The Quiet Apocalypse isn’t without problems, but Hinterland's commitment to adding new content, while refining the experience over the years, has positioned The Long Dark at the top of the survival genre’s pecking order. The Long Dark is a must-play for anyone who is even remotely intrigued by it.

The Long Dark is a masterful survival game that manages to craft a rich and emotional experience but lacks in providing objectives and narrative hooks to keep the game interesting and meaningful.

The Long Dark is a survival game, one of many some will say, but with its interesting story and a touch of mystery, we’ve got a very good game before us.

it is the worst game ı ever played. The missions is like this; go end of the map end load the other map, the rest of the road, end continue pressing w and shift walk end of the new map and load the other map, and walk again end of the stupid boring map. How developers cant see how annoying is this. and at the end of the road just press the one stupid button take a stupid item and go back again the stupid road. It is the worst game ever. story is not good, mechanics is not good, musics is also not good all same effects who thought this is good work ı really dont understand.

The Long Dark is probably the most complex survival game I have played, and I say this after playing quite a few of them. The amount of variables that are tracked and interact with each other is honestly hard to explain even if you sat someone down and tried. Clothing gets worn, torn by injuries or just by time. Tools break, but you can repair them, and the tools used for repairs also need to be maintained. Drinks and food affect your character's state in ways that actually matter. Wounds are specific, a wrist injury changes what you can carry or how you can move. Weather shifts and you have to actually pay attention to it. When you step back and think about how much a relatively small studio built over these years, it is genuinely impressive. Now the campaign. People waited 13 years for it to finish, including me. And the story itself had something to it, the mystery was compelling enough that you kept coming back through each episode release. But if you think about what you are actually doing throughout the whole thing, it boils down to: go do what someone else told you to do because they won't do it themselves. Every time. The main goal becomes clear early and then you just spend hours executing other people's errands. That's a problem. And the last episode. I don't know. The story ends, technically. But it ends in a way that doesn't feel earned. And then the developers say there's going to be a Long Dark II, which is fine on its own, but for people who genuinely waited over a decade for the story to conclude, it feels like the ending was just a transition point rather than an actual ending. That leaves a strange taste. Still, the game is finished now. The survival mode was always worth it, still is. And if you can separate the campaign's disappointments from everything else the game does, there's a lot here that no other game does the same way.

Disappointing final, just to make room for a second game in the worst way possible. Men armed with torches could not be killed or scared away by a gun and a bow. I liked the game, but waited almost 5 years for a finale written by a 12 yo. Just sad.

An essential survival game keeps the perfect balance between playability and realism, which drags you in and won’t let you out. The game’s cold atmosphere couldn’t ruin even a few little mistakes and a slightly weaker story. [Issue#278]

Deep, brutal, and hauntingly atmospheric, The Long Dark is a survival game done right.

The Long Dark is imperfect, but it could be one of the best experiences in the survival genre. For the impatient, single-player gamer, The Long Dark holds little promise. However, if you relish the challenge of isolation and the feeling that you’re fighting against an environment that isn’t trying to kill you, but rather just doesn’t care about you, then you must try The Long Dark.

The art and the well-thought-through presentation make The Long Dark an excellent survival genre. The cold, the hunger and the danger of the Canadian countryside leave a big impression. It is too bad the story is not as well made.

The Long Dark: Wintermute is a great survival, but the campaign does not convince.

Survival experience at its best – that is an episodic adventure, The Long Dark. It could even be a great adventure in RPG style if it improves the storytelling and technology in upcoming episodes or updates.

It's important to remember that The Long Dark is just waking up from early access. It's cold, hungry, and huddled somewhere under a rock face, but it's just gotten the fire started. Another three story episodes are still due, so there is time to turn things around for Will and Astrid. However, because the best parts of The Long Dark are already alive and well in survival mode, perhaps Wintermute's weak beginning is reason enough to stick to what's worked for the game all along, blemishes and all.

The best survival game and one of my favourite games in general. I have already played over 1700 hours, mostly in survival mode. Story mode is ok but it is not what this game is about.

Really loved the environment and setting of the game and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in the game. Story was decent but the survival mode gets a bit repetitive.

Although there are moments when I get stuck in the game sometimes, it is a game where you can have a good time in general.

Des bugs insupportables qui nous font trop perdre. En 2026 après toutes ces années, c'est pitoyable.

I was hyped for this game, but when I tried it, it was really boring. I knew the survival part was a sandbox, which is why I tried the story mode. It was really disappointing, as the tasks were repetitive and dull. That said, I like the visuals and I hope that in another life, The Long Dark would have had a freaking cool story and gameplay.
SummaryImagine the lights go out, never to return. Bright aurora flare across the sky, and all humanity’s technological might is laid to waste, neutralized in a kind of quiet apocalypse. Everything that has shielded humanity from the disinterested power of Mother Nature is suddenly wrenched from us, dropping us a few links down the food chain. ... Read More
