** extremely faithful remake. I played the original as a kid, and precisely because this stays so close to the original in its mechanics, "that old feeling" comes right back. Simply **** graphics are an absolute knockout — the level design, the textures, the forests, and in places even the faces and robes are incredibly well done. It's also great how dense the world feels; there's no wasted space. When I see that the press average on Metacritic sits somewhere in the 70s, it confirms something I've noticed for a while now: there's a gap between how I perceive and experience games and how the gaming press does. What could have been done better:Not every bug needed to be preserved. The unfinished arena-tournament idea in the Old Camp is still there, and I keep reading about quests that don't fire properly — though I didn't run into those issues much myself. Magic gameplay also doesn't quite work for me yet. I never feel like a powerful mage. In certain situations I have to swap armor, and then enemies are suddenly immune to spells that are supposedly devastating. Ball Lightning from Circle 2 ends up being literally the best spell in the game, while Firestorm or Breath of Death get me nowhere in a lot of fights. It's just weird. The same goes for how the world reacts to you. I can walk around as an all-powerful mage and people still tell me to get lost, or don't respond any differently after I've dealt with the ore heap. That hurts the sense of a living world, and it didn't need to be carried over so faithfully. With the graphics, the developers clearly decided to fix the limitations of the era — they could have done the same for world reactivity and maybe some of the dialogue. Speaking of dialogue: the German narrator/voice direction doesn't land well, something went wrong in the booth. The guest dub by the YouTuber HandOfBlood doesn't work either. That only affects the German version, though.

My god, I loved this game! But I had a lot of bugs, some gamebreaker as well. I.e.: before the credits, I dead, and after the re-load the script didn't start, so I re-load a previous one. And the sound is gone, I heard only the music. Or. etc etc. I can continue, but I don't want. This game is absolute likeable remake, beautiful graphics, the hud is awesome, the story is still fine, and the map. ahh I love it! Not too big but it is full with life! Please continue the development with the second part!!!! Btw the limited edition worth it. Absolute!

Old school brought for new generation. Spectacular game. The feeling of progressing almost like newbie gains at the gym.

A game born from another era, a faithful remake that manages to reconstruct with loyalty and respect one of the best dark fantasy RPGs from the early 2000s. It’s not without its flaws—bugs and optimization issues, partly due to UE—but the spirit is there. The game is super fun, challenging, and immersive!

Trolle to jakiż żart i łateij je ubić niż ścierwojada (oczywiście w danym etapie gry). Polecam wszystkim sprawdzić i ocenić gre samemu.

It's an absurdly decent remake! Where the original was lacking (areas/quests/stories were missing, mainly because of time and budget), the remake expands, it adds some flavour to the already known features and quests and tweaks some bits and pieces to better fit the world. Visually, the Mining Valley is a treat and I swear this is how I pictured it the very first time I played original Gothic. Sure, the game could better solve the armour distribution (too many and too often towards the end) and armour strength (mage armours are super meh), they could also add a fully developed alternatives for that 1 item you find in the final location (U****el), so it fits every playstyle (1H, Bow and an X-bow mainly), but maybe in the future? Overall, a super solid remake of a legendary classic - grab it and enjoy!

At launch it was probably for me an 7 or less, but now it is very good. I like how the Characters react to certain answers, how hard it is at the beginning until your Character is skilled enough

The game requires for player to approach it like a real life adventure, and have to prepare itself mentally and embrace a mindset for a tough and complex journey ahead, you cannot just simply rush through and expect everything to go as smooth and ad planned, you have to think ahead of time, you cannot attack anything out there without considering the outcome, and when you get stronger after all the struggle of experiencing and exploring the world, you become an unstoppable force that will make everyone obey you. Thus the progression is satisfying, any npc is killable, the world is too open to explore, the story is too flex and bends to your choices and to your liking. The graphics are wonderful, swimming and diving is so fun and wonderful in this game. Economy is balanced and doesn't let you exploit its economy, many professions to pursue, very interesting story, the unknown personalities and there is simply no good and bad fight, it is all different personalities but they are all criminals at the end, lockpicking is pretty hard and challenging as it should be. Only problem was the framerate drops because of the engine, bit it wasn't that horrific, it was enough to handle. Thus, great game, thank you for bringing old school RPG to gaming world to save us from monoton, same copy paste modern RPGs out there.

Welcome back to the Colony. After years of waiting, the remake is finally out, and I’ll keep me ****’s a good game that expands on the original’s story, fills in plot holes, and adds new quests. However, it also alters the story in certain places—some changes expand the lore, while others change significantly from the original. There were a few bugs at launch, but I was largely spared from them, so I can only say it’s a very good game.

Fell in love for the second time. It's exactly what I wished for. The same experience in polished visuals. It's true to the original. When games had what they lost today. Immersion that drags you in. A rewarding progression. An authentic world setting. No stupid mini map or markers. Forces the player to think. Typical difficulty of games back then.. when the term "soulslike" wasn't invented but the actual standard difficulty in basically every single game. Requiring you to adjust your strategy or focus on leveling up first. Luckily I didn't see any relevant bug within 85 hours of gameplay. The only con is Unreal Engine and squishy performance at times which could need optimization. Otherwise I consider it a great remake and looking forward to gothic 2 remake. Well done.

Having played the original 3 games, I was a big fan of the series. I played their first demo which was testing the waters and that had me be extremely sceptic about how the final game will be. Imagine my surprise when I jumped on to the game at launch and saw that everything that made the original gothic a masterpiece was still there and then some more. Absolutely love the game. At this point I'm at 150 hours played and on my third playthrough as a member of the third faction (swamp camp). Highly recommend the game to anyone looking for a fun, satisfying and immersive adventure.

I haven't played the original Gothic. But playing this takes me back at least 15 years - the design is just so 2000s and I love everything about it. I haven't had so much fun in a long long time. The progression from a nobody dying to a molerat or getting pushed over by every bully in the colony to a hero who can one-hit those previous bullies is just so satisfying. The only issue with the game is the lockpicking system - it is simply not fun, wastes too much time and a failed experiment in my opinion. It takes several minutes even with a guide - so it's definitely severely overtuned. Now i really really hope we get Gothic 2 Remake!

This game is really a slap in your face, a game that tells you wake up man you're not playing the usual game that holds your hand, i'm bringing you something that will knock you off ! Here you gonna start a rookie and die a lot, struggle and fall on every step, so get prepared to get back up, learn how to improve and find your way through all by yourself ! It's almost like a real life fantasy rpg simulator on a world you don't know, and you know what ? It's **** awesome !!! See souls game ? No map, no explanation, try hard and succeed ?! Gothic came on 2001, and that's the masterpiece that inspired not only Miyazaki cause Gothic has quite a lot more meat on its bones. There are so many incredible conception details in this game that had been created for the sake of making it an outstanding and unforgettable experience especially to many hardcore gamers ! Which also means it's not for everyone, only for those who want a real immersive medieval fantasy experience in a dynamic living world with an amazing progression system and an incredible quests structure, all in all one of the best and historical rpg of all time.

As a fan of Gothic series (Gothic 1-3) I played a lot of Gothic 1 and especially Gothic 2. If I should compare the original game and remake, it is of course, by all means much nicer and less clunky in remake. Although it is still in some way clunky, that's the style. Music was made by Kai Rosenkranz, which is the original developer, and that original touch is pretty noticeable. You know it's good, when you enjoy the music over and over again (New Camp music). There is a lot of additions in comparison with original, which is good, that developers tried to make something more. Some new locations, quests and crafting are present. Unfortunately some stupid illogical things from original are here as well. Also problem of Gothic 1 was long traveling between camps in later part of the game before you had teleportation stones. It is a bit easier here thanks to some "tool" (don't want to spoil it). Still, you spend too much with traveling, because you don't know if it's time to go here and there in order to move on with some quest. Instructions are not always that clear. Possibility to use two-handed weapons should be present from the beginning not from the half of it. Parrying is not that satisfying as it was in G1, they should have add "wait" function and I think making orcs without that terrifying yelling at you before and during fight is a bad thing (like in original). Orcs were scary and the yelling made them scary even more, which increase the atmosphere of the main enemy of people and servants of dark god. Which reminds me voice acting. English voice acting seemed a bit weird, like every sentence was some serious stuff. Maybe it was just my feeling? Played after release. So, there were bugs that were pretty annoying. Like you couldn't talk to Xardas's demon second time and difficulty of final boss. Before patch too easy and after patch insanely hard. However, that won't be an issue soon, because one thing was fixed, the other will be as well I guess. Maybe it looked like I'm rather complaining, but original games were really important for me, so I can't not to mention some things. To sum it up, it is a great game and I can recommend it. Great way to start the series for new generations of players that wouldn't play old game.Game takes around 50-60 hours.

I don't care about how good or bad the gamplay might be, I don't care about the UI being so faithful it annoys kids who need a TikTok explaining everything they have to do, I don't care about anything: If you are remaking a game, you need to make the same game, that means no censorship, period.

Fantastic remake. I really love the game and the new stuff they put into the remake. I played Gothic a lot as a child and finished Gothic 1, 2 and 3 all a few times, so I might be a bit biased, but the remake is a game which really makes me want to spent a lot of time playing a computer game again which didnt happen for a long time with any other game. There are tiny things which are not perfect and the lock picking system is to hard for my liking, but this could also be just a skill issue on my side. I really hope that there will also be a remake of the second part which I love even more than the first Gothic.

Excellent progression system and RPG mechanics. The adventure is fun and makes me want to explore every bit of the map and get to know every character. After so many open world games with huge maps, this one presents a charming, smaller map, but dense and full of riches.

In their desperate attempt to please original fans, the developers have completely alienated and abandoned the modern gaming audience. We are in 2026, yet the game refuses to offer proper navigation tools or a modern user interface to guide you. Out of the 5 hours I spent during my initial playthrough, a solid 4 hours were wasted just running around aimlessly, trying to figure out where to go, back and forth between the Old Camp and the Swamp Camp. You spend so much time acting as an errand boy in a pointless marathon that it’s impossible to even immerse yourself in the world or its atmosphere.Anyone lured in by the graphics and expecting a smooth, modern action-RPG will be bitterly disappointed. By throwing player comfort, quality-of-life features, and contemporary game design out the window in the name of "preserving the original spirit," they’ve made a game that feels ancient. It might be a dream come true for nostalgia-blinded veterans, but with its rigid combat and tedious backtracking, there is absolutely no reason for a newcomer to endure this torture. Slapping a fresh coat of polish on old ashes doesn't turn it into gold.

I will not judge the Gothic Remake as a Game but as a Remake. Almost everything looks and sounds uncanny, especially the Nameless Hero. He is also named Hero in the subtitles, which just doesn't feel right. His voice is so different but his death-scream is the same as in the original. The People AI doesn't care much of who I am or what I did. After I kicked their butt, they still talk with me and don't fear me when I start another fight. Melee doesn't feel like Gothic Yank. Its still more challenging and fun than most modern Games but still somehow wrong. Most things I liked of the Story and Interactions are copied from the Original and i don't know if I should give them Credit for that or not. The new content is mostly ok and kinda fits but most of them feel more like a fan made mod instead of something that the developer intentionally implemented. I'm also not a fan of UnrealEngine5. It simply makes most games seem cheap and soulless. For some background of myself, I also played the orignal Spyro and Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and their Remakes, I would give the Crash remake 98%. Spyro 1 almost perfect except the censorship, Spyro 2 was Catastrophic and Spyro 3 was ok, not bad, not good.

I’d never played the original, but now I’ve “caught up” on this classic. The world-building and the difficulty level are insane. I had a few rage quits at first, but it keeps pulling you deeper and deeper in. Our character is not a hero, he's a nobody. And the game makes us feel that throughout the entire experience. Story, characters, quest design, motivation: everything’s top-notch. But the environment design is a half-hearted collection of off-the-shelf Quixel/Unreal assets. Aside from the characters and creatures, almost nothing here was designed by the developer themselves. That’s embarrassing. And for a remake, that’s a deal-breaker for me. Many Unreal games make exactly this mistake, from Stellar Blade to Lies of P, but the Gothic 1 remake is particularly egregious, since literally the entire game world outside the camps is a soulless asset flip. My biggest criticism, though, is the lockpicking. This system is absolutely absurd. It might be fun as a standalone puzzle game app, but in a game that already demands everything from the player, it’s simply one slap in the face too many. Even at the highest lock-picking level, you can’t get past the locks. The developer seems to be making it clear: You’re not supposed to steal. Because it isn’t rewarded. Complex locks are a test of patience. I’ve read online about people spending realtime HOURS trying to open a SINGLE chest. Meanwhile, the in-game clock keeps ticking. Staying undetected is therefore impossible. I've spent 300 Ores and 20 LPs in lockpicking for what? To get trolled by the developers. For me it's 100% clear, this lockpicking system is made with AI. No human brain would create such puzzle.

It’s a great remake that truly captures the atmosphere of the original, and the gameplay immediately feels familiar. At the same time, many elements have been modernized and refined in a positive way. The graphics are impressive, and while the German voice acting varies in quality, it’s generally solid. Unfortunately, there are still a few bugs here and there. The game remains one of the more unforgiving RPGs, yet it manages to keep you engaged because every upgrade feels meaningful. Still, it can be frustrating at times.

They don't make them like this anymore. A true old school explore and adventure type of experience. No yellow paint, no minimap, no golden arrow, no hand holding. At the very start you are weak, the world is scary and dangerous, but you can learn and master everything - be it archery, swordfighting or magic. Dense open world, great soundtrack (better than OG even), rewarding progress. Only problem - quite buggy, but for me the fun overshadowed the technical glitches (no hard lock, just a few crashes), thus the experience was overall great. The developers did a masterful remake, so buy, play it and hope for Gothic 2 remake.

The game really likes to waste my time.. Wayayay too much. So I do this review, people like a lot of things about this game, I sort of do like the rigid structure but constant going back and forth so slowly is unbearable. Let alone lost multiple hours of gameplay due to save system, better mod support is needed to help the game to basic functionality.. Wasted too much of my time.

Right up my alley! Brutally difficult and punishing in the beginning, but as you gain experience and slowly build your reputation the game opens up. I also love that the characters feel like they actually live there, no one is particularly happy (except from mud) and no one thinks you’re going to survive more than a day. I’ve had a few bugs and two crashes in 20 hours of gameplay, but nothing game breaking and certainly not anything that’s rare in a rpg game. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who’s into action rpgs. Only reason I won’t give it a ten is because it’s unreal engine 5, so it’s poorly optimized and it has the typical lumen artifacts of ”boiling” in poorly lit areas.

This game doesn't hold your hand and that just a good thing - you need to ingest all that happens in the game with your senses and that makes the game super captivating. And it's a huge challenge until the end of the game (the last boss is hard, though) if you've done good choises along the way. It's a big buggy, but looks and sounds gorgeous. Took me 87 hours to complete the game and I slept too little during that time. Also the characters have memorable personalities. I really hope they'll make Gothic 2 Remake.

I waited until I finished it before posting the review. Really, really good! Besides being a blast from my youthful memories, having finished it thousands of times as a child, this is a remake that perfectly embodies the old game, retaining the style and intensity (as well as the difficulty and NPC interactions) of the old Gothic. From my point of view, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Western RPGs. PS. Don't be fooled, it hasn't aged badly like the Oblivion Remaster, which I enjoyed, but it doesn't quite match the current intensity. PSS. I really hope Alkimia makes a 2nd game as well (I wouldn't mind a 3rd game, but 2nd is my favorite).

Nostalgia and the hard start sold me on this game. 74h and finished it on lvl 40 while killing almost everything(only left New Camp and Orcish Settlement intact). I loved the game but couldn't give it a higher score because of the technical state of it on PS5. It's playable and you can finish it but every 10-15 minutes I had to restart the game because voice would start overlapping during dialogues or background sounds would randomly disappear. Also, I've had around 12 crashes during the entire game so while I strongly recommend this title I would wait, let's say a year, before immersing yourself in the mining colony :)

I had a great time with the remake. While the game still needs polishing and bug fixes, it successfully captures the spirit of the original while modernizing the presentation. For me, it was an enjoyable adventure, a satisfying RPG experience, and a nostalgic return to a world I was happy to revisit.

Remake that returns my childhood, but now it looks and feels more modern(in good way), gameplay still hardcore for begining, then it just goes on main story where the difficulty goes normal, and sometimes gives you new side quest which doesn't were in original. the story stays loyal to og but have some minor changes that looks more adequately than in og and fixes story and lore holes from 2001 game, UE5 optimization is surpisengly good. Gameplay need some time to adapt, but trust me its worth it. The only not good thing in remake is lockpicking mechanic, its ffs so annoyin, i prefer more old system with left right turning, more easy and understandable, they just could do it more harder, i mean make more up,down, left, right for no level of lockpicking, downleftright for second level and on third level just left, right like on og and that would be perfect. Anyway i realy satisfied this remake, the devs understand the og idea good and not dissapoint fans of the series and legacy of Piranha bites team, hope sales goes good and we gonna see the Gothic 2 Remake!

This is a rushed game where rushed patches introduce more bugs than they fix. It heavily taxes modern hardware while still delivering subpar visuals due to poor optimization. Frame generation is practically mandatory here but it exposes the bugs in Unreal Engine 5's Lumen technology, causing a drop in visual quality for characters in motion. To make matters worse, save files occasionally disappear, crashes are common, and the gameplay feels unbalanced and fundamentally unpolished. I know the original Gothic 1 was a clunky and unpolished game, but adding new technical bugs to it is just unacceptable. Despite all this, I should probably give this game a score between 3 and 5 because its playable. However, due to the massive wave of blinded fanboys review bombing it with 10s, I am giving it a total zero to balance things out and make it fairer.

If you keep at it, after about 30 hours or so the game gradually turns into Witcher3Jokes aside I have no nostalgia for Gothic, hadn't even heard of it until that boxer Jan Błachowicz mentioned it in a random interview I saw a clip of on Instagram. And this is AMAZING. Yes there might be performance issues, and it doesn't have that AAA polish, but the core of the game is just so unique and enjoyable that I cannot put it down. Absolutely worth full price to me.

It's been a long time since I felt this good playing a single-player game. The game captures the feeling of the original. Thank you for this opportunity to bring this story back to life !!
