Don't let Dark Cloud 2's mediocre predecessor deter you from experiencing this masterpiece which is about as close to a genuine work of art you can get from a video game... Easily one of the most addictive, most fun games available for the PlayStation 2.

Not only does this version of Dark Cloud look beautiful, but it has a little something for everyone, action and exploration, character customization and development, magic and technology, city building, and a wonderful captivating story... [and] it does them all exceptionally well.

It’s no "Wind Waker" (then again, what is?) but, in its own quiet and subtle way, developer Level-5’s dungeon-clearing RPG is as amusing and polished an entry into the genre as anything Miyamoto has designed for the past two generations of Nintendo consoles.

This game has a lot going for it, and as my introduction to the short-lived series, I really enjoyed it. The characters are full of personality and the art style is simply fun. I often found myself roaming around just to look for the most beautiful landscapes. Combined with superb voice acting and a charming story, it is a title I would recommend anyone give a try. It offers a variety of mechanics and features, making the possibilities feel endless and capable of stretching playtime into the hundreds of hours. That said, it is not perfect. The gameplay can become repetitive, with endless dungeons and the need to grind for progress occasionally making things feel stale. Still, despite a few imperfections, there is plenty to enjoy. From slaying enemies to snapping photos to craft new equipment to rebuilding villages. Overall, it’s an experience well worth diving into.

This is my childhood game. It may not be a perfect game but what game is truly perfect?
I remember sitting in front of my tv as a 8 year old boy going on such a great adventure and here I am at 29 getting the platinum trophy and reliving every bit of that magic. This game pioneered the world building genre in my opinion and is a fantastic jrpg that is so underrated. So please if you are reading this review please due this beautiful game a much needed favor and give it a chance.

The overall score is based on how much fun I personally had with every component of the game and the overall experience.

We've marvelled at the luscious visuals, wept at a tragic twist in the plot (true), slaughtered untold numbers of evil minions and after 60 hours of adventuring, still haven't tired of it. [GamesMaster]

From the incredible graphics, to the great sound, to the refined gameplay, Dark Cloud 2 just oozes of quality and polish.

It's a lot like going to your favorite restaurant, ordering your favorite dish, taking a bite and finding a hair in it.

Sure, the game is infinitely more impressive when each piece is broken down, but with an experience that begs to be played ad infinitum, yet quickly screams to be over long before it finally ends, the whole experience can feel a little flat.

Sadly, Dark Cloud 2’s shining moments are outweighed by the mediocre inclusion of the random dungeon, and the tragic design decisions the developers chose to implement.

This is the first game I've ever played and it's still the love of my life.

One of the best games i'd ever played. A game ahead of its time. Has many activities to do, ranging from fishing to the notorious spheda. there is a very consistent system of weapons evolution that is likely to please the majority, since it is simple, but well functional and dynamic. A great but underrated RPG

The first game was a masterpiece. This is a game for children, repetitive, confusing and that has no connection with the first

I love the first Dark Cloud, and I am absolutely baffled at how much more popular the second game is by comparison. The is the most I’ll-designed game I’ve ever played. The combat system is entirely imbalanced—to level up my weapons, I basically just used the RidePod to kill everything and then switched characters to absorb the ABs. So what’s the point of having a variety of different weapons at all? The monster-transformation feature was phoned in—leveling was a grind, and they didn’t adapt the combat mechanics to the monsters you could fight as. For instance, to unlock a target, you have to press back+O, but when you do this with a monster, it just turns the character around (whereas the main characters stay facing the target), so it basically is impossible to unlock a target when using the monster transformation. There are a number of other oversights with the combat controls that should have been fixed before release (the changing camera orientation, for example, also screws up the combat direction-dependent combat controls). Overall, the big boast of the game is that it take like 300 hours for completionist runs, but this is only because the entire game is a numbingly tedious grind. I’m not sure why so many people like this game more than the first, but their opinions are bad and they should feel bad.
Summary[Known as "Dark Chronicle" in the UK] Live the adventure of an inventive young man, visited by a protector of the future. Rely on your creative ability to rebuild destroyed worlds, invent equipment needed for your journey and repair weaponry damaged in battle. Your efforts will determine the outcome of things to come.
