Buggy, and just absolutely ridiculously bad when it comes to the control system. You blow through all your bullets because you can't actually tell if you're pointing at the zombie or not, and with a few exceptions, you can't actually KILL them. So you waste most of your bullets TRYING to down them, only to then have to waste more once they get up and start walking again. I never played the original RE games but there's no way they could have been like this game, or they would never have become the classics that they are now.

This game would have been almost perfect if not for the graphics issues I encountered. They were pretty extreme at certain points, with backgrounds not rendering and characters' words desyncing from the audio. Other than that? The acting was excellent, it was funny, scary, and I enjoyed the story and characters a lot. They were weird and awkward and fun, and overall I just thought this was an excellent successor to Until Dawn.

Fun enough... Until you start playing against the AI opponents in the tournaments. An AI that is difficult to compete against is fine; an AI that pockets all the balls before I ever have a chance to take a turn is bull. And this wasn't just a one-off, it happened MULTIPLE times, which was absolutely ridiculous. In that same vein, not being able to fast-forward or skip through the AI's gameplay (i.e. they take their turn but I don't have to watch all of it) is particularly frustrating, because it turns the game into Spectating Simulator real fast when you're up against an AI that's just pocketing all the balls. Now I'm just watching a computer play pool for five minutes before losing a match without ever taking a turn.

This game degrades the longer you play it. I can't remember exactly, but you play something like 10 puzzle levels every chapter, and there's seven chapters, so that's about seventy levels. And they are all basically the same kinds of puzzles. I assumed that the "absorb and shoot energy into holes" puzzles would only be for one chapter, and that each chapter would bring a new style of puzzle. I was wrong, and BOY does it get old about halfway through. The story started intriguing as well, but eventually went downhill. I just don't care about these characters, and the tedium of the puzzles absolutely **** the life out of the story as well; spend half an hour chipping through a particular puzzle and you've completely forgotten everyone's names, never mind why it was you were trying to find them.

That this game requires a phone or tablet to play is ridiculous. I play games solo, as a rule. The option to use a controller instead of wrestling with a tablet would have made this a thousand times less painful. I have an ethernet cable that connects my console to a router SPECIFICALLY because my wifi is spotty and unreliable. Every time the wifi stutters or stops for a second, the game grinds to a halt and warns me I've disconnected. Of course, sometimes it takes a second to register a disconnection. And sometimes that happens during a time-sensitive decision I have to make, and I'm left sitting there watching Becky make a choice that's gonna get her killed because I physically cannot intervene to save her. This was a shame. The acting was good, the characters graphically looked good (the backgrounds, on the other hand...), and the mystery was intriguing. I just don't get forcing people to use phones or tablets for this game when they're playing solo. Even just the option to just a controller would have been so much better.

Journey to the Savage Planet8

Pros: Funny, action-packed, beautiful environments. I really enjoyed the fact that you can bury your "past" bodies; it was a funny little side-mission. Lots of stuff to do, lots of things to collect. This game did not crash even once on me, and I cannot recall the graphics bugging or acting up at all. It also doesn't drag on forever. Cons: Some of the missions are bizarrely difficult (one of the science experiments in particular is hellish), the terrain is tricky to traverse and backtrack through sometimes. My one REALLY big complaint, however, is that you cannot pause this game. If you hit the menu button, or even try to tweak the settings, you are subject to being attacked and your only warning will be a vibrating controller. Overall I liked this game. It was frustrating at points, but not insurmountable.

Far Cry 66
Jan 1, 2022
Pros: -Beautiful game, really felt they did a good job diversifying the environment. -Enjoyable combat and mechanics. -I liked that there's still base-building (gathering supplies to upgrade hideouts and such, which I enjoyed in 4 and New Dawn as well) -Like Far Cry 5, more effort was put into developing the resistance characters than just the villains -Nice selection of Fangs for Hire, glad that they kept that feature. -Giancarlo Esposito provides a great performance as Anton Castillo. Very sinister. Cons: -There's so much going on with upgrades and supremos and gear that it gets a bit messy. I get being ambitious, but there's a point where it just gets overcrowded. The way in which one upgraded or altered weapons wasn't the most straight-forward process either. -Did not like the fact that skills are attached to clothes and items instead of a skill tree. -Was not fond of the vehicle handling. Felt that the cars were way too easy to flip or upset. -While I enjoyed the base-building, it was not as comprehensive as New Dawn's system. -The story was weak. Part of what made me like Far Cry 5 so much was that I liked a lot of the side-characters; I felt that they were developed as individuals very well, and therefore felt invested in their fates. I didn't really get attached to any characters in this game. -Anton Castillo is a great villain, but he isn't nearly as present in this game as Vaas, Pagan, or the Seeds were in their games. On a series that gets its fame for its villains, that's a big misstep. No point in having a great actor if you're not going to under-use him. -I was also not into some of the political stuff in this game. Previous games took stabs at different political figures here and there (Obama in 4, Trump in 5) but for the most part focused on greater themes about loyalty, power, peace, war, human nature, etc. There were points in Far Cry 6 where the line was crossed from "the game is depicting mature themes" to "the game is preaching to me about how to feel about different topics". The best media lets you draw your own conclusions instead of spoon-feeding it to you. This was not a bad game, per se. But bigger isn't always better, and I feel like Ubisoft would do better by scaling back a bit in whatever they do next. Like sure, offer loads of side-quests like the Yaran stories, the treasure hunts, the Lighters in 5, etc- but don't lose focus of the plot, and don't over-complicate the mechanics.

Horror Adventure1
Nov 21, 2021
-Glitchy (if you find yourself trapped in a particular hallway with a couch and bedroom, walk around and hit x and MAYBE you'll accidentally pick up the key that's supposed to be on the floor) -Cheap jumpscares that are barely frightening (an actual haunted house would be scarier) -The ghosts aren't dangerous until APPARENTLY?? the very ending, where you get a Game Over if you... IDK, let it touch you, even though that hasn't been a problem throughout 99% of the rest of the game? Extremely irritating, since there's a trophy attached to completing the game that you apparently don't get if you get a "Game Over". Oh, and that 'Game Over'? It really is GAME OVER, as in you need to start the game all over again. You get to go and clunk back through the game all over again to get right back to the ending where the game doesn't tell you what to do to "complete" it. Low effort game. Only compliment I can sorta give is the graphics. Don't waste your money on it.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes8
Nov 14, 2021
My one major complaint about the game is that it seems to be having a lot of glitch issues, primarily with loading the texture of the backgrounds and character features (ex. sometimes the blood and grime on Rachel's face disappeared, or didn't load). Story-wise, the situation between Nick, Eric, and Rachel had me rolling my eyes a little too. Other than that? I thought this was a major improvement over the last two games in terms of horror and mystery. They really had some good twists to explain what was going on, and because the game didn't have the same twist as the last two, even replaying the game you're still on your toes trying to keep the characters alive. It's a much more tense experience, which is what I'm looking for in a horror game.

Solid survival game. They really did a great job creating unique and different biomes to keep you interested. And boy, do those Reaper Leviathans keep you on your toes. I had only two complaints: One, the load times could get a bit lengthy (upwards of four minutes, a few times). This is notable because second, the Prawn Suit that you can construct in-game has a very bad habit of getting stuck in the Alien Facilities you enter. In my case, the only way I could unstick them was by rebooting the game and loading my last save. I became intimately familiar with the loading screen for a while there. In the grand scheme of things, though, these were relatively minor complaints. I still highly recommend the game.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I really felt the story and side-characters were fun and well-developed, and there were so many different things to do an explore on the map. My only complaints are that A) the graphics got a bit janky at times, and B) they somehow managed to come up with a side activity MORE annoying than paper-chasing, in the form of the Cairn Stacking Challenges.

Twin Mirror5
Jan 19, 2021
This game feels... Neglected. I liked Sam. I thought he was an interesting character, and I thought the premise of the game (the mystery, the twin, the aspect of the mind palace) were intriguing good starts. I additionally like that the game took place in West Virginia, which (Fallout aside) is not a common stomping ground for a lot of video games. And that's about where my interest ends. The cons: -The game's graphics are glitchy at many, many points. Seemed to go really nuts during the big finale. A lot of times, the characters' mouth movements didn't sync up to the audio. -Characterization was thin for everyone except for Sam, Anna, and Bug. -The story feels choppy and rushed, like things might have been cut out or changed and never adjusted for everything to flow better. -The game was a bit too short to justify the cost. Like, it's the same price as The Dark Pictures games, but even those are a lot longer and have more going on. This game just feels incomplete. It feels like something that was supposed to be about the same length as Life is Strange, or even the Dark Pictures games, but something (covid19, disinterest, lack of money, priority focus on other projects) just led to the game not being as complete as it would originally have been. It genuinely feels like dontnod intended to make a game bigger and more comprehensive, if only by a bit, than this one, and then had to scale it down for one reason or another. That's the vibe that I get, and the end result is a game that doesn't hit right. I'd gladly play another game as Sam, but God, they gotta make sure everything's clean and done next time.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope8
Nov 10, 2020
I think this game is a MASSIVE improvement over Man of Medan. The mystery was much better (Man of Medan gave it away a little too quickly) and the atmosphere was even creepier. I also felt the characters were developed much better than in Man of Medan. My main complaints are A) that there were some glitchy moments (not many, largely graphics issues) and B) that the big twist of the game was essentially the same as Man of Medan- I won't spoil it, but if you've played both games you'll know what I mean. I'm not usually one to do the "Oh, ignore the bad reviews" thing, but I will say this: Much like Until Dawn and Man of Medan, Little Hope is not an action-packed game. It's a lot of walking, relationship/character development, and making choices that determine the outcome of the game. Some people are into that, and some people are not. Also, re: the ending: Much like Man of Medan, whether or not the ending comes as a surprise depends entirely on how many "Secrets" you've found within the game. The dots connect a lot easier if you've been keeping an eye out for the Secrets. The game wasn't perfect, but overall I thought it did a good job.

Those Who Remain8
Sep 10, 2020
I think this game is an interesting, if not a little clunky, tribute to Silent Hill. It's got the themes of forgiveness and condemnation and being trapped in your own personal hell, which I thought was interesting. And it was definitely creepy, and terrifying at parts: The constant presence of the figures in the dark keeps you on edge, especially if you have to edge into a room to turn on a light. The stalker monster in the game presented a challenge as well. That being said, the game's interactivity can be limited, and sometimes you end up spinning your wheels trying to figure out what to do next. There's a LOT of searching for clues/information in this game, and when the developers have made every locker, drawer, and box openable, it can be a daunting task. Not an A+ game, but I thought it was a pretty good one otherwise.

If you liked the Forest, this is a decently similar kind of game. Of the positives, the game presents a decent survival challenge- you really have to stay on top of food and water acquisition, and there are limited medical resources if you are, say, bitten by a snake. You also have a number of islands to visit for different resources, and start off with a raft you can use to get from place to place. Some of the other reviews I've seen here criticizing the game have said things that are simply untrue: You can absolutely change the sensitivity of the camera movement, you can get water from a few different sources (it's tricky, though- again, the game is presenting a challenge, and maintaining a source of water and food is part of that challenge), and you CAN sleep for (most) of the nigh. Other things, however, are true: The game is glitchy in some places (twice now I've had a boar I was hunting just totally, graphically freak out and bounce all over the place). Hunting land-game in general is a bit clunky, although you don't really have to since crabs and fish are easily acquired. And it is true that sharks can throw you out of a boat. I agree the game requires more development, but a lot of the negative reviews I'm seeing here primarily seem to be complaining about the difficulty of the game and the lack of resources- and while difficulty is a legitimate reason to dislike a game, I'm pretty sure that's what the devs were going for in this case.

Playing this as a single-player, it's not a bad game. The controls take some getting used to, and they're not as smooth as I'd like them to be, but they work. The game is kind of like a much more simplistic Minecraft. It's fairly repetitive and you're more limited in what you can and can't do. If you're into that, you might like it; if you're not, you might hate it. I don't mind it: It's nice to kind of zone out and mine for resources for a while.

I have only two complaints about this game: First, I feel like it could have been longer. It felt a bit short in some respects, and I feel like the story could have gone on just a little further, and the characters explored just a little deeper. I really hope we get a sequel for this. Second: The graphics were a little glitchy here and there, resulting in blurred landscapes or a character's clothes shaking or waving around during the cutscenes. It wasn't SUPER pervasive throughout the game; just happened a little too often to forget. Apart from that? Honestly, it's a great game: Tough without being insurmountable (and you can adjust the difficulty to your liking), smooth controls, and diverse, beautiful landscapes. There's a nice, small, intimate cast of characters too- all original, save for one that appears at the end. I loved Cal. He was a lovely character with great development over the course of the game, and I sincerely hope that if/when a sequel rolls around we get to see more of him and BD-1.

I got this discounted, so I'm not as bitter as I could be. So, it was definitely creepy, but... What the hell is going on here? There's literally no semblance of a story. No narration, no documents, no nothing except for the summary given with the game. I have zero context for what's going on here. Where am I, what am I doing, and why am I doing it? Also, I was ready to scream, because in the one section where you actually have an enemy to evade, it's NIGH IMPOSSIBLE to pick up the key you have to get off the desk. It took me multiple tries, and I thought I was doing something wrong- only to find out that the game just wasn't letting me pick it up. Not great.

Jesus Christ, I'm mad. This game has loads of potential- if you can actually figure out how it WORKS. It gives little to no clear instruction on the controls, or how to level-up; it tells you to go to the inventory, but WHERE in the inventory are you meant to go?? And there isn't, as far as I can see, a way to tell how many points you've earned towards a new level. The game is clearly geared towards people who have been playing it since it was in its alpha-state on the PC. Because anyone else who tries to play it is just going to be completely lost.

If I'm being technical, Wintermute (i.e. Story mode) gets a 5, and Survival gets a 9. Game overall I've averaged out to an eight. Story mode is okay, but that frickin' BEAR will be the death of me. I mean, it HAS been the death of me so many times because I can't actually get past it. It still haven't finished Story Mode because the one mission I'm on requires me to go to a location that's guarded by the bear, and it has so far proven impossible to get past- even with the rifle. Now, Survival Mode? There's some good stuff. You can adjust the mode according to difficulty, and if you're playing pilgrim, animals don't attack you unless you attack them, which removes the bear problem. It's still pretty challenging, though: The cold, food, water, and energy problem will still keep you on your toes even if you're playing on the most peaceful mode. Your main job is just pure survival, without being bogged down by story missions. Pretty good game. Challenging. Only other complaint is how transitioning from indoor to outdoor crashes the game sometimes.

Well, this is a lesson in why you don't buy games when you're sick. This game is godawful. The walking mechanic wasn't just slow- it was wobbly, and it's enough to give you a raging headache. I still haven't finished the game because in the house level, I cannot for the life of me figure out what I'm supposed to be doing or going to. Or if maybe the game is glitched and won't let me advance. Additionally the game is ridiculously glitchy, with a weirdly annoying story and characters. Detroit: Become Human10
Sep 18, 2019
Two games dominated my year in 2018: Far Cry 5, and Detroit: Become Human. People can dump on David Cage all they want, but- and I say this as someone who's played his games before, I know there are valid criticisms of his writing abilities- he definitely has a winner with this one. Like I said, having played Quantic Dream Games before, I know how hammy the acting and dialogue can be. But D:BH really came off as realistic- a hammy line here or there, but it's nothing glaring. The characters are excellent (though I wish the game was longer so they could explore some of them more) and the story was beautiful. Like Until Dawn, D:BH does a great job at throwing some unexpected consequences into your butterfly-effect choices. Sometimes the consequences to your choices are predictable, and sometimes they're not. Keeps you on edge and really hoping your characters don't end up dead. Great game. One of my all-time favorites.

Disappointing. The story was incredibly weak. They throw you into a weird, unfamiliar world and give you little to no explanation for what's going on- the characters all know what's happening, but they never coherently, concisely explain it or tie it together for the audience. They jump right into this stuff about reality and superpowers and they just- they genuinely do not explain it in any meaningful way. It's like they were trying to be complicated for the sake of being "~deep~" and complicated. I didn't even know this was supposed to be a dystopian setting until I happened on a summary for the game. Characters were weak, even Jesse. I just didn't connect with her; she jumps into this weird nonsense and doesn't even blink at it- and I'll grant you she has Polaris, but a LOT of weird stuff happens and she just... Doesn't react. At all. There's little to no range from her; it's Sinking City all over again where a developer thinks "Noir-style Detective" means "boring, unemotive character". Let me put it this way: Alan Wake, yeah? Normal guy, goes to a spooky town with his wife, and some weird stuff starts happening. Not only does he react fairly appropriately for a guy in that situation, but he also acts as an audience surrogate: We learn as he learns, and this is an effective tool for immersing us in the story. Control does not do this. It gives us a confusing nightmare of a story full of rambling topics that make little to no sense, and we get a main character whose reaction to this is a deadpan understanding and requires little to no explanation. So how the HELL are we, as the audience, supposed to connect with her and the story? How are we supposed to be immersed in something we can't understand and the main character already KNOWS and doesn't need explained? It wasn't good. Gameplay was okay. The map system is completely screwed, though: It is nigh impossible to tell where you are because the map only has one layer; if you go downstairs, there's no indicator that you're on a different floor and it gets confusing quickly. Also, the save-points were a royal nightmare; it's one of THOSE games where it takes you FOREVER to get to a boss-fight, and then you die, and then you get to spend twenty-minutes hiking back across the map so you can- you know- die again. And again. And again. And AGAIN. I'm disappointed. I was actually really looking forward to this game and it just went south immediately. ETA: Another fun note: Advancing your health, your shield ability? It does nothing. Enemies can still take off a ridiculous chunk of your health no matter what you have equipped, no matter how well you've upgraded yourself. It makes pretty much zero difference, except that it makes losing a boss battle and having to hike back to it to try AGAIN that much more infuriating. I've downgraded my rating; this may be the first video game that I actively HATE.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan7
Aug 31, 2019
Pros: -Beautiful graphics -Lots of good jumpscares/generally eerie atmosphere -Excellent replay value -Great acting -The STAY CALM! segments were a nice translation from Until Dawn's DON'T MOVE! segments. -The price reflects the length of the game (iirc it was like $29.99 USD) Cons: -Not happy that you HAVE to play co-op to get certain collectibles (and therefore, their trophies). I thought going into this that co-op was going to be an added feature, not something you HAD to do if you wanted to get, like, half the trophies for the game. I expect that with stuff like Far Cry and RDR2, but not narrative-heavy games like this. -Game starts very slowly. Takes a while to get to the scary stuff; Until Dawn did much better at injecting that tension before we actually hit anything genuinely scary. -Characters were not as well-developed as they were in Until Dawn; which is a shame, because Until Dawn had some genuinely unique and fun characters. -Maybe it was the length of the game, or maybe it was because they just give too many hints in-game, but it's not difficult to figure out the reason behind why everything is happening. I wish they could have made it more ambiguous until the end as to what the REAL explanation for everything was. Fell a little flat for me as a result. -ETA: Due to the way they structure the post-game chapter selection, if you decide to pick a chapter to replay, you get two options: Overwrite your save, or create a new one. And if you accidentally hit "Overwrite", guess what? You've now LOST your ability to choose the chapters you replay, because you've just lost the post-game save. So you get to replay the game and finish it again before you can replay another chapter. I'm tempted to lower my rating because that is BULL. Overall not a bad game. But when they release Little Hope, I seriously hope they reduce the amount of necessity that goes into co-op to get basic completion trophies.

I really like this game for what it is, but I think I would have LOVED it if it had gone farther than it did. Everything in this game is an example of "stopped just short of amazing". Story? Compelling, but not expanded upon enough (I think the game is somewhere between 5 and 10 hours long, not sure though). Characters? Wonderfully individual, with so much potential- but we don't ultimately learn much about them. World building? SO intriguing, but we see so little of it. (Soundtrack and visuals, on the other hand: A+, absolutely beautiful.) Battle mechanics were alright too. The people calling this game "THE WORST EVAR OMG SUCH AN EMBARRASSMENT TO PS4 AND SONY" are overreacting. While I can understand being mad at getting a relatively short and constrained game for $60 at opening day, the game is honestly not bad at all: It just falls short of the mark. I do sincerely hope it gets a sequel, because I did enjoy the ride and I badly want to see what else the developers could come up with, especially now that they have feedback and improve.

Amazing game. I really have to give the game-makers credit for animating Aloy's hair so well: In other games female characters with long hair sometimes end up looking unrealistic or glitchy, but they did an amazing job with hers. The graphics overall are gorgeous. The gameplay was fun as well: The enemies are challenging, but not insurmountable, and you get a wide array of weapons to work with. I had a really good time wandering around and exploring, especially since the map was so big and diverse and there was so much stuff to do. The story was very intriguing, and I enjoyed following it through to the end. Aloy was such a wonderful character as well. My only complaint is that most of the side-characters were a little forgettable, save for a few. Really enjoyed this game.

Clunky mechanics and a ridiculously dull story-line. Characters were paper-thin and entirely unmemorable, including the protagonist. The graphics themselves aren't bad- when they load, anyway. Speaking of loading, you'll get used to the Loading Screens real quick, since they come almost constantly with any sort of scene-change and last anywhere from a minute to four minutes. There is no butterfly effect in this game either; it sets you up like Call of Cthulhu, where you have to make specific choices to get a certain ending, but at the end of the game ALL options are available regardless of what you pick. Your choices don't mean **** I was hoping this would be better that Call of Cthulhu, which I was disappointed with; but this ended up being an even BIGGER disappointment.

I'm of two minds on this game. On one hand, Deacon, Boozer, Sarah, and a few of the more prominent characters were superbly acted and written- but the other minor characters were easily forgotten and paper-thin. NPCs in other series (Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, etc) have done better at putting personalities into their minor characters. Likewise, the story wasn't as coherent or linear as I would have liked. It got to be where I really only paid enough attention to see what would happen to Deacon, Boozer, and Sarah- not necessarily anything else that was going on, because a lot of it isn't super relevant to the plot. The gameplay was pretty fun- fighting hordes is a hell of a challenge and I enjoyed that immensely. The game makes ammo and such available but not SUPER available, so it's not too easy. By far, my major complaint about this game was the glitching. Dear God, the glitching. I pre-ordered this, so this was a day-one copy. And I swear I have NEVER played a game first-day that was as horrendously glitchy as this game. A lot of freezing, a lot of game-crashes, and a lot of instances where during cutscenes certain things would go blurry (Deacon and Boozer's tattoos, for instance, would get incredibly blurry where before they'd been clear and detailed; this was jarring because the games graphics were beautiful most of the time). Not a bad game, and I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel I assume is coming, but they REALLY need to make sure the game copies they're sending out are cleaner than this one.

A Plague Tale: Innocence10

Excellent game. The story was beautifully written, and the characters were wonderfully acted (Amicia's actress deserves an award for that acting during the dream-sequence, she did amazingly). The game strikes an interesting balance between combat and stealth: You sometimes HAVE to pick one or the other, but many times it gives you an option between sneaking and fighting. It all comes down to the resources you've collected (they're semi-scarce). It works well for people who prefer one or the other. I am VERY excited for a sequel. This has a lot of potential for a series.

Far Cry 510

I adore just about everything about this game. I loved the characters, most of whom stood out despite there being so many of them (they all had distinctive personalities), the story (having now played the other Far Cry games, imo this one has the best story-telling), the action (the main action AND the side-missions and activities were all fun and challenging without being head-banging hard), and the humor. This was the first Far Cry game I played, and it inspired me to go pick up the other ones; but this one still stands out as my absolute favorite.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture8

I enjoyed this one. The story and mystery were both interesting, and the music and graphics were beautiful. I just wish you had an option to move a little faster or run, because it can be an ASS of a time to back-track if you've gone the wrong way; the character is very slow.

I love this game so much. This is everything that a "walking simulator" game should aspire to be: Creative, surprising, and heart-wrenching. And also with a level of interactivity that keeps things interesting.

Certainly had its moments- some good jump-scares here and there- but ultimately just wasn't that great. This is the kind of game that makes itself an example of why "Walking Simulator" is a pejorative.

Resident Evil 29
Apr 12, 2019
You know, Resident Evil was one of those game series I avoided playing for a while because I was sick of the hype surrounding it (EVERYONE loves it, EVERYONE recommends it- it's kind of like Harry Potter where eventually you get tired of hearing about it). I played RE7 last year, and this year I decided on a whim to play this one since I liked RE7 so well and found myself interested in the rest of the RE universe. And I have to say, I'm glad I did. This was a hell ****. Difficult, but not head-bangingly, teeth-grindingly so; it's achievable with patience and strategic use of items and weaponry. It had good horror- I'll be seeing Mr. X in my sleep from now on, thanks Capcom- and I really enjoyed Leon and Claire. I also liked that you could play from one perspective each. Also, though I know this runs contrary to popular fan sentiment, I was glad they decided not to do the spiders in the sewers. That would have put me off the game (I have bad arachnophobia, and my fear is directly proportional to the size of the spider), and I was relieved to see they'd replaced it with other monsters. The graphics were beautiful, the music was great, and overall I just really liked this one. I sincerely hope Capcom remakes the other RE games; I've already got a few of the PS4... Re-releases? I forget the word for when they adapt a game for a new system but don't actually remake it. Anyway, I'm getting into the rest of the series now, and I'd love to see remakes and new stuff from the developers.

Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game6
Mar 12, 2019
Had a LOT of potential that it didn't quite carry off. Story was okay, combat was eh, and acting was eh. The character animations didn't match with the dialogue either, and while I can forgive that with games that originated with a different language, I'm 90% sure this one originated with English-language animation/writers/actors.

Far Cry Primal8
Mar 12, 2019
On a story-level, Primal was an "eh" for me. The story and characters were largely forgettable, and I forgot pretty much everyone's names except for Takkar and Sayla's. But the GAMEPLAY. The gameplay I loved: The hunting, the fighting, the missions, taming animals- I really enjoyed it. This is one of those rare situations where I loved the mechanics so much that I can forgive the lack of significant story.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard9
Mar 12, 2019
Well, put this up with Silent Hill as one of the games that gave me a half-a-dozen heart-attacks while I was playing. This is the first Resident Evil game I've ever played, and I know it's a departure from what the series was before (at least that's what I glean from some hardcore fans whining on various websites) but I have to say, this makes me eager to check out the rest of the series. Genuinely frightening, with atmosphere and jump-scares alike.

Bendy and the Ink Machine8
Mar 12, 2019
This was a fun one! Wasn't sure exactly what I was getting when I got into it (I only knew about the game's general ~aesthetic~ going into it) but it was scarier than I thought it would be. Only complaint is that there were quite a few pain-in-the-ass moments where it was teeth-grittingly irritating to get past enemies. One particularly aggravating moment was the few times I had to reboot my save because the little group-battle you have with the angel-girl and the dog-guy (can't remember their names) against those ink-monsters . For some reason it didn't seem to let me kill the last monster; the game had a few odd glitches here and there that were aggravating. But overall, not bad.

Until Dawn10
Mar 12, 2019
I LOVE Until Dawn. Apart from the excellent acting and the genuinely scary moments in the game, the butterfly-effect mechanic was just beautifully implemented. There are so many different ways you can screw up- and while some butterfly effect games go for more predictable routes (i.e. "be a good person and everything will be chill") this one really brings some chaos into it; you can't take for granted that doing the "nice" thing is what's going to keep your characters alive.

Perception7
Mar 12, 2019
I enjoyed it. It was creepy, had an excellent source of tension with the character being blind (you can't see what's in the distance, after all, and have to rely on phone apps to fill in the gaps). That being said, I think I got this for like... $20? And as short as it was and relatively simplistic as it was (the story was OK, not fabulous) that's not something I feel was worth $20. Also, though everywhere I went insisted a patch had fixed the issues back in October 2017, I was still unable to get the "Snoop" trophy: A relative simple trophy acquired by listening to all the messages on Cassie's phone. Which I did. Three times. In two different playthroughs.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers4
Mar 12, 2019
I was really excited to play this game: I love horror, and it sets up a decent mystery, so I was ready. Then the stalking started. And to make a long and aggravating story short, I spent TWO HOURS unsuccessfully trying to get past the stalker. Eventually I had to stop because I just had a filling replaced and I was worried it would pop out from all the TEETH-GRINDING I was doing. The reason why this was so difficult is because the sound-effects were not what they should have been. I KNEW going into this game that it was a "avoid the stalker" game. I assumed that, like many stalker/evasion based games, that I would be avoiding the stalker based on audio cues. And it is NIGH IMPOSSIBLE to tell when the stalker is near you or not. Oh, you get a creepy tone, and he talks- but he COULD be right below you on the next floor, OR he could be right around the corner. You have no way of knowing until the fricker is right on top of you. I'm not a stickler about sound-effects, or graphics, or whatever in a game as a general rule; but if you are making a game where your primary weapon is your ability to hear where your enemy is, it's not forgivable to me when you've done the sound-effects so poorly that I CAN'T DO THAT. Beyond that, I can't critique the rest of the game. Y'know, because I can't GET to it.

Far Cry New Dawn7
Feb 25, 2019
It was good. Not excellent, not fabulous, but good. I adored Far Cry 5, and I was highly anticipating this one- but the story wasn't nearly as strong as I would have liked it to be, and for a sequel game, there were way too many loose threads from FC5 left untouched and unexplored.

What Remains of Edith Finch10
Feb 25, 2019
This is a perfect example **** that is primarily exploration/story-based that allows for enough creative interactivity to keep the story going. If more so-called "walking simulators" took notes from What Remains of Edith Finch, the genre would be better-viewed on the whole.
